Re: Shared Affections...

Post by XxJah LilaxX »

Not too far away, Jah~lilianah'nma folded her own wings against her dusty back, the great feathery appendages quivering ever so slightly with fatigue. She had flown far across the wastelands to see if any danger followed her new friend to her haven.

After her return, he had flown another quick aerial patrol without even stopping to catch her breath. Her muscles all burned in simultaneous protest of their overuse. For a flying creature, it was not only the wings that tired. For someone of her bulk to fly in any kind of stability, tiny muscle adjustments were required all over in order to maintain balance and momentum, particularly at night when heat thermals could not be counted upon to ease the way.

Still, her weariness was not immediately obvious. After some rest, she would be perfectly fit to flee or fight (though she fervently hoped that neither would be necessary). If she would tap into her healing energies, she would not even require that short rest for some time yet, but that was something she refused to do without pressing need. Those energies belonged to any who might have need of them. To use them frivilously would be a betrayal of the most base kind.

Holding her head higher on her neck, the mare forced herself to trot. Soreness was unavoidable, but stiffness certainly was. It would be careless in the extreme to let the muscles stiffen. Her flanks were flecked liberally with foam, and her skin crawled with the desire to wash in the cold river. That would have to wait, she wanted to make sure Roose and Vala had fared well through the night. When she finally did reach them, the perpetually melancholy mare was pleased to see them up, about, and seemingly in good spirits.

Something seemed different, however. The two of them were so easy around each other. So relaxed and happy with eachother's company. A part of her ached for such familiarity, but she knew that she could ill afford it. She had not even completely relaxed so completely in that manner around Meali or Geaven, though she loved Meali like a younger sister. In fact, since the death of Al~Jan in the slave caverns of Vastnir, she had only allowed one creature that close (two if one were to count the earth priestess, but their time together had been brief). Fao... I wonder how she now fares... The white mare shook off her rumination and came to a halt near the two.

"Bright the day, Vala and Roose. I hope that the night passed you in peace?" that was a question. She would certainly want to know if they had been disturbed by anyone or anything whilst she flew her long and short patrols.

Enter Vala - Revived...

Post by Roose Hurro »

Name: Vala

Species: Diamond Dragon

Gender: Female

Evil/Good: Good

Age: 478

Mature Adult at Age: 350

Appearance:
Vala isn't like other Diamond dragons, where the majority of a Diamond Dragon's scales are in actuality diamonds Vala is a very rare case. She has a single large diamond in the center of her forehead and one at the end of her long tail which make her as Alpha and Omega (Beginning and End) Diamond Dragon. Her body is slender, though not long like a chinese dragon and not overly built like a Western Dragon.. Overall she's relatively petite, in length she's only sixteen feet long with a thirty foot wingspan. Her scales are as blue as the ever elusive Blue Moon and her long mane and the ridge of spikes down her back are midnight black. In the center of her forehead rests a large gem, the size and the half of her green eyes and as clear and sparkling as a natural diamond, the gem at the end of her tail is nearly three times that size and is as dark as death itself.

Personality:
Quiet, soft spoken and calm minded she's enjoyed solitude for her life however never knowing if she'd the last Diamond Dragon or not and yearning for a mate is beginning to tax on her. Her coloring has brightened as has her personality...not really flirtatious but...ready to find that special dragon she'll be able to have a family with.

Abilities:
Other then being about to concentrate sunlight through the gems, especially the one on her forehead she has nothing really special...besides the obvious. She breaths ice and lightning, though lightning is still a trial for her to control.

Family:
Vala never knew her parents as the diamonds in a Diamond Dragons' hide are very valuable and cannot be removed without killing the dragon. In her clutch she had three brothers and a sister which she lived the first hundred years of her life with, learning about themselves and what they could do. Now that her siblings have moved off, all finding
mates of their own...she wishes to find her family.

History:
Vala was raised by her siblings, all her own age...so it was a bit interesting watching five tiny dragonlets trying to figure out what the thin little sticks with skin were on their backs
and in wonder discovering they could fly with them.

She was the smallest of the five but was a very fast learner when it came to harnessing her control over her gems and breath attacks. However, as soon as word got around that the
adult dragons that were killed had made a clutch of eggs and those same eggs had hatched into dragonlets they knew, by instinct, they didn't want to meet these hunters. For decades
they were on the run until a hundred years later they split up to create their own lives, to mate and carry on the Diamond Dragon bloodlines, to rebuild their wondrous race.

Anything else we need to know about you:

A few lines IC (In Character) of your character entering the Forest:

Vala panted deeply as she stumbled across the landscape. The sun had long since set but...it hurt so much. Her side had a large bleeding gash that was lightly frosting over from the chilling temperatures. The silver liquid trickled to the ground, leaving an obvious trail for 'Diamond Hunters', especially the hounds they used. Looking back at herself with he long neck she saw the end of the sword that was still embedded in her side and the arrow in her tail.

Looking up at the moon she was thankful it was full and casting a beautiful silver light over the area before she cast her eyes down again. "300 years...and they're still after me...why can't they get it through their heads that they're not gonna get them..." she growled reaching up to touch the large gem on her forehead but then chuckled in exhaustion.
"Humans...stupid greed creatures..."
'Time is both an ally as well as an enemy. Use it wisely.'
Vala was totally exhauted, her legs trembling as she saw the blerry shape of greens and browns ahead, the smell of fresh foliage. "Refuge at last..." she said a she trudged slowly towards what she hoped was a place of sanctuary.
Flames blazed in the air dancing in flips and arial dance. Blazy had resently decided the air was a welcomed place. Nothing stopped her and her mind could drift without trouble. Lime eyes opened from a flip and turned away. They blinked, bright light reflecting off the ground.

Frowning a bit, the phoegriff drove down. Wings folded back as the ground rushed up for its kiss. Fiery wings spread wide, breaking the air as red-orange talons touched down. Gold hind legs touched after sending the griffiness into a little trot.
Raptorian eyes looked up from the ground to see there was in fact a creature. They wided in 'ah' at the beast and <Whoa.> slipped her mind.
Vala gasped when she heard the sound of crackling flames. Though she was in pain she was still on the defensive and her tail raised up over hs head, fangs bared as she waited. When the creature came to an elegant landing in front of her she blinked before dropping her tail heavily, the diamond cracking loudly into the ground as she tried to relax, the trembling creeping back into her joints. "Umm...greetings..." she whispered softly, her eyes looking to the creature. "Can you...can you tell me about the forest up ahead...?"
Blazy snapped out of her little daze at the dragon. Taking a breath her posture straightened. Her shouldered touched the ten foot mark with no problem as her wings folded neatly on them. A fireball ending tail swayed between to long hip feathers. <The forest?> she repeated with a nod, <It is called Deep Forest.>

The phoegriff gave a look with a tilt of her head, <What is it you want to know?> Her lime eyes reflected her question. Her red-orange talons pawed a little at the ground.
Vala nodded silently. *Deep Forest, huh?* she thought before he eyes focused on the curious creature and sighed. "Well, I am searching for a place to rest...to heal and live," she said softly. "Are...are strangers welcome here and if so, where would I be able to find healing herbs for my wounds?"
"There will be no need of that, wing sister," came a voice from above. Jah~lila, the last of the Great Healers of the Divine Realms, backwinged landed gracefully by the two. Her completely black eyes were fixed upon Vala as she examined her with her healers senses. Not that she was ignoring Blazy on purpose, but when a healer was presented with someone in need of aid, she tended to be focused almost exclusively on mending the ills and making whatever was wrong right. It was a hunger that had made more than one healer sacrifice his or her life to heal someone seemingly beyond healing.

