[OoC: Moving along now ... I apologize for the sudden rush in scenery, but I'm already tired of the Rift. :D 'Sides, we got a plot to pull, and there's still a looooooooot more stuff that needs to take place.]

--

"Ash," prompted Siltharyn. The wolfess nudged her and Ashowan responded with an instinctive jerk, however subliminal, backwards. "Are you alright? You don't seem like yourself."

Ashowan blinked. "What're you talking about? I'm fine."

Her defense is poor, thought Sheikka, taking in the conversation with eyes half-lidded: narrowed. Siltharyn wasn't the only one to take note of the peculiar difference in Ashowan's demeanor. Something seemed ... very off with the girl. Whether it was because the approaching Samhain - or Halloween - induced a caffeine high or because something was rumbling and tumbling within, the jackal-headed woman did not know. All that she understood was that it was getting unnerving. Seriousness and casual Ashowan-ness punctuated by sporadic behavior. The reaper was erratic. Just not overly so.

"The sooner we get out of here ... the better."

Agreed. Sheikka nodded, grinning somewhat. Her eyes fell upon Valtiel's hood, his gaze turned elsewhere, and she frowned. What was up with him? He was being far too quiet for somebody who previously took plenty of interest in the goings on of their plots. Recently he'd become ... rebellious? Not, not rebellious. Regretful, conforming, and conservative. He did not agree with Sheikka's and Ashowan's attempts to rile up the higher ups and throw their destinies into their own hands for once. Yet here he was trailing after them - some silent shadow following like a puppy. That was creeping her out too. Juno's next words caught her attention. Connection? Before she could respond, Ashowan gave an angular nod.

"True enough. The whole lifeline travel is somewhat more beneficial though." She jerked a thumb towards herself, Sheikka, and Val. "We reaaav - reapers - " Nice save. " - can only teleport to any world at any time once we've been there before. We rely on image memories, recollections, anything that could flawlessly send us from one place to another without any incidents of displacement occurring. Valtiel's the only one in our group that's ever been to Ethernos. He could poof there right now. The only reason we're in the Rift is so that we're provided with a safeguard. If something should happen - say, our teleportation abilities get silenced - we would just need to enter the Rift, remember what lifeline we took or what star we entered, and voila."

Sheikka smirked. She tugged softly at the lifeline with a wild twinkle in her eye. "And it's one helluva ride, too. Lucky t'ing we got 'ere early. Wit' Halloween comin', dis place'll be packed wit' ghosts trying ta find a way home. It'd be like da Garden State Parkway on Turkey Day. No worries, d'oh. From here on in we can poof back and forth."

Movement. The Incubus was mouthing something towards her. Sheikka only caught 'any' before Juno cut him off with a rudimentary, "Hey JINGLES! Pay attention, unless you want to be stuck in an endless void forever, doomed and possibly never able to get back to the bonny lass here."

When Juno gestured to Sheikka, the Anubis-child laughed. Now that was humor. While Sheikka was perverse and 'playful' of her own accord, she was just messing around with Ashley to alleviate the inner tensions of the situation at hand. For all their goofing off, what was to come was much more drastic and terrible. The good taste of laughter now would be needed to prepare for the misery that lay ahead. Glancing at the eyes appearing around them - visibly shuddering when she recalled who they belonged to - Sheikka added, "Whatever you say Bub." In an aside to Ashowan, she whispered, "Why're so many of his lackeys here? Dere were never dis many before ... "

Ashowan's reply was equally low. "All Saint's Day's coming. Considering how fuzzy the reception gets between worlds when the spectral and physical plains ... " She trailed off for a moment, watching with a grimace as Juno split his sword in two. The last time that happened ... She shook her head and continued. " ... intercept, he knows we'll probably pull some kind of stunt. They're on patrol."

"Will they follow us?"

"They'll try."

"Well then we'll just have to fix that, won't we?" Sheikka patted a steel-colored satchel tied to her waist and hidden beneath the rain-soaked cloak.

After handing off 'Thorn' to Entropy, Juno turned his attention towards Ashowan, announced that he already gave her her weapons and that he hoped she wore them soon. The reaper knew what he meant and nodded. Though not presently visible, the blade was definitely around. Sheikka blinked. She threw an inquisitive glance Ashowan's way, where it was met with a smile and a shake of the head. Ah well. As the girl turned to grab the line and observe Siltharyn's taking of the parchment, Sheikka suddenly tensed up. Sensitive olfactory picked up on another disconcerting scent but this one originated from Ashowan. It reeked of corruption - dark things and madness. Concerned, Sheikka poked Ashowan in the shoulder until she turned around.

"Hey Nay?"

"Yeah?"

"You sure you're okay? I mean ... ya been actin' weird and yer scent ... s'like dere's two people inside ya. Da last time I seen ya like dis was when ... well, you know ... "

Frowning, Nex Ventus looked away. "Don't worry about it," she monotoned.

"I think we're good to go ... "

"Good, 'cause we're leaving."

Ashowan dug her free hand into one of the many vest pockets. She pulled from it a gray sphere that was small enough to fit into the palm of her gloved hand. Sheikka took the hint and also went digging on her person. She sifted through that steel gray satchel around her waist where she grabbed up a handful of dust, clenched her hand into a fist, and compressed the substance into a similar orb. Holding them into the air as if in direct defiance of the many lime green eyes staring at them from oblivion, Sheikka and Ashowan threw down the orbs in unison. Though there was no ground for them to collide with, the smoke bombs exploded on contact. Plumes of dust kicked up around them. Up and up it billowed, choking vision and concealing anything within. Alarm flickered across the lime eyes of the watchers. All at once they dove - malformed beasts of different sizes and shapes veined with neon green tattoos, intent on grabbing at the prey before it escaped. No such luck. They jumped into the smog ready to latch onto something but were met with nothing but air and pillows of smoke. Ashowan, Sheikka, and Valtiel had tugged the lifeline and yanked the entire group along with them at mach speeds. Jetting through the air like rockets, they were already at the Ethernos world star when the first lime-eyed monster fought his way from the smoke to stand in dazed confusion of its surroundings.

Bright light blinded them all. The closer they came to the star, the whiter their environment became until everything bleached totally and completely.

"Farewell Rift - "

--

" - Hello Ethernos!"

The sight-incapacitating brightness of the Ethernos star was temporary. Suddenly they were greeted with blue skies, rolling clouds, a cool breeze and an everlasting sense of here and now. Birds tittered and wildlife jumped about. Having been brought to their destination, the lifeline receded and faded from existence while the temporary wormhole closed behind them. The group no longer had the support of the line to hold onto and was sent flying upward, then plummeting downward. The landing would be rough if the proper precautions were not made. Ashowan and Valtiel landed with grace, their feet crushing fresh, dew-filled grass. Sheikka ended up smashing the earth on her side. "My spleen ... " She rolled over with a groan, splayed on her back with arms spread out, staring not-so-peacefully at the sun of ... what was it, summer? No: Warm, but not too hot. Spring?

"Finally." Ashowan sighed. There was a strange weight to her single word: like the entire universe and the centuries it contained were held within it. She took a step forth, glancing back to the others and finally looking Valtiel's way. Disrobing the wet cloak to reveal her fighter-gear garments, Ashowan addressed him with, "Does it look any different?"

The man shook his head. "Look? No. Feel? Without a doubt." Valtiel had no idea how to go about explaining this but ... this world, for all its natural beauty, smelled and felt and seemed old and aged and diseased. Lifeless. Listless. Decrepit, despite the lush grass surrounding them and, in the distance, an abundant forest. "Ethernos has not changed in appearance since I last saw it. Given different circumstances, it would be considered normal. However ... " He gestured before them. Ashowan followed his indication, as did Sheikka, who despite her pain and agonies managed to pull into an upright sitting position. She crossed her legs and clasped claws before her, tilting her massive muzzle to one side. Both gawked for quite a while at the scene which befell them. Having emerged from the Rift just outside a massive wall's equally massive open steel gate, they'd gotten front row seats to an awesome vision.

A city.

But not your ordinary city ... How would one describe this? Let's see ... Think Big Apple and you've got yourself a rough sketch. Now strip the pollution, trash, and homeless people. Delete the cars and trucks and highways and subways, add a couple - no, a lot of trees and green plants. The final step? Imagine that all of the skyscrapers and buildings weren't built on foundations. Imagine they were built on ... nothing. That's right. The buildings of this city were floating and there were no stairs or elevators that led up to them. Everything below them was natural - grass, dirt, weeds, trees, even wild animals.

Sheikka pulled down her hood. Jackal-in appearance, her fur was obsidian dotted with golden hollow circles here and there. The strange addition of a giant bleached serpent skull - including the fangs. Bright red eyes blinked through the sockets of the helmet, gawking. "If dey're houses be floatin', how do da people of dis place be gettin' around?"

Val shrugged off his cloak. Standing at about 6'1", he might be considered an angelic if not for the pallid blue hue of his skin or the black feathers of those enormous wings pinned to his spine. Hawk-nosed with long black hair cascading down the length of his back, Valtiel's ears curved upwards, split in two, and ended at sharpened tips. Aquamarine orbs lined with age wrinkles granted him with a feel of seniority. Valtiel the dark-winged angel was dressed from the waist to his ankles in a white gown adorned with embroidered swirls of silver and gray. Two huge leather straps crisscrossed his chest and back (delicately loopied around the base of the wings). A thick silver bracer attached to his left forearm. Heavy boots coated his feet. Valtiel was weaponless.

