The UnFestival - Rotor's Struggle...

Let's see.........

Way back, during the Plague, poor Rotor got fried on the Barrier, when it collapsed while he was interfaced with it. So, badly injured and near death, most all the spiderdarts he'd sent out to help in the battle... suddenly had no single master to direct and monitor their activities. In the heat of battle, some of Rotor's spiderdarts had been "consumed" by the foul undead things, risen up from underground. Being a techno-organic life-form, Rotor had no protection against subtle magics... not against the vile forces of evil. Not against true Corruption, a mere spec of non-material foulness, infecting one of his spiderdarts.

Yes, one of Rotor's servants returned with a Curse, and used his weakened state to infect this injured Hrarr'ra'rah Shesh with a subtle Poison. Infected his metal stores, without his conscious awareness. Stayed hidden, until he gave Siltharyn a small gift... a cloud of nanites, to intercept the alcohol molecules irritating her sensative, canine nose. Well, that was the intent...

... but the Corruption used that pathway for its own purposes, to cause harm. But, in doing so, it made Rotor aware... triggered a biopsychological reaction. A "safety" mechanism.

Rotor collapsed, and the inner struggle for control of his biology began.........

This thread is for the continuation of that struggle, how one being... rendered helpless... receives the help he needs. Of course, such trauma has its price. The question to answer is:

How heavy?

The lesson:

How important True Friends really are in Life.........

However, we all have a different outlook, so your question and lesson may differ, Dear Reader. Have fun finding out!

As for those involved, who still wish to continue? A bit of drama, a sidestory to provide Yang to balance the Festival's Yin. And, to also have fun with......... *See You All In The ThreadSpace Below!*

A Past Life, Lost...

Post by Roose Hurro »

So long.........

So long ago.........!

**Troo-Ja'na slept with the soundness of the innocent, secure and content in the warmth of her over-sib, even thought it was night... Rotor slept lightly, yes, but he had a slight grin still pasted to his five-eyed face, like a kid who had just discovered The Most Wonderful Secret In The Whole World. This grin, his light sleep, made possible because... Khee-Le'na, his best friend, now called Afafa, hug-cuddled along his spine, her head perched on his shoulder... all her intimate secrets, his to explore again, as their oh so recently mated partnership grew further into the future.

But there was more. Much more....

His family, her family... both of their dauks, together this night, sleeping together in piles, draped over rocks and rolled over in what passed for grass (if not looked at too closely), all exhausted yet content, after a Celebration made to honor all the newly emerged adults. Couples, more than just Rotor and his new mate, Afa, snuggled together in sleep, all with remnant grins on show, for the same... single... reason. The last four days had been quite... active. And noisy. And colorful, also. One great, big Celebration... the Artistry of Life, written in Creation's intimacy. As it had been since the Beginning, when the na in which every Shesh was born... changed... and the One became Two, so the Two could be One. All... so more Shesh could be born.

Look at the night...

... they glow with dark color, the clouds do. Stars. A dozen Moons. Both, quietly lighting the sky, and lightly touching ground with their soft beams. Droplets of water did float by, like butterflies, as gravity fluxed. Yet... each individual, still asleep Shesh-pile component... adapted to the passing-by flux-wave, without waking. Some... those clinging to rocks... allowed themselves to almost float in body, so their Dream-Spirits would fly through the sensation. All gave off the Warmth of Life... breathed together, young and old. Male, female and na... alike.

Family, friends. Asleep in the night. None worried or afraid, though the World around them held much in the way of dangers. However, this was a mild eccothal, not quite half over. Safety in numbers, even though all slept, and none seemed to watch. But that was just appearance, not Truth... Watchers from both dauks Watched, as they slept. Slept ready to wake at the slightest hint of trouble, teeth and claws bared in defense, voices raised in warning. Not for their own, but for the ears of whatever threatened... if what threatened happened to have ears to hear, or some other way to sense sound and vibration...

... but digression must be stifled, and the night must pass onward. Not too far, but enough.

Rotor's under-sib, Troo... not old enough to have gender, still na, one of many offspring sparked in past seasons... stirred in sleep, touched claws to Rotor's still sensative underbelly, a light prick to a spot above his pouch. A hesitation of breath, on Rotor's part, as the sensation registered. No alarm, no pain, only awarness of this small-one's familiar touch, rousing him from dreams...

Eyes, slitting open. Head, slowly turning, so eyes could look in the right direction. Breath, resumed. Ears flicked, sensory feelers atwitch. Careful, gentle, so as not to disturb his mate's sleep. Tail, gratefully loose... no relative or in-law laying on it. Tail, slowly curled around, so the tip could brush Troo's small head with brotherly, over-sib affection. Soon... not now, but soon. Yes, Afa and him... they would have a child... children... of their own to raise, when the time felt right. His rut had almost faded, at this moment in the night... next season, him and her would make a choice, again. They had plenty of time...

... all their lives, together.........
**

All their lives.........

But that had been a mistaken assumption, made by someone who never imagined his life would lead to this... to... this.........

*No... hold tight to the Voices!*

No... no, wait! Another touch. Confusion. Movement. Sensations wrapped over the pain, though the pain never left. But still, mostly unaware of what went on Outside. Unable to focus perceptual clarity on anything but the pain and sorrow of loss... ohhh, so much loss!