"Will you allow me to heal your wounds, dragon? I know that they pain you terribly." That last was a statement. She could See the pain as plainly as she could see the trees around them. She honestly hoped that the dragon would not decline, because she would likely as not be unable to restrain herself from healing the injured creature anyway. She would be subtle about it so as not to anger her, but she would do it all the same.

Her eyes, as she examined the dragon with both othersenses and physical eyes, rested wryly on the diamond adorning the dragon's brow. The reason for this was fairly clear. On Jah~lila's own radiant brow, a black opal shone with an inner light. The hateful and bejeweled golden slave collar about her neck winked malevolently in the sunlight, contrasting sharply with her own mild kindness.
Vala tensed at the new voice and immediately regretted it as the wounds stretched and she growled softly, her eyes clenched shut for a long moment. After the pain had fled her mind she opened her dull jeweled eyes to look towards Jah~lila still feeling her blood draining from her body. "I would be in great debt to you if you could aid me for they do pain me terribly," she whispered, her voice heavy with the pain she tried to hold back from her voice.
Jah~lila dove into her task without further ado, even before the dragon finished formulating her response. She merely Felt her consent and went to work. The first thing she did was to block the pain from the sorely injured creature. This done, she was free to grasp the swordblade in her strong teeth and carefully remove it without sending her patient mad with agony. Her breath steamed from the incredible cold of the dragon's lifeblood. The sword chilled her teeth like ice for the moment they were in contact, but she showed no discomfort, very careful not to touch her togue to the cold steel as the tang of blood and steel mixed in her delicate nostrils.

Once the sword was safely out of the dragon's hide, she remarked with a smile, "Speak nothing of debt to a healer, friend dragon. You owe me nothing." Even as she spoke, muscle knit and skin and scars reformed. All trace of possible infection was ruthlessly purged as the slender white mare moved around her patient to the tail, where an arrow stuck out like the prow of a sinking ship. Just as neatly, she plucked this one away, healing as she went. "Human weapons?" she asked, her tone indicating she would be unsurprised if her surmise was correct. Every word she said, however, was a bit absentminded as she concentrated on getting the female dragon into better health. Blazy was still basically ignored. For a creature who was normally almost painfully polite, it was a bit out of character, but Healing came first, always. There seemed to be a quiet glow about the mare, as was usual when she was Healing.
Returning across the wasteland... from a short trip to his SlideShip, GreenDay... Roose couldn't ignore the sight and patterns of a flamegryph and a winged unihorn, one following shortly after the other, out of the moonlit night sky. Even given his short time in Deep Forest, Roose had learned much about the place... and why it had attracted his attention, the first time he saw it. This sight flown down, from sky to ground, gave excellent point to his reasons... Deep Forest had to be the most unusual Life Nexus he'd ever visited, anywhere...

... so, he increased his running pace, briefly cracking eighty, before he had to slow, his senses focused... aware of a third pattern to attract his sight... a dragon... by, yes... her pattern, wounded. Silently, Roose rushed close, slipped under the cover of tree shadows, out of the moonlight, and observed the unihorn at her healing work... his left hand dropped reflexively to the beltpouch holding his tissue accelerator, and his right hand leaned his staff against a nearby tree... as he stepped around its concealing girth, into clear sight, his seelers busy twitching... while his H'rik Eye remained subdued in its illumination.

His arms crossed his chest, held the open front of his Nute shut against the night air, as he leaned against the tree, silently watching, not wanting to interrupt....

Yes, he looked fascinated by the unihorn's healing patterns... the way her Flux lines intertwined and phased with those of the dragoness... the way her Arc frequencies slid methodically up and down the scale... all the subtle shades of Color and Tone, Spin and Polarity, Angle and Slip, Intesity and Vibration... all signs of great skill in the Healer's Arts....

The tuft on his tail's end kept flicking, sign of his intent focus....
Blazy slowly moved away, the unipeg seemed to have things under control. Lime eyes moved back toward the forest. A wall of fire went up around her mind as she whispered to both the dragon and winged horse with horn, <Take care.>

Black tipped wings flamed as they beat the phoegriff into the air. There was no reason for her to stay, so into the air she went and back to the forest. Flame wrapped around her mind in thought, a frown reflecting in eagle eyes.
Vala shivered as she felt the pain suddenly cease and she closed her eyes, lying on the ground, her breathing evening out. She could feel where Jah~lila was pulling at the object which had caused her pain and just did not feel them. Physically she felt completely exhausted but was thankful Jah~lila had ound her. Upon hearing Blazy readying to leave she opened her eyes and watched the creature then smiled...as gently as a dragon could. "Thank you for your help Blazy," she said before she left before looking to Jah~lila. "And thank you, Jah~lila, and though you say I do not owe you, if ever you need help, I will gladly aid you."
Jah~lila, her task now completed, raised her head on her long graceful neck to look after Blazy. ~Wind to thy wings.~ she Mindsent before she could get out of range. That range was quite good, for she was at least Lord Geaven's equal in mindmagic. She felt a twinge of regret that she could not have had a few words with the gryphon, for she had heard of her before, but turned her attention back to the dragon as she began to speak.

The mare nodded gravely in acceptance, for denying the dragon such a pledge would be something of an insult. Despite whether or not she felt there was any debt, her patients often did, that was a fact she accepted. "I accept your offer with thanks, friend. Though I pray the day I must call upon you shall never come, in this forest I fear it may become necessary." Tossing silver forelock from her sad black eyes, she gracefully bent over an extended forehoof, wings mantled, in the formal bow/nod of her people. "My name is Jah~lilianah'nma, though you may shorten it as you wish. Most call me Jah~lila."
Roose felt a bit surprised, when his presence went unnoticed... yes, with his arms crossed, holding his Nute shut, his cream colored underside was concealed... his visible fur, scales and clothing, mostly dark... but, they should at least have noted the light glow of his H'rik Eye. Maybe they thought it was just a hovering firefly...? Roose felt unsure... he had hoped these three female creatures, at least one of them, would have looked his way. He wasn't trying to hide, and... and... yes, he didn't want to startle them, under the circumstances....

But then, the flamegryph slowly separated herself farther from the others... and returned, in a blaze of fire, to the moonlit night sky. Roose tilted his head up, and watched her disappear over the trees, then turned his attention back to the dragon and unihorn... his thoughts, contemplative, as he listened to their words... and heard the unihorns name. Jah~lila... hmmm.

With hands now rubbing across his muzzle, Roose considered his next Descision... he sighed deeply, lit his Eye bright, and stepped softly into the full moon's light, as he approached the two remaining creatures... careful to show his empty hands, and his smile...

... "And you may both call me Roose..." He glanced at the unihorn... "Jah...?" And he bowed to her in respect, his tail tuft held high... then turned to the dragon with another bow, a question in his emerald green eyes, this time...

... "If you wish to shorten it further, you may call me Roo...." He only hoped his grin would appear charming, given the sharp whiteness of his teeth....
Vala watched the other quietly as she finished and nodded in thanks before she frowned slightly. "Is there something amiss in the forest?" she asked softly before nodding her own head. "My elders have bestowed the name of Vala upon me, Jah~lila." When the other newcomer appeared she blinked. That light had not been what she'd thought, she'd felt a life behind it but did not know the life behind it. "Greetings to you as well, Roose," she said softly as she rose stretching her slender legs and tail, feeling no pain whatesoever and smiled to Jah~lila in another silent thanks.
Jah~lila acknowledged Roose with a nod and made room for him to stand closer, but seemed utterly unsurprised. She had sensed him for some time, but as she had sensed no ill intent, she had elected to let him hide or reveal himself as he saw fit. "Well come and be welcome Vala, and you as well Roose." She settled her long wings more comfortably on her back, feeling the quiet satisfaction of a job well done. Healing always made her feel better on some level, even when she was utterly exhausted.
Roose moved closer, gave both Jah and... Vala?... a tail tuft brush across the wrist of a wing... since, in their folded state, they blocked each of the females' shoulders. With a proper greeting now given, he turned his attention to the sword and arrow... raised both hands, flared his H'rik Eye... caught sword in one, arrow in the other, as they arced up off the ground... and then, he examined his 'catch'.