"The Ethernian people," he informed Sheikka, "are a race of ghostly beings. They have their ways."

Ashowan nodded a couple of times. She too stared wordlessly for quite a while. Eventually, though, patience caved in. She held open her right hand. Threads of air swept from each finger and lengthened about six feet as they curled about each other. It was as though they were forming from a mold - the wind magic took the form of the scythe Juno handed her back when she first came to Deep Forest (pre-Lost Fields battle), solidified into wood and metal, and became material. She spun it expertly as the last few ethers of wind element dissipated into the air, bringing it to a rest on her shoulder.

"Let's get going." With that she walked through the gates, not pausing to look back.

Valtiel's crinkling face indicated displeasure."She's being hasty," he said with mild disapproval, draping the black cloak over his arm.

"Wouldn't you be, too?" She snapped her fingers and a long, crooked wooden staff appeared in her outstretched palm. It was carved from oak or elmwood. Two shrunken human heads hung from the top portion of it, faces gaunt and dried skin stretched tightly about brittle bones. Utilizing it as a walking stick for no reason, she followed Ashowan.

"She shouldn't get her hopes up. This mission could be a faux. You know that as well as I."

"Dat defeatist attitude of yer's ain't helpin, Val."

"Huh." Was Siltharyn's only reply to what Ashowan had said. She wasn't alright, that was obvious by the way that her eyes looked, the way she moved. It was all too obvious. She watched her carefully, even as the fire wrapped around her right side, her hand and wrist still wrapped up in the life-line that she had been givin'. Looking up and only being distracted as Juno handed her a parchment, she looked it over, the fire wrapped around her hand not harmful to anything at the moment. Carefully, Siltharyn stowed the parchment in her pouch, looking around at the eyes once more, she kept an ear on Ashowan, listening as quietly as she could, not making it know that she was.

As Ashowan explained, Siltharyn's keen ears picked up the difference in the 'reav' and 'reap', though she had no idea what it meant, and for all she knew Ashowan could have said something mistakenly. Ashowan wouldn't hide anything from them at this point... would she? Listening in on what Ashowan was explaining, Siltharyn didn't like the idea that Valtiel was the only one who had been to a certain place, it just didn't sit right with her. A knot formed in her belly, one that always did when she grew apprehensive now. A growl rippled softly through her once more as the eyes continued to shine in the darkness, her ear flicking back and forth out of nervousness as she held tight onto the life-line and dagger. The fire growing brighter. Her magic stores would not be effected until she let it go, so she kept in ready because it took time to form what she wanted it to do in her mind.

Her ears twitched, what did Jackal-girl say? Who's lackeys? The Jackal may have been whispering, but for someone who was part canine, didn't she realize that Siltharyn's own ears would be highly sensitive? Still, it was just not enough information to go on. She had figured that someone dark was involved when Juno mentioned a 'him', but who was this person? Siltharyn's ear flicked once more as she looked around.

The smoke that suddenly blasted into the air took Siltharyn' by surprise and she dropped the spell in reflex, the fire vanishing in a flick of an eye. She didn't even have a second before she felt a pull on her arm and she was ripped off her feet. At first, her heart hammered so hard in her chest that she had troubles breathing because of the sudden shock, but forcing herself to calm down, she slowed her heart rate and her breathing rate. Turning, she saw the others were also connected, but sure enough a short while later the light of a star became blinding and showered all of them with star light. Siltharyn closed her eyes to the blinding spectacle and awaited for them to reach the place they were going to, to feel the return of gravity.

---

The pull on her body was swift and suddenly, but rolling into a front flip, Siltharyn landed on the ground with her knees bent and dagger out, looking around while her ears flicked this way and that. Normal sounds assaulted her ears, the birds, wind through the grass and the trees, nothing that spoke of danger. Carefully, she placed her dagger into it's sheath and shifted into her wolf form. In this playing field, her wolf form would be a lot better. Closer to the ground; able to smell more. Looking up, Siltharyn didn't even pay attention to the Jackal creature and instead took a few paces forward, sniffing the air.

She snorted, clearing her olfactory system of the scent that hit her nose. It was lush and green here, so why did it feel like death? There was a sick smell on the air like when you go into a den where the pups have had the flu for several days. It was there even though the lush greenery should have taken care of it. Siltharyn's hackles rose, this wasn't right. Any Healer knew a scent like that wasn't any good. Sick smell meant that a place wasn't healthy, nor were its inhabitants. The sun warmed her pelt and would soon cause the left-over mud to cake on her fur so she could shake it off easily. Looking around, Siltharyn caught sight of the Jackal and the... angle? She could still smell them as clear as anything and they truly did smell similar to Ashowan, though each with a respective scent that was different.

As Ashowan pulled out her Scythe, Siltharyn took a few more steps forward and as Ashowan moved off, she trotted up to walk beside her friend, ears turning this way and that, one sometimes facing behind her while the other faced forward. She was determined to get answers out of Ashowan, and if she had to in order to make sure her friend was okay, she'd hit with low blows.

"Ashowan, I know that something is wrong. I gave you answers when you came to Silvertree Grove. Don't shut me out. You know you can count on my support, no matter what happens, you know you need one or two people that you can trust unconditionally." Siltharyn looked up at her friend as she continued walking on all fours, already the mud in her white fur was caking and falling off, leaving slightly dusty, but otherwise clean fur.

But that didn't last long as Siltharyn gave a shake and her fur fell off almost completely, new fur immediately grew in it's place. It was at one point a dirty wolf, caked with mud, and then new fresh white and gray fur now sparkled in the sun instead. Though Siltharyn hoped to herself that no one was allergic to wolf-fur. She continued to walk, ice blue eyes aware of everything until she finally spoke once more to Ashowan. "You know I'd do anything for you, Ashowan, even give my life for you. You are truly the closest thing I have ever had as a sister, and I can't stand seeing you in pain."

(Song that inspired me to write this bit... and perhaps set the scene for anyone who cares about what happens in this post.)

Juno never made it out of the Rift. He didn't tie his lifeline.

Or at least that's what the fact were. Cold hard facts. During that cloud of confusion Juno was reaching to snag the bright white link, but becasue the pea green fog was so thick he could not grab one in the time that the group was snagged, leaving the rift and pirate behind.

Then they came, the spindly creatures of black and green, with their green eyes they began their onslaught upon the ship. The pirate dashing about for cover... All the wile thinking about how ironic that he had told an incibus to pay attention or be left behind... where as he had that fate fall upon himself.

But when It was all said and done, there was only wood debris left in the Rift. And amongst them, a torn and tattered red bandana. The cry of several creatures and the flapping of their bodies as they went to report to their master.

What is it that you seek boy? Fame, glory, power, pleasureable company, food or drink, a place to rest or revenge?

Came a voice that only Jing and Yume could hear, it ementated from the sword that Juno had given to the incibus moments before they had left the void.

I can make your wildest dreams come true... just weild me boy. Let my power flow through you...

Now the sword that Juno had given Jing was a really, really old weapon, even by demon standards. It was one that had sparked a war that was still going on between the angels and demons. What happened was after Juno died. Being a pirate he had raided the neitherworlds and heavens above, causing so much havoc that he got kicked out of both places. But he agreed not to come back if he could have two swords. Rose White, the blade of the seven relms of heaven, and Blood Red, the sword of seven sins. Powerful in their own right and able to deal massive amounts of damage when the conditions were right... It was corruption that brought about the war afterwards. The reason why the swords went missing was lost, and the two blamed eachother, starting the entire Angel VS Demon war.

What? Chuclked the sinister voice from the sword. Are you actually taking heed to the pirate? The one that you detest so much? Why don't you listen to me... just to spite him. After all you can do that, it's not hard.

Juno had given Ashley the sword out of mere concern for the Incibus's safety. After all the boy had two hands, and duel weilding wasn't too difficult. Sides the sword would probably more useful in the hands of a demon. Which was the sole reason he had given it to him. The whole bit of lack of skill was just to give confort. No intentional stab, in fact he believed Jing to have a lot of skill, and with that sword in particular... he'd be nigh unstopable in combat in the pirates opinion.

_____________________________________________________________

As for the gun that Juno gave Entrophy, the curse was this: the gun was addicting, simple as that. It became a legend in its own right, people and familys would fude over the gun that never missed, resulting in neadless deaths and much tragedy. ANd the worst thing was that the gun would fire on just a thought. If weilder wanted someone dead, all they have to do is think it and BANG. No trigger required. It took a strong will to keep that gun at bay... Juno hoped that she would be strong enough not to go power mad.

No one ever said Juno was a good judge of character.

Entropy wasn't sure what to make of the incubus tying the string around her wrist when everyone else had tied it for themselves. Of course, the succubus had risen quite a few times as ruler of various empires, and she had always been a highborn demoness, so she her nature was not the least bit disagreeable when it came to being waited on like that. But it wasn't likely that the incubus knew who Entropy was, so she doubted that deference for nobility was the reason for his behavior.

In any case, she had been saved from being in the back of the line when the chase began. Jing took that position. Entropy wasn't sure why he wanted it, but she didn't complain.

