I finally had time to read this, and about time too, how great a story this was! Poor Willow, I feel so sorry for her! Great writing, SD, can't wait to meet her! ^_^

Willow's Entrance

Post by SilentDreamer1721 »

(OOC)Okay, don't add this character to my custom title yet, and please let me keep this thread up! I can't give you my reasoning until it is wintertime, or I'll give something away. So, bear with me, Gaeva

(IC)The City of Dreams glistened in the autumn sunlight, its gold and ivory buildings shining bright enough to almost blind one if he stared long enough. In the center of the city sat a fountain, the purest water imaginable gushing forth from the mouth of an ivory tiger to gather in a circular pool where thirsty travelers or tired workers could quench their desires. Just behind it stood a large palace, the towering domes never failing to draw gasps of amazement from both newcomers and long-time residents.

Inside the palace, the tigress named Willow slept on pile of cushions that lay on the marble floor. Her white fur shone from the light that sneaked through a nearby window, reflecting bits of colored light and making her look somewhat like a giant prism. Her eyelids moved slightly and her paws twitched spasmodically as if she were having a nightmare.

Willow's mate, Brytton, padded in through the doorway and gently nuzzled her. The tigress jerked awake, panting hard and looking around the room with glazed eyes.

"Willow, its alright. You're at home. You're okay," Brytton spoke gently until his loved one calmed down. "Was it the dream again, darling?"

Willow struggled to bring herself back from the dreamworld she had visited. "Yes. The same one." She blinked her eyes quickly, as if trying to keep back tears, although tigers couldn't cry. "I was running through the woods outside the city. What seemed like a hundred horrible beasts were chasing me, shrieking like banshees. The closest ones swung at me with claws made of steel, drawing blood that seemed to give them even more incentive to chase me." Willow winced, as if she could still feel the pain from the nightmare.

Brytton nuzzled her cheek again with his reddish-orange nose. "Don't worry. It's only a dream. You're safe here with me." He spoke convincingly, but a hint of doubt showed in his coal-black eyes.

"No it's not!" Willow almost shouted, feeling herself starting to become hysterical, but not caring. "You know the history of my family, the dreaming powers that have been bestowed upon one kitten in each litter. Sometimes it is the ability to change ourselves, growing wings or changing form in some other way. Some have had the ability to create things from their dreams. That was how this magnificent city was built. Then there are those that can tell the future. Like me. My dreams have come true before, and I have no reason to believe that this one is going to be any different."

Brytton heaved a sigh, resigning himself to the possibility that it might come true. "Do you know when will this attack come? We need to know how much time we have to prepare."

"It won't be long, love," Willow said, her voice trembling as she looked at her stomach, which was already rounded in the last stages of pregnancy. "This time, I reached the end of the nightmare, though I can't remember much. It was very cold and dark, and that was where I gave birth to our children." She looked up with haunted eyes. "We only have two weeks at the most, maybe less. And, Brytton? I died there."

Miles outside the protecting city walls, another tiger lay sleeping in a dark cave. A short distance from it was a fire, its flames casting an evil glare over the large beast. The shadows created on the cave walls pulsated eerily, dancing to a tune inaudible to human ears.

The power of dreams that Willow had spoken of were visible on this creature. The shadows on the wall grew more numerous as he slept on, then slowly began covering the rest of the room, until the light of the fire extended only a couple of inches from its spot.

In the pitch black beside the tiger sat an even darker form, one that seemed to suck in the light like a black hole. Its human-like fingers stroked the tiger's fur as it watched the goings on. "A little more, sleeping Trianthor. A little more." Merkin grinned as the shadows began to flesh out into tall, grotesque forms.

Kidnapping Queen Willow's young cousin was the best move I could have made. It only took a little mind influence to train him to bow to my will. He had already begun training himself to control his dream powers, which was a big plus. Soon, our army will be strong enough to take over Dream City and dethrone those two big kittens!

Trianthor shifteded slightly in his sleep, as if trying to resist Merkin's control. Merkin's fingers tightened into the fur at the big tiger's nape, and the motion ceased. Easy, kitty. Your work's not done yet.

All around them, sharp, glistening claws emerged from the shadows' 'skin' at the elbows, back of the ankles, and the knuckles.