A brief moment's study... seelers fully 'opened'... his flesh in contact... gave Roose quite a bit of information about both weapons. Traces of human cellular molecules, poorly tempered alloy of low grade steel (at least, as a 'Twill saw it), birch shafted, feather fletched... to Roose's senses, under his trained 'Touch', the structure of these weapons, down to their molecular components, willingly coughed up their knowledge....

He looked to Jah, and to Vala...

... "I would say there is something more amiss where you came from than here, Vala." He held both sword and arrow with both hands, together... his voice sounded grave... "Is there a chance the owners of these... might have followed you?"

Before the question could be answered, Roose stepped back a ways, turned, and held the guilty weapons up into the moonlight... his Eye flared, like a tiny nova in the middle of his forehead...

... and so, both sword and arrow flared white-hot, along with his Eye's light-flare, the heat of their destruction shielded, contained... the molecules of matter, made plasma, allowed to dissipate harmlessly into the air....

Roose lowered his empty hands, then returned to the dragon and the unihorn... he bowed to each of them, first Jah, then Vala... and, when he met eyes with her, his eyes... his whole expression... projected his thoughtful concern... his worry for her...

... "If you need someone to watch over you for the night, I'm here...."
Vala watched Roose quietly and when he asked if the human could follow only shook her head. "Do not fear. When I was attacked I flew until I could not anymore...nearly four days and have traveled her by paw," she said softly. She was incredibly hungry and tired, having not eatten in a weeks time. When Rose picked up the sword and arrow she flinched and watched the tw object disappear. Ndding she yawned hugrly and looked to the sky. "A rest would be perfect before I fetch something to eat..." she sighed her bright eyes bleary from her weariness.
Jah~lila nodded, tendering Roose an appraising gaze with her melancholy black eyes, and said with a certain quit grimness, "Any humans who managed to make it this far would be among the living long enough only to regret reaching the forest, I assure you. Few within these lands look upon humans kindly, and those of us who run our unofficial patrol of the edge take the responsibility quite seriously."

The mare looked distant for a moment before recalling herself back to the present. "I can aid you little in obtaining food save for telling you where the game is abundant, but I too will gaurd your sleep for I know you need for the rest. Such an arduous journey across the wastes in poor condition would have seen a lesser creature long since collapsed, Vala, and such a thorough healing oft exhausts the recipient greatly I know."

As per usual, her very voice carried peace, made, if anything, stronger by the Healing she had just performed. Some of the thoughts in her mind, however, were anything but peaceful. Bloodletting of any kind offended every instinct most unicorns had-- the bare suggestion of helping a friendly cat to find food had induced severe nausea in Lord Geaven just days past-- but Jah~lila had been trained as warrior as well as healer, and was resigned to the need to kill when necessary. The humans who had maimed Vala were as mad dogs. One did not negotiate with a mad dog, neither did one torture it, for torturing a mad dog taught it nothing. No, you simply killed the beast before it had a chance to hurt the ones you loved.

Cold, but a lesson that had been brought home nearly every day of her life since childhood. Even as she thought this, a tiny trickle of blood stained her neck (thankfully hidden by her mane) where the slave collar still about her neck had rubbed it raw. Hurriedly, she healed it, hoping that tired as Vala was and distracted and worried as Roose, neither would have scented it.
Roose felt some of his concern ease, as Vala's words touched his ears and understanding... and a brief smile touched his expression, as he considered her use of the word 'fear'. He had no fear of humans, any more than he had fear of dragons or unihorns... though demons made him shudder... just the thought that someone would try to kill her puzzled him. If Vala had given reason for the attack... if her injury had been in retribution for some violent act on her part... Roose couldn't see how that would be true... her pattern gave no indication of evil, no deceit within her Spirit. There had to be another reason....

But... such speculations fled his mind at Vala's mention of rest and food... and at Jah's words, at her mention of killing humans who reached the forest... his eyes turned sharply towards her, but... for the moment... he held his tongue, instead focusing on Jah more intently, but more discreetly, as she continued to speak... after a moment of distance lit her eyes...

... and, though her voice held a peaceful tone, her patterns told a different story, through the still wide open state of his seelers. If he read her right... the subtle jump in her heartrate, the arc frequencies roiling under her skin, her slight muscular tension... peace was not in her mind. Roose didn't need to be told, to guess her thoughts dwelt on what she would do to any human who dared come to Deep Forest....

This whole situation was disturbing... Vala had been healed, but she could be wounded again... and Jah... Jah had...

... Roose's attention snapped back to Jah, from its momentarily distracted focus, between the two females... he startled a bit, as he saw her patterns shift... saw her healing energies focused on herself, at a point hidden under her mane, right where the jeweled gold collar touched her skin....

No... Roose didn't need to scent her blood, to know something was not right...

... "Jah, not all humans are bad. They are a mixed up, contrary and confusing species, very disturbed... troubled... in their Spirits, but they have their own unique strengths... their own value and place, as all living things do."

He turned a glance briefly towards Vala, and waved his tail in a gesture of assurance... then he turned back to Jah, emerald eyes meeting jet black... and, without hesitation, he stepped up very close to Jah... laid both clawed hands on the collar circling her neck, his expression just as intently questioning as the question he voiced...

... "Does this trouble you...?"

Roose stood so close, with little more than a turn of his head, he could have licked the end of her nose....
Jah~lila looked surprised at Roose's first quiet comment. "I know this to be true, just as it is true of nearly every other species. It matters not if they are human, only that they bear ill intent for this forest." She had her share of human and humanoid friends, race meant nothing to her. She discriminated against notion for that reason except.... Except for Algol, the snake people, the willing servants of her former master. Her hatred for all things sepentine was a flaw, she knew, but it was not one she would likely be able to correct any time soon.

The mare shied away from Roose as he surprised her once again by putting his hands on her collar. Drat. It seemed he had noticed after all. Her reply however was as steady and calm as ever it had been. "Not so greatly that I cannot bear it."
Roose kept his hands on the collar... as Jah shied away, he moved with her, carefull of her horn. He also stayed focused on the most pressing subject, in his reply... and yet, glad to hear human ill intent... any ill intent towards the forest... as her reason for voicing such strong responsive feelings...

... and his voice, with his muzzle stretched close to her ear, turned quiet... questing in tone... and a bit puzzled...

... "Why bear it, when it can be easily removed...?"

