Of Forests, Flowers, and Fuzzballs (Open)

Post by ZeroDrawn »

The scene was set: Towering trees that stretched as far as the eye could see in every possible direction, and reached what felt like an endless reach into the sky...branches thickly woven together, spreading every imaginable shade of green across the leafiest growths...connected so intricately as to bring protection and privacy to the forest floor, yet lax in weave to let rays of sunlight shatter through, sprinkling the forest floor with patches of golden light and an aural brightness that would ease any creature's task of finding their own path through the trees. This light also accented the splash of colour that swept across the ground...greenery in the forms of moss, shrubs, and grasses were mixed together with flowers of shapes, sizes, and shades, to create a picturesque vista that one may have thought only to find in a work of art.

Of course, this was very much a work of art...painted by the eldest artisan of the craft, Mother Nature herself. It was in this serene and tranquil place that two short furry cat-creatures briskly walked through.

"Ohhhh, look how colourful they arrrreee...", spoke first a white nekojin, who went by the name "Ze".. Limited in stature at a measly four feet even, he would not have stood out if it weren't for the startlingly snow whiteness of his furr - every inch of his visible body was covered in the moderate layer of pure white fuzz, and camouflage was clearly not his forte as he stood out amongst the greens and browns around him like a sore thumb. Large triangular ears sprouted out each side of his head, emerging from his smooth white hair as if they lived there. His eyes were large, expressive pools of a soft black-pupiled blue, lively and on the move as he checked out his surroundings. His body was small, but healthy, with hands that were a blend between catpaw and human fingers. He wore a pair of bluejeans but no shirt, with a hole cut in the rear of the jeans from which his spry, lively white tail popped out, eagerly flicking about as if it were trying to snatch something out of the air. His feet were the last part of them, and they were noticeably big - wide, they looked thick and 'floppy', though to no great extreme.

The black nekojin, named "Ro", that followed a few feet behind the white one tilted his head and mewed softly, blinking. It was clear that they were twins, for their features and clothing were identical except for the fact that one was black and one white, and that the black one wore an appropriately sized grey backpack on his back. He lifted a paw and pointed at a bundle of flowers clutched in Ze's fingers. "What, those?", he asked curiously.

"Ahuh! Lookit 'em!", Ze said as he stopped and about faced, which caused Ro to come to a jolted halt. The white neko held up the bundle of flowers, and Ro continued to blink softly. They were certainly very colourful...and a wide range of types, he noticed. Tulips, daisies, roses (clutched carefully in caution of the thorns), violets and even a dandelion too...plus a few others that Ro couldn't identify, in various shades of pink, purple, and green. He shrugged lightly and nodded, scratching the back of his head.

"Yuh, they're pretty colorful...I 'unno why ya need em 'fer though. What good are they if ya yank 'em out of the ground, they'll just with up 'n die after that." Ro crossed his arms and blinked.

Ze seemed to roll his eyes and gave his brother a playful little shove. "Hey!", Ro cried out, only to be met by the giggles of his twin. He merfed and shook his fist at Ze and even stamped his foot. "Dun go pushin me around just cause I'm tellin ya tha tru---myuh!?" Ro suddenly found himself silenced as Ze stepped right up to him and cupped his cheek in one paw. His furr was accented by red as he blushed, and the giggling little Ze gracefully plucked a violet from his collection with his tail and daintily slipped it behind Ro's ear, where it stayed in place to add a touch of purple to his blackened visage.

Ze stepped backwards and giggled some more, framing up his brother in squared paws and looking through the 'lens' with one eye closed. "Myuhah! Tha looks good on yew...take some of the attention off yer grouchy ol' scowl." He laughed into a paw quietly as Ro did exactly that - scowled and hissed lightly.

"Flowers are fer girls, yaknnow! I can't be walkin around with this junk in mah ear, people'd laugh!" He made as if to dislodge it from his ear but stopped midway as Ze made the poutiest face he could manage and clasped his paws together.

"Plllleeeaaassseee dun take it out! It looks good on yew, it really does! Please please please!" he whined softly, a soft mew joining a high whimper. Ro let out an exasperated sigh and hung his head, shaking it. He had clearly given in though, as his paw fell away and the flower remained in place.

"I look like a freakin flowergirl for pete's sakes..." His gaze snapped up as Ze had leapt back towards him, catching both of the blackfurred neko's paws in his own and squeezing them. "Hyuh? o_o"

"You look good, I promise promise. I'm the last person'd that lie to you, trust meeeeee!" Ze squeezed Ro's paws again and hopped lightly. This caused the black neko to make a sickly face and he roughly shook his paws free, rolling his eyes and digging his hands into his backpack.

"Fine! Lord, whatever. I'll wear the dang thing if it'll make yeh happy. But I ain't listenin to you babble on bout how pretty this junk is." He merfed as he yanked out a few inch thick disc-shaped silver CD-player and a pair of earbud headphones, slipped the player into his pocket, and popped the buds into his ears. Music had already begun playing, though the sound would be indistinct to anyone but the listener. Ze giggled softly and tickled at his brother's sides, which had Ro fold his arms against his body and squeak loudly. He looked about to say something but the whitefurred flowerpicker had already turned away and resumed his conquest to find the prettiest flower he could find. Ro just sighed and reluctantly followed, bobbing his head lightly as he jammed to some tunes.

Sunlight was all but choked out here it seemed, but there was light. It came from no particular source, keeping the forest floor lit cheerily. Here, there was a well worn path hewn into the earth. Even though there was a chill breeze, no snow could be seen. It was a sharp contrast to the outer edges of the forest which Dalsh had frequented for many days before using what knowledge he had gathered from the few who had met him and traveling deeper into the forest. Though he did not feel the cold air or the chill wind, Dalsh pulled his robes and cloak tight around his thin frame, moving carefully to keep any outreaching branch or brush from catching hold of the worn fabric.

He moved like death itself, leaving barely a sign of his passing. Perhaps a slight depression in exposed soil, a bent blade of grass as he stepped from the path to avoid some obstacle, but no true mark was made. The necromancer was as some level of ill ease having yet to meet anyone within the forest, and particularly along this path. Around him, it was alive. Noises filled the air from song birds, woodland creatures, and other sounds he could not identify. He tilted his head, the long slope of his skull passing over a flat, flared, and almost bat-like nose to end in the point of a chin. His lips were pulled back slightly in an unreadable expression of observation, exposing several points of his yellowed, scythe teeth. Dalsh’s flesh was corpse grey with a slight green tint in some areas. This same flesh had the look of aged parchment, stretched tight over his frame and giving him a starved, emaciated look. Large, pointed, bat like ears extended from the sides of his head to curve behind nearly an inch past his skull. They were partially hidden by the shoulder length tangles of rust red-brown hair that intertwined with several quills and dead looking feathers, feathers stripped of the filaments that made up their beauty.

Dalsh appeared cautious, black eyes gazing from sunken sockets as he looked through the trees and beyond. But he was a stranger here, yet to make his home and was thus exploring, if not for knowledge, for real estate. Even in this, Dalsh still wondered. His first meeting upon his arrival was a form of elven. She had mentioned guardians to this place, horses with wings and horns she called unicorns. While he had read many of the dark wizard Morgan’s books and knew much in the way of strange creatures and other realms, Dalsh had never heard of, or seen such a creature as a unicorn. Perhaps this was his reason for moving along a well used path, knowing he would meet someone, something that may lead him to such a creature, if not being such a creature itself.

