"You'd have to for me to do this...."

Zero tensed up and gave his full attention to Simi as she said this. What's she gonna do, he wondered. She stepped backwards and there was a flare in her eyes. Obviously she was prepared for something...exciting. But what?

Simi kneeled down, hid her head away, and closed her eyes. Zero blinked curiously and continued to watch, paws folded neatly behind him. He did not make a sound - whatever she was planning to do, it may have necessitated absolute peace and quiet, and if this were the case, he respected it fully.

And then, it began to happen. Right before his eyes, she started to change. It wasn't subtle, but it was graceful. Her legs...previously they had a Unicorn's coat, but now they were sprouting feathers, and soon they weren't even legs anymore. They were wings! It didn't take long before the whole transformation was complete, and what stood before him was no longer a beautiful, majestic Unicorn...but a gorgeous, graceful Phoenix. Two mystical creatures Zero had known of, but never felt he'd ever have the chance to see. Now...he'd seen both, in the same day, and what was more, he was actually talking to this one. It blew him away.

When she opened her eyes, and spoke to him, he couldn't do anything. His arms hung limply at his sides, his eyes were eide open, and he was slackjawed.

Holy...holy cow...

After a few moments, he gained the composure to speak.

"Wh...what do I think? I think...you probably authored the book on '20 Different Ways to be Absolutely Stunning"...yer...yer...wow."

He approached her, wobbly on his feet. When he was close enough, he slowly reached out a paw, but stopped short of her. His gaze was upon her, and although he said nothing, it was clear he wanted to touch her feathers, but would not do so unless given permission.

Even in a place like this, so desolate, dead, and defiant to life...look what can be found.

Simi found that Zero's eyes were wide, and his jaw was gaping.

"Wh...what do I think? I think...you probably authored the book on '20 Different Ways to be Absolutely Stunning'...yer...yer...wow."

The pheonix ducked her head, flattered and embarrased by Zero's reaction. He was, after all, the first one in her life that she had shown this trick as show. It was treated as a rather un-extraordinary thing where she was from, considering everyone had that kind of talent, but here she'd done it only aiming to entertain him and he thought her... amazing.

Her, amazing. She was at a loss for words...

Zero then started walking towards her in an awkward way, struggling a little to keep balance. When close enough, he reached out his paw, and at the action Simi pulled her head back a little, startled. Zero's paw stopped midway respectively.

At this she silently scolded herself. This was no human being, no one who would cause any harm to her. So, with that said, she put out her right wing freely.

"It's alright, you can touch it."

Zero pulled his paw back and looked nothing short of horrified when his reach had startled Simi. He was about to go on a rant of apology to her for even having considered touching such a magnificent form. However, she stuck out her wing and spoke to him.

"It's alright, you can touch it."

At this, he took a deep breath and slowly reached out his paw again. As his fingers came in contact with the feathers, he stopped for a moment.

You're lucky. How many people get the opportunity to speak to a creature like this? Let alone even see them. Touch them? Absurd, it just doesn't happen.

His eyes closed and he pressed on with his paw, allowing it to nestle into the feathers. They were soft, and while they may or may not have been warm in regards to physical temperature, touching them nevertheless filled Zero with much warmth. He wondered what he had done to be worthy to see this Phoenix form.

You need to remember this. You may not get the chance to do it again.

The world around him sunk away as he focused on the feeling of it, and started to open up his aura. His body was surrounded by a soft pink glow that pulsated gently every now and then. The glow was much more apparent where he was touching Simi's feathers. He was exposing his life force, something normally done to manifest explosive blasts of energy. However, it served a different purpose here. Concentrating his aura into his paw allowed him to fully immerse himself in the experience. It was a trance, you could say, and for that time, the world around him was set aside. It gave him peace, and was a reminder to him of how amazing life could be. During this time, it was not only his physical paw touching her, but his essential soul as well. He did not know what it meant for her to transform in front of him like this - wether it was something she held sacred or a common gesture to those she met. But regardless of that, he valued it. It deserved respect and inspired him with awe.

His paw slid across her wing matching the flow of the feathers, not against them, lifted off and repeated the gesture a few times. His touch was gentle and reverent, and he made sure not to disturb or ruffle the natural emplacement of any single feather.

I will not forget.

He opened his eyes and it could be seen his pupils were glowing pink. Slowly the effect faded away, and he drew his paw away from her. He inhaled deeply and exhaled softly a final time, before smiling at her. His eyes lingered with appreciation and wonderment.

"Thank you. Thank you very much. "

Simi watched calmly as Zero's paw finally touched her wing, nestling it into the feathers that decorated it. He closed his blue eyes slowly, and as he did so he seemed to just.... get lost.