His fingers lightly stroked the collar, then touched her throat... the blue-white glow of his Eye lit Jah's face, neck and body in a wash of light, mixing with the moon's silver glow, on her furred hide and feathered wings... his breath steady, his tail gently lashing side to side, his fur and scales wafting the scent of vanilla and cinnamon into her nostrils, along with a musky hint... like fresh turned earth and summer rain, mixed with sunshine and well-oiled leather....
Vala watched the two quietly and only snorted when she heard their words on human. "In all my yaars I have never met a kind hearted human. Males wish the thrill of fighting a dragon while females wish the jewels that adorn my body," she sighed lifting her tail and tossing her mane from the diamond on her forehead. The scent of blood assaulted her tired mind but only shook it off not distinguishing it from her own essence that colored the ground beneath her. Loking up at Jah she blinked and stretched her neck ouut to peer at the collar. When she heard her response to Roose's question Vala only nodded and pulled back to respect her wishes. With a deep breath filling her lung she curled up n the ground, her long tail wrapped around her body and wings covering her back.
At Roose's insistence, and the sense that he intended to do something about the collar, Jah~lila reared up on her hind legs, dancing and pivoting expertly to face him and explained to Vala and Roose in her quiet voice, "Because it is not so easily parted from me. Those who try are generally blasted, and I do not enjoy picking up my aquaintinces in palm-sized pieces." The last who had attempted it was still fresh in her mind. She had managed to save Fao, but it had been a very near thing. It was nothing she wanted to repeat. She folded her flared wings and sighed inwardly.

If the collar had not chosen that moment to irritate her, the conversation would not have taken this uncomfortable turn. She merely thanked Alma that the collar was, for now, behaving itself. Whenever her former master wished to remind her of his hatred and assure her he had not forgotten his vow to hunt her down, it constricted painfully as it became wickedly hot and glowed an angry red. The pain it produced was... considerable. Not so great as when she had been in closer physical proximity to Argoth.
Reply | Edit Refusal, but an Offer Still Made...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vala's words hadn't failed to reach Roose's ears, either, before he'd turned to Jah... answering his curiousity over the reason for her injury... yes, treasure hunters, though she had not named them such... willing to kill for imagined wealth and beauty, when the lives they took held far more value than any gemstone they could ever find, in a lifetime of searching... held more awe than the shiniest of stones.

That two such valuable, beautiful females should bear such burdens... angered Roose, deep inside... gave him even further determination, when Jah reared up, delivered her warning words, and then outwardly calmed down. His hands had slipped from collar and throat, but he had not backed away from her actions...

... and he hadn't failed to note the way her patterns had twisted around the collar... his fully open seelers fully aware of the deep binding patterns imbued within this object of gold and gemstone... patterns consistant with what most other beings in the Universe considered 'Magic'....

Yes... like the blade and arrow, Roose had gained much information from his touch... as well as his 'sight' of this 'enchanted' artifact. Though 'Twill ethics looked upon such magic... such bonding of living Spirit to inanimate Substance... as an act of profound disrespect against Nature's Gifts, they nevertheless recognized it when they saw it, and always offered to break such bonds... to cut the threads that held such Spells together.

But... without consent, it could not be forced... would never be forced, for such an act would be a greater Disrespect....

Still, Roose had to make the Offer... one more time.

He stepped one foot back, bowed to Jah, tail tuft held overhead, then turned his serious look back into her eyes...

... "Jah, your concern is appreciated... and it is up to your own will, your own wish... but to not offer help would violate the nature of my kind. So, I have to ask again... do you wish it gone?... if you are willing to give up your ties to it... separate the threads of your Spirit from the Bonds within the collar... it can be removed. I cannot remove it if you can't let it go...." At this point, Roose grinned...

... "And, truthfully... I'm far tougher than I look."

Roose stepped close, hugged Jah briefly and gently around her neck... then brushed his tail tuft under her chin...

... "I have resources, and my own special talents... if it will give you some assurance, I can take very strong precautions... to avoid being reduced to bite-sized chunks."

Roose looked over at Vala, as she lay curled to rest... heading for sleep... "But, this is an issue for tomorrow... it's your Decision to make. Right now, we have other business to care for...."

Roose smiled, reached in to one of his belt pouches... and removed a blue-green crystal, deep and dark as the ocean. As he held it up to Jah's sight, his H'rik Eye flared softly... and the depths of the crystal... moved... lightened... shimmered in the moonlight... made vision a bit unsure, as if something existed within the depths that couldn't possibly be there... something way too huge... yet, all it took was a blink, and all that could be seen was a small, ocean colored, softly shining crystal... and the vague, distant sound of a heartbeat, like the rythym of rolling surf....

"May I add one more jewel to your collar...?"
Jah~lila shook her head in an equine display of frustration. It was not Roose's fault that he did not understand about the burden she carried. If he had known where those stones had come from, he would probably react with nausea. The stone he offered her, whatever it's purpose, would probably tainted by the sheer strength of evil and blood and magic that had gone into the collar's creation.

"No, Roose, for there are explanations that must take place on either side of this for me to accept what you offer. I do not mind speaking of it, but those are, as you said, discussions for another day. For now, watch over friend Vala. I must complete my patrol and fly out over the wastes to see if there is pursuit from her attackers."
No... Roose did not know where the stones had come from... but, there were many things about the collar he did understand... like Jah's ties to those stones, her patterns'... relationship, to each one. No, again... not where they came from, but that the Spirits within them were bound to her own Spirit... that her Spirit did not want to let them go. Indeed, had he known what they were, in truth, he would have reacted with grief....

But he didn't know... yet.

Jah spoke, and Roose listened... and he thought as well, about the LifeForces his seelers perceived within the stones... the echos of Spirits trapped. Yes, a great act of Disrespect... against Nature's Gifts. Yes, an evil that needed to be Unbound....

But, only if Jah wished it....

Roose slipped the crystal back into its pouch, and bowed deeply to Jah...

... "You are right, Jah... tomorrow it is, then...." Roose hugged her again... and on impulse, licked the glowing black opal stone on her own forehead, as he would have one of his people... one of his own family... a 'lick to the Eye, to say goodbye... till we meet again.'

Roose smiled gently... "Be carefull..."
"Burden, Vala?" the unicorn managed a rare smile for the dragoness, "A friend is no burden. Asides, methinks we have more in common than folk would first credit upon seeing us both." With those words, she lightly touched the diamond on Vala's brow with one wingtip, bending her other wing a way that showed they were far more flexible than any bird's to touch the black opal of her own brow.

"I thank you Roose, and we shall talk more upon this if it is still your wish. Goodbye to you both, I fully expect to see you again, large though this forest may be. Look for me in the Meadow of Peace, for I am often there. Farewell!" with that, she bowed gracefully over one extened forehoof, wings half spread like an elven queen gathering her voluminous skirts. Then, with a nod for both of them, she shot skyward with speed that usually surprised people coming from such a calm and stolid mare.
Roose held Jah's scent in his nostrils, her warmth in his fur... her taste on his tongue, from licking her black opal. As Vala expressed her wish to be no burden... and as Jah replied... Roose kept silent, simply nodded his agreement with Jah... friends were never a burden!... and flared his Eye briefly, in his own display of commonality... his outer silence filled with his own inner thoughts.

And... Jah's words, directed at him... made Roose feel warm inside. Yes, indeed, he still wished to talk! A hoard of demons would not be able to shut his mouth, when the time came....

When Jah gave her 'Farewell!'... Roose backed away, to give her space... listened to Vala's own farewell words... and, as the wind of Jah's leaving swirled around him... as her powerfull wings shot her up into the night's air, into the moonlight... Vala spoke again... but he closed his eyes and bowed, then raised his muzzle skyward, and keened farewell to Jah, in his native tongue... a sound like whale-song and bird-call, mixed together. Yes... not so much a word... more an emotion made sound. Like a snatch of music filled his voice, both happy and sad, all at once....

Roose cupped his hands to his belly, took a deep breath, exhaled, then turned back to Vala... walked over, and sat down near her... close enough to talk, far enough away not to disturb her desired sleep... yes, within a tail-length, so he could comfort her with a tail tuft brush, if needed. He'd left his staff behind the tree, so his hands were empty... folded in his lap... and his eyes focused on Vala, on her previous words to him...