His fingers tightened around his cloak as he paused, tilting his head to turn his ear to a faint sound. Tilting his head back, his black eyes gazed upward toward the high tree tops, wondering how well a horse with wings could fly within the trees. Dismissing the thought as nothing but guesswork and thus unreliable, he continued on his way, grey, forked tongue flicking from between slightly parted jaws every few minutes. His teeth were all pointed and were far too many within his mouth, explaining it’s elongated nature and the strange nature of his head shape. The long, softly curved canines on his upper and lower jaws would not even clear each other normally unless he opened his mouth wide in a yell or threat. While he was not a physical fighter, he had confidence of his abilities here enough to see no reason in sneaking about.

Passing quietly through the trees, a splash of color suddenly seemed to appear in the otherwise many shaded green and brown environment. He turned, pausing to let his eyes settle upon a most beautiful flower. Dalsh tilted his head to the side, moving off the path to crouch beside it and run his black, curved claws over the peddles carefully as to not harm it. His black eyes flashed a dark purple and he quickly withdrew his hand as if he had been burned, letting his arms drape over his crouched legs as he sat on his heels, tilting his head at the flower. Never before had he seen such a thing blooming in winter times.
I'm smiling. That alone should scare you.

It was indeed a picturesque locale, and for quite a ways around. The green of the grass, the flowers, the leaves in the trees, not a trace of snow... Only from the slight chill could an outside observer have ever guessed the time of year. Not that it was the only mark of winter's touch. With many creatures hibernating or otherwise less active, the forest sounds were a bit more subdued than at other times of year. Not that they were deafening at the loudest of times (well, usually), but things were especially quiet during those months. Dalsh was silent as the winds, and the cats' paws made for soft footfalls, but another's steps were... audible, especially for the contrast. The sound of hooves on the Forest's grassy floor was not unknown in those parts; the frequent passing of unicorns through the area was one reason for the unseasonable greenery, after all. However, the clopping sounds they produced tended to come in two pairs rather than one.

Devon, the owner of that pair of gray hooves was passing through the area. He had earlier been annoyed at the sound, but almost didn't notice the clip-clops any more. 'On the bright side,' he'd told himself, 'the sounds could be coming from four hooves.' They still could, if the fancy struck him -- 'not bloody likely'. While most animal-like creatures that walked on two legs resembled the twins, with their semi-human hands, this donkey-person had hooves at the ends of his arms. A fact as frustrating to him as observers might imagine, and one he was still getting used to. Along with a few others, actually. Fur, for one. His coat was mostly light-gray, not that different in color from Dalsh's flesh, albeit a much more lively shade than the Quillirian's. There was white around his hooves, eyes, and the end of his new muzzle, currently sporting a look of concentrated annoyance, and on his chest and stomach. These latter two were fully exposed; like the twins, Devon wore only a pair of blue jeans, his tail poking out of the back where it twitched every now and then. Yes, that rope-like appendage, with a tuft of brown hair at the tip, felt perhaps the oddest of his changes. Not that the comically long, pointed, and all-too-expressive ears were out of the running, but he'd at least had ears back when he was human. They were pointing back behind him next to his hair and mane, both brown like the tail's tuft.

It would have been an amusing coincidence had Ro's current song been "Sweet Dreams are Made of These," because it seemed like everybody was looking for something. Ze and Ro, the latter with *ahem* less enthusiasm, sought the prettiest damn flower in the Forest, while Dalsh was interested in finding a unicorn, or at least a place of his own. And Devon was looking for... 'Really, a name? How the hell do you find a name!' Indeed, this was what had the ex-human frustrated. The Fairest, the one who'd 'blessed' the young man with his new shape, had implicitly promised to turn him back if he could find her name... and then told him squat about how to find it. 'Is it a glowing orb I have to chase down and catch? Do I have to find someone who knows and trick them into saying it? ... Is it just lying in a chest, somewhere?' That last one might prove tricky, he thought, shooting his forehooves a glare. His tail twitched in annoyance again. 'And dear jebus is that getting old!' Another twitch. 'I said, quit it!' Yet another. 'Argh!'

The sound of Devon's hoofsteps stopped. He took a deep breath. He refused to get into a war of wills with his own tail. Not least of which because he expected to lose. Devon made up another reason. 'Okay, things could be better. Jebus, could they be better... But it won't help to focus on that, and things could be a lot worse. You can still walk like you used to, you can still talk' -- usually -- 'and you've still got your pants. ... Okay, that last one's kinda weak, but it beats the alternative.' Devon looked around where he was, and his ears perked up high in surprise. He'd been plodding along so long, he didn't even realize what was around him. 'The Forest is a beautiful place, you can take care of yourself comfortably, and you haven't met a single jerk since you've been here.' That last one might be subject to revision, what with the high chance of meeting Dalsh in a few minutes. But nevertheless, his mood improved. He didn't quite smile, but he lost the scowl, and his tail even gave a little swish.

Then his ears swiveled. Devon could make out some voices a ways ahead. 'Might as well be sociable.' He took one step, but paused as a thought crossed his mind. It got a smile, and a chuckle. Devon cleared his throat. Then he started off again through the lush verdant wood with a cheery tune in mind: 'Always look on the briiiiiight side of life...' And so he began to whistle.

OOC: GAHHH, I'm soooo sorry! ><

Note: Karkeno is only being used as an introduction device. He will not be reintroduced after this post.

BIC:

"Just like this.... that's right, just capture the current under your wing, up and up, then slam down right on that stream of air...."

"I'mmm.... I'm getting there!"

High in the deep, yet bright blue ocean floating above the earth, an ice-colored phoenix was climbing into the clouds as a smaller, dark-colored chick of the same kind followed her streaming tail unsurely. At first glance, they may have seemed like family- relatives, sharing a carefree and helpful flight lesson in the afternoon sun- but this wasn't quite the case. These two pheonixes, in fact, had only just met some time ago this day, but had struck a friendly connection with each other, enough for a more experienced creature of flight to feel comfortable in teaching a new life to share her joy with the endless sky.

Simi had found the little chick making futile attempts to find a steady hold on the wind. He was of an age where learning to fly was appropriate, but with his parents elsewhere he decided to try and make a lesson of his own. Simi had been quite surprised- but very pleased- when she stumbled upon him in her pheonix form; though she had seen unicorns every now and then, she rarely saw an animal that shared her second-nature shape. The younger one, whose name was Karkeno, took to her almost immediately and they began a conversation on the fine weather, and the beauty of the forest. Eventually the black pheonix explained his dilemna, and Simi, knowing that she had knowledge to give, offered to help him learn how to find a good, steady flight path.

Now the two were rising higher and higher, getting closer into a wind path that would give a great relief to the inexperienced flyer. Simi looked back over her shoulder, making sure that her little student was keeping up. "Alright, about three more wingbeats and we're right in!" she spoke over the wind.

The movement into their destination was quick, and welcomed. The two phoenixes were suddenly pulled into an air stream that quickened their speeds, causing them to gentle their wings' movements abruptly. However, each mythbird, both shifter and the real thing, felt a sense of accomplishment.

"Are we in it, now?"
Karkeno asked his mentor.

Simi nodded enthusiastically. "Yep, we are!"

"Whoa, thanks! Thank you, Simi!" The younger bird then made a slight turn to the right. "I'm gonna go find my parents! I want to show them what I can do!" He began flapping his wings forward, growing farther away from Simi.

The ice-blue pheonix laughed warmly. "I'll see you later!"