(OOC) feel free to comment, anyone. if you see any plotholes, anything that doesn't match up, please tell me.

Thanx!
(IC)

Twelve days later...

"Today's the day. We find out if my dream comes true today." A very pregnant Willow spoke without any of the joy an expectant mother usually shows.

"Don't worry, dear," Brytton said softly. "You know I've had our best dreamers reinforce the city wall, and a safety feature has been added to the gates which will incinerate anything with evil intent that tries to pass through." He lay down beside her and nuzzled her cheek gently. "Any of those creatures you saw in your dreams would be fried before they even took two steps into the city. Besides, None of the guards patrolling outside the wall have seen anything suspicious. Everything seems normal." What Brytton left unspoken was the fact that he had overseen the building of the city's defenses, and had taken part in the strengthening of the wall himself. He wasn't going to let anything happen to his mate and her unborn children.

Willow smiled tightly at Brytton's concern. Love welled up inside, making her heart beat faster. Still, something niggled at the back of her mind, restricting her from totally relaxing. It was like a storm was building, about to break forth, and she could do nothing to stop it.

A slight pain came from her stomach, and Willow winced, grateful for the opportunity to direct her attention elsewhere. "These rowdy children of yours seem ready to come out and play."

Brytton grinned, lips revealing sharp canines. "It'll be a while before they'll be playing. You know, they're going to have the best mother to help them grow up."

Willow heitated for a moment. "Yes, yes, they will."

* * * * *

Outside the wall, a single guard paced infront of the gate, eyes and ears alert for possible trouble. Everything was quiet, not a thing was moving. The hot sun beat down upon him, making him sweat heavily underneath his fur coat.

Then, a motion at the edge of his vision caught his attention. He twisted around, but nothing was there. Cautiously, he padded over to the spot he thought he had seen it. Not even a smell had been left behind for him to find. "Must have been a squirrel or something."

The guard turned to return to his post when a line of pain made its way down his side, stretching from his front hip to his rear hip, tearing away muscle and flesh. He roared in pain and fell to the ground. The guard struggled to turn and get a look at his attacker, but thumped back down, lifeless, when his throat was ripped apart.

A shadow emerged and stood beside the dead body, calmly licking the warm blood from its claws. The first victim. A slight hiss of satisfaction escaped as the last of the blood was licked up by its tongue. It had been promised that royal blood would taste ten times better, and it was anxious to confirm that information. "Let's go."

As one, a group consisting of close to eighty deadly individuals emerged from behind trees and bushes where barely a deer could have hidden before. Together, they raced across the space between the forest and the city wall. Ignoring the large gates, they ran straight through the wall as if it were made of smoke.

* * * * *

Willow jerked awake from her spot in the bedroom, gasping for breath. The dream had come again, this time clearer than ever. She knew with certainty now that it was going to come true. With terror in her eyes, Willow opened her mouth to call for Brytton, but stopped as he came running around the corner.

"Willow, something's happened! The outside guards haven't reported in, and no one that we send after them comes back. Now, before you get all upset, I don't think whatever it is can get inside, but just the same, I'm going to go check. You stay in this room. If something does get through, this will be the safest place."

Brytton turned to go, but Willow called after him. "Wait!" He shot her a questioning glance over his shoulder. "I love you, Brytton!" She had a feeling that this was her last chance to say those words to him.

"Listen, I'm coming back. Don't worry. Nothing's going to happen to me." Then he was gone.

Willow paced the floor, her white paws whispering against the cold, smooth marble. The thoughts in her head kept turning around and around 'till she thought she'd go crazy. In my dreams, the creatures were only chasing me! Maybe if I leave, they'll spare the city, and Brytton besides!

Her thoughts seemed to make sense to her fear-filled mind, and disregarding Brytton's orders to stay inside, Willow left the room and practically flew down the staircase. Then, once outside, she dashed through the pair of gates behind the palace, ignoring the pains that came more frequently now. She took one last, long look at her home for so many years, then disappeared into the woods.

* * * * *

The leader of the Merkin's shadow creatures picked its way through the carnage littering the city's streets. The inhabitants had put up a brave struggle, but none of them were able to inflict any damage on the fierce shadow creatures. The signs of their battle was shown in the streets. Dead bodies lay everywhere. Everything living had been destroyed within a span of five minutes at the most. The leader came to a halt beside the fountain, its pureness looking out of place in this place of death.