Before Entropy could even decide where to store the gun she had been given, the smoke billowed up and the group took off. Entropy was a bit startled by the sudden increase in velocity, but without the creatures pursuing, the ride actually turned out to be fun, if short.

When they arrived on the planet and were tossed up into the air, Entropy almost hit the ground painfully. Luckily, she got over the disorientation and hovered back up just in time. Then she flew back up and caught the incubus before he fell. Her choice was either that or risk letting him land on her, after all.

After taking care of that and setting Jing down on the ground, the first thing Entropy noticed was the city towering above her. It looked... interesting. A bunch of floating buildings apparently built with no damage to nature. And considering the amount of green the nature of this world seemed to provide, Entropy started to worry that she might have landed in one of the Upper Realms. For a demoness, that was not the place to be.

Then she felt a sense of... death about the world. Something was wrong. The planet seemed old, dying. Entropy hoped nobody could tell how that made her feel: relieved. With an imperfection like that, it seemed unlikely that there would be any host of angels with burning swords coming to slice the hellion to ribbons.

The next thing Entropy noticed stole her relief away again. The wormhole had closed, but...

"... That pirate," Entropy stuttered. "Uh... Valitinez Alkalinella Xifax Sicidabohertz Gombigobilla Blue Stradivari Talentrent Pierre Andri Charton-Haymoss Ivanovici Baldeus George Doitzel Kaiser the Third."

Entropy paused for a moment, trying to decide whether she had gotten it right. She felt fairly sure about it. Her memory wasn't always the best, but she was pretty reliable about remembering people's names. She felt a bit of pride welling up over that, but then she remembered what she was about to say.

"I don't see him," she announced.

Ashley hadn’t been paying any attention to what was going on. After he’d said his words there was smoke in the air and they were pulled. When they got out of the Rift, Yume was off his head flapping. His own wings tried so he wouldn’t get anyone with his hooves and spurs. The succubus caught him by surprise, literally. When she set him down he kind of took a step with a strange look on his face. ”I thank you Entropy-san,” he said with a half bow. He didn’t think of that when he’d tied the string. He could have used that for his advantage.

Getting back to a stand Yume came back to his head and they both became distracted.

What is it that you seek boy? Fame, glory, power, pleasureable company, food or drink, a place to rest or revenge?

”Damnit,” growled the incubi, ”Another talking item.” Yume growled at Ashley insulted, but its mind was watching the sword. The hat whispered something to the demon about how that wording had another meaning. Envy, pride, greed, lust, gluttony, sloth, and anger…

I can make your wildest dreams come true... just weild me boy. Let my power flow through you...

You really think I’m that kind of demon. he said to the sword with a breath. Even his hat sighed.

What?

It laughed.

Are you actually taking heed to the pirate? The one that you detest so much? Why don't you listen to me... just to spite him. After all you can do that, it's not hard.

A gloved hand went up to his forehead. You know sword, those are only sins in some other realm, he said, Pleasurable company is what I am. The revenge I seek you won’t be able to help me with. I don’t know where’re you’re from, but things can only be done certain ways where I’m from.

"... That pirate," "Uh... Valitinez Alkalinella Xifax Sicidabohertz Gombigobilla Blue Stradivari Talentrent Pierre Andri Charton-Haymoss Ivanovici Baldeus George Doitzel Kaiser the Third."

Ashley’s eyes came up finally to look around. His hand finally dropped back to his side.

"I don't see him,"

He looked around and gave the sword a chuckle, So much for your idea of spite.
”He tells me to buckle up and doesn’t even have the decency to do it himself?” he said, ”Neko-chan you’re a hypocrite.” His words weren’t for anyone really. The demon went to checking out the city for the first time. The buildings were floating. Other then that nothing really bothered the demon. The place was gated, even if was open. That was strange. Gated community?
Yume you catch where they said we were going? he asked and got an answer, Ethernos? Never heard of it. But that doesn’t matter. A brow rose as his hat informed him of something else.

Ghostly being he said, a look was shot at the angel creature, Well I hope they aren’t too ghost like or I’m screwed. A chuckle from the hat, I wouldn’t laugh if I were you. If I can’t see them, you’re going to have to explain everything. The hat went silent shifting its tail with the sword of sins as the demon walked in the direction the others were heading.

If Sheikka had any eyebrows, they would be raising in curious surprise right about now. Siltharyn just took the liberty to show off apparent shape-shifting abilities. This display of power, though a horribly cliché one, was trained well enough to both appear casual and gain two ounces of the jackal-headed woman’s respect. She scratched the socket of her skull helmet and watched Siltharyn follow after Ashowan, who seemed so in tune with her surroundings that she noticed neither the physical morph nor Entropy and Ashley’s brief ;attachment’ (which bothered her as much as a rock was disturbed in a wind storm). The only response of any sort gained from the reaper showed when the healer wolfess addressed tender subjects with a concerned tongue. She was prying, fact Sheikka bitterly (yet proudly) frowned on. Valtiel? He was indifferent. A mere resettling of his wings showed just how worried he was.

”Ashowan, I know that something is wrong. I gave you answers when you came to Silvertree Grove. Don’t shut me out. You know you can count on my support, no matter what happens, you know you need one or two people that you can trust unconditionally.” The reaper’s pace did not slow. From Siltharyn’s vantage, her expression was unseen. ”You know I’d do anything for you, Ashowan, even give my life for you. You are truly the closest thing I have ever had as a sister, and I can’t stand seeing you in pain.”

Ashowan involuntarily cringed as the term ‘sister’ was used, yet again, and absorbed. She visibly tensed with a reason Siltharyn was not aware of. Her chin bent so that she suddenly faced something interesting to stare at on the ground, the reaper answered in a calm, collected manner. Her inner turmoil betrayed the unnatural ease she was trying to present.

”Now’s not the time nor the place, Siltharyn.” Glancing over her shoulder so that she may look directly at the white wolf, her expression was one of silence. She hoped to send the message subliminally: that Silth should drop the subject because she would find the sought answers soon enough. ”Please.” She paused in step suddenly. ”Something’s wrong … “

Sheikka came to a halt. She drew up her staff and looked skyward. ”I dun’ hear nuthin’. Don’t see nuthin’, eidda.”

”That’s just it.” Ashowan waved flippantly at the empty air. ”No explosions! No screaming whizzies or shit flipping!” (Windra huffed proudly at the use of her phrase.) At Sheikka confusion she added, ”Pink was with us in his Nightmare. You’d half expect the world to tilt on its axis twice over when he’s around.”

” … That pirate. Uh … Valtinez Alkalinella Xifax Sicidabohertz Gombigobilla Blue Stradivari Talentrent Pierre Andri Charton-Haymoss Ivanoviei Baldeus George Doitzel Kaizer the Third. I don’t see him.”

Valtiel’s turned face was as unresponsive as ever, but the reaction of Ashowan and Sheikka as they spun on their heels with jaws agape and eyed wide was priceless. ”Whaa?!”

”He tells me to buckle up and doesn’t have the decency to do it himself.” Ashley chuckled. ”Neko-chan, you’re a hypocrite.”

The Incubus’ words were ignored by the dual faes. They pivoted to one another for a mini-conference.

”You dink he’s still in da Rift?”

”Only one way to find out.”

With that and without wasting another second, Ashowan whirled around. She made a hasty retreat towards whence they came, leaving Siltharyn’s side in favor of stalking past Entropy and Ashley and away from the city. Her lithe form had just begun to dematerialize via dimension phasing when Valtiel reached out and grabbed her shoulder with aged fingers. He quickly pulled her back, thus forcing a premature return to Ethernos from her partially submerged entrance into the Rift. Ashowan became solid again, washed colorations coming in full.

”We should follow his ways,” Val said gravelly. ”Pirate Code. ‘Those who fall behind get left behind’.”

Ashowan scowled. Bollocks. Those’re just guidelines – fragile little rules and rules were made to be broken.”

The half-dragon broke Val’s grip with a simple backwards teleportation. She made to dimension-shift again, but was snagged by both shoulders this time and spun around. Valtiel lowered his skull so he was eye-level with her. Blazing aquamarine locking with pure emerald, Ashowan fought the grapple but found herself incapable of looking away …

”He’ll be fine,” Valtiel reassured. He gave her shoulder bones a soft squeeze. ”There is nothing to worry about.”

Bull! Those things in the Rift will kill him!

Words of a struggle were useless in the end. All at once, pained warmth of pins, needles, and knives spread from the small of her back. It spread to every limb, digit, skin cell, and so forth. Brain nerves numbed and snapped to just as fast. Ashowan slumped slightly, shoulders sagging. She would have fallen if Valtiel didn’t keep her upright. Her pupils shrank momentarily, becoming mere specks of black in an endless sea of green.

”There is nothing to worry about.”

”There is nothing to worry about … “ Ashowan groaned, closing her eyes in time to hide that spectacular sparkle of lime … When they opened again they were back to normal. ”You’re right. Dunno what I was freaking about … “ Valtiel removed his hands after helping her back to her own two feet. Ashowan rubbed her scalp as though fighting a headache. She returned, woozily at first, to Siltharyn’s side. All anxieties were gone, all worries dismissed. Yet a strange feeling of loss stole over her – like she’d forgotten something very important … Giving up, she shrugged her shoulders and reached out to Siltharyn with gloved fingers extended. She caressed the wolfess on the scalp, between the ears. The established physical connection ensured that when Ashowan teleported, she would bring the healer with her. A plume of wind kicked about them and swept them away – here one moment and gone the next.