The first time that she saw a flash of pink, the blue pheonix blinked her eyes to make sure that her vision was still alright. But as she continued to look on, she realized that Zero indeed had a faint, pink glow coming from him. This surprised her a little, but she didn't feel any fearful instinct and felt no need to move away. However, she did want to know what it meant..... Why is he glowing...? Is this how he shows joy? No, of course not. If it was then the glow would have shown itself ages ago. The blue pheonix pondered over this new, previously unknown trick of Zero's. As the black cat continued to stroke her feathers, Simi noticed that the pink glow grew stronger whenever his paw came into contact with her.

And then something else was felt, something that made Simi's beak gape a little, though she didn't make any noise. There was something new in Zero's touch that felt like something that could rarely be felt by anyone. It was like the essence of the cat was touching her as well, and the thought of it made her blink in wonder. Simi had never had such a connection with anyone, and it was strange...

Zero's paw then slid across the wing in the direction of her feathers, and by the time he reached the end he repeated the gesture again. He did this for a few more times, and Simi couldn't help but to blink slowly. The touch was gentle and it felt good against her wing.

The black cat opened his eyes suddenly, and as she looked up she saw that his pupils, originally soft blue, were now a glowing pink. However, the effect soon faded away, and as Zero drew his paw back he breathed deeply, finally smiling at her with a grateful expression.

"Thank you. Thank you very much."

Simi slowly pulled her wing back against her, suddenly feeling a little shy. This experience meant something to Zero, more than she thought it could mean to anyone. He thought that she was.... special. Not for the value of her horn, and not because he was family- for all family has the impression that everyone related to them is special-, but because he had gotten to meet her, and to connect with her. Though, what really made her feel anything negative about this at all was that she didn't know what to say, and she hated being at a loss for words.

Zero merely stared at Simi for a time, admiring her striking form. Fascination and peace lingered on within him, and although he could tell she was at a loss for words, he provided none of his own until a few minutes had passed. He folded his paws behind his back again, and closed his eyes, as he began to speak.

"I dunno, for certain, what it means to you to transform in front of me. But...it was wonderful."

At that moment, he felt inspired. Although he could not repay Simi with the same kind of fascination that she had provided him, he could still do something, even if it were to only entertain her. He unclasped his paws and stretched his arms to the sides, loosening up his muscles by shaking them about.

"I'm about to do somethin, it may seem strange. Please dun be worried or afraid...please watch."

He did not wait for a response from her, although if she ended up displaying any kind of fear or negative reaction he would stop immediately. The kind of inspiration he had would potentially fade, and so he had to act upon it. He moved to the front of Simi, but backed up so there was plenty of ground between the two.

Zero came to rest both paws over his chest, where his heart would have been. He closed his eyes and entered into a state of concentration, as the pink glow from before returned to his body. Slowly he lifted his paws away from his heart, and as he did, threads of pink energy were circulating from his chest, into his palms, and back through again in a continuous stream. As his paws drew further and further away from his chest, the flow of energies intensified, and the veins of his circulatory system were highlighted, visible through shirt and furr, by neon pink streams. The energy moved from all extremities towards his heart, and were drawn out by his paws.

Soon his circulatory highlight faded away, but his eyes were now completely obscured by a powerful pink glow, and his paws were shaped around a small nebulae of pink, floating, fog-like energy. He gazed intently upon the mass, and willed it to float out of his paws. As it traveled towards the ground, the snow around it was not melted, but actually pushed away, which resulted in a moderate clearing in which the spherical nebulae settled. Once it got into place, Zero shut his eyes and gritted his teeth, pink streaks of electricity crackling about his body. He required an enormous amount of concentration to do what came next.

The Nebulae contracted into a tiny compressed sphere of pink, before opaque outlines began to trail from it. These outlines traveled away from the orb, curved about and intertwined, as if a painter's brush drawing paint upon a canvas. Soon it formed the outline of a creature resembling a horse, but additional lines formed a horn upon it's head. The figure was maybe 1/3rd the size of Simi's Unicorn form.

"Diddun...ferget...you are...not...horse..."

He would have giggled, but maintaining the energy required too much effort; thusly, he returned to his concentration. The outline was quickly filled in by misty energy, much like the nebulae of before, giving the figure substance. Although it was composed completely in shades of pink and reds, he attempted to match it to Simi's color scheme. The eyes were a dark red to mimic her deep violet.

Zero slowly raised his paws, and spread his arms out as an orchestral conductor would do. With movement of his hands he now directed his energy to life, guided not by talent but inspiration alone. Such was the very core of his potential to become stronger, but here he put it to an entirely different use.

The Unicorn figure shook it's head from side to side, it's vibrant mane flowing with it as bright threads of energy. Zero swished his paws into the air, and the Unicorn reared up on two legs, kicking it's front legs in the air for a few moments before it settled back down onto it's hooves. He swished his paws into the air again, but this time spread them further apart with a flick of the wrist. In one fluid motion, the Unicorn reared again as it's front legs receded into it's body and exploded outward as a feathery wingspread, and it's muzzle dissolved away, shrouding it's face for a moment in mist before it revealed a beak and the magnificently feathered head of a phoenix to join it.