However, the shifter stayed on the path that she had been following. Today was a nice day to just glide by as the forest, beautiful and budding even in its wintery state, show-cased itself to her in all its glory. Watching as the flowered clearings blew in the soft breeze, the gentle rustles of the upper branches of the trees as small birds and animals played within its leafy blanket....

My forest, Simi suddenly thought, and the words hit her heart. My new forest..... My forest to care for, and..... the flowers and the animals... and Karkeno and everyone..... I can be a guardian, now.... of this, new forest of mine.... Her bottom beak quivered, and she began blinking her dark violet eyes rapidly. Yes, she had a new forest to be a guardian to. One that could never end in bloodshed, or be overtaken by human beings greedy for magic and power. Her new forest, her new home, her new heart, was all beneath her as she flew past. It felt good....

And now she felt a sudden desire to reach down and touch the forest floor. So, angling herself, Simi began lowering back down to earth.

Now that the brightly colored plants- and creatures scuttling beneath it- were closer to her eye, she could enjoy them more fully. By now the pheonix was only about 20 feet from the ground, and it was easier to recognize the different shapes.

"Myuhah! Tha looks good on yew...take some of the attention off yer grouchy ol' scowl."

The pheonix abruptly turned her head. That voice... I know that voice!! Simi made a turn, speeding toward the direction from where Zero's amused maows came from.

"Flowers are fer girls, yaknnow! I can't be walkin around with this junk in mah ear, people'd laugh!"

And I know that voice, too, Simi giggled inwardly. She was sure- it must be Ze And Ro arguing with each other, a yin-yan form of Zero Drawn, himself.

"Plllleeeaaassseee dun take it out! It looks good on yew, it really does! Please please please!" A pleading, mew-whining voice- probably Ze's.

The pheonix continued to follow their conversation, and her speed gradually increased to a thrilling 85 miles per hour. In this form, Simi could go to a 120 miles at the most, but she did not want to be winded when she arrived.

Finally, after some faithful time of travel, she found was she was looking for. Two furry nekojins- one white as the mild snow around him, the other black as night's essence- were conversing among the natural gardens of Deep Forest. For a moment Simi wondered if she should return to her unicorn form so they would recognize her, but she was quickly reminded that as manifistations of Zero, they would already know that this was her.

"Fine!" Ro grunted. Lord, whatever. I'll wear the dang thing if it'll make yeh happy. But I ain't listenin to you babble on bout how pretty this junk is."

Simi was incredibly overjoyed to see them.

"Ze, Ro!" The pheonix landed a few feet away from them, her eyes shining. "Hey!" It does feel a little new, elaborating on Zero's name... Ze, Ro, Simi giggled to herself.

OOC: Izzokay. :P I went ahead and ate all your icecream in the meantime. XP

===IC===

The two Nekojins were on a quest for beauty...one, perhaps, a little less dedicated to it than the other. But the potential of what they could find in this forest was rearing to make itself apparent in many forms. Unbeknowsnt to them, a being easily passing for Grim Death itself slipped smoothly and quietly through the forested environment, on a quest of his to meet none other than a unicorn. Perhaps today was his lucky day, perhaps today he would get to meet both a phoenix -and- a Unicorn in the same span of time, just as Zero had been blessed enough to do when he first met Simi, the multi-talented Unicorn of sky blues and purple ocular hues. For at this very moment, she soared above, and then down below, to make meeting with the two Nekojin. The situation was building up to something potentially interesting...how would they all take it if Dalsh made himself apparent to them? Would they fear his grotesque form? Perhaps this would be the chance for mild mannered "Devon Wayne" to throw on his D-emblem spandex suit and become SuperDonkey, Donkey of Steel!

Ze was the first to catch glance of the Phoenix as she touched down and also the first to catch her words. "Ze, Ro! Hey!" she called out to them. Ze seemed to hesitate only for a moment as the memory of Zero's paw gliding gently across the smooth phoenixes feathers flashed back to him - that moment where he had exposed his aura and touched with both his paw and his soul, it created a memory entrenched deep within his heart, and within the hearts of his troublesome twosome. Seeing Simi brought it back like an instant reflex, instinct, and Ze's eyes lit up. So happy he was to see her again he simply dropped all the flowers he had been carrying, and ran right up to her, blinking with wide eyes of wonder and awe at the form he would never get tired of seeing.

"S-s-s-s-s...Simi! ^-^ Simi!" His whole body shook and quivered as he pressed his paws together and squeezed them. Whatever he tried to resist was simply futile though, quickly setting his flowers on the ground in a small pile as he ran right up to the magnificent icy blue skybird and made an attempt to hug up against her, , mewing and meowing all along the way, cheeks so well blushed they added a strong shade of pink to the otherwise pure white.

Throughout all this, Ro seemed noticeably less enthusiastic to see the Uniphoenix... Actually, he seemed not to notice at all! His eyes closed, he broke into a little jig, scooting forward with gentle gyrations of his form and twitching of his arms and legs indicating beat. He clutched an imaginary microphone and held it close to his mouth as he began to recite the lyrics into it, dancing along with them with snapthrusts of his body and sharp movements.

"It ain't a question of how, or just a matter of when, you get the message that I'm trying to send!" He clutched the 'microphone' with both paws and bent somewhat low. "I'm under a spell, I'm in over my head!" He shook his head softly. "And you know I'm going all of the way to the enddddddd...." He shot one paw high into the air and pointed at the sky, opening his eyes as he sung with renewed enthusiasm and vigor.

"TO STAND OUT! Above the crowd! Even if I gotta shout out loud, till mine is the only face you'll see! Gonna stand out...till you notice meee!"

Not a professional singer by any means, his moderate voice still fit the song and he probably would have gotten applause at a karaoke bar. XD And at this point, he was pretty likely to be noticed, though it was for all the wrong reasons. His showmanship and the arrival of Simi had blocked their attention from the approaching footsteps and whistling of the grey-hooven walking-gifted donkey, but if he kept up in their direction it was inevitable they'd eventually meet. Dalsh was somewhere out of their line of sight, though he may very well have just found the most beautiful flower in the forest, something that Ze would have struck up competition or contest to get from him.

The flower perhaps proved to be a rare species, and one that could be very useful for his abilities. Dalsh slid a hand into his robe, withdrawing a square of ragged cloth which he draped over one palm, while he used his other hand to reach out and cleanly cut the stem of the flower with a curved black claw.

"Very nice," he mused to himself, his gravel toned voice reflecting a pleased mood. He set the flower in the cloth and quickly wrapped it up, slipping it back into his robe just as a sound of hooves reached his pointed ears. Dalsh quickly stood, his oddly shaped head turning toward the noise, black eyes narrowing. He recognized the sound as that of a horse's hooves, but there was something odd about the sound. Only one pair. As far as he knew, horses had four.

This place was odd, perhaps the horses here only had one pair of hooves. So far, Dalsh had formed an opinion of this new place as something similar to the Beneath. It was almost like a hub of realms, just as the Beneath was. The quills in his hair lifted, spiking outward and giving him a similar appearance of a porcupine. Tucking his hands into his robe and shifting his posture so that the black cloak would fall over his thin frame, Dalsh passed through the trees back to the path, twisting his head toward the sound of the hooves.

Just as he took one step, a loud sound echoed behind him. Oddly, it sounded like someone singing. And badly at that. Twisting, his posture slightly hunched and hissing toward the noise, Dalsh parted his jaws slightly, letting the grey, forked tongue flick out, tasting the magic of the air. There was something powerful there. Turning his head toward the single pair of hoof beats, the Quillirian growled under his breath and turned away from the singing, making for the sound. Singing creatures almost guaranteed annoyance, while hoof beats promised something else entirely.