Outside words, muffled. Distant gibberish....

Voices Inside, faint, on the edge of Understanding....

Mind, scattered. Body, weak. Soul, writhing under Corruption's continued assault....

Slow poison, draining......... *?*

*Memories... so many memories, re...Liveddd-kkkk ... *zzzzzt!*......... <<<lifeflash>>>

Roose.........

The young 'Twill threw a glance over his shoulder... not that he needed to. He could perceive, without turning... the shudder... and sudden, though incrimental collapse... the further "drawing in" of Rotor's pattern, as the Shesh's physical/spiritual state "shifted" to another level. Yet, looking with his eyes was a natural habit, a bringing together of his own senses, aimed towards the source of stimulation. He also listened... to Mwezi, to Anani, to Jah... the others, when they put forth words. And when their own patterns ruffled in the emotional/situational tension. Without looking back, Roose brushed his tail's tuft across both Mwezi's and Anani's shoulders...

... and copied Mwezi's simple, wordless nod, eyes on Jah, for the moment.

What Jah wanted to do... dangerous, yes. How dangerous? No way to be sure, under the circumstances... not enough information to go on, faced with the highly unusual nature of both Rotor, and his presently unstable state. However, life itself was risk... Roose would not let even a casual friend suffer any longer, if he could in any way help! In any way lessen the risk! He would do as Jah asked, without question.

His eyes met every face present, caught other eyes...

Jah's, of course...

Ashowan's, with a slight smile he couldn't help, as she returned from her quick "errand"...

Entropy's, not without some doubts and concerns...

Thoee's and Deen's, though he knew not their names (strange, mayhaps, given their rep, and his own wandering encounters, but the Nism were comparatively new to Deep Forest)...

Juno's... wait, where did he go? Oh, well...

And then, once more...

... Mwezi's...

... Anani's.........

Having seen the kittenchild's smile rise up out of her sadness and tears, not long ago, his spirits had been raised... her words, proof of strength and will, even in one so young. His right hand reached out, and gave her a gentle rub between her ears...

... "Your father speaks truth, Anani-girl. This fight is not over till we have won! We will do whatever we can, all of us, together...."

When his eyes fell on Mwezi, they held respect, and a friendship offered, though his ears and seelers slicked back a bit, in contrast. This cat had a very... unusual quality, running throughout his pattern, a very subtle and unique rythym to his energies that...

... "Yes, there is danger, if nothing is done... as there is comparable risk in what Jah wishes to do." Roose had seen the look in Mwezi's eyes. He'd also seen the spirit and the brightness, the mark of a great mind... and greater heart. Eyes... window to the soul, indeed.

Even crouched down as he was, Roose bowed his respects also to Anani's foster father, throat to the ground... the line of script running down the spine of his Nute, fully exposed to the feline's sight...

... and, even more unusual, in this moment...

... his wings slipped out, and briefly flickered in the dappled light, before they were quickly retracted and refolded under his Nute, again under cover and out of chance female sight. A gesture of trust, male to male...

... "I would give my life for your daughter...."

Thoee and Deen.........

Yes, Deen had joined his mate beside Rotor's coccoon, his concerns... and Thoee's... focused on what Jah had asked of them. After kissing his tail goodbye and tossing it away, his tail had seemed to take on a mind of its own. Twitching, lashing... very nervous/unsure in its movements and attitude. Deen himself, however, looked introspective. Thoee...? Well, she looked a bit unfocused... worried, in the way her eyes cast over the group... but that look turned to her mate, as he crouched down, and laid a hand on warm...

... well, it wasn't steel. It felt warm and alive. Pulsed and roughened under his hand's touch, but did nothing else. Living metal, it seemed. Deen focused his biosense, and received the impression of tenseness, like a groundfault felt, just before it let loose an earthquake. And yet, insulated by the slow tide of fluids under pressure, like a pipe ready to burst. Impression of gears turning, where no gears existed. A small, fuzzy thing, like a mouse chased by a cat... both, inside a very dark box, sealed off from the outside air. The longer Deen touched, the further back his large ears folded, till they could fold no farther.

Thoee....

It pained her... worried her. No, neither she nor he had met the one coccooned away in this living-alloy egg. But, her own biosense touched... touched... no, she had to back off, for the moment. So... alien. So... alone. The one inside radiated such pain and confusion, on so many levels, it made her headstone ache. Unusual, for a Nism. But this was a very unusual being they tried to help, not like anything she had ever encountered, and the feelings she felt threw her off.

This would, indeed, require more than Thoee's skills could handle, alone.........

Jah's plan seemed the best way. Stabilize the patient, before surgery, then excise the "cancer". Deen looked up, met his mate's eyes... pulled his hand lightly away, then retouched with greater force, a poke of sorts. But, again...

... nothing happened, beyond a slight return pressure, pushing back at his fingertips...

... "Sweetness...?"

Deen saw the look in her eyes, reached up with his other hand, and pulled her down beside him, for a brief hug, a comforting share of warmth and wordless understanding. Then, they both turned eyes and attention on Jah, both with their ears flicked about, to include all others in the group...

... "Gentle Healer...?"

Thoee used the same formal address as earlier, while her tail wrapped around Deen, tuft brushing his chest...