Sheikka stared after where they’d stood moments before. ”I’m worried ‘bout her. Juno too.”

Valtiel was strolling ahead of her. ”Don’t be. All is well.”

”You know as well as I do dat dose t’ings in da Rift are – “

”He is immortal, after all.”

Valtiel flapped his mighty wings, tearing towards the atmosphere to reach the hovering buildings above. Perplexed, Sheikka could do little more than nod to Ashley and Entropy and gesture to the hovering buildings in indication that they should follow before teleporting herself. She had never once told Valtiel of Juno’s inability to die or age …

Ashowan reappeared with Siltharyn next to her. Valtiel and Sheikka showed up on either side of Siltharyn and Ashowan. They were standing on what appeared to be a cement sidewalk in a normal town, except for one solid fact: they were many miles in the air and the closest thing to a house had no doors to enter or exit. Clearly the people of this place did not require them, but that left the question open as to how anybody got into their living quarters here on Ethernos. The entire place reeked of some sort of corporeal energy – otherworldy, undead, phanastical and boundless. It was a beautiful place with no vehicles or pollution, no hobos, no poverty, no nothing like that. Flower shops, bakeries, cafes dotted the sidewalk’s periphery and strange beings strolled along them with an air of … strangeness. Ghostly in their own right, these apparitions appeared solid and fully human in all ways save for a couple of details. For instance, not one of them had a casual hair color. They were always shades of red, blues, or whatever color of the rainbow. They were all abnormally pail.

But the most striking thing about the Ethernians were their eyes. For one thing, they had no pupils, just vibrant irises. The whites of the eyes were replaced by lighter shades of whatever the iris held. The second thing was that below each eye was three dots. And the third thing? All eyes were on them.

Ashowan scoffed. She started walking and gestured for the others to do the same. ”Ever get the feeling we’re not welcome?” she purred in response to the cold gazes they (Siltharyn, Ashley, and Entropy included) happened to be on the receiving end of.

”If an angry mob chases us outta dis place wit’ torches n’ pitchforks, I’m gonna be pissed.”

”Easy, Sheikka. That was only the last thirty times. What’re the chances of it happening again?”

There was no trust there. None whatsoever.

Siltharyn had bowed her head to Ashowan's request and inwardly agreed to her friends request. Sometimes one just had to handle things on their own. After all, Siltharyn had asked Onin and Barbannis to stand aside as she faced her own shadows. Maybe Ashowan had to do the same thing. She had hardly listened as the others mentioned something was wrong, that much was obvious. If Ashowan and the other two had been so worried about what was going on in the Rift and nothing was happening here? There was something very wrong with that.

It was when it was noticed that Juno was gone. Siltharyn turned and realized that the only thing that remained of the cat creature was his scent that came with them on the objects he had given everyone. No wonder she hadn't noticed right away, she had gone by scents, not sight. That wasn't what put her on edge though. Ashowan insisted in going back for him, but the Val person insisted that they leave Juno behind. Ashowan insisted and tried to go back, but with a force of two hands around Ashowan's arms Val forced the young Reaper to look at him. That's when Siltharyn's fur prickled. For after words Ashowan did not act the same, was not concerned about Juno... that wasn't like the Ashowan she knew. Her ice blue eyes glared at Val, filled with suspiscion. What had he done to her? The Ashowan Siltharyn knew would never, never leave a friend behind. No matter if they were mortal, immortal, or what. She'd never leave them. So what had happened?

Once more Siltharyn found herself very distrustful of the winged avian creature. A friend didn't force another friend to do anything. No, something was very wrong her. Siltharyn kept her cold hard gaze on Val until Ashowan walked up to her. Looking up, Siltharyn kept her worry and suspicion from her eyes for Ashowan's sake and smiled as the Reaper's hand moved across the top of her head between her ears. Siltharyn had no idea what was going to happen, but with a strange gust of wind, she yipped in surprise and they were gone.

---

They appeared in a strange place, filled with spectral beings. Siltharyn's fur rose up on her hackles as she looked at their, what seemed, like sightless gaze, but she had a feeling they could see quite well. Glare for glare she sent them with eyes of ice. Siltharyn growled low and vibrating. Just barely audible, but she kept her stance neutral, they really didn't need a fight with these creatures. Confused and unsure about what was going on, Siltharyn took a deep breath like she had tried to before, but the scents that reached her nose were... confusing ones. Something just didn't click in her mind with the scents. Probably because they were on a whole different world now.

Looking around, Siltharyn took a single step forward. "Well if they use sharp-pointy objects, I've got sharp-pointy objects of my own." Said Siltharyn quietly. And that was true enough. Yes she had a sword and two daggers, but she also had claws and teeth. The problem? How does one harm spectral creatures? There were old theories, but none of them proven. It would be hard to prove them now as it was. Siltharyn wasn't very interested in trying it out.

"So, where to now?" She asked quietly, looking at Ashowan and still not seemingly paying attention to Val, though she did have an ear on Sheikka. She didn't want the strange avian mix creature knowing that she didn't trust him, and she just hoped the glare from before hadn't given her away.

(I ***** hate it when a long post can't be posted because the account times out... now after that message... I'd like to sate that I'm confused... what about the locatoin of Entropy and Ashley?)

Hehehe... so a Demon of lust. I guess I can be of service after all... The sword slipped out of Yume's grip like it was a serpent and wrapped it'self along the other sword that was in the scabbard, forming into an ornate decoration...

And then it went silent.

Meanwhile the decorations in Entrophy's hand went about clicking and wheeling away.

The rose direction melted into flame patterns. the golden part of the cylender supun to a iron black. Accented T's for the hammer seemed to glow with a firey red. THe mother of peral handles became as dark as night with silvery spiderwebs threaded about it.

Brownoser... Sighed the decoration.

In response to Entropy's observation, Ashowan was ready to head back into the rift, and Entropy was ready to follow. Valtiel, however, didn't seem worried about the pirate. He exchanged a few words with the reaper, after which Sho relented from her course. Entropy, puzzled by the sudden change of heart, looked back and forth at the two with a confused expression.

A moment later Valtiel mentioned something about someone being immortal. Someone Sheikka had referred to as Juno. It took Entropy a moment to put two and two together, but she suddenly realized that the pirate's name was Juno. The name Valitinez Alkalinella Xifax Sicidabohertz Gombigobilla Blue Stradivari Talentrent Pierre Andri Charton-Haymoss Ivanovici Baldeus George Doitzel Kaiser the Third must have been an alias.

At that realization, Entropy cringed in shock, her blood running cold. Shock at the utter barbarity of referring to someone by their real name while they were going under an alias. But then Entropy realized that Sheikka might not have been aware of the pirate's incognito status.

Her blood ran cold again however as she realized that, moments earlier, Jing had called her Entropy while thanking her for catching him. Had she... yes, she had introduced herself to him by her true name when they had first met. How could she have forgotten to call herself "Chaos?" She hoped it was just the natural trust she felt for her fellow 'cubus, given that Jing was the only member of her own race she had seen lately, that had thrown her off her guard. Otherwise, her memory was getting worse than she thought.

Then she began to wonder something else. Why was she going by an alias? Before she had a chance to ponder this question, the rest of the group took to the air or teleported away. Following suit, Entropy rose into the air.

---

She landed with the group amidst the strange creatures that inhabited the floating city. Presently the creatures were giving Entropy and her comrades the stare. Unused to the type of scrutiny she was receiving, Entropy unconsciously moved closer to the incubus (assuming he was close enough) and nervously adjusted her hair. When that didn't help, she tried straightening her clothes. When neither of those habitual activities accomplished anything, Entropy's conscious mind took over and decided to follow Ashowan's example of scoffing.

Like they aren't ten times wierder than any of us, she thought.

A moment later, Entropy noticed the changes the gun in her hand had made. So, the weapon had changed its appearance to reflect the succubus' nature, it seemed. At least, that's what she hoped. She had been wondering if she had been acting as much like a demon as she was supposed to lately.

If the "wand" also turned out to be as useful in battle as Juno had said it was, Entropy was going to grow attached to it.

((Ashley is not well <<'))

Ashley watched with interest, having stopped his steps, as the half-dragon’s tune changed at the mention of the pirate not being there. She went pass him and the other demon. Yume’s red eyes followed her around the hat body. The incubi turned only slightly as if to catch something out of the corner of his eye. She started to phase.
The bird man stopped her. Eyes narrowed. The words they spoke were not really important. No, words meant nothing if the actions behind them didn’t match. The half-dragon slumped in the second go when the bird man had both hands holding her.