... "No, protecting Life is always the most important task..." Roose smiled...

... "And a burden is something unwanted... something forced upon a person, and unavoidable. Had I not chosen to help, I would not be here... I would have walked away." Roose swept his tail around, and stroked Vala under her chin with his tuft... "Never feel that your Life situation is a burden on others who care, even if those others are strangers... friendships made in adversity are the strongest, I've found. I fought a demon hoard, not very long ago... to save the mate of an alien friend I'd only known for a few days. I will never forget that friendship, nor will I forget how it felt to see Kao and Starbyrst together again."

Roose sighed at the memory, reached into a beltpouch and removed a silver stone... strangely, looking like a drop of Vala's blood, encased in a drop of clear crystal. He held it out towards her...

... "If you hold this under your tongue, it will help you sleep deeply... keep the bad dreams away, for a while...."

Yes... remembering Kao and Starbyrst, the intensity of their love... made Roose feel very alone, at this moment. He missed Chorri very much, missed her warmth and touch and voice... her energy and Spirit... but he also knew, when his time away ended... it would make their own reunion just as joyous, if not more so....
Vala watched Roose quietly, her eyes heavy but unblinking as he attention was fully on the male before her. "I very much agree, though I only knew my siblings a short time and we were never close like siblings should...however we hold a friendship and one day I do hope to see...just one before I pass into the next realm," she sighed softly as she lay her head on her forelegs. When roose offered her the jewel she blinked a moment, the prospect of no nightmares...for once, was very enticing. Her long serpent's tongue slithered forth and gently took the tjewel, situating it in her mouth as Roose had instructed. "I thank you," she said softly as she felt the affect almost immediately.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At first, when Vala spoke of siblings, Roose felt a bit puzzled... he'd spoken only of a friendship, made in adversity... then, she mentioned how she held a friendship with her siblings, and Roose felt the connection... though her further talk of death surprised him. Not that death wouldn't one day come, as it did to all mortal beings, just that she would speak of it so soon after nearly meeting it... but, unlike 'Twill, many beings did dwell on Death, when it came so close, rather than dwelling on Life... as a 'Twill would do, under the same circumstances.

And then, she took the stone with her tongue... thanked him... and almost immediately started nodding off... surprising Roose yet again, given it normally took a few minutes for the stone to work... she must indeed have been exhausted, for it to take hold so fast....

But, Roose never showed his surprise, except maybe in his eyes... so many times in his travels, he'd encountered creatures so unlike his own people, in their ways of thinking. Yes, he'd learned to hide his shock... not wishing to offend or frighten... though hiding such responses felt unnatural to him, dishonest still, and he'd never be able to keep himself from experiencing such responsive feelings, inside. He would, however, remain true to his nature in one thing, even after having learned the value of controlling his physical reactions... to such other-species attitudes...

... "Please..." He spoke softly, stroked his tail tuft across the top of her head, between her ear-fins... yes, he slowly moved from sitting, to four-legs, to stretched out on his belly... his own head briefly resting on his forelimbs, close to and level with her face, before he reached out and touched each side of her muzzle with his clawed hands... "No one should have to speak of Death and Family, together, in such a way... despite what has happened, you are alive and well, and I am here to watch over you for this night." Vala's eyes were very heavy, and Roose's words were very earnest... very gentle... as two pairs of green eyes met, through the distance of worlds and species... "I will let nothing happen to you, as you sleep... dream of your siblings... and the joys of Life...."
Vala lay on the ground, eyes closed as she felt sleep rapidly race towards her. Upon hearing Roose's voice and feeling his hand on her muzzle she looked up blearily, blinking slowly. "I...will try...though with my speceies being rare...it is...hard to think...to think otherwise," she whispered. Smiling softly he let out an acknowledging rumble. "I thank you...for this protection of me...this night," she whispered. "If there is...if there is anything you wish aid on...in the future...do not hesitate...to ask..." Her voice slowly drifted off as sleep finally took hold, her large head settling on the ground with a final, comforting sigh.
As Vala finally drifted off to sleep, Roose considered her final words. And... his heart felt deeply warmed. He remained stretched out for a few minutes longer, lightly stroking her muzzle... thinking also, how such a beautiful creature could be so rare... how greed, amongst other vices... other sins... could destroy so much of value. Roose had seen a number of worlds, devastated by such evils, some having lied in death for many millennia... stripped of all life. He remembered his pada uncle Timmor advising him to visit these worlds first, before exploring for Life... so he could see, with his own eyes, what he had only read about, before. His pada uncle had been wise... and Roose had leared much, in a very short time....

But, that study had only lasted for his first week out. Actually seeing... touching... this ancient WorldDeath, had given Roose even more reason to seek out Life in the Universe... to use his year away from Family... from Chorri... to its greatest advantage. Strength of Purpose had grown even more real... more important... in his mind's eye, afterwards.

Yes, Timmor had been very wise in his advice....

Roose felt the wetness in his eyes... felt the dampness on his cheeks, as those past memories flowed through his mind... and he thought... maybe... he might stay on this world a bit longer than planned, if he could just help the two females he'd met this night... Jah, to remove her collar... Vala, to see her happy... to maybe see her species become less rare....

Yes, his own loneliness hit hard... but he had Chorri to return to... his Family... an entire world of his people to return to... but, Vala was alone... her people, rare. Roose, without having to ask, knew she also suffered from loneliness... knew she, like him, had no offspring in her life... to give her joy. And yet, unlike him, she had no future mate waiting for her, to give her children...

... no... no one warm to snuggle with, on cold nights....

Roose felt a great sadness tug at his Spirit. No... she didn't deserve to spend the rest of her life, alone....

He reached up, touched the diamond on her forehead... then he stood on all fours, gave her forehead a lick... touched his Eye to her diamond, as his eyes sqeezed shut on his quiet tears. And then, he stood up... quickly removed his Nute, and spread it over her shoulders, covering her own wings, in part. With one hand up, to shade his Eye's flare, he focused on his staff... propped behind the tree. It slid, fell over... flipped end over end along the ground, away from the tree... and, as soon as it was clear of any obstruction... with a twitch of Roose's focused mind... it arced through the air, into his other hand's outstretched grasp.

Under the moonlight, stars winking in the darkness beyond, a cool breeze picked up... gusted, swirled, then settled and faded away... for a few moments, ruffling Roose's mane, and touching a hint of its coolness to the skin under his exposed fur. He inhaled deeply, exhaled slowly... wiped the wetness from his face... and returned to Vala's side....

Yes... he carefully laid his staff on the ground nearby, then settled himself close... very close... to her. She looked so peacefull, asleep. He smiled, and leaned against her, knowing the stone would keep her rest undisturbed, till morning... if she didn't have a mate to share warmth with this night, he would share his own with her...

... as he would, with Family in need...

... as he would, through the night....
Vala could feel the cold air of the night along with the soothing rays of the moon. Her mind was calm, for the moment, though she knew that she would more then likely spend many nights on her own. A feeling of warmth surrounded her, pressed against her. Shifting slightly he muzzled against the warmth as her wings and long tail wrapped around it, a soft rumbling purr vibrating gently in her chest, pure comfort pulsing through her body.
Snuggle Till Morning...

Post by Roose Hurro »

Roose also felt comforted... though Chorri was far away, for the first time since leaving home, he had a warm female body to snuggle with this night. Despite the differences between their species... and the lack of romance involved... Roose experienced a deep happiness, when Vala nuzzled against him... yes, when she wrapped her tail and wings around him. In his happiness, Roose joined Vala in a mutual bout of purring. And while she slept, he kept watch, his bright emerald eyes alert...