... "We will do whatever you ask, though we know not the one you wish to help."

Her glance found Roose first... caught his own glance towards her and Deen... then moved over the others present, taking in all their individual biosignatures, so she would know the wellbeing of all involved, and could react swiftly, should anything go wrong.........

It came as no surprise to see many of the faces who had been here earlier still lurking. As Ashowan 'poof'ed back into existence beside Roose's curious form, wind uncurling from her figure while licking at the terse atmosphere, emerald pools shifted from one person to the next. Entropy was still here. That was good. The Succubus, though a relatively new face overall towards the reaper, was trustworthy and stoic when it came to lending aid towards those in need of it. Juno? He wasn't here. Of course not - she'd spotted him earlier leaving the group so that he could throw together a number of displays at the Nightmare Bar. Strange songs rolled about on the airwaves, audible even here in the Village proper. Thoee and Deen? Truth be told, Ashowan never met either of them prior to the Festival. Their reputations did, however, precede them. Roose was ever watchful, ever friendly, ever suspecting. Anani was still here, and the reaper felt a chord strike within the very core of her heart. Why did the kittenchild's predicament feel so familiar?

You know exactly why.

A rough shake of her skull later and Ashowan glanced briefly at Mwezi. Ahhh, there was one massive cat she'd had the honor of running across at the Edge of the Woods. Lenient and lax, now protective and serious. Such a shift spurred to life by a series of unfortunate events. Turning to Roose, then peering at Anani, Ashowan offered a weak smile in return, accompanied by the meekest sounding voice in the world.

"Sorry for jetting. I was caught up in something. Literally." A momentary memory - J.D. and Scarlet getting caught in a rolling tumble of limbs and skin: crashing into the reaper, dragging her along.

Closing her eyes against fatigue and sunlight, Ashowan felt rather than saw Rotor's presence among them. His cocoon was resting before Jah, the healing unisus mare of snow-hued fur. Deen was in the process of touching it. Nex Ventus brushed past the other to take up a spot alongside of them. She knelt forwards, face relatively blank save for the smallest glimmer of ... sympathy, pain? ... in oculars of deepest green. Exhaling carbon added to the feel of haggardness. Gloved fingers gently stroke Rotor's protective shell. Amazement came like a storm. For steel, this was anything but! It was warm, pulsating with hidden life; an bio-organic material in and of itself. It gave Rotor's shield a fragile feel and Ashowan found herself lightening her touch in kind.

Surgery, Jah had said. Prepare the patient for surgery. What better way ... than a total numbing of the body? "Thank you, Jah," Ashowan whispered to the healer, words holding more respect than anything else. And with that Ashowan let her fingers phase just slightly into Rotor's cocoon: a Reaper ability granted to her at the moment of her death. Just enough so that they could get a slight grasp on the alien's body, spectral digits surpassed the material outer skin to grab at the frail spirit locked away inside. A sharp little tug of Rotor's ghost derailed its placement within the body, disconnecting the precious nerves attaching body to soul. As quickly as this action had been taken, the reaper let go and drew backwards to stand side-by-side with Mwezi and the others. Her meddling would not go unfelt - Rotor would feel no psychical agony for a few moments until his spirit readjusted and fit back in the bodily shell the way it used to. Hopefully, the 'refitting' process would take long enough for Jah to go about her business and finish.

((Done! Anyone need edits?))

Jah~lila's empathic senses were fully extended, Feeling the assent of all involved even as she heard it. An unwilling hear would do more harm than good in such a delicate situation. Ink black eyes swept each of the rescue party in turn, wordless thanks within them. If these folk had not offered their aid... Well, Jah~lila would have tried anyway, but her chances of success (and survival) would have been greatly diminished. Ashowan's thanks she quietly brushed aside for now. If Rotor was saved, let them congratulate each other--praise made her uncomfortable. The respect within those thanks, however, was quite kind of her. As her eyes swept over the incredibly diverse group before her, the mare unfurled her long white wings.

In order to keep a unicorn's noble bulk airborne, it was necessary to have correspondingly long wings. Jah~lila's were longer even than most of her earthly cousins, to allow for greater maneuverability and speed. The price paid in fragility was often high, but in this case, the sheer size and flexibility of the appendages were in the brave little group's favor. All of these different powers, working in the same harness... It would be up to the mare to mesh them and make sure they went where they were needed to be. This process was far easier with a physical touch. Spreading her white wings to their fullest, the mare encircled the little group, gently brushing wings, limbs, and tails as she went.

In the wake of the touch of her wings came the touch of her consciousness on the assembled creatures. It was a refreshing touch, like the feel of a cool, confident hand laid across a fevered brow. The touch brought with it the infectious calm and tranquility the mare could not help but exude. She let her thanks and respect for what they had agreed to do color the touch as she spoke to each of them. They needed a bit more explanation before she plunged them in.