Even when they were finished and the half-breed was pulled to her feet, something was off. Both creatures watched as she went over to the werewolf. Even her words had something…he didn’t know what. I don’t think she’ll admit it, but I think she really cares about that kitty boi. he thought with a mental laugh, I wonder if that’s the only thing that triggers this strange behavior of hers. A hiss from his hat made Ashley lift his eyes. The bird boy had taken to the sky. The jackal lady gave them a nod in that direction before disappearing. Hmm…

His wings didn’t move till he noticed the succubus taking wing. His own wings opened and neon membrane beat against the air as he followed. The demon was occupied with his own thoughts when his spurred feet touched down on the path where the others were. They’d got pretty high up…

Hehehe... so a Demon of lust. I guess I can be of service after all

Yume gave an audible hiss at the words. Ashley’s head jerked up at hearing that the sword wiggled from the hat’s tail. His mouth was a line, his thoughts a glare at the sword’s words. What was it talking about? The demon’s arms went up and there was an animalistic hiss from his maw as the sword shifted and merged with his own. The look in his eyes was one of pure hatred. Not like someone had just stolen a favorite toy, but that of someone whose hardest work had just been destroyed.

Brownoser...

He didn’t even notice the succubus move closer to him nor did he know what the word was for, he couldn’t. His mind was racing trying, trying desperately to…
His legs gave away and the demon fell to his knees. Ashley’s eyes were skyward, red starting to well in his eyes. His torso fell forward and there was another animal sound from him. Yume opened wings and flew off to land before him. Wings on the ground gave the hat a bat-like stance. The demon pounded a fist into the ground. Red drops falling from his eyes even though the lids were clenched shut.

The demon’s wings shoulders shuddered under his tears. There was a growl from the hat. He looked up at the creature, there were red trails down from his eyes, but his face didn’t match that of someone who had been shedding tears. His face was grim, his lips a line. Ashley’s hazel eyes were upturned; sad, disappointed, all hope lost…
A gloved hand came up wiping his face, ”It’s pointless,” he told the hat quietly, ”Even if Ashowan-san is the one, we can’t do anything now…”

The incubi sat back on his legs, though they were spread either side of him so his spurs were parallel to the ground rather then in his rear. A hand lifted going over his horns and through his teal hair, ”They win Yume. My life…” he said. His shoulders started to shake again, but not from tears. He started laughing, ”Guess it doesn’t matter…nothing really matters…” He locked eyes with the hat whom had to look away. After a moment both turned toward the spectral beings. Both creatures had their eyes narrow slits.

The demon smiled pushing himself up, ”Bring on the torches and pitchforks!” he shouted pumping an arm. His hands went to his belt, starting to undo the buckle. His hands and head just slumped rather then finish the job. The sword was worthless to him now, but perhaps he could pawn it later. The truth and idea hurt. Yume took to the air. Wings flapped to get the hat back on his head.
One of Ashley’s eyes twitched. He stepped after to follow suit, but his steps were almost sluggish. He stumbled over himself mumbling and laughing. The demon was really laughing more then he was mumbling. His arms swayed with his body, hanging almost limp at his sides. His tail had dropped between his legs, only curving enough to remain held above the ground. ”Hehehe…”

It was true enough that Siltharyn was unnerved by the situation at hand as Sheikka was. The Anubis-woman was also teetering on raised hackles. Claws fumbled and twitched anxiously on the wooden staff. Her nervous tick made the shrunken heads rattle: waver back and forth with mummified jaws hanging agape in an empty, terrified scream that would last for an eternity. Snorting, Sheikka's frown stretched thing over her features. Blazing crimson eyes glew slightly behind the guard of her skull helmet, narrowing in anticipation of a battle. For these two to be strife-ready was all quite amusing and not completely without reason, Ashowan thought bitterly. Judging from his barely curling smile, the reaper realized Valtiel felt the same.

"Well if they use sharp pointy objects, I've got sharp-pointy objects of my own," grumbled Siltharyn, her vocals low and ominous.

Sheikka's growl supported the she-wolf. "Yea, and 'dese shrunken skulls ain't jus' props," she hissed between clenched fangs.

Ashowan shook her head. Swiveling the scythe Juno offered her some time ago on her shoulder, she told them in a dreaded monotone, "Don't bother."

Sheikka appeared perplexed. Her shoulders loosened up and she blinked at the reaper, puzzled by her nonchalance. "But dey're ... "

"If they were going to attack," mused Valtiel without stopping or looking back, "they would have done so by now."

Ashowan's frown was echoed by Sheikka as she stared back at the Ethernians watching their every move, their every breath, their every twitch. "Those disguises are unnerving. How long have the Shadowfolk been here?" The last part came as a whisper only intended to be heard by Val and Sheikka. She held no doubt that Siltharyn would hear. The others, too. But it didn't matter.

"I was last here over four hundred years ago, just in time to witness a slaughter of mass proportions. Kuro sent the Shadowfolk to come and take whatever they could. They devoured the souls of the Ethernians and destroyed their bodies. Originally, they lurked the city and the rest of this planet as their shadowed selves. These particular Shadowfolk, as you can see, are far more advanced than their wraith-like counterparts that are constantly seen floating about Kuro's person. Centuries of isolation on this lonely world gave them time to grow, learn, and develop. Mimicry at its best, they adapted Ethernian molds. They appear as perfect replicas of the ghostly humanoids that once inhabited this place."

Sheikka whistled. Her anxiety was intensified. "So technically we're surrounded on all sides by da bogies. Ya never said why dey ain't attacking us, d'oh."

"They're on call."

"Eh?"

"They aren't here without reason. Kuro has some sort of goal for them to fulfill or he would have retracted them years ago. From the scrutiny we're currently under, I would say that he's having the Shadowfolk observe us." Ignoring Sheikka's shudder and Ashowan's suddenly bleak, exhausted look, he continued with, "They haven't blasted us outright, which indicates that Kuro isn't aiming for a confliction or confrontation. Not yet, at the very least. For now, and for as long as the Shadowfolk remain dormant like this, we are safe from harm."

"And when dey get angry ... ?"

"Us being what we are, that won't be a problem. Advanced or not, Shadowfolk are still Shadowfolk in the end. And we've dispatched a god number of them in the past. If anything, it'll just be a bit of a challenge." Ashowan's tone was vacant and bored.

Sheikka nodded, still terse but a little more lenient. She mocked Ashowan by hefting her staff onto her shoulder. Taking note of Entropy and Ashley's arrival, her ears swiveled towards Siltharyn when the she-wolf inquired, "So, where to now?"

"'Bout time somebody asked dat, wolfy," Sheikka mused with a toothy grin. "Yer da only one dat's asked much of anyt'ing, ya know? Dat's good."

"We're looking for somebody who isn't one of the disguised Shadowfolk. He's the only surviving Ethernian left on this world," Ashowan explained.

"He goes by da name o' Loor. Da people of dis placed dubbed him 'Da Inventor' some centuries ago cuz he was renowned for buildin' off da wall creations dat were beneficial in da end."

"He was honored as Ethernos' version of Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Edison. His machines saved thousands of lives and solved hundreds upon hundreds of problems, global and local."

"Loor lived alone but he had a daughter ... " She trailed off momentarily to stare at the back of Ashowan. The half-dragon's shoulders fell slack, her head sinking downwards as if in shame, guilt and/or sadness. "Da daughter is who we're lookin' for. She's ... important to us in more ways dan one."

"Loor," Ashowan said hoarsely, "is rumored to have been creating a new invention that tells the location of any person at any given time ... anywhere in the universe. Apparently he started his work after his ... daughter ... was kidnapped four hundred years ago, when the Shadowfolk took over Ethernos. Unfortunately this is also when he went into hiding, his own pain and misery being too much for him to bare in the public eye. Loor has since retreated to the depths of isolation. We don't even know if he's alive anymore."

"Ethernians have an unnaturally long lifespan," Valtiel responded, negating Ashowan's doubts. "He will simply appear just a little older than he did back then."

"But wit' all dese Shadowfolk around - we all know dey're species can't talk - we got no way of telling where da man is. Assuming he's still on dis planet, it's like da blind leadin' da blind."

"Nothing to worry about." Valtiel stretched his arm before him. The index finger pointed ahead and above. Following the digit, Ashowan and Sheikka looked up at a massive building with all sorts of crags, edifices, massive stained glass windows and arched ventilation locations heavily barred by some sort of glowing blue substance. Stone gargoyles perched upon the roof, dragon jaws agape as though they could swallow the world whole and not have a stomachache afterwards. It had to be over three, four stories high. The stone it was made of was pristine and gray with flecks of red brick here and there. Although old, it seemed as good as new. The disturbing thing was the amount of energy teeming from the spot: an endless oasis of spectral powers unlike anything ever witnessed. As the group approached, one would be able to see that it, like the rest of the houses around here, had no doors. And you couldn't get any closer than twenty feet, for you would be held back by some enigmatic force field.

Ashowan frowned at the latter discovery. She rose a hand, gently caressing the barrier splitting Loor's habitation place from the rest of the world. The corresponding electric and psychological shock forced her to retreat hastily. She cradled the injured hand in the other one, grimacing somewhat but clearly not hurt too much to yell out in pain. It wasn't just her hand that was sore, though. Touching the barrier was akin to getting struck by lightning - it went through the entire body instead of just whatever came in contact with it.

"We have to figure out a way to get past the barrier ... It's all magical but beyond my abilities."

"And mine."

"Apparently so for me, as well," Val nodded, but something about him gave the impression of lying.

Momentarily heightened senses and Ashowan caught the scent of something forlorn and unwelcome. Sheikka noticed it too. Together, they turned ... and their eyes were all for Ashley, crumpled in a heap on the ground. Anguished, the demonic angel was bleeding from his eyes.