As the path wound around a tree, Dalsh stepped into view, stopping as his black eyes fell upon a creature making its way up the road. Though he had only been to a few realms, he was quite sure a creature like that should be walking on all four of it's feet. A confused expression graced his face, jaw opened slightly, one eye larger than the other as he watched what he was quite sure to be a donkey walking on two legs toward him.

((OOC: Ha! XD Oh, I would not wanna see that face pop up in the woods...

And Zero, I think you're supposed to share stolen ice cream with the rest of the class. :DD This is a breach of etiquette that cannot stand!))

Devon's ears perked up anew. The somewhat high voices he'd heard were coming through clearer. And they seemed to be interspersed around... mews? 'Are there talking cats up ahead?' he wondered. He supposed someone could just as easily have a pet, but... No, the nearer the donkey got, the more the voices and kitty noises sounded similar, to the point that he was quite certain they came from the same throats. Two of them, he decided. 'Nice when these things actually come in handy,' Devon thought, eyes shooting in the direction of the ears. They also picked up the sound of wings descending ahead, perhaps in the same area. 'Huh. That definitely sounded bigger than a blue jay, whatever it was.' He couldn't be blamed for not guessing what the wings of a phoenix sounded like. Brownie points for getting the color about right, though.

There was a hello from a new voice -- and a nice one, rather soothing and pleasant -- and an adorable response from one of the cats. So, Devon found himself in a situation both old and unfamiliar; he'd been in a position to eavesdrop before, but the longer ears now allowed him to do so from quite a bit further away. He didn't want to be rude and listen in on a private conversation, after all. Then again, there were many with keen hearing in the Forest, so the donkey wondered if not speaking in a whisper was simply a known and accepted risk. 'Eh, better err on politeness.' But before he could start on some way of not listening in, the second kitty started singing. Devon's ears twitched, and he smiled a little. The singing wasn't bad; it actually had kind of a nice sound to it. Besides, the ex-human was occasionally blowing nigh-soundlessly or hitting the wrong notes. Still, if he didn't know any better, he'd have sworn he sounded nicer than when he was human. Because he did. Ah, the fun of fae magic making everything more appealing... Devon closed his eyes to listen a bit better.

It was a shame for Dalsh he had gone for the sound of hooves over the singing; it was almost like passing over Door #2 to stick with Door #1, concealing a car and a farm animal respectively. Actually, other than the doors, and Simi's inability to become an automobile, it was exactly like that. Anyway, Devon, the destitute man's unicorn, wrote off the dead thing's light steps as the pattering of some small forest creature. And, eyes still closed, he decided to join the song in his head, already in progress. So, when Dalsh stepped out, his face was quite justified at the sight of not just a bipedal donkey, but a singing bipedal donkey: "Always look on the briiiight side of death," a whistle, "Just before you draw your teeerminal breath," another whistle. At least, of the song's lyrics, they would probably be of greatest appeal to Dalsh.

Around this time, perhaps because of some flummoxed noise the Quillirian was making, Devon opened his eyes. "Oh, life's a piece of-- !" And then those eyes chanced on Dalsh. Mr. Delash's mug wasn't the most uplifting at the best of times. So, when contorted into a look of... let's say 'incredulous shock', especially coming out of nowhere and on the heels of a Monty Python song, that visage was distressing to the unsuspecting donkey. Enough for him to cry a horrified "Dah!!", stumble back wide-eyed on a pair of hooved legs unused to stumbling back, and, consequently, to fall backwards onto the path. And onto his tail. Which got his eyes even wider and sent another unhappy cry ringing through the forest. Albeit more of a donkey's than the first human one. This really just added insult to injury; he could swear he heard the bray echoing off the trees. Even to the clearing of kitties and phoenix-shifted unicorns, maybe. In a lighter moment, he might have thought, 'I coulda been a wolf with a howling reflex, but noooooo~'

But it wasn't really a lighter moment for Devon; it felt like his heart had beat its way half the distance through his equine chest. 'What the hell is that!?' He'd seen plenty of interpretations of ghasts and ghouls in his lifetime, but a) the drawings hadn't captured it, and b) it's one thing to say, "I'ma look at this creepy thing," and look at a creepy thing, and quite another to say, "I'ma whistle cheeri-- Holy crap, what the hell!?" So, the donkey sat there, trembling, ignoring the light pain in his tail, and looking at the Quillirian. 'Okay. Deep breaths. Calm down.' He breathed deep. Much better. 'Okay. No problem. Just got surprised. That's all. It happens. Just say 'hi' and everything will be fine.' Not a bad plan. Though it did hinge on Dalsh being friendly...

Devon pushed himself onto his hind legs, then looked back over his shoulder and ran a wrist along his tail. It twinged faintly, and he winced slightly -- more because he expected it to be worse -- but it didn't seem broken. He sighed in relief and turned back to the stranger. The face didn't send a shudder through him. A good sign. Then again, he was still shaking a bit. Droop-eared, he gave Dalsh a small, sheepish smile, and began returning to his two-legged stand. "Eheheh... Good day." Devon, upright again, began rubbing the back of his head, next to the mane, with his left front hoof. "Sorry about all that. You... kinda took me by surprise, is all." Even though Devon would believe that dressing up in spandex and being called SuperDonkey was a grand way to die of embarrassment, he at least had the 'mild-mannered' aspect of a secret identity played to the hilt.

Ze turned to the pheonix and seemed to pause only for a moment before his soft, kitten-blue eyes lit up with recognition. The bundle of flowers cradled in his paws dropped to the snow-sprinkled forest floor, and he wore an overjoyed smile as he ran right up to Simi, blinking with wonder and causing the pheonix to smile shyly.

"S-s-s-s-s...Simi! ^-^" The snowy-furred nekojin shook with delight as he pressed his paws together anxiously. "Simi!"

Ze then quickly laid his remaining flowers on the ground before making a beeline for Simi, arms outstretched to embrace her in a warm, kitten's-cuddle hug.

The shifter was caught by surprise when she was given a sudden, affectionate glomp, for as pathetic as this sounds she had never experienced a human-natured hug in her life. However, it felt very nice and comforting, especially coming from a loving nekojin such as Ze, and she laughed and straightened her swan-like neck, reaching to rub Ze's cheek with her own, pulling her wings up against her so they wouldn't take up so much space. At her pheonix height she stood about four feet from head to talon, so this wasn't a difficulty. "I missed you too, Ze."

The pheonix looked on toward the color-inverted twin, Ro, and tipped her head curiously as the cat seemed to be dancing to an unheard tune, later adding his own voice into the show as he sung out:

"It ain't a question of how, or just a matter of when, you get the message that I'm trying to send! I'm under a spell, I'm in over my head!" He shook his head softly. "And you know I'm going all of the way to the enddddddd...." He shot one paw high into the air and pointed at the sky, opening his eyes as he sang passionately into the forest's sky.

"TO STAND OUT! Above the crowd! Even if I gotta shout out loud, till mine is the only face you'll see! Gonna stand out...till you notice meee!"

It was all too much, and Simi had to giggle with humor. "Hey, there, R-"

"Daaahhh!"

The distant, echoing cry made the pheonix jump and turn her head to the side, giving out a surprised, "ip!" as she flapped her wings once to let out some of the shock she had gotten. "What--" she looked over at the two nekojins with her, eyes open with alarm.