She spoke to Anani and Mwezi first. ~What you see when I slip you Within shall be different from what I or others of you may see. You might see a location, a place you've happy memories of Rotor, or you may see a swirling maelstrom of light, or you may see nothingness.~ In her mind voice, the echo associated with her spoken voice seemed to have blended to the point it was one intricate voice, as it was in the Divine Realms themselves. The words carried confidence--she dared be nothing but confident. ~You might see Rotor's mind-self, his true essence trapped deep within. Speak to him, offer what comfort you may, and explain that we have come to help. 'Tis possible it will keep him from fighting what I do deeper still. For now, touch him--and close your eyes, that you don't have conflicting images in your mind. You must not lose a grip on who and what you are, lest you be drawn in and trapped as well.~

As she said these things to the two shifters, she was constructing the spell matrix around them, using her wings as the physical boundaries and anchoring it within herself. This way, if she failed, the spell would most likely just expel the others rather than lashing their minds. Of course, it would rebound on her, but she preferred not to think about that eventuality.

She made the matrix visible to Ashowan and Entropy, speaking to them as she guided their mind's eye over the structure. It appeared as a net of glittering silver energy. ~This is the way the spell looks on the outside. 'Twill keep most of the power contained, but like a fish in a net, it will seek to escape through the 'holes' between.~ Jah~lila showed the two women a mental image of bright, ever-changing energy pressing against the spell's bounds. ~Some of the 'fish' will be small enough to fit through. If they escape, they will warp what they touch--starting with us. Stopping it will be a matter more of will than power. Whatever you see inside, whatever you feel, you must remain attentive. Our lives and more depend upon it.~ Jah~lila knew the enormous risks they were all taking, but she had to trust that they were up to their various tasks. ~When you catch a bit of energy, guide it here, where the energy feels a bit 'sticky'. The spell will reabsorb the power and use it as fuel.~

The mare turned her black eyes on Thoee, Deen, and Roose in turn. ~Open your hearts to me, my friends and strangers. I will link to you, and you will be able to hold the foundation of the spell steady. We will depend on you to keep all from falling to pieces.~ Jah~lila's eyes swept them again, lingering a moment on Roose as she said with honesty they would be able to Feel, ~I trust you.~

The Angelic white mare pulled the last pieces of the set-spell into place. To all of them at once, she said, ~We go deeply, now, friends. Memories may slip through the links from any one of us, but most especially Rotor. We must face the notion that we might all know each other far better by the end of this ordeal before we begin. Whatever you see, recall your task, or tragedy will follow.~ Double checking the work she had just done, she asked, ~Are you ready?~

**********

Mwezi disliked, above all things, being helpless. That dislike had been compounded by the events of the plague. He had been utterly helpless in the face of the disease, helpless to stop Leonardo from forcing the trial of the Shadowma on Anani, or even to warn her what was being done. The big feline had been forced to remain with Anani's motionless body as she went through the test in her mind. Rotor had been there, through that, with both of them when they needed his company most. This would be another sort of test for Anani, and the stakes were just as high, but this time, at least, he would go with her. Whatever else, he would be there with Rotor and Anani, whatever happened, and that was a great comfort.

Mwezi looked around at the assemled creatures, here to save his friend. There was Ashowan, who he had met before at the edge of the woods. Considering how she had made the Doppleganger sweat, he was very glad to have her here. She would be an asset indeed. Jah~lila, for all she made him feel like a clumsy kit, seemed to be in full command of herself, and quite determined not to let Rotor die, and her precense was somehow very... motherly, he supposed was the word. He got the impression that if she had to trade any one of their lives for her own, she would not hesitate. The others--Entropy, Thoee, Deen, Roose... he did not know them, but he would have to trust them. There was a bit of uneasiness about this until he heard their responses to the white healer's words.

Thoee and Deen confirmed what he suspected, that they didn't know Rotor, but their bizarre features seemed to be as full of resolve as anyone's. And Roose... Roose bowed to him low, a gesture not unlike one Rotor might have employed. Mwezi was uncertain what the precise meaning of Roose's exposure of his wings, but the Usiku shaman recognized the intention and the respect behind the gesture. And then the alien creature said, "I would give my life for your daughter...."

No words could have been more carefully calculated to draw out Mwezi's approval. In his mind, Anani's life and happiness was worth any price, and the notion that this Roose creature agreed with that particular sentiment called a toothy grin up from the prideleader. The smile flashed brightly against his black fur before it faded. And slowly, deliberately, Mwezi bowed his own head to Roose, saying nothing with words. His eyes, however, spoke of fellow feeling and an answering respect.

When Jah~lila spoke into his mind, his eyes widened, ears standing to attention and swivelling to the mare through the words came from within. Somehow, though she spoke of the grim dangers involved, he couldn't help but feel enheartened by the touch of her mind on his. It made him feel strangely calm and put him into a state of readiness. Her soft feathers brushed against his back, the wings ringing them all like the embrace of a protective mother. Mwezi took a moment to rub his head against Anani's, marking her as his daughter with his scent in the way of felines, before he obediently placed his paw on the strange capsule that held Rotor.

Closing his eyes as he was bid, Mwezi said firmly, "I'm ready."

Following Ashowan's sudden disappearance at the hands of Scarlet and J.D., Entropy spent a few moments staring silently after them. The succubus hoped Sho would be back before Jah~lila started the spell, as she wasn't sure whether she could do the job she had been assigned by herself. Luckily, Ashowan did return in time, at which Entropy sighed in relief.

It was then that the white unicorn began to give out specific instructions. After addressing Anani and Mwezi, the healer's attention turned to Ashowan and Entropy. Just as Jah~lila began to speak, the matrix of the spell in progress became visible to the succubus.