Sheikka rushed forth even as the Incubus shoved to his feet with a pump-of-the-arm cry of, "Bring on the torches and pitchforks!" One eye twitching and laughter bursting from his throat, he stumbled past the she-Anubis - who was fumbling in her pouches for some sort of medicinal herb or powder - and the Succubus. Ashowan approached warily, that familiar feeling of distrust and caution scathing her like a new sword just molded from molten steel. She held out a gloved hand, and offering of support to keep him from keeling over despite the steeled glaze of her eyes and the firm set of her jaw. Concern was there, but rivaled by the need to be careful around this one. Ashley was only a vague friend to her and would forever remain so. But his nature and species had her on guard 100%. If he decided to overstep a boundary or two, the reaper would mercilessly make use of her metallic claws.

Somewhere within her mind was a deepened rumble of amusement. Originating from Valtiel was a cold stare. Wariness and dry comedy.

"Don't go cracking on us now, eh? We've already got enough psychos on this team." She nodded to Entropy, hoping that she'd catch the hint and help support Ashley in case he were to fall. Voice returning to solid, she continued with some worry, "Are you alright?"

"I've some medicine - hemostats, they clot blood flow - in here somewhere - AHA!" The Anubis-woman plucked a red and white capsule from her side and held it out for Ashley to take.

((Quite honestly, this post may seem rather powerful, but when Silth says that she needs the others to join in, it is meant quite literally. Silth isn't able to do what is written on her own, but she can give a means to an end. So I'm sorry if this seems kinda, strong, on Silth's part >>; but quite honestly she doesn't know exactly what she's doing. 'tis just a theory. Windra gave me the go-ahead so yeah ^_^; join in! and Hurry >>; or Silthy is gonna get zapped X3))

Siltharyn stood there, a new world, a new place before her very eyes. A light breeze passed through her fur as she looked onwards. She felt it ripple through her and for a moment she closed her eyes. Such simple a thing was the wind, that she appreciated it more then anything that she could ever see. Sight was wonderful, but the Sight of any creature could be fooled so easily, then touch, things that made everything seem real. Scents, touch, taste, sight could be fooled, but it was far more difficult to fool the other five senses.

Opening her eyes again, she heard the Jackal woman speak to her, or so it seemed, spoke towards her. Siltharyn tilted her head slightly sideways in acknowledgment. There was no way to really, truly describe how she felt at the moment. Confused was one, but otherwise?

Quietly did she listen to what was being said by Ashowan and the others. Shadows? Great. That was all she needed, but at least she knew she didn't need to fear. Looking down at the strange stone that dangled from around her neck, the Cloudstone, Siltharyn knew it would protect her from tainted shadows. But, what did that leave for the others? They would be left on their own, but Siltharyn didn't intend for that to happen. If it came down to it, maybe she could get their backs to a building and stand in front of them? Her mind wound itself around in circles as she thought. For a moment, she really didn't think of anything to say, until Sheikka turned towards her and mentioned that Siltharyn herself was the only one asking questions. Siltharyn shrugged and gave a non-commital answer. "Can't learn nothing if you don't ask the question first." She said quietly, not looking at anyone as she did. Instead she continued to look forward. What was that crackling energy she felt?

As things were being explained, Siltharyn kept quiet and allowed everyone to speak before she heared Val. She looked up at the huge building and watched as Ashowan moved forward only to be, what? Shocked? Burnt? Possibly a combination of both? Looking at the Reaper with concern, Siltharyn looked up at the building and closed her eyes. Keeping them closed, she pulled up what she knew about magical barriers and the magic, or possibly the energy, involved in it. Opening her eyes, she looked not onto a world of the physical, but onto a world made up of energy. The creatures that were walking around were highstrung with reds, blacks, and browns. Not a good thing. Those were dark colors. Colors that meant energy was corrupted, 'evil'. Looking around, Siltharyn saw something similar in Val, but that didn't make sense did it? Maybe his motives, his ways to go about doing something were not as pure as Siltharyn would have thought, but they couldn't be evil. Could they? She shook her head. He didn't have the same colors as the creatures that were here in mass quantities. But the dark azure color, along with slight flickers of gold and maroon gave her a bit of an edge. Not quite the same, but there was a cunning there. There had to be. She didn't know what all the colors within the energy spectrum meant. She just knew the basic bad/good ones. Not the ones that were in-between. She hadn't studied long enough, and part of her was quite glad that she hadn't. Looking at Ashowan however, Siltharyn was shocked to find darker colored energy within her as well. There wasn't much, but it was there.

Closing her eyes and shaking her head, afraid to look at the others, she muttered something quietly. "Not entirely for me, but I cannot do it alone. I'm not so good with magic, but I can outline a barrier of my own, then if we force a power surge into the shield it could collapse. The spectral radiation coming off of it depicts strong magic, but it's at it's limit already. If anyone could see what I just saw, the fact that the lines of energy feeding into it's form, they're a brilliant white. This means, that while the barrier is strong and no one can really get past it, it just needs a big enough jolt to collapse it. Or so, that's my theory anyway." Siltharyn kept her voice down and her head lowered. She didn't like to repeat knowledge she had gained from a dark source, even if at one time she believed that source to be her father, or her mentor, or her advisor in magics.

Slowly, Siltharyn took a step forward and began to walk around the width of the barrier, the strange creature that had started bleeding was being cared for by the others, she didn't want to get in the way. The first time, she just figured out where it lay. As she moved however, she moved into the crowds of creatures that had been giving them dark glares. As Siltharyn approached, they couldn't get within an arm and a half's length of her. If they were accidentally close, they would almost be slightly pushed aside, not like it was a solid barrier, but something that kept the creatures from even brushing Siltharyn's fur with their ghostly forms. The second go, Siltharyn had a clear path, the creatures did not come near her as she whispered. Whispered and whispered to the ground. Her eyes focused and intent, never once blinking. Three times she went around, whispering, whispering. The fourth time, her vocals got lower, whispering turned into just barely a breath of air. Fifth time, her words were just lipped and she moved into the circle as the symbols began to glow and placed a paw on one. She closed her eyes focusing. Her sides began to heave shortly however the energy required to overload this thing was beyond her, but the ability was there... maybe....

"I-I can't do it alone I'm just not strong enough with my magic." Truth be told, she was better with her healing, magic stumped her save for the slight amount she knew. Siltharyn's healing was not actually magic, but natural. "We need to, to get more energy running through the system!" Siltharyn began to shake. There was no light, there was nothing major save for the soft glow of the symbols circling the thing, but there were whisps of energy running up and down the length of one of her legs as she suddenly lay down. Her ears laying back against her head as she panted. It was sucking the energy right out of her!

"Find a symbol that strikes you, and I mean really strikes you as something you can identify with! You don't have to know just feel. Hurry before the time runs out! I can only hold the circle here for so long! You all have to do it, I'm just a conduit of sorts." It was true, Siltharyn would direct how the flow of magic and energy would go, but she couldn't actually use any of her own. It was complicated. So complicated that Siltharyn didn't entirely know what she was doing. She knew the runes could be used, the ancient language, but there was no way for her to know if it would work. At best if this failed, they'd all be tired and have to continue on, at worst? Siltharyn herself, as the conduit, would be shocked so badly, she'd need to rest for a week. Thankfully the others would be alright, even if Siltharyn herself wouldn't be alright.

((Uhm, to keep this simple XD there's no point in overly describing the symbols :p they're never the same twice in a row most of the time, so just fly with it XD))

That's it... give me your rage... give me your dispair... The sword cooed calmly. While the symbols did their work, flashing about the blade with an errie neon red. Jing's blade began to glow with the same corrupt aura that emenated from the many around them.

Give me your desire of hatred, your frusteration, your confusion.... Give me your madness... and your lose of hope... Give me your Wraith!

Then something really intresting happened, the sword was let lose and in a blazing red flash it flew about three feet to the right of Slitharyn. Looking quite different from a simple blade.

It was about 6 feet long and broad, sitting upon three spiky tendrils that acted like tripod. It's tip was pointed in the direction of the gigantic white shield.

Now the blade was oval, with several jagged points that went about it and into the guard, only to revolve about the inside and out again in a continues circuit of black thorns with gold edges. This revolved around the large purple broadside studded with red rubies, and gave a large metallic whirl, like that of chainsaw starting up.

What it was casing out was exactly a magical version of that. In the energy specturm there was a large row of corrupt teeth, biting and sawing away at the sheild, cutting through it as if it was an eceptionally thick log.

The pistol only wiggled about from it's resting place, begging to be used by it's current master.

The discussion of Shadowfolk and Kuro had Entropy lost, but she still tried to catch as much of it as she could. It did seem to be of importance, both immediate and long-term. She had a few questions she wanted to ask, but she kept them to herself, expecting that she wouldn't receive any answers.

Entropy's attention was eventually drawn to Jing by his cry of "Bring on the pitchforks!" At first Entropy grinned at him, thinking he was just ready for a fight. But that grin faded as she realized that the demon was upset. Desperately upset, though he was laughing.

"Don't go cracking on us now, eh? We've already got enough psychos on this team." Ashowan nodded to Entropy as she spoke.