That was no animal's cry- it was a yell, and it came from a creature with voice. Was it hurt? Or scared, perhaps about to be attacked by another? Only the Meadow Of Peace refused to give shelter to those who meant harm- out in the Forest, there was no protection. Simi shifted her wings worriedly and stepped forward a couple of steps before turning back to her friends, waiting for their say on the matter. "... W-what was that?"

I got hungry. I'm sorry. D: I just took one bite and then another and before I knew it all 344 cartons of varying flavors were gone and the next day was the worst of my life. XD

Forgive the shortness. It's a quickening scene. o:

===IC===
The snowy white furr of the nekojin took on a strawberry tint as Simi cheeknuzzled Ze. This clearly made his day, as he shit his eyes ahd squeaked happily with excitement, only encouraging him to hug Simi even tighter, though he was always quite gentle, if excited.

"I missed you too, Ze." spoke Simi, and strawberry went to beet as Ze blushed even harder...he squeaked softly and just hugged her, silent in his gratitude and adoration for his first true forested friend.

The phoenix giggled with quiet humor as Ro broke out into his impassioned song. He seemed to notice her just about the moment she spoke, his cheeks flaring up nicely with a deep dark shade of red - likely, he was embarrased for an entirely different reason than Ze was.

"Hey, there, R-"

She was cut off and so was the black nekojin's train of thought as a sudden, loud "Daaahhh!" pierced through the ear and made the black neko blink. He wasn't sure if he heard correctly, but it sounded like a freakin donkey to him. He really shouldn'tve been surprised at the possibility though - in a forest such as this, there were bound to be creatures of all types. Ze continued to hug Simi even as he too looked around a little confused and worried, thoguh her yip and flutter seemed to startle him.

Ro shared similar thought's to Simi's own...that cry definitely sounded off if more than just for it being a donkey's. It sounded in pain...maybe there was some sort of confrontation going on. Ro looked to Ze and ze looked back knowingly.

"... W-what was that?" asked Simi. The two nekojins nodded at each other.

"I 'unno what the heck that was, but somebody could be in danger!" said Ro, clenching his fists.

"Right! There's no time ta waste!" followed Ze, doing the same.

"POWER UP!", they cried in unison, both of their aura's bursting to life and kicking up the snow and leaves around them. Ze's aura wwas a blazing white, while Ro's was an electric ebon shade. They both looked to Simi and nodded. "Come on Simi, let's go save the day!" Ze called out, before he dashed on ahead with Ro following behind, thoguh they would stop if Simi for whatever reason chose not to follow.

Yes, it was terribly clear they were getting -way- too into this.

Dalsh remained quiet for a moment, but only a moment. It took that moment for the full humor of the situation to lay itself onto his shoulders. His shock shifted instantly into surprise then mirth filled glee. He threw his head back, long, scruffy rust red hair flying, and broke into a roar of laughter, which with Dalsh's gravel, sandpaper tone of voice, sounded something like a rock slide with a hint of fingernails on the chalkboard. For a creature who did not breathe, Dalsh's laughter seemed to last for an unusually long time. He finally began to calm, the face splitting grin revealing every bit of his yellowed, scythe like, unnatural dentistry.

Shaking his head, he gazed at the donkey creature, one eye much larger than the other and the grin still spread over his face. When it seemed he had calmed for a moment, he broke into another fit of laughing, his frail arms wrapped around his gut as he continued to laugh. "That was the funniest damn thing I have ever seen! Or heard for that matter!"

Still shaking with a fit of giggles, Dalsh inclined his head to the creature, his quills raised slightly as he took a moment to get a better look at the donkey. "Yes, I suppose I did sneak up on you. However, you should really watch where you are going. Perhaps less singing," he snickered. "However your donkey song there was really quite priceless."

"Ahh, but forgive me, I had the impression you were something else entirely," he purred darkly. "My shock, as you can imagine, was seeing that you were not. But your show made up for that," he paused to quell a fit of chuckles that threatened to send him into another fit of laughing, then shook his head and resumed a more stable air. "Perhaps you can understand more of my mirth and shock if I were to tell you I had been expecting some form of a unicorn, unless unicorns have very...unnatural children." Dalsh's grin, if possible, widened as he raked his black gaze over Devon again, wondering if the thing would get his meaning.
I'm smiling. That alone should scare you.

After his humiliating little bit of terror, Devon spent an uncomfortable moment wondering how the unliving person before him would react. The moment was to be immediately followed by many. Dalsh began to laugh, and gave the donkey a sharp pain in his ears to go along with the one in his tail. 'Oh, dear jebus, I didn't even know that sound could exist!' The ears had shot back so far he wondered how they were still attached. The hooves might have had something to do with it; he'd clapped them to the sides of his head in an attempt to keep out the cackle. Combined with Devon's own version of Dalsh's one-eye-larger-than-the-other expression, albeit more from wincing than from disbelief, this probably gave the Quillirian just one more reason to keep on chucklin'. 'I... guess it's good he's got a sense of humor?' Suuuure it is, Dev.

Finally, it seemed to die down, and so the former human took a breath, and removed the hooves from his ears. Then Dalsh started up again, so back they went. 'Oh, are you kidding me!?' As he brought his hooves down, he wasn't crazy about the comments afterward, either. Devon would have felt embarrassed about the bray, if he hadn't been busy with the fear; Dalsh's reminder gave him a blush to match the twins', and kept his ears locked in 'I'm not enjoying this' mode. 'Okay, calm down. No reason he would assume it would bother you... Just smile and carry on, okay?' And after a breath, the donkey did so. Still, he felt his patience fraying a bit.

At the bit of advice and the compliments to his 'donkey song,' Devon gave a forced chuckle. "Eheh... Yeah, I did get a little careless, I guess. Thought I would have heard you. But I guess I'm glad my surprise audience enjoyed it. Though it was really more of a Python song..." It occurred to him after he'd said it that he was possibly the only person in that world who could get it. But considering that, among other things, the Forest had a black-furred catboy who could join in with what was apparently the theme song to 'A Goofy Movie,' Devon was wrong. Dalsh then gave an explanation for why he'd laughed so hard, which prompted another nervous chuckle; the ex-human could at least see where the guy was coming from. "Ah, I see. Heh, I guess I'd be missing a thing or two..." he said, moving a hoof to his forehead, where a horn did not rest. "And yeah, I'd be as surprised as you if this," the donkey gestured down his body with both hooves, "was a unicorn's pupal stage." Devon felt a bit better, and offered a more genuine smile, ears gradually relaxing.

And then perking up and swiveling, to catch an... odd sound. 'What the--? Did someone from DBZ decide to drop in and flare up an aura?' It had been a while, but the sound matched perfectly. As he quirked a brow and tried to puzzle that out, he also heard the pitterpatter of little pawed feet moving in his direction rather swiftly. Devon then recalled what he'd heard in passing... notable absence of sound up ahead, a flutter of wings and a concerned question from the female voice, and then something determined from each of the kitties. "Huh. I guess we might have company soon," he told his unliving acquaintance.

As the two nekojins cried "POWER UP!" and their auras burst into life, Simi was taken by surprise and gazed with awe. It seemed as if Zero in all his forms continued to surprise her with new skills and talents day by day.

Ze turned, calling out to the phoenix. "Come on Simi, let's go save the day!" He and Ro then dashed into a run, heading for the direction from where the yell had come from.

Save the day.... Simi thought nervously as she spread her wings and pumped herself into the air, the sun glittering against her soft, icey-blue feathers. Uh, Ze? I don't think I'm very experienced in 'saving a day'?! However, she was not about to leave both her friends and the unknown victim on their own, so, taking a deep breath, she flew after Ze and Ro with a remarkable speed of 90 mph.