... but, Roose knew this alertness would only hold for a few hours, at best, before his own eyes grew heavy. And so, he carefully reached into the same beltpouch out of which he'd removed the silver stone... only this time, he removed a stone as green as his eyes, and slipped it under his own tongue. Yes... one stone for sleep, another to remain awake.

And so, those hours passed... as the moon moved through the sky, turning shadows....

Roose... his warm body, snuggled against Vala's....

Vala... her body, warmed by contact between furred skin and scaled hide....

Both... snuggled together like lovers, almost, though they were only just begining a friendship.

Vala slept, partly covered by Roose's Nute... Roose remained awake, shirtless... his wings exposed, but folded tight against his back. Had he not felt need of his beltpouches, and his pocket contents... and some protection from the night's slight chill... he might also have removed his pants, and used them as a blanket to cover her, as well. Yes, Roose was that concerned for her wellbeing... that touched, and that moved... by even the small part of her shared Life's story he'd heard. Touched and moved also, by her gentle Spirit....

But, Vala's snuggling response had told him clearly... his own body warmth, shared, filled all her remaining need. With that knowledge, and the Awakeness stone under his tongue, Roose kept watch...

... till the sun just started to peek above the horizon....

As the warm sun's rays began to peek over the horizon Vala stirred but not enough to wake. Being reptilian she had to absorb the sun's rays to gather energy and as the sun rose higher and the temperature rose as well she began to gently shift. Spreading her wings out to catch even more of the golden rays she opene dher jeweled eyes. Her vision was foggy from sleep but gently raised her head and yawned hugely, her long teeth glittering in the sun before she closed her great jaws and gazed about her. When she remember the warmth that had been near her she slowly looked down and smiled before leaning forward to nuzzle Roose in a gentle hug. "I thank you for attending to my safety during the night, though I take it you must be tired.

Precious Life...

Post by Roose Hurro »

Vala's stirrings alerted Roose... it was time for her to awake. And though his body still pressed against her's, in the sharing of his warmth, he reached out... touched the diamond on her forehead, with a single clawed finger... flared his Eye, and nullified the stone under her tongue. Yet, Vala remained asleep, obviously soaking up the morning's sunrise heat... and Roose remained by her side, only reaching up to remove his Nute from her shoulders... folding it with proper ritual, and setting it on his lap... not ready to put it back on, till Vala was fully awake and active again....

Yes, a bit more time passed... the sun rose higher in the sky... then Vala spread her wings in the sunlight, opened her eyes... first with the look of sleep, then of pleasant memory... and her smile, along with her nuzzled hug, made Roose purr his happiness into the morning's air...

... and her words made him look at her... cast his eyes deeply into her's... as he spoke...

... "Lost sleep can be gained back... a lost life is lost forever... unless it's remembered, and held inside one's Spirit."

He reached up, and caught her muzzle in his hands. His H'rik Eye touched the end of her snout, his eyes closed... he accepted her exhaled breath on his face, before he pulled away... and then, he returned his grateful gaze back into her eyes...

... "But, to be remembered, you must live first in the eyes of others... share your own Spirit, without hesitation...."

Roose slid one of his hands away from her muzzle... reached into a beltpouch, and removed a container. He held it up...

... "First thing this morning, I think you might want to remove the stone under your tongue... before we go looking for breakfast...." His tail flicked out, and his tuft brushed the top of her head... an affectionate gesture.

And Roose... felt intently curious. He wanted to know how dark the stone had turned....
Vala blinked down at Roose but smiled down at him, enjoying the touches, attention. She'd always wondered if her sibling had found mate...raised a family. "I hope that if I were to pass my life would live on inside of you," she said softly as Roose took out the container and he mentioned the stone. She'd conpletely forgotten the stone but nodded. Her slender tongue wrapped around the stone before returning it to the container Roose held out. At the affectionate gesture she sighed closing ehr eyes, so nice...and gentle...she turly adored the affection Roose showed her.

Shared Affections...

Post by Roose Hurro »

What Vala had said to him... her intimate confidence, bound in words of trust... gave Roose such a rush of warm affection and pure honor, he choked on any words he could have said in return... simply swallowed his heart, mentioned breakfast and the stone... and kept silent on the matter of Remembered Life, as she returned the sleepstone to its container... and he gave her the tail tuft brush in response. From her reaction, he knew she enjoyed the gesture...

... but, from the color of the stone, he knew her sleep would have been intensely troubled... the silver in the stone had turned such a deep, dark blue, it was almost black... loaded with nightmares and lingering pain. Still, Roose was glad the stone had filtered out these traumas from her dreams... even though the stone was no longer active, his seelers perceived the remaining flux line traces still tied to it... a sign of powerful emotions, locked within. All understandable, given she'd nearly been killed....

Roose continued with his tail tuft brushing, tracing down her neck to her shoulders... around to her throat, and then back up to her head. He returned the container to its pouch, without stopping the swish of his tail... the hand he still held to her muzzle giving her a slow rub along her jawline. In a way, he hated the need to stop...

... the last time he'd shared such a moment had been with... with Chorri, before he'd left. That time had been way too brief, too cautious, due to his... condition... at the time. He'd wanted right then to show her his wings, to hear her say 'Yes'... and... and to... yes yes yes!... make love to her, in a quiet private place, as gently as possible...for the first time... just the two of them, alone in the cool air, sunlight and dappled shadows of that bright morning....

But, it had not happened that way... his chance biological need to remain away for a year had ended that wonderful moment, before it had truely begun. It hurt to think... if not for that random chance... that tweak during his maturation... he'd be smiling down on the infant child he and Chorri... would have... could've made together, by now.

Vala held her own alien beauty, within her form... and a strong Spirit any male would be proud to share his own with... but, she was not 'Twill... not his beloved Chorri....

And yet, she was female... lonely and alone . And, most likely, very hungry...

... so, he reluctantly removed his body warmth from her side, stood up, stepped one stride away... quickly slipped his Nute back over his shoulders... then turned and bowed to Vala, tail held high...

... "Forgive me... but... I do believe you're hungry... and... well, if you don't feel up to hunting for food, I would be honored to offer you my own hospitality... and invite you to GreenDay for a meal."

And, as he finished speaking, Roose cast a rapid glance to the sky... for only a second, in the direction Jah had flown the night before... wondering when she would return...

... and then, he offered Vala the end of his tail... his tuft, waved in front of her face like bait... with a toothy grin attached to the offer....

Vala watched Roose for reactions to the gem, she knew it had helped her sleep but...there was something more to it then that. She saw no great change in his facial features or movements and mentally shrugged off the questions racing through her mind. As he placed the gem away she purred softly at the continued attentions, the gentle caresses across her jaw and his tail tracing the length of her muzzle, throat and shoulders. As he rose to replace his Nute across his shoulder she slowly stood, her legs having regained their strength. Streching in a very cat like manner, arching her back and legs, flexing her paws before turning to him. Hearing the offer she ran it through her mind. She did not believe she'd be very efficient at hunting she would be allright fishing, but losing the current companionship was not something she wished to do and smirked as she watched his tail sway before her. "I would be honored to join you, Roose," she said softly, walking up beside him as she lay her great wings across her slender back.

Offered Flight...