~This is the way the spell looks on the outside. 'Twill keep most of the power contained, but like a fish in a net, it will seek to escape through the 'holes' between. Some of the 'fish' will be small enough to fit through. If they escape, they will warp what they touch--starting with us. Stopping it will be a matter more of will than power. Whatever you see inside, whatever you feel, you must remain attentive. Our lives and more depend upon it. When you catch a bit of energy, guide it here, where the energy feels a bit 'sticky'. The spell will reabsorb the power and use it as fuel.~

Entropy nodded as she took in all the information that was given. It sounded like basic apprentice-work, really, considering that all she would have to contribute was her will, and not any of her own abilities. Fortunately, Entropy wasn't such an arrogant archmage as to think that this sort of thing was below her. Rather, she concentrated on the fact that, apparently, her job was so important that the whole affair would collapse without her.

"Alright, and you end up needing any extra energy on top of that, give me a call," she offered.

After continuing on to give her instructions to the rest of the group, the unicorn addressed everyone at once.

~We go deeply, now, friends. Memories may slip through the links from any one of us, but most especially Rotor. We must face the notion that we might all know each other far better by the end of this ordeal before we begin. Whatever you see, recall your task, or tragedy will follow.~

A discomforted look momentarily crossed Entropy's face at the revelation that some of her memories could wind up on display. The Abyssal Overlord's closet was populated with her share of skeletons, after all. However, she was committed to this. She set her face with determination, ready to accept the risk she was going to take and deal with the consequences when they came.

~Are you ready?~

Entropy gave a single nod of her head.

"Let's rock."

[[OoC:: Woo! I'm here! Short, but here. Finally. heh.]]

Large white wings unfurled and enveloped the strange, diverse group of creatures, and as the beautiful appendages brushed Anani’s tail, the kittenchild felt a confidence flow through her, and for the first time since she had arrived, she felt calm. Ani smiled, her entire expression peaceful as she awaited instructions.

Jah spoke to her and Mwezi first, and Anani focused carefully on the white mare’s words. The kittenchild had never paid more attention to anything else before in her life. She had to listen; one of her very best friends, a creature she considered family, was in danger, and she had been given the chance to help. This was one of the most important things she’d ever done.

~What you see when I slip you Within shall be different from what I or others of you may see. You might see a location, a place you've happy memories of Rotor, or you may see a swirling maelstrom of light, or you may see nothingness.~

The words were confident, relaxed, but carried an important air of significance. Even if Ani had tried, she couldn’t have ignored them… a wayward thought did make its way through Ani's mind, though. For a moment, the kittenchild wondered where she'd see. The Village? The place where they'd met Dimitri-Rasul? But Jah was speaking again, and the thought vanished.

Anani frowned slightly. This would be hard. She knew that she could keep a hold onto who she was; the nine-year-old knew herself much better than most kids her age. No, Anani was not concerned about herself. She was worried for all of the other creatures around her. If something happened to Roose, or Ashowan, or Mwezi, or anybody there, the kittenchild didn’t know what she would do.

Mwezi’s nudge-rub pulled Anani out of her depressing thoughts, and the kittenchild remembered to smile again, managing to get a quick lick to his nose in before he moved away. Then, she looked back up at Jah, grinning, and placed a paw on Rotor’s shell-like exterior.

“Ready!”

What a stupid lamb.
What a sick, masochistic lion.

Ahhhhh...!

The Reaper's touch......... *

Rotor, for all his biological sophistication, still existed as a mortal being, subject to the touch of Death. Hard to kill, but vulnerable. Ashowan's touch...

... his present weakness, unable to resist the tug to his Spirit... though he felt every detail, as her hand phased through outer shell, and into his body proper. Every sense, suddenly focused! That tug... it pulled out something Deep and Strange. A ghostly lick-breath to Ashowan's withdrawing fingers, so light as to be consciously unfelt, but enough to leave a bit of... "slobber"... behind. An ephemeral trace, rapidly evaporated in that Space between Life, and Death, and Time.

Ahhhhh...!

Pain....

The pain, gone! But... still there. Only now, distant. Clinical. Detached. Elsewhere, while he floated in a misty sky of calm. A spiritual sigh, escaped in the Void Between. Very strange sensations, odd feedback loops. And yet, relief! If only for a time......... *

Memories, fully unlocked... Feel... I feel... my Family... here.... *

Roose.........

He'd meant every word he'd said to Mwezi. After the Usiku shaman's toothy grin and silent bow in return, Roose sealed his declaration by deliberately suppressing the glow of his H'rik Eye, till the light winked out... all his defenses, now down. This young 'Twill, now fully open to Jah's magic. Diversion field, gone....

Roose's seelers still perceived in full, however, and took in the further changes in Rotor's pattern, caused by Ashowan's touch. Took in the sweep and feel of Jah's wings, and the spell's Pattern, as it wove into the structure of Reality. He also took in the head-rub Mwezi gave to Anani... and smiled at the sight, before he joined both them and the others, who had laid hands upon Rotor's coccoon. Yes, his left hand touched, while his right reached for the correct beltpouch, and removed his tissue accelerator, in readiness. With his Eye held shut, he could hear as well as feel the effects of Jah's communication, vocal and otherwise...