The forests and trees blurred past her, but she skillfully avoided collision, keeping her hearing focused only toward her destination.

A sudden laugh came toward her..... and at it Simi abruptly slowed down, taken by surprise. It was nothing like she had ever heard- a long, deep chuckle of gravel sliding against a scratchy surface. It sent chills down her spine just to hear it, this long laughter of demonic rockslides, and her feathers ruffled and tremored in response to her shudders.

What..... in the Heaven's name.....?!

She resumed a new, but more cautious speed of 30 mph, not wanting this strange creature to catch her by surprise.

Now, the gravelly voice sounded again, not nearly as heart-stopping as it was in laughter, but still quite spooky and gothic. "....funniest damn thing I have ever seen!"

Simi, though she did not stop this time, blinked and raised an eyebrow at this comment.... had she heard that correctly?

"Or heard for that matter!"

What the..... So was there no treachery in the laughter? Was this simply humored by something else?

Or did he cause that something, himself?

With that thought she resumed her original task.

"Yes..... suppose.... sneak up on you. ..... really watch where you are going. Perhaps less singing, However .... song there was really quite priceless."

"Eheh....... a little careless, I guess."

Wait....

As she flew closer, the voices became clearer.

".... I would have heard you. But I guess I'm glad my surprise audience enjoyed it....."

Wait, what?!

Now the poor phoenix was baffled out of her mind. It seemed as if both parties weren't on aggressive terms....

Are we saving the day or interrupting a friendly conversation???

"Ahh, but forgive me, I had the impression you were something else entirely. My shock, as you can imagine, was seeing that you were not. But your show made up for that... Perhaps you can understand more of my mirth and shock if I were to tell you I had been expecting some form of a unicorn, unless unicorns have very...unnatural children."

Her eyes widened. What did he mean 'expecting some form of unicorn'? Had he known that she was coming?

Simi breathed deeply as another shudder went down her back. Now, instead of flying directly toward the voices, she pulled herself up in the air, where she could see her targets from above and out of their view.

Before she knew it, Simi had found herself flying right over the two conversers, and she had to wheel around in the air to get herself in a better position. Now, for the first time, she could see exactly who was talking and who had fooled her into thinking that she was on a rescue mission.

Below her was what seemed to be an equine's head, with ears lengthier than her own in unicorn form, but attached to the head was a human-shaped, animal-furred body. Simi wasn't too surprised with this- after all, Ze and Ro were also human-animal creatures- but it was quite intriguing.

However, once her eyes took in the other form, Simi's heart almost jumped in her throat. His shape was.........

He looks as if from the........ dead.

"Ah, I see. Heh, I guess I'd be missing a thing or two.... And yeah, I'd be as surprised as you if this-" the donkey-human gestured at himself- "was a unicorn's pupal stage."

Simi tipped her head at the donkey, more than happy to look away from the unliving creature. She was a little surprised to hear this; the reaper-like creature hadn't mistaken this anthromorphic being for a unicorn, had he?

Ze and Ro's running steps now came into hearing range, causing the donkey below to swivel his ears in their direction, alert and puzzled. From the sounds of it, they weren't too far off.

"Huh," he commented. "I guess we might have company soon."

Simi stiffened suddenly, for she realized that the two may see her neko-friends as enemies.... after all, Ze and Ro had also gotten the impression that someone menacing was walking through the forest, and once they came here they would certainly believe the unliving man to be a threat. And how would he respond if they attacked........? She didn't want to know what this being could do......

Especially when my friends are at risk.....

Gathering her courage and taking a deep breath, Simi braced herself and dove down toward the forest's roof, planning to land on a branch a few feet above the unliving man's reach. The thought of her two friends in danger caused her phoenix feathers to do something they only did when her emotions were strong enough- they sprouted a coat of blue, dancing flames that flickered all over the shifter as she flew down. However, this ice-fire was harmless, not like the real thing- in fact, if one happened to touch the flames they'd find that their hand would be virtually unharmed.

Finding a sturdy enough branch to land on, Simi quickly caught it in her talons and looked down upon the donkey and reaper, not thinking that she may have alarmed them with her sudden arrival and her blue flames. "The others arriving mean no harm!" she blurted out, desperate to get the message across that Ze and Ro shouldn't be attacked. However, she quickly realized that she was being a little rash, and she bowed her head in slight apology.

"Um.... I-I mean...." she folded her wings into herself, modestly. "we're fine. Uh, you don't have to see us as enemies...."

You are such a stupid unicorn....

Forgive the wait! I bought some more ice cream for Skygaze and some for Schingiuire and Gaius as well. I wasn't sure what flavor either of you two would like though so I got Schingiuire Resident Mint (vanilla mint ice cream with a hint of zombie thrown in for good measure) and I got Gaius some Oat flavored. o_o ...what? What!?

===IC===

Whereas Simi had been carefully analyzing the situation and making a helpful discovery (that being it was not a hostile encounter), the nekojin twins carried on through the forest oblivious to the world around them. They each had only one goal in mind - to save the beautiful Donkey princess from the great firebreathing somethingoranother. Neither one had decided yet if it should be a dragon or otherwise.

Mayhaps if they had spent any time on recon, they'd have figured out there was neither a princess and that the other didn't actually breathe at all - fire or not. Simi was en route to play some damage control - good thing too, as Ro had quickly dreamt up a rather flamboyant introduction. Though Ze wasn't quite as showy as his impassioned brother, he'd go along just to have some fun. One had to wonder if they were actually expecting some form of danger or doing this purely for the sake of fun?

Bursting through the forestry barrier, they abruptly met with the unusual group, and caught the tail end of Simi's final words.

"...have to see us as enemies...." Ro grinned big and Ze gasped just before the black twin gave his white doppleganger a little shove forward and immidiately hoisted himself upon his shoulders. Ze wrapped his arms around Ro's legs and held them to his body to keep balanced. Ro stuck his paw straight out, pointing direcly at Dalsh, briefly making a sort of "wtf O_o;" face before getting right into the swing of things..

"We are enemies of all things unjust and cruel! None may stand against our righteous fury 'n might! We bring light to the darkness of the weak and innocent..."

Ze took over. "...and we seek out evil, no matter where it went! To protect and serve, those who trust in us..."

"...to lay down our lives, and do what we must!" Ro continued, before each called out their own name in turn.

"Ze!"

"Ro!"

"All who fear darkness, are guided by light. Surrender to our justice, or prepare to fight!" They spoke in unison. It seemed Ze momentarily tried to contain himself before he simply blurted out...

"MEOWTH! THAT'S RIGHT!" Apparently Ro had in some form expected this, as he slapped his own forehead and bonked his snowy twin on the nose, which caused Ze to yelp and stumble backwards, falling on his rump. Ro windmilled his arms as his eyes grew wide in horror before he comically lurched forward and faceplanted into the ground.

"Ohhhhh how embarrasing..." said Ze, just before he fell backwards and laid flat on his back. Ro twitched and merfed muffledly into the ground, tail arced and dangling over his head.

For any creature such as Dalsh, surprises were not taken very well. To have a group of creatures rush in on him set the guarded creature into a frenzy. The phoenix's dive bombing was the first shock of the afternoon. Dalsh ducked as it flew in, landing on a branch behind him and, much to his surprise and terror, burst into flame. He cried out, a sound eerily similar to the scream of a woman or a great jungle cat. Staggering back, hands thrown out at his sides, fingers curled into claws as if preparing for an attack, he was again assaulted by a pair of cat creatures.