For a moment, Entropy took that the wrong way. She stared blankly at the reaper, feeling stung. There was an element of truth to what Ashowan had said, Entropy was aware. Entropy was getting on in years, even if she wasn't aging physically. And she found the implications of that to be disconcerting.

Then Entropy started to feel silly. Sho couldn't have meant any harm. She was Entropy's friend, right? The succubus offered a slight laugh, trying to make it look like the comment hadn't bothered her. Then she moved closer to Jing, ready to catch the incubus if he fell.

At that moment, the werewolf, Siltharyn, spoke and asked everyone to find a symbol that they could identify with. Meanwhile, the six-shooter Juno had given Entropy seemed to be itching for some use. Half-thoughtlessly, Entropy raised it up and looked it over, feeling a bit sorry that there were no hostiles at the moment to fire it at. The ghostly creatures lingering about might eventually wind up filling that role, Entropy expected, but she didn't want to set them off with an unprovoked attack.

But Entropy did have another use for the gun, she suddenly realized.

"I think this should work," Entropy said, presenting the weapon, or at least the decorations on the weapon, as her symbol.

Nice demonic decorations. And with Entropy being a demoness... well it was the obvious choice, wasn't it?

"And there it is," she said, stepping up and placing her hand on a symbol in the circle that looked quite a bit like the decorations on the gun.

Then Entropy noticed the sword that had landed near Siltharyn, transforming, and realized that she had been too wrapped up in thinking about her pistol to notice the sword flying away from its owner. She glanced up to make sure the werewolf hadn't been struck by the blade. Then she looked back down and watched the sword, not sure what to make of it.

But slowly her attention went back to the pistol. That was what she needed to be focusing on for Siltharyn's magic anyway, she reasoned.

Yume listened while Ashley grieved. The hat knew what the sword meant to him and now tainted it was worthless to his cause. They were looking for the last of his kind. Some male whose daughter had been lost or stolen. Loor? Well either way the reaper found there was a barrier keeping them from going. From looks of it was a very mean barrier as the reaper came away holding her hand. It was beyond their power or so they said.

The half-dragon came near as he passed the jackal. She offered him a hand. He breathed red going down his face still but he didn’t show anything. He took her hand lightly, not rubbing it. Just took it and bowed his head.

"Don't go cracking on us now, eh? We've already got enough psychos on this team." "Are you alright?"

The demon blew a breath, ”I know you don’t think highly of me Ashowan-san,” he told lifting his eyes, ”But please if I die when we get back to Deep Forest before ever saying anything, it has been my pleasure to know you.” He moved to look at the Anubis, ”You too my friend even though I don’t know you. Anyone who was willing to play games with me is a pleasure.” He waved off the pill, ”Wouldn’t work.”

A brow lifted to the succubus before she moved, ”You too Entropy, good to know you had my back.” Yume huffed on his head.

That's it... give me your rage... give me your dispair...

Neither creature paid him mind.

Give me your desire of hatred, your frusteration, your confusion.... Give me your madness... and your lose of hope... Give me your Wraith!

They sighed, the incubus moving as the sword tore away from him. He breathed putting weight on one leg. Both hat and wear watched the thing shift to go after the barrier that the wolf was working on. His arms crossed, ”No magic here,” he said, ”That gift I was given just took everything that could be. Yume will have to help.” He shrugged and the hat looked down on him, ”Yeah go ahead, find a symbol or whatever the wolf girl said.”

The hat took off his horned head. Red drops fell on his body and the ground, ”Yume, make sure that damn demon is on speaker from now on. If it wants to talk it can talk to everyone.”

Watching Entropy as she moved to Jing's side in case the Incubus decided to pitch forward and fall flat on his face, Ashowan realized a bit too late that she may have offhandedly offended the Succubus. Before she could retract her words with an apology, however, Ashley a.k.a. Jing made a grab for her hand, holding it tight. The reaper responded by jerking back on instinct, but steadied and gave a grim nod in turn. Truth be told, she hadn't expect him to accept her support and wasn't sure she was glad that he did. The evidence made it clear that he was in either great pain or great despair. That tore at her heart and Ashowan, casting aside any indifference and tossing wayward caution to the wind, however briefly, pulled the winged man to his feet if he were teetering over.

"I know you don't think highly of me Ashowan-san," mumbled he, lifting his eyes, "but please if I die before we gte back to Deep Forest before every saying anything, it has been my pleasure to know you." Eyes narrowing - not suspicion, but deepening concern, grave worry. To Sheikka, Jing added, "You too my friend even though I don't know you. Anyone who was willing to play games with me was a pleasure." Sheikka blinked when he waved a dismissive hand at the hemostat. "Wouldn't work."

"Ahh?" whispered the Anubiwoman as she pocketed the pill. A confused glance in Ashowan's direction marked how dire Jing's situation was. For the moment she stood helpless on the sidelines, watching in a growing sense of perplexed fear. Val simply shrugged his shoulders. Feigning a worried glimmer to his pallor-tinted eyes, the dark angel looked as convincing as a tall midget. Wings shifted 'pon his back to find a more comfortable position.

"You too Entropy, good to know you had my back."

The hat huffed on his head. Ashowan opened her jaws to speak, but found herself distracted yet again. Siltharyn was speaking. She appeared more haggard than ever, as though the mere thought of performing an act beat her down into a bloodied pulp. Or so, that's my theory anyway."

For all his quiet calm, Val actually frowned. It vanished with a passing wisp of wind and was never to be seen again. Sheikka looked between Jing, Ashowan, Entropy, the invisible electro-shock barrier, and the wolfess, not quite sure who she should be more concerned with while the reaper blinked hard at the one she'd dubbed friend a long time ago. What was Siltharyn up to? They were about to find out. Pacing back and forth, round and round, Siltharyn circled the perimeter of Loor's housing quarters. Words flew from her breath, hardly audible at first and growing nos stronger with each passing. Rather, they seemed to melt in her throat and die there, becoming fainter than vocalizations and running more along the lines of lipped thoughts never made material. Ashowan shuddered, the light energy radiating from her body becoming nearly tangible ... and distracting as well as repelling. The Shadowfolk were making certain to keep a distance from the area around Siltharyn and now the barrier. It as like whatever force she was preparing, whatever magic she was using, was a horrible enemy meant to be avoided at all costs. All thanks to that stone Siltharyn was in possession of. Somewhere inside her, a voice began to laugh - dismal and mental, unheard by all except the Reaper herself. Kuro was amused. Amused at Silth's attempts. Amused at her success. And amused at the drama unfolding ... as well as what was about to unfold.

Upon her fifth revolution of the mansion-ish house, Siltharyn pressed a paw against one of the many symbols floating about. Ashowan didn't get a chance to see the marking before the wolfess' furred claws covered it, but she did sense the expense of energy. It was obvious. No sooner did her skin come in contact with the tattoo-on-wall did Siltharyn collapse in a heap, breathing heavily. Labored. Exhausted. She was being drained from the internals to the externals, all sense of life-giving soul spirit magic being yanked from every fiber of her being to be fed into whatever spell she was concocting. If it was strong enough to weaken Silth to such a state ... Hell, she could die! Still holding onto Jing's five digits, Ashowan stepped forward, inadvertently dragging the Incubus along for the ride.

"Silth-"

"I-I can't do it alone I'm just not strong enough with my magic. We need to, to get more energy running through the system!" Panting and shaking, Ashowan wondered what kept Siltharyn from passing out. To be able to handle that ... she really is strong. Something was different about her now. "Find a symbol that strikes you, and I mean really strikes you as something you can identify with! You don't have to know just feel. Hurry before the time runs out! I can only hold the circle here for so long! You all have to do it, I'm just a conduit of sorts."

"I think this should work," Entropy said after closer observation of Thorn. She touched a symbol resembling those emblazoned across the flintlock. "And there it is."

Fwoop!

Ashowan barely had time to register the transformation of Jing/Juno's sword of darkness. It flew from the Incubus and pummeled straight through Siltharyn's 'wall' of symbolized words, where it penetrated the invisible barrier coating Loor's home. Here it began to saw through the force field, but would it work? Each cut it made was recovered with tendons of arching bolts of lightning that went on to zap the blade with all the power they had. For all its strength and undeniable prowess, the sword simply wouldn't be able to get through alone. Perhaps with the aide of Siltharyn's abilities ...

Crossing his arms and leaning onto one leg for support, Jing noted, "No magic here. That gift I was given just took everything that could be. Yume will have to help." His cowboy hat peered down with glowing red eyes. "Yeah go ahead, find a symbol or whatever the wolf girl said."

It took off to the wall. Ashowan didn't bother looking to see if it picked a mark or not. She instead nodded to Valtiel and Sheikka who responded with gestures of their own. Sheikka stalked to the opposite side where her crimson orbs locked on a particular swaying detail. She "Ooooh"-ed and pressed it, allowing her energy to flow into the word wall.

"Hope dis works."

Val made no sound. He strode past them all, footfalls silent to present him as a ghostly apparition that was very real. Crooked fingers stretching, he wordlessly tapped a darker symbol close to Siltharyn - right next to her, actually, and just above her skull.