Post by Roose Hurro »

Vala's purring had helped ease Roose's concerns over the stone's dark, recorded dreams. Instead , he concerned himself with thoughts on how he would introduce her to GreenDay... though she was small for a dragon, she was quite large in comparison to a 'Twill, given her length and wingspread... yes, her wings would stretch across most of the Prime Accumulator room's width, leaving... just barely... a narrow highway lane's worth of space, on each side. Casually, without really thinking on it, he reached out his right hand, flared his Eye, and caught his staff as it shot straight up off the ground... towards the open sky, overhead, if his hand hadn't been there to stop its rapid ballistic rise....

And then there was... hmm... what to feed her, out of the wide selection of recipies he knew. There was also another, more immediate concern. One that would require a Decision, for Vala alone to make...

... "And I would be very honored to escort you, dear Vala... though I offer flight to GreenDay, under my own power, just... walking... would allow us more time to share our Lives with each other... to talk. As my Invited guest, the choice is up to you...."

Roose hadn't eaten since late yesterday afternoon... yes, the last time he'd visited GreenDay... so, he felt very hungry this morning. And yet... given it was only a fifteen, maybe twenty minute walk, he was willing to wait longer... but, it was Vala's Decision... her own hunger, or her desire for conversation, that would determine how they would travel...
Vala smiled and nodded as she came up beside Roose. Taking a deep breath of the warming morning air and feeling the warmth of the sun rejuvenating her she nodded. "Walking would do well. My body is still slightly cold and the added heat from the sun will do me well," she said. "Also the walk will allow you to save energy you would use in flight," she said sfotly. Upon seeing Jah she nodded with a sigh of contentment. "Last night's sleep was in actuality the best I ahve had in many decades. No fears of hunters find me during my sleep and no nightmares plauged my mind to rob me of rest," she said softly, looking to Roose with great appreciation shining in her eyes.

Making Water...

Post by Roose Hurro »

The sound of hoofbeats touched Roose's large, oversized ears... those same ears twitched forward and back, and his seelers flicked up, into an attitude of attention. A quick sniff and... whooo!... the smell of sweaty horse colored the air within his nostrils... a potent odor, but... other than a quick exhale, to clear his sinuses... he took no offense....

Even before he turned his eyes in her direction, he recognized the sound and scent as Jah's... and the shifting patterns he perceived... as hers, too.

Just before he'd heard the hoofbeats, Roose had nodded his respect of Vala's choice, and of her concern... then the sound, smell and sight of Jah... her greeting and question... prevented him from speaking, at that moment...

... and Vala, too, managed to voice her own answer to the question first, while Roose found himself short of words... and growing ever more aware of the urgent need to pee.

Still, he listened, feeling a bit self-conscious with Jah present, as well as feeling warm... due to the shine in Vala's eyes, directed at him. Yes, he would have felt the same degree of self-consciousness... under the present circumstances... if he had not been wearing his pants or Nute....

He gripped his staff tightly, and gave Vala a one-armed hug around her neck. His eyes returned the shine, as his voice expressed... in its tone... his inner warmth...

... "And I kept the bugs away all night, didn't I...?

Roose licked Vala on the cheek...

... "Jah, our night was indeed peaceful... but I can see your night was indeed very active, so I will extend towards you the same Invitation I gave towards Vala... please, allow me to share my hospitality, with the offer of a meal... and a bath, to ease the aches you must feel...."

Roose bowed to Jah in open respect....

Then, he turned back to Vala...

... "If you also wish, I offer a bath to you, dear Vala. And further, for you both... if you wish... I can aid you in your bathing, since GreenDay's facilities will be unfamiliar to you... provide for your individual grooming needs, if you wish my help...."

All this talk of bathing... thoughts of running water... made Roose's need to pee even more urgent...

... "We've all been through... ahh... hurrr!... rough days and long nights, each in our own Life turnings...." Roose started to hop a bit, from foot to foot, his tail a bit tense... "And I... hurrr!... really need to answer a... ahhh!... call of nature, if you will excuse me...."

With that, Roose quickly rushed off into the forest... looking, in his movements and expressions, much like a little child... trying to follow his mother's admonitions... not to grab his crotch in public, as he hopped up and down... awkwardly twitching with his discomfort, while hurrying to the nearest restroom....

.... Anyway, slightly less than thirty seconds later, Roose returned... looking relieved. Without hesitation, he gave Jah a big hug... careful not to bump her with his staff... and then, like Vala, he gave her a lick on the cheek... and a light, brief touch to her collar... as a reminder he had not forgotten. And yes... afterwards... his bright emerald gaze encompassed both females, as he released Jah from his hug, smiled warmly at Vala, and spread his arms in an all-encompassing gesture, a note of excitement tinting his voice...

... "Shall we walk...?"

Yes, he was excited to show off GreenDay to his new friends....
Vala blinked at the offer of a bath, the thought of rubbing her hide against heated sands was all too tempting. Looking back over her back she sighed seeing cracks and dried area where if not treated with oils would indeed blister and bleed. It had been well over half a year since she'd found a descent aloe bush to rub against and treat her skin and if Roose had oils that could soothe her hide she'd be immensely grateful. "A bath sound utterly divine. My hide has been rough as of late. heated sands and oil would do me well," she said as she stretched once more and watched Roose scamper off to...relieve himself.

Vala smiled to herself, having thought it cute to see him hopping about, though the reason why he had been was obviously annoying to him. When he returned and began to show him the way he nodded at Jah's words following after Roose as he led the way to GreenDay.

Walking Along...

Post by Roose Hurro »

As he led the way, Roose reflected on Jah's words... for a brief moment... surprised by her turn of phrase, and how close it came to the truth. Though he was not this Fire Stallion Jah mentioned, he could indeed lead her into the heart of the sun, if she so wished... maybe he would ask her if she wished to see the sun's Heart, if the opportunity arose. As for Vala's expressed wishes...

... "Vala..." Roose's ears and seelers drooped behind his head, and his tail lashed a bit, as he looked over towards her... "I have no heated sands to provide... only forms of water, from steaming mist to ice-cold deluge..." But, his expression didn't remain down for long... "However, oil I can provide... enough to make your hide and scales gleem."

For now, he didn't mention that the oil would come from his own body... didn't consider that fact important....

Roose reached out to Vala... gave her a scratch between the ears... "I will do what is necessary, to care for your grooming needs. As I would do for my own...."

He looked over towards Jah...

... "Same for you, Jah... when I'm done, your fur... and the skin underneath... will feel fresh and new... or... you'll have permission to bite my tail, till it bleeds..." His expression took on a sly, amused look... "Or... you'll have permission to hoof me in the nads...."

His expression broke into a big grin, as his legs broke into a brief, leaping run... further onward, where he turned... performed a series of rapid dance-steps, while executing a graceful battle staff form... and really, just showing off... feeling a bit high, due to keeping the Awakeness stone under his tongue... yes, a bit too long, he well knew. And yes, when he reached GreenDay, it would be well past time to spit it out...

... but, until then... given his sleepless night... he needed its continued stimulation, since only he knew the way to GreenDay....
Vala thought a moment as she foolwed after Roose, hearing there was no heated sand. "Hmmm...well water would do fine as well, it is just sand wears down rough patches before I I can find aloe bushes to rub my hide into," she said softly and purred again when he scratched her behind her finned ears. turning to him she licked his cheek in reassurance, as long as I can wash myself and am able to use oil to sooth my cracking hide I will be more then grateful." She watched him dance off, chuckling as he performed the little show. "Very agile, no?" she said glancing to Jah with a smile.

Towards GreenDay...