Now surrounded, Dalsh twisted around, as if trying to watch everything at the same time. His lips peeled back into a snarl, displaying every one of his yellowed teeth in warning. But in after a moment, his calmed, though did not relax. Their words registered past his shock. They were not going to attack, at least yet. Or so they said.

Letting his arms fall slowly to his sides, fingers still curled into claws, Dalsh's fierce expression darkened. His eyes glowed a deep purple and the long quills among his hair stood straight, giving him a porcupined look. "What is this?" he snarled, his sandpaper voice thick with a tone of anger. Twisting and leveling a glare at the cat creatures, a snarl ripped from his throat, a mix of a roar and fingernails on a chalk board. "Surrender to justice? HA!" he barked a laugh, sweeping his arms back to throw open his cloak and robe. Underneath the tattered cloth shirt he wore a great mouth opened at his abdomen, below his few ribs, like a hole lined with curving teeth. He opened it only about enough for one to fit a doubled fist into, but what came forth from the pit were four long, thin, tentacles. Two tipped with snake headed mouths sporting their own teeth, and two with several spikes, much like his quills but not flexible.

Dalsh was not one for physical combat, he prefered magic, illusion, and raising the dead and spirits to fight for him. But there was no dead here, not under this ground, and it would take time to summon spirits. While Dalsh could not pull anything stronger than a struggling chicken into the Second Mouth (not that he would anyway, eating living things made him sick) but the mouth made for a good scare tactic, and the tentacles would be useful weapons though not much stronger than his own feeble arms.

Strength did not need to be behind razor claws, teeth, and otherworldly weapons such as his tentacles for them to deal a painful wound. "You dare charge here believing you could take me?" A snarl ripped through his throat once more, yellowed teeth bared, lips peeled back far enough to show his black gums. However, the front he put up was hardly more than a lie. He was cornered, trapped in a ring of creatures, one of which was on fire, a great enemy. Already Dalsh formulated an illusion in his mind, working to ready the moment for when he would cast it and bolt through the trees.

(EDITED: fixed the sentence about how his mouth opened and exactly where it opened. )

((Ooh, ice cream. Thanks, Zero! *samples* o.O Ble-- Err. Mmm... It's... so good, but... I think... uhh... Devon'd appreciate it more.
*Dev takes a hesitant lick, looks conflicted, mumbles, "Screw it...", and noms away*
If you like I'm sure he'd share, Skygaze. And how's the Resident Mint, Schingie? Anything like Silent Chill?))

Around the time he spoke of the coming steps, Devon's ears picked up wings approaching quite a bit faster. He tilted his head up for a better look, perhaps to try to identify the bird's species. 'Huh. Makes sense that the bird they were talking to might come by.' As such, Simi's descent through a gap in the green canopy wasn't too big a surprise. The blue fire that wreathed her, on the other hand... "Yengh!" he gasped, eyes widening as he stumbled back a half-step. The donkey at least managed to keep his balance that time. He was a bit jumpy, sure, but as a reaction to a fireball on the heels of a Dalsh Surprise...

Speaking of the Quillirian, his cry was the reason Devon didn't give the bird a hello: the former human was too busy grimacing and shielding his ears. It was sharp, but at least briefer than the laugh. 'Pleeease tell me this is something I get used to...' And then it was time for something completely different: the kitties burst into that region of the Forest. And, even with a ringing in his ears, their show came in loud and clear. Dev's reaction to Ze and Ro could be likened to Dalsh's reaction to Devon: he stared in disbelief a moment, with one ear perked straight up and the other perpendicular to it, gave a few little snorts, and then burst into laughter. He was pleased to hear it sound as it always had, and was not a chorus of 'hee's and 'haw's. Not this time, anyway. The donkey had tried not to laugh, and had even brought a hoof to his mouth to try holding it back, for all the good that did. Aside from being an amusing display on its own, there was just something about a random reference from his world thrown on top like a cherry... "Team... Rock... et..." he got out amid the peals of laughter. He wondered when he would stop.

Then came Dalsh's reaction. And that was that.

Devon couldn't quite see what had happened, with the gray being's back to him; he was at first afraid the undead figure had decided to flash the nekojin pair. While in a sense he had, Dalsh's pants suggested it was for some end other than indecency. Devon realized this as he saw some whip-like... somethings with spikes on, extending from the Quillirian. The mirth drained rather quickly at that. He thought he heard some hissing, too. "What the--? Hey!" he shouted, rushing toward Dalsh, "Back off!" The mysterious disappearance of his timidity wasn't hard to explain: he'd never liked someone picking on little kids. Especially over the stupid misunderstanding he thought he'd pieced together. 'And, if I'm right, am sorta responsible for.' Expression stern and ears perked, the donkey was going to play peacemaker.

"You heard what she just said," Devon gestured with a hoof toward the still smoldering blue bird. "What's got you so worked up, anyway? Unless you're allergic to justice speeches and c--" He stopped. He gave another look to Simi. His ears drooped ever so slightly from their alert "I mean business" setting. Dev had been rather an avid gamer, back when he'd had the hands to play them, and a few facts had embedded themselves in his brain. One had chosen to surface: Undead dislike fire. 'Oh...' Another bobbed up beside it, as he placed the avian's (apparent) species: Undead really dislike Phoenix Down. 'Well, crap. ... Kinda thought they were just red, or gold...'

A bit more sober, and feeling veeeeery stupid for not seeing it before, the donkey coughed. "Uhh, excuse me, Ms. ... Phoenix. Could you... err, move those flames away from him?"

((EDIT @ Schingie below: Heh, thanks for clarifying. It's mainly what I thought, but I edited things to hopefully make this clearer. I just figured that from behind it might just look a little like opening a trench coat, and thought it might make a decent throwaway joke. Sorry that donkey boy's mind -- and totally not mine :p -- went there. Also, woo finger pieces!))

((Just a note, Dalsh is wearing pants as well. Not like he has anything to hide anyway. The mouth opens above his tattered cloth pants. His shirt is more or less in ribbons so the Mouth is easy to see, it opens below his ribs and basically takes up most of his abdominal area, where one's guts would be. his cloth pants hand in tatters as well, about to his knees. God you people have SICK minds *points at accusingly* Resident Mint is good <3 Has severed finger chips!))

The Reaper had to take only one look at Simi before screeching loudly in alarm, the sound making her wince and pull her head back. Apparently, the polite folding of her wings hadn’t given enough reassurance that she was friendly, but what really shocked her was the unliving creature’s sheer fear of her. What about her could be so intimidating?

Off to the side, the donkey gave a startled, "Yengh!"

Adding to the drama, Ze suddenly crashed out of the bushes, followed closely by Ro who jumped on his back and pointed toward the decaying man threateningly.

"We are enemies of all things unjust and cruel! None may stand against our righteous fury 'n might! We bring light to the darkness of the weak and innocent-"

Ze added, "-and we seek out evil, no matter where it went! To protect and serve, those who trust in us-"

Dalsh snarled angrily, causing Simi to sharply turn her gaze fully on him....

"-to lay down our lives, and do what we must!" Ro finished with a courageous tone.

"Ze!"

"Ro!"

"All who fear darkness, are guided by light. Surrender to our justice, or prepare to fight!"

"MEOWTH! THAT'S RIGHT!" Ze finished cheerfully.