Ashowan maneuvered to Jing's side, still graping his hand. She pulled his free arm across her shoulders and hooked one of her own around his waist, forcing him to lean on her for support. There was no way she'd allow him to travel on his own in that state. "I'm sorry," she whispered to him, and her words were sincere. Sluggishly she stepped up to the plate, keeping her pace slow so that the Incubus wouldn't struggle keeping up. "It was wrong of me to prejudge you based upon your species. As an Incubus, I must say I expected the worst. I've had dealings with creatures driven by lust" - she thought of Mono grabbing what he shouldn't have and earning a lump on his skull - "and have since learned to be on guard." It wasn't a total lie. Honestly, though, she'd been very highly guarded of herself for centuries, never letting anybody get too close. Her voice sank and she frowned, seriousness prominent. "Hang in there. We should be entering Loor's home shortly and there you'll be able to recover. I won't let you die here." She grinned askance. "That's a promise."

Nodding to herself as though making a resolve, Ashowan finally slid up to Siltharyn's magical wall of glowing letters. She stared at them for a very long time, not really sure what she was looking for. How would she knew what was her's and if it would work - ah there! One in particular caught and captivated her. Emerald oculi refusing to let go, the reaper stretched out all five fingers clad in cut leather and coated with Jing's exposed blood. The tips pressed softly against a symbol that echoed everything she felt; bound to her soul, and cried in her heart - one of pain, of misery, of vengeance and the greatest damned desire in the world.

The desire to be free.

If it were only that simple.

Sometimes, one would wish that things were not quite as complicated as they actually were. These were Siltharyn's thoughts as one by one their group chose a symbol to spread their energy or magic into. All except the one wearing the hat, but evidently the hat was quite able to take care of that. That was where that strange mixture of scents was coming from when it came to the strange creature. The hat itself was alive! And it did have a little more of a distinctive scent now (with what little wind blowed it's scent towards Siltharyn). Yet that isn't what caught her attention as the others chose their place. She kept her eyes on Ashowan... and Val. One thing that she was glad about these symbols, one reason she explained that it had to feel correct, was that they helped to show the essence of a person. However, it was an arcane art form. But it was the best thing she could think of.

The particular symbols were chosen, and the energy started to move through the shield. Siltharyn, waiting for something to happen (with no clue as to what that would be) pondered over what was going on. There were some things that just didn't sit right. The way Ashowan reacted, the way that the other two moved around her. They were suspecting trouble and Ashowan's willingness to protect her friend at all cost worried Siltharyn. She knew everything about that, for she would also do anything to protect the ones she called friends.

There's really not much anyone can do at the moment I'm afraid. Thought the white Healer, looking obviously thoughtful, though her eyes only looked upwards, as if she were thinking about the shield. Unless Ashowan tells us something, we're as much in the dark as, well, I don't think now is the best time for a pun. Siltharyn shook her head and then moved her attention to the symbol under her paw. Five minutes passed, ten minutes, and yet nothing dramatic happened. Siltharyn began to get worried, did they use up their energy or magic for nothing? Fifteen minutes passed and Siltharyn finally pulled her paw away, breaking the spell. Looking up, it didn't really seem as if anything happened.

"Well, that's unusual." She said quietly, walking back and forth on the edge of the shield. "Very unusual." Slowly, Siltharyn walked up to the barrier and pressed her nose against it. For a split second it was as if she had gotten into a lot of static. Her fur puffed up on end slightly, but then she pushed further, and walked right through the barrier. Standing on the other side, Siltharyn had a very perplexed look on her face. "That doesn't make sense, it should have overloaded the master spell. Or whatever the equivalent is on this plain. Unless the basis of the spell is subject to change, able to adapt and react to whatever is going on around it... either way..." She turned around and nodded to the others. "The shield didn't fall as I thought it would, but it did make it safe for us to pass." She looked over at Jing/Ashely (though she didn't know his name) and nodded. "Your hat did that for you, I'm not sure how, but it'll work just fine." Siltharyn looked around, utterly perplexed. Whoever is up there, either he knows how to work a shield spell to a T. Or, or we may have a very powerful magic user on our hands... and if that's the case... Siltharyn shivered, but hid it under a shake as she ruffled her fur, trying to get rid of the left-over static electricity. She was tired. Aching and sore. Trying magic and using up more energy then one had wasn't safe at all. But Siltharyn was willing to do it for Ashowan. Siltharyn took a few steps foreword with a pronounced limp, but said nothing. Her body would take care of itself.

"Someone else's turn now. I can't exactly sprout wings and fly us all up there." She said with a slight smile and a single movement of her tail. Inside she trembled from the lack of energy. She needed a good nap.

((garghednessomgwtfbbq... crap post after waiting for so long >.<; sorry guys :/ I've been kinda obsessive with an art piece of the late that's already taken up 19 hours of my time ^_^; I=sorry and you may go ahead and slap me with a dead herring if you feel like it, and uh, does anyone wanna help Silth figure out wtf happened? XD She's confuuused. The energy stuff, she gets, it's the magic part that makes no sense to her.))

Rage, hatred... anger...fear... It's all here... The sword murmered as it kept eating away at he magic barrier... but still it's not enough... I need more power... I need a stronger source...

As if it had made up it's mind the sword few back and with a "patooie" sound dropped the weapon it was bonded two with a clatter infront of Jing's feet.

Be right back, master. It replied as the markings flew off into the sea of shadowfolk. The demon blade eventually landing in the palm of one of the mock Etherians.

As soon as it touched, one of it's brightly colored eyes begain to flutter, blinking as if it was disturbed from a sleep... but then it calmed back down and continued to walk, glazed over as if it was in a trance. The character "Sloth" glowing brightly upon the blade.

It brushed past Jing, giving a slight nod of the head before walking back to it's previous position by Silth. Ohhh I got a good one, this one is already lost... so there's plenty of wraith... a little pride... an abundance of sloth...an a whole lotta envy...

Small red bits of lightning began to crackle around the blade channeling upwards, where it shot off in a rampant charge to smash the shield to smithereens... However it only succeeded in weakening the gigantic obstical.

More... I need more...

More movement from the sleeping shadowfolk, all of them making a bumbeling scramble for the blade, placing their hands upon the grip, and adding more and more combined power. The magical bolt of fury just buidding up and crackling against the sheild. It contained what little remained of their sanity. Within that blast of power contained their rage, their anger, their sorrow and their depression.

It was with this last burst of energy that the sheild began to show signs of weakening, a small crack had begun to form....

That's it, spill it all out! Concentrate all your fury and let it go, pour all of it and channel it into one almighty blast!

The pistol, fed up began to tilt from it's holister and fired at the shield as well, without command... and hit the crack, where a sickening crunch emenated from the shield... there was now a small penetration.

((Entropy could probably help Siltharyn out with that if she asks.))

”You too Entropy, good to know you had my back.”

Entropy gave Jing a somber half-smile. But, like Ashowan, she was distracted by Siltharyn's words before she could respond.

After selecting her symbol, Entropy watched the wolf and the shield intently. Though she didn't know how this spell was supposed to work, she hoped she would be able to tell if anything was going terribly wrong.

The succubus felt the urge to pull away from the symbol when she felt her energy flowing into it. To the fae demoness, magical energy was as important as her own blood. Losing too much would be dangerous, more so than for most creatures. Her spirit was connected to the greater stream of magic that flowed through the universe itself. If she lost too much of her own energy, she would be exposed fully to this stream, and its effect on her could be potentially lethal. But she didn't pull away, knowing that this shield would have to be penetrated for Ashowan's quest to continue.

As time passed, Entropy started to feel weak. After two minutes, she was sweating. After five minutes, she was struggling to remain standing.

About eight minutes in, she began to doubt that she was going to be able to endure the whole spell. If her own energy wasn't going to be enough, then, she would have to improvise. Closing her eyes, she tried to picture the flow of energy from herself to the shield. At the same time, she pictured the universal stream of energy as it flowed through her. Reaching out towards this image - to everyone else it would have looked like she was reaching out into thin air - she tried to push the two flows together.

This proved difficult. Moving them actually took a great deal of physical strength, more so for the universal stream than her own. Once the two intersected, Entropy yelped and her body jolted as if she had been hit with an electric shock. But once the discomfort passed, Entropy felt a great sense of relief, as the drain on herself was cut off, the energy flowing directly from the universal stream into the symbol.

For the next few seconds, Entropy watched Siltharyn, ready to undo what she had just done if it seemed to be resulting in any discomfort for the healer. Fortunately, the symbol, as Entropy had expected, was enough of a barrier against the energy stream that Siltharyn wasn't affected by the change and probably wouldn't even notice it.

Once the spell ended, Entropy was jolted again as the energy stream snapped back to its original position. She shrugged it off, though, and stepped through the shield as Siltharyn had. Then her pistol suddenly fired, causing the succubus to jump.

Entropy looked down at the gun, then at the hole it had made.

"You know, I'm really not sure if we should go ahead and destroy this thing," she said to the weapon, loudly enough that the sword should have been able to hear too. "Now that we can get through, we might want to keep it around for later. Just in case, you know, we wind up wanting to have it between ourselves and something else."

"Someone else's turn now. I can't exactly sprout wings and fly us all up there."

Entropy had wings, but she thought it would be safer to let Ashowan teleport the non-flyers to there destination.

And on that thought...

"Hey, Sho?" Entropy asked. "Wouldn't it have been easier if you had just teleported us through that shield?"