"Report!" One of the leader's minions stepped forwards and sketched a quick bow. "No sign of the king or queen yet. We are about to begin our search of the palace."

"Good," the leader said in a smoky voice. "Proceed, and remember that Lord Merkin wants them to die slowly and painfully."

A flash of orange sailed through the air, heading straight for the leader, only to land on the pavement as the leader disappeared then reappeared to the left.. Brytton roared his anger as he rose to his feet and attacked again. "I may be outnumbered, but you will die!" The beast laughed as Brytton's paw passed through him. "And how will you win if you can't even hit me?" A glimmer of fear appeared in Brytton's eyes as he realized he had bit off more than he could chew, then he forced himself to stand straighter. He had to at least distract them long enough for Willow to realize what was going on and escape.

Without warning, a stripe of red appeared above Britton's right eye, the blood blinding him momentarily. He roared again, this time in pain.

The shadow leader grimaced. "You stupid fool. You see that you cannot hurt me, yet I can obviously kill you any time I please. That was just a sample of what I can do. Prepare to die!"

* * * * *

Willow ran as fast as she could, panting hard. Dodging trees and crawling under bushes was definitely not for pregnant ones. Hearing footsteps behind her, she picked up her pace slightly. This section of the woods was starting to look hauntingly familiar, but she had nowhere else to go. The footsteps grew closer, and then the screams began. Willow's heart almost failed her as the wails from her dream pierced her ears. "No, please no!" she whispered under her breath. Only moments before, she had been willing to give up her life for Brytton, but now she was almost petrified with fear. There was no way she could keep this up much longer.

* * * * *

Trianthor lay in the now-empty darkness of the cave, asleep yet again. His creation powers had developed greatly under Merkin's influence during the time he had been a captive, and were completely controlled through Merkin's mind control.

At the moment, however, the dark master's attention was elsewhere. A report had come in that the city had been taken over, and he was sitting in a different room in the cave, making plans for his reign. His shadow creatures had been a great success.

Unknown to him, because the shadow creatures were a product of Trianthor's dreaming mind, he possessed a slight connection to their minds. He wasn't able to control them, but he was able to recieve certain information from them. Right now, he was watching through their eyes as they chased Willow through the trees.

Through the haze of apathy clouding his mind, Trianthor felt a slight pang of fear for his cousin. When they were little, they had fought like most cousins of the opposite gender, but as they grew into young adults, they had become quite close. That is, until he had been captured almost three years ago. Then everything had changed.

Trianthor had been under Merkin's control almost non-stop until this present date. When the evil mind took over, Trianthor was incapable of resisting. At this time, however, Merkin had let his grip on the tiger's mind slip in his eagerness to plan his empire.

Like an enexperienced swimmer, Trianthor struggled to gather his thoughts, which drifted around in his head, disappearing as soon as he was about to grasp them. It took a minute for his sluggish brain to form a plan, and another full minute for him to put it into motion.

In the center of a tall grove of trees, a strange light began so pulsate, starting out the size of a needlepoint, then slowly growing larger. Trianthor began to sweat, shuddering slightly with the effort it was taking him to concentrate on such a great task. Willow and her pursuers had almost reached the spot. He had to hurry.

* * * * *

The shadows were beside Willow now, angry screams mixing with mocking laughter. Claws flashed from out of nowhere to slash at her. Willow dodged the first swipe, but the second caught her front leg, making her falter slightly. A second ripped away fur and skin from her side, sending blood pouring onto the ground. Resisting the impulse to faint, Willow ran on, though she knew they could kill her any time they wanted. The loss of blood was making her weave slightly, and the scenery seemed to shift in front of here eyes.

Through the haze of pain, Willow saw a light ahead, behind some trees. In her state of mind, she changed her course slightly to head towards it. They're shadows. Shadows are killed by the light!

The shadows screamed louder, smelling the blood. More of them clustered around her, each wanting to be the one to attack next. Willow whimpered once as she entered the grove, then felt herself falling. A burst of silver light filled her vision, and a rushing sound almost deafened her. The screams of the shadow creatures grew fainter as she continued falling, on and on and on...