... indeed, his Spirit Sister lived up to her... lived up to his trust, in the way she opened herself to eveyone present. In the way Roose had always wanted to see and feel and experience. Ever since they'd first met, he'd felt in her pattern a... restraint. Walls, if you will. Now, he finally saw her in the Light he always knew she could shine with. This experience left him... humbled. His ears and mind took in her words. His eyes focused on her face... on the whole of her Being, in the shine of her own eyes and pattern. The very thought of what he might encounter set his heart to beating stronger, the blood to rush faster, in a measure of excitement and curiousity. Fear? Maybe a little of that, but this event carried a risk for everyone, and he couldn't help being worried for his friends. For Jah.........

Yes, he Felt the honesty in her voice, in the ~I trust you.~ of her words and Spirit. Perceived the completion of her spell...

... yes, he was ready! A deep breath, a calming openness of this 'Twill's Heart and Mind and Spirit, as his tail wrapped around his legs and draped over his feet. A nod to Jah, a deep look into her eyes, while crouched down with the others, by Rotor's side.........

Thoee and Deen.........

If Nism were anything, they were open of Heart. Not in the way of lacking control, or in emotional over-sensitivity, but in the way they left everything... Body, Mind and Spirit... exposed for all to see, if others chose to look. No barriers, no walls, nothing to hide. Thoee and Deen both settled their gazes solidly on the Divine mare, unafraid... the light from their eyes, the beat of both their heartstones, and the rythym of their breath, bright and in tune with the energy of Life, and with the World Around. Ready to hold the Foundations of the Universe, if need be.

In many ways, a mindset very much like the young 'Twill who crouched beside them...

... only doubled.

They even curled their own tails over their feet, in an unconscious show of solidarity, wafting the scents of citrus and nutmeg from one, vanilla and cinimon from the other, cast through the air in a swirl around their bodies. Caught by a passing breeze, and dispersed.........

Like Roose, ready, without the need for words.

At some point the reaper felt 'goo' on her hand. She looked down, blinking at the slobber covering her fingers. The hell? Where'd that come from? She flitted a gaze towards Rotor's encased form, growing suspicions. Did he lick me? Yes. Yes he did. Ashowan laughed, brushing her hand off. A sweet gesture on his part but still ...

Words were spoken, formalities introduced, before Jah~lila turned her attention towards the undeadite and her demoness companion. Well not actually turned her attention ... She conjured up an energy matrix and directed Ashowan's mental eyesight toward it. Entropy was enduring much of the same. Both saw the silvery outline of a spell being summoned. ~ This is the way the spell looks on the outside. 'Twill keep most of the power contained, but like a fish in a net, it will escape through the 'holes' between. ~ That statement came with the company of a corresponding visual - streams of energy trying to escape the 'flow'. ~ Some of the 'fish' will be small enough to fit through. If they escape, they will warp what they touch - starting with us. ~

"We'll become three-eyed mutants with five limbs, pincers, and cotton candy blood." The hell'd that come from?

~ Stopping it will be a matter more of will than power. Whatever you see inside, whatever you feel, must remain attentive. Our lives and more depend upon it. When you catch a bit of energy, guide it here, where the energy feels a bit 'sticky'. The spell will reabsorb the power and use it as fuel. ~

"Alright, and you end up needing any extra energy on top of that, give me a call," offered Entropy.

Ashowan nodded, backing up the Succubus' claim and charity. "Ditto." That was all she said. But her serious face gave foundation.

~ We go deeply, now, friends. Memories may slip through the links from any one of us, but most especially Rotor. We must face the notion that we might all know each other far better by the end of this ordeal before we begin. Whatever you see, recall your task, or tragedy will follow. ~

She showed no hint of emotion, but inwardly she was unnerved. The thought of having others lay witness to her destructive past, troubling present, and corruption through inner demons that will not be named ... A grimace. No, now was time to think about Rotor. And if some of the bodies swept under the rug decided to pop out, so be it.

~ Are you ready? ~

"Let's rock," Entropy nodded.

"Ready!" yelped a grinning Anani.

Roose, Thoee, and Deen said nothing. Ashowan clapped her hands together, took a deep breath, and found a position on the other side of Rotor. Best to keep tabs all around the alien instead of focusing on one spot.

"Fire away."

((Mwezi's response coming soon))

Jah~lila could spare only the barest of moments to be sure the assembled creatures knew what she was asking of them, but she could afford not to even less. The white mare was not the type to throw folk into this kind of mess without their fullest possible understanding. Roose reassured Mwezi as the mare moved on to speak to Ashowan and Entropy. She hoped she had explained the task well enough, but there was no way to know the dangerous, world twisting material's true nature until it was flying right at you.

"We'll become three-eyed mutants with five limbs, pincers, and cotton candy blood," blurted Ashowan, but Jah~lila had no urge to laugh. "We may, or our blood may begin boiling, or our bones turn instantly to ash. 'Tis not an experiment I wish to try." When Entropy and Ashowan offered their power to her in case she ran out of energy to fight the corruption, Jah~lila sent them gratitude colored by the hope she wouldn't have to take them up on this offer. It was a very great reflief to have the offer made. "Thank you," was all she said, already briefing Roose and the bizarre couple next to him.