Ro, somehow not pleased with this, gave himself a face-palm and used his other paw to bonk Ze on the nose, causing his carrier to yelp and fall back on his tail. Ro then waved his arms desperately as he realized what he had just done, but ended up falling in the opposite direction, landing on his face.

"Ohhhhh how embarrasing..." Ze groaned as he let himself fall all the way, on his back. Ro twitched a little, mumbling something in the snow as his tail remained curled above his head.

The Donkey could only stare, his look that of surprise, before bending over and snickering softly. The snickers grew into a louder laugh, bending over and trying in vain to muffle the laughter with his hoof.
"Team... Rock... et...?!"

The Reaper’s response, however, was less humorous and much more frightening. "What is this?" He snarled, sandpaper vocals echoing within the surrounding trees. His eyes slowly began to glow an ominous purple as quills unknown to Simi suddenly stood straight from his head. The phoenix’s eyes widened, her indigo stare fearful of what the outcome may be.

The unliving man then bared his yellowed fangs, releasing something that sounded like a roar and a scratch of talons against rock, and forcefully ending it with the spit out words, "Surrender to justice? HA!" He swept his arms back, throwing off his clothing with one movement.

What Simi saw next sent chills down her back and made her heart race with terror.

The Reaper’s bare abdomen was at first only a pale, plain spot of dead skin, but as the seconds passed by a hole, lined with small sharp teeth, began to expand from its center, giving way to four more little satanic beings- two baring a snake’s head each, and the two others armed with spikes were painful to look at.

"You dare charge here believing you could take me?!" He half-snarled, half-roared again, and Simi shrank back against her tree fearfully. However, as she followed the reaper’s gaze she suddenly remembered what exactly the man’s first attention was.

Ze, and Ro.

The flames that had begun to die down quickly burst into life again as she flew down in front of them, landing only inches off from the two nekojins. Everything that she had known before escaped her; the fact that it was she and her friends who had intruded, not the reaper, and the fact that this was all just a misunderstanding that could probably be dissolved through calm speech. All that mattered to her now was the Unliving Antihero standing before them, looking very much on the brink of attacking.

She spread her wings half-way a little warningly, her gaze never wavering. Her heart, however, gave way to the fear that pulsed through her body- it raced like a storm.

How could we even manage to.....?!

The donkey, however, quickly came to their rescue as he shouted, “What the--? Hey!” and ran toward the reaper protectively. “You heard what she just said,” –he pointed a hoof toward Simi- "What's got you so worked up, anyway? Unless you're allergic to justice speeches and c--"

He took another, longer look at the phoenix, and his ears fell back slowly with realization of something unknown to her. He then coughed, modestly. "Uhh, excuse me, Ms. ... Phoenix. Could you... err, move those flames away from him?"

Simi blinked at him once, feeling very out of her element with all this tension. “I... can’t control this fire,” she finally spoke, trying to sound calm and sure of herself. “When my anger subsides, they too will.” She picked her words carefully, for like Dalsh she was attempting to give off an intimidating impression to protect her true, lesser capability. “First you must tell him to put his weapons away. We meant no harm, and I promise to hold peace on our part as long as no attack is launched.” She slowly folded her wings back against her, but she continued to eye Dalsh directly and her blue fire remained.

===OOC===
Silent chill! XD! Awesome...

wait...severed finger chips? *looks at own hand, goes pale.* I...I need to see a doctor... ;___;

===IC===
What happened next seemed to come very quickly, and this had clearly not been to the undead-looking one's pleasure, tough the distressed donkeyprincess (they still had yet to strike this particular label from their minds) seemed to take everything in stride, nearly roflmao'ing his way back to the funnyfarm (which, if Ze and Ro had to fathom a guess, was where he might have came from, given his appearance).

"Team... Rock... et...?!"

Ze twitched lightly and blinked up at the sky.

He likes pokemo---

His brief thought didn't really even have time to finish though. Active and alert, the strange undead man went on an immediate defensive. A twist of the head and an open, vicious snarl towards Ze and Ro had both their ears perked. Ro pushed himself up whilest Ze sat up and they both looked toward the creature, blinking with widened blue eyes. He threw open his cloak and revealed that abdomouth thingamagig (also known as some scary ass !@#$%ed up !@#$% in some circles o_o;), burst forth with otherworldly tentacles of snake resemblance and equipped with spine.

"You dare charge here believing you could take me?!" The challenge was followed by yet another snarl, which caused Ze to squeak and rapidly scoot himself backwards, the snowy white nekojin's eyes wide with fright. Ro's too showed a similar emotion, though he was less indicative of his feelings, instead only able to stare forward silently.

And then they were given something new to be awed about...like a meteor from the sky (or so they envisioned it), Simi's firey plumes burst to life and she flew down in front of the two, facing off against the abomination. Ro flinched and pushed himself up, leaning on his arms like a pushup. Ze stumbled up to his feet and stepped even further back, eyes wider than they had ever been. Both of the nekojin gazed upon Simi's magnificence and a single unified thought crossed their minds.

Wow...

It seemed this particular show was to be accompanied by a third star, however. The donkeyprincess (henceforth to be upgraded to donkeyknight in saddled armor :D ) shared center stage with the blazing phoenix, attempting to play some damage control. Midway through that, however, he seemed to come to a realization and turned his gaze to Simi.

"Uhh, excuse me, Ms. ... Phoenix. Could you... err, move those flames away from him?" he asked.

The two nekojin twins were too confused to make heads or tails of any of this, Ro seeming downright stupified while Ze fought with a mixture of sheer fascination and terror, squeezing his balled fists as tight as he could and biting his lip.

Simi, however, though apparently not in control of her fire, seemed very in control of the situation. “I... can’t control this fire. When my anger subsides, they too will. First you must tell him to put his weapons away. We meant no harm, and I promise to hold peace on our part as long as no attack is launched."

The calm, direct way in which Simi spoke...both Ze and Ro's eyes were affixed to the uniphoenix. Zero had had plenty of reason to like her before this, but now she had given them another.

"Way too cool man...", said Ro in a voice a few rungs above a whisper. As fearful as Ze felt, he could not help but to nod in agreement.

(("also known as some scary ass !@#$%ed up !@#$% in some circles o_o;" I blame you for making me inhale my drink because of that. I'm still coughing XDDDDDDD))

Dalsh's terrifying expression instantly shifted to horror once the phoenix dropped before him. Letting out a cry of what, for him, might have been terror, he stumbled back, the mouth nearly closing on the tentacles, which probably would have been an interesting version of biting one's tongue. Black eyes wide and no longer glowing purple, Dalsh threw his arms out to balance himself. While flame would not completely destroy him, it would be a very painful trip back to a place he hated, or rather a place where he was hated. And Dalsh had no plans to return to the Beneath and await summoning by some pinheaded sorcerer that would control him until the moron died.

Devon and the two cat creatures went completely ignored as Dalsh had attention only for the burning creature which, in his opinion, was far too close. His tentacles shot back into the darkness of the mouth, and it clamped shut, appearing for all the world as to have never existed.

"Stay back," Dalsh growled, his skeletal fingers curled to bare the sabre claws on their tips. As much as he did try to hide it, he was obviously terrified and ready to bolt.

Tilting his head forward and seeming to slump almost as if he were giving up, Dalsh opened his mouth, yellowed scythe teeth glittering. his robe and cloak fell back into place as his arms were lowered. He didn't even appear to have sucked in air, but such a sound burst from his unliving lungs, a scream that would have withered the very plants around them. The main defensive weapon of his species, the quillirian's scream.
I'm smiling. That alone should scare you.
What's wrong with me? Everything!!
