I have a theory called Reincarnation Hierarchy, which explains why you don’t tend to see many people who claim to have, for example, the spirit of a fly. Hierarchy, meaning “Categorization of a group of people according to ability or status.” If anyone else came up with this theory, it is purely coincidental.

The rules of the Theory of Reincarnation Hierarchy:

- Spirits from animals of a certain class of general intelligence circulate amongst their class, and rarely circulate into an animal of a higher or lower class.
- There are three classes of general intelligence; Class A, B, and C.
- Class A is the highest class of general intelligence, which includes many mammals, aviary, dromaeosaur, and other similar animals.
- Class B is the median class of general intelligence, which includes most insects, bugs, and other similar animals, which are not commonly found in Class A.
- Class C is the lowest class of general intelligence, which includes all living organisms, including plants and single-celled organisms which are generally never found in Class A, or B.
- Each class has it’s own energy level.
- Certain parity may not know some, or any of the organisms they were in a past life.
- The organism(s) one may associate with was their first (2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc) life when their energy was first created.
- Abstract memories from past lives may be available, if such energy is correctly stored within one’s spirit.
- The cycle is continuous, and goes on forever; however there may be delays.

An in Depth Examination of Reincarnation Hierarchy and Therianism:

Reincarnation Hierarchy is global, and affects every living organism on the planet, even if they are not aware in any way. Those people who believe that they can feel the spirit of another organism (in Class A) simply can feel their spirit’s original properties when their energy was first created. For those who can feel multiple spirits, they are feeling other energies that their spirit may have picked up while they were in that life. However, it is rare that people even realize their previous energies at all. The reason people who recall a past life do not recall a past life as a fly, for example, is because humans are in Class A, and a fly would be in Class B. The fly’s spirit cannot leave Class B organisms, and a spirit in a human cannot leave Class A organisms. People who can recall previous energies from their past life, or lives, are called Therianthropes, if their spirit was an animal other than a human.

Therianthropy simply means someone who can recall a spiritual connection with an animal, or animals, and nothing more. Do not confuse this term with people who pretend they are an animal for illogical, and/or sexual reasons, or obsession. There are other terms for people who are like that, which will not be discussed here. A therian person may try and synchronize with their animal through meditation, etc. to learn more about how their life was as that animal and what it felt like to be that animal. A therian may also feel like that animal at certain times, when their energies are correct to do so. It may be possible for a therian to recall memories of when they were that animal, through uncontrolled day-dreaming, if those memories were stored in their spirit's energy. Memories are usually traumatic events.
Re: Therianthropes/Otherkin?
As a believer in reincarnation, I definately believe that there are those out there who have lived out one or more lives as animals. If I have, and I'm not sure about this one, I've been a wolf. Wolves seem to guide me in this life, though I'm not sure if that's because of therianthropy or otherwise. I've had several dreams of the same white wolf in the past, probably trying to deliver me a message or get me to realize something; though since I still don't get it she'll probably resort to thwapping me over the head with an ethereal baseball bat next time.
I agree with this. Too many say that they are therians and/or lycanths, just to gain attention, and this is what most people disregard as insanos or wild imaginations. I've also read too many occult books saying that "Physical transformations CAN OCCUR! Don't disregard them as myths!" -snorts- Yeah, right. In my opinion those are the lies believed by "fluff-witches." Many real therians/weres experience mental shifts, in which their personality takes on aspects of an animal, to a point that it is readily recognized by the outside world. Some see their animal aspects as a balance to their human selves, teaching them their place in the natural world, and so, many are environmenally- oriented. This closely applies to me, I believe, for since becoming Pagan, I've become more in tune with the environment. Also, many therians shift on the astral level, using their animal form when travelling astrally. (Note: something I've not been able to do -- yet. )

The variety of phenotypes (a therian's phenotype is the animal which the therian identifies him or herself with) is very long, and even includes some animals which are thought to be mythical or legendary, such as dragons and windigowak. It is possible that there is some relationship between therianthropy (lycanthropy refer to king Lycon, who was changed into a wolf; hence it refers to a "wolf-man"; therianthropy means "animal-man") and the people who refer to themselves as "Otherkin", and who believe that they have the souls of elves, or other "faery"-type beings. This is true particularly of some of the "mythical" therianthropes such as dragons.

I'll close this rather beefy (wow, it has gotten long, hasn't it? ) post with a bit of trivia I thought interesting. Unsurprisingly, but not something I'd thought of before I read this-- werewolves aren't the most common form of belief in were-creatures... werefoxes in Africa, werejaguars in South America, weresharks in Polynesia, werebears in Scandinavia, and weretigers in China. ^_^