The white mare was surprised and extremely pleased at how willingly the aliens consented to open their hearts to her. Roose knew her of course, better than many, but for the other two, letting a strager ino their hearts in order to save the life of another stranger seemed an act of great and terrible courage to Jah~lila's eyes. Her precense swept through them, leaving a sense of peace behind as she anchored the spell deep within them. She would depend greatly on their strength in the next minutes, as would all of the rest of these creatures. Still, Jah~lila had not lied when she told them she trusted them to their great task. She was free to turn her mind away from that particular concern and prepare for the jump out of her body and into the swirling agonies multiplying within Rotor.

The healer asked if they were ready, and she Felt for their answers as well.

"I'm ready," rumbled Mwezi firmly, his big paw resting on Rotor's shell in a protective stance, eyes sparkling. Despite the seriousness, Jah~lila sensed that Mwezi was soaking in every aspect of the current situation, a sense of grand adventure warred with worry in his mind. Mwezi was ready.

“Ready!” Anani spoke up after her adoptive father. The young shimmer seemed to be concerned for all of the other players in this nasty game, far above her concern for herself. Her resolve was as firm as her father's. The kitten had a bright heart, and she was ready.

"Let's rock." Entropy nodded her head once expediently. What Jah~lila felt from her was very like what she felt from most warriors on the eve of a great battle or working. The succubus would not waste time, and despite a certain discomfiture, she did not waver in her decision to help. Entropy was ready and more.

"Fire away," Ashowan's voice was on the heels of Entropy's. The Reaper met this challenge unflinchingly, with a determination that showed just how great of an ally she would be. If anyone was up to controlling and guiding the warped energy, it was these two. Ashowan was ready.

Roose, Thoee, and Deen did not require vocal expression. She was within their hearts now, and felt their agreement with more strength than the others. They were ready, impatient to save their fellow otherworldly creature. They were ready with every fiber of their beings, and so was Jah~lila.

"So mote it be." As soon as she felt the agreement of all parties, Jah~lila lowered her horn to touch the top of Rotor's capsule, bending her front knees in what appeared to be a bow. Her wings never left contact with the others. She swept her consciousness into the bodies of Anani and Mwezi, gently taking their spirit selves from their mortal shells. Displacing a spirit from a body without damaging either was a bit tricky, but the white mare managed it with the ease of long practice. With that, she dove into the capsule, passing through and deep into the mind of Rotor. Her mind-self looked like a thing made of pure light. She left trails of fading light in the wake of every movement, and she wore no slave collar. A string of light seemed to stretch upwards and out from each of their spirits, each a different color. Jah~lila told them without words that these were the bonds that connected them to their bodies.

The mare came to the level of consciousness she needed to leave Mwezi and Anani at and released them carefully where they would search for Rotor's Self. ~Look, and you shall find him. Good luck!~ With that, the mare dove again, into chaos itself. The landscape morphed with each passing moment, sometimes hissing like poison, sometimes burning or melting or freezing. It was true that her mortal body was not feeling this, but there was little difference in spacetime like this. The battle had begun and Jah~lila flared her mental wings, diving deeper and deeper still. The trail of light she left behind gave momentary relief to Rotor, but it was the source of the corruption she sought. It had buried itself deeply indeed. Finally, she was close, but there were obstacles in her way. When the first blob of energy shot at her. it was sudden, swifter than she had imagined, leaving her only barely enough time to deflect it. The energy shot upwards, splitting again and again as it went, and Jah~lila could only hope that Entropy and Ashowan were as ready as they had felt.

Breaking through would take a goodly burst of energy, but once she was through the power she used would need to be more subtle, every dram of power would be precious. She needed to act quickly, before anyone's energy began to fail. Jah~lila struck the first barricade with the full, unfettered power of her mind. She managed to compromise the barrier just enough to slip through. A tendril of the energy looped around her back hoof, but screeched strangely and recoiled before zooming up to the surface of the spell along with the blast of force she had just used on it. Her own powers were corrupted them this strange material touched it. By the time it got to the surface, it would be as bad or worse than what she had just encountered. And she was still far from her goal. Her mind-self's eyes lit with an inner fire as she galloped and fought, twisting and wriggling deeper and deeper, seeking the corruption. It was more powerful than she had anticipated. This would not be easy.

"So mote it be."

Mwezi wished he could see the look on the healer's face, but his eyes were still shut at her direction. In the next heartbeat, Mwezi found his spirit self sliding out of his mortal body, wrapped in something that felt warm and pure to his senses. He caught the most unusual sight of them all gathered around Rotor inside the circle of Jah~lila's wings. There was no expression on her face at all, and her eyes remained open to watch for trouble. The mare looked... empty somehow, as did he and Anani. Before he had more than a second to observe this strange scene, Jah~lila had gathered Mwezi and his daughter up.

To Mwezi, Jah~lila was in the form of a great white cat with completely black eyes and a stone glowing brightly on her brow. She kit-carried him and Anani--whose "fur" appeared golden and alive, like rays of the afternoon sun--deep down into the mind of their friend. As she set them down, Mwezi looked at his daughter with surprise. The.. Brightly Burning One? ~Look, and you shall find him. Good luck!~ The unicorn/cat leapt down into nothingness, leaving him and Anani alone. "All right, Imp?" Mwezi's voice somehow carried with it the scent of hot, dry plains and dark and secret places. The markings the moon called out on Mwezi's fur seemed to blaze strangely on his mind-self's coat, culminating in claws a brighter red than they possessed in the world of the concrete. The mane on Mwezi's neck was fuller here, as well, and standing up ever so slightly.