Yes, given his sleepless night and the stone, Roose felt an odd mix of relaxation and tiredness... yet, also, a hyper-energetic strength, an alertness... a tension in his muscles, but a looseness in his movements. A feeling conductive to his dance steps and staff forms, and also to the wandering of his thoughts... he could still feel Vala's lick on his cheek, as he bowed to the two females, when done with his routine... and then returned to his role as guide, still with a dance-pace to every step... a pace somewhere between a brisk walk and a jog.

He felt grateful for the lick... found himself remembering similar, fondly affectionate moments with Chorri... between thoughts of... yes!... of how he was going to fit two oversized females through his bedroom, down the passage to his bathroom... and from there, into his shower. Most likely, he would have to make a few matrix adjustments... borrow space from elswhere, till his friends' bathing and grooming needs were satisfied....

GreenDay had been designed for two 'Twill... for Roose and Chorri's needs. Good thing GreenDay had also been designed for expansion, and for changes in need ....

And yes, Jah was not the only one distracted... not the only one to return to the present, though Roose did so with a quiet snort. He turned his head, glanced over his shoulder, and gave her an amused smirk...

... "I heard that remark..." He chuckled, in good-natured spirits... a wild-animal glint in his eyes... "And... hurrr!... while it would indeed be a painful experience, they do grow back... a lot quicker than a bitten-off tail...."
Vala smiled softly and nodded to Jah as she heard Roose's comment. She chuckled softly and shook her head. "Well, it is surprising to hear you are able to regenerate, though I suppose it is...necessary at times."

GreenDay in Sight...

Post by Roose Hurro »

Roose raised an eyebrow towards Vala in an expression very obviously taken aback, as his reply targeted her last words with fervor...

... "I would certainly hope not!..." He licked the end of his snout, a nervous seeming gesture... "I don't think loosing a limb... or being violently castrated... is something necessary. Just because I can regrow lost parts doesn't mean I want to... I try to avoid such incidents, just as strongly as you would. As I said, loosing a part of myself would indeed be a painful experience I'd rather not be put through...." Roose gave Vala a playfull thwat on the rump with his tail tuft...

... "My pada uncle Timmor is a weaponsmith in our family's CityHome... and... and, yes... when I was very young, and he was very inexperienced in his craft, there occured... an... unfortunate accident. Uncle Timmor spent nearly an entire Lunariad recovering from it, and... if not for my people's ability to regenerate, along with some very attentive medical care... I'd still be calling him 'Uncle Stumpy'..." He grinned... "So, I must say no... yes, it's nice to have the ability... but, no... best not to ever need it!"

Roose turned to Jah...

... "And I would also wish others could have the same... hmmm... peace of mind... I enjoy... knowing, whatever happens, if they survive... they'd never have to live with... permanent scars...."

Roose sighed, as he shook his head... but his expression still held the hint of a smile....

Then... Jah asked a question... a very relevant question, given their goal... so he answered, by first moving to her side, placing his free hand on her neck... above the collar... giving her the same 'thwat on the rump with his tail tuft' as Vala had playfully received... and, with a steady shine to his Eye, relieved her of sixty percent of her weight. Yes, he could easily see how tired she was....

He hurred, and then gave her his answer, raising his staff and pointing into the near distance... towards a low, dark mound... clearly visible, a bit farther out into the wastelands...

... "There is GreenDay..." Roose said, grateful he'd moved his ship much closer to Deep Forest... within a third of a mile... of which they'd already covered two-thirds of the distance, given the pace he'd set for them... and still maintained, as they continued to pace ever closer....
Turning her head up Vala looked to the direction Roose gestured and blinked. She'd never seen anything like this...ship was it? Compared to the contraptions she'd seen the humans come up with, especially to chase her down, this was a work of art. "I have never seen anything like this..." she said turning her gaze to Roose. "From your craft...and thugh I have seen many creatures on my travel, I take it you are not from this world..."

Entering GreenDay...

Post by Roose Hurro »

Roose looked at Jah... looked up at her shading wing, and shook his head, with a smile...

... "Your thanks is welcome... but I spent my sleepless night relaxed, while you spent yours in exertion. If anything, I should thank you... you gave more to see Vala safe than I did... so, you deserve a little easement." His voice was soft, for Jah's ears only....

Then, Vala spoke... and Roose couldn't help feeling a sense of pride. After all, his family had built GreenDay, for him and for Chorri. Even though he had been a part of GreenDay's design and construction... every time he touched his ship, he felt the touch of every family member's contribution... the pattern of their Spirits, in every detail...

... "Yes, Vala... I am indeed a long way from Home...." He turned his attention to her... "Yet, you and Jah have made me feel at home, here... helped me to feel less lonely, less isolated... by allowing me to care...."

Roose gestured with his staff, and nodded...

... "I can only thank you both, for that."

.... And so, more time passed in walking... and GreenDay came within reach, only a few dozen yards ahead. Roose gestured Vala and Jah to halt, then sprinted the rest of the way, till his feet touched GreenDay's hull... the touch, linking him with his ship. With a series of rapid hand moves, he removed a container, spat out the stone held under his tongue... sealed the container, and returned it to the same pouch in which he'd stored Vala's sleepstone. Now, with GreenDay underfoot, he had energy to tap....

Now, he turned to face Vala and Jah... set his feet just so on a specific hull ridge...

... and, with a smile, flared his eye... bright and strong as a nova, but without the blinding glare... a bluewhite wash of light....

A ripple washed over the surrounding area, radiating from the grayblack mound... inside GreenDay, systems awoke... and, as he focused on his present need, matrix patterns shifted... mass was redistributed to several places, deep within. The ground covering GreenDay... parted... folded back... and Roose stood balanced on the tip of an extended drivespine...

... as GreenDay rose out of its hole... the earth folded back into place... and then, GreenDay settled down on three extended shafts... a two hundred foot long, eighty foot wide, fifty foot thick, grayblack seed... bristling with fifteen spines, pointed forward, and displaying the bluewhite glow of crytaline undersides.

GreenDay's whole aspect looked more grown than constructed... as the drivespines moved, they seemed part of something alive... yes, they slowly dropped back against the hull and retracted, blending in with their attendent ridges, as they clicked into place and relocked...

... and, at that moment, Roose held his staff out, grasped in both hands, and lept...

... and, twirling head over tail through the air, landed a short distance in front of Vala and Jah... his feet touching lightly... his fur ruffled... his eyes gleeming, and his expression colored by a proud smile....

Roose bowed low, his eyes never leaving the two... waiting... females. With a gesture of his staff, he spoke...

... "Welcome to GreenDay... just follow me, and I'll see to your needs."

With those words, Roose turned and led... as a much larger shaft... of interlocked rods... slid down, from a point centered between the other three shafts, and touched the ground... at that moment, the rods slid aside with a faint musical thrum... exposing a platform twelve feet in diameter. Big enough for Roose, and for his guests...

... "Ladies first..." he said....

Vala sighed softly, her large blue eyes watching Roose as he spoke of being far from home and lonliness. She knew how he felt, though not of how it felt to be awaay from home for...well, she'd never had a true home. Looking up into the sky her mind wandered to what her siblings must be doing. Perhaps in the mountains with a den full of dragonets to care for and a mate to keep them company. How she'd dreamt of such a future...though after over a century of life, having reached her prime and height of reproduction not a dragon, much less a Diamond, had crossed her path in life.

When GreenDay emerged she watched intrigued. In facination of Roose's movements and how he called upon the great creation. Pausing as he'd instructed she only continued at his beckoning. Stopping at the entrance she looked down at her claws before retracting the lethal talons...the last thing she needed to do was tear the ship to pieces. Following at a reasonable distnce she closed her wings about her slender body.