Look for Rotor? But where to look? There was nothing. Even as Mwezi completed this thought, the blankness surrounding them seemed to form itself into large-bladed leaves and flowers that sparkled with silver pollen. There were trees the equal of any Deep Forest had to offer, many greater still. This was the Forest of Night!, the lengendary land Zhanza Shadowwalker was said to have created as her sister Fela Skydancer built the foundations of Earth. So why did it look so familiar? He realized that he was in a section of forest that looked almost exactly like the place they had met Kinyago at the edge of the woods. It was both places at once, it seemed.

How to find Rotor? Was there such a thing as smell here, to track him? As Mwezi thought this, he was suddenly able to smell a rich assortment of scents, few of which he recognized. For the first time, Mwezi saw how he could lose a grip on his true self. Reality seemed quite responsive to will in this state, in this place. Mwezi narrowed glowing, violet eyes and began to stalk forward, glancing back at his daughter frequently, as if afraid she would suddenly vanish. "Anani, what do you see?" he asked curiously as he searched.

[[OoC:: I'm gonna go ahead and post now... I can't figure out the posting order 'cuz my brain is dead. D= ]]

The sensation of slipping out of her own body was both frightening and extremely thrilling for the young Shimmer. Odd though this was, nothing was stranger than seeing all of her friends and herself down on the ground, standing in various positions. The oddest thing though, was the expressions on their faces. Or actually, the lack of one. Anani, Mwezi and Jah looked like statues, with no warmth or personality. That actually made sense… their spirits weren’t exactly home at the moment.

But in seconds, Jah had picked the two of them up, and Anani giggled as the mare did so. In seconds, they were in the place they were supposed to be, and Jah, looking like the same thing to Ani as much like she did to Mwezi, left them with a wish of good luck. Ani waved, although she was pretty sure Jah couldn’t see them now. At that moment, she realized her fur was colored differently…

“Whoah! My fur is shiny and gold and stuff!” the Shimmer exclaimed, grinning. She glanced over in her father’s direction, and gasped slightly. The big cat was a lot more… well, he looked sharper in color than before. It was pretty cool looking, and the kittenchild realized she’d miss the way everything looked here as she looked around. It was a very pretty place, full of trees that reminded her of Deep Forest and other things that looked unfamiliar, but still beautiful.

In fact, this place kinda looked like the place where she and Mwezi and Rotor had met Dimitri-Rasul-Kinyago-Guy. But… there was no smell. Until the moment she thought of smell, that is. Once she did, she could smell the scents of her forest home, much more sharply than before. Everything here was a lot more clear in her eyes, and she found it was really fun to be able to smell all these things so much more vividly.

"All right, Imp?"

Ani blinked, and glanced at her father. “Yeah, I’m okay, Daddy!” she said, her voice seeming to echo in her own ears. That was kind of funny, so she tried speaking again. “Nyaaaaaah gorgo wah doooooowhoosh!” she called, giggling as her voice bounced around.

Noticing that Mwezi was walking off, Anani bounced off after him, grinning broadly despite the situation, which she cheerfully tried to forget. Instead, she looked around for Shadow, who didn’t seem to be there anymore. Apparently the Shadowma had been left behind. Oh well. Shadow wouldn’t have liked this place anyway.

"Anani, what do you see?"

Mwezi’s curious voice floated back to the kittenchild, and Anani blinked, forgetting about her friend for the moment.

“Oh! Uhm…” Ani glanced around as she spoke. “Well, I don’t see Rotor anywhere, but I do see a buncha trees, and it kinda looks like the place where we met Dimitri-Rasul-Kinyago-Guy, you remember him? But it’s all a lot clearer, like it’s… uhm, really bright. I dunno. And I’m all shiny gold, which is kinda nifty, and Shadow’s not here, either.” The kittenchild paused. “Why, isn’t that what you see?”

And so the lion fell in love with the lamb...

What a stupid lamb.
What a sick, masochistic lion.

"So mote it be."

The unicorn touched her horn to Rotor's shell, and Entropy knew from the empty looks that appeared on her companions faces that the battle had begun. Though the succubus was to remain in the outside world, she could see the spirits of the others descending through the spell matrix. She couldn't watch them too closely, however, as she had to keep her eye on the entire spell to make sure none of the energy from within slipped past her.

Once Jah~lila had deposited Anani and Mwezi, she continued on deeper into Rotor's mind. As she drew near her destination, a blob of energy shot towards her, but was deflected and sent rising rapidly to the surface. Entropy saw it coming, spitting again and again into many pieces.

"Here come our fish," Entropy said.

The bits of energy that remained too large to fit through the holes in the matrix bounced back upon hitting the edge of the spell, but some pieces struggled through the holes while others slipped through easily. None of them could be allowed to remain in the outside world. Crossing her arms, Entropy stared straight at them and locked her will onto as many as she could. Then, gesturing with one hand, she pushed them onto the sticky part of the spell Jah~lila had indicated.

Hopefully Ashowan would be able to get the rest before they caused any damage.