Zero continued his instructional motions and the phoenix readied itself, before it took off into the air with a winged display, two mighty flaps where it dropped low but ascended higher each time. At it's apex, the Phoenix maintained altitude by intermittent wing flaps. The figured craned it's head, first to peer at Zero but then to Simi.

"Now...Flourish."

As Zero spoke this, the Phoenix threw it's head back and opened it's wingspan entirely and unleashed a pink shockwave nova from itself that expanded outward in all directions. As it expanded, streaks of fiery pink energy shot down from it, and upon landing in the ground, exploded upwards as depictions of tall grass, flowers, trees, and varying animals. The scene lingered for a time, the Phoenix holding it's flourish in midair and the life it had created prospering. And then, as he could hold it no longer, all of the form created by the energy, including the Phoenix shattered into diamond dust, which hovered in the air around Zero and Simi as a sparkling fog.

The glow in Zero's eyes faded quickly, as did his aura, and he slumped lightly to the side. He panted heavily, but he smiled as well, and looked onto Simi.

"I...I hope I did not...startle you."

OOC: Thank you soooooo much, Foxdragon!!! I'm glad that Simi was able to prove herself worthy :D But I really enjoyed this roleplay, so would it be ok if I still replied to Zero’s last post? It was just so cool, and I wanted to respond to it. Also, now that she's allowed into the forest, I'd like for her to just get some food for Zero as well.

Wow... it took me a while to see how to respond to that. 0_o

"I'm about to do somethin, it may seem strange. Please dun be worried or afraid...please watch."

At this the phoenix blinked a little in wonder, but as she was about to say, "I won't be afraid," the black cat moved to the front of her, but backed up so that there was plenty of space between them. Simi eyed Zero with anticipation.

He then rested both paws over his chest, closing his eyes.... and then, ever so gently, the pink glow that Simi thought had vanished was back again, soft and steady, but still just as amazing. Now the phoenix was standing upright, her head elevated and her eyes glued to the scene. What is he going to do...?

Zero suddenly drew his paws away from his body, and as he did so threads of pink energy followed them, brushing his palms and then circulating back to his chest, then back to his hands in a flowing motion. Simi’s eyes widened, and she took a small step closer, extending her neck slowly, as if the movement would scare this energy away if done carelessly.

As the paws grew farther away, the energy increased, and for a moment the blue phoenix could see his whole circulatory system, glowing that powerful pink glow that seemed like it could melt anything away. In fact, it seemed to do just that once it became a soft, foggy sphere that Zero started to gently set down by his own will onto the ground. What appeared as melting snow was actually the snow being pushed away, forming a perfect, bare circle around the pink ball. It landed on the ground, and Zero shut his eyes, gritting his teeth as pink streaks crackled around his body. Simi stepped back, opening her wings a little, but she her amazement outweighed her faint wariness and she didn’t dare to run off. She wanted to see the rest of this. Dun be worried or afraid, he had said.

Outlines began to trail from the pink orb, and as they weaved in and around each other Simi couldn’t help but to feel as if some kind of form was trying to show itself. As it turned out, she was right...

The form was her.

It was unclear at first, but as the lines and the fog became more established there was a pink unicorn before her, perfectly identical to her other form, except however, for the colors...

"Diddun...ferget...you are...not...horse..."

Simi could only gape in awe, and as she remembered that this was done all for her she couldn’t help but to feel that a part of her wasn’t worthy of so much energy being used up. Guided by Zero’s paws, the unicorn did several beautiful movements, including shaking its mane and even rearing up on its hind legs. Simi felt an incredible urge to morph back into a unicorn and to dance with her twin, but controlled herself and was rewarded for it. For the second time that the unicorn reared it became a phoenix. The creature then shot upwards into the air, and Simi gave a cry, flapping her wings as though she was going to follow it, though staying where she was respectively. She was jumped out of her trance when she could hear Zero’s voice again.

"Now...Flourish."

The phoenix suddenly threw its head back and opened its wings, releasing pink energy that exploded in all directions. As these streaks hit the ground, they formed momentary images of beautiful spring-like scenery, including animals to inhabit the pink fantasy world.

Without warning, all of this dissolved into diamond dust, making the air around Zero and Simi a fog that sparkled not with droplets, but bits and pieces of little diamond fragments. The phoenix, along with the world that it had created, was gone.

Zero then slumped lightly to the side, panting, but smiling at Simi in a way that showed he was pleased with his work.

"I...I hope I did not...startle you."

The blue phoenix was still wide eyed from the whole experience, and again felt that she may be at a loss for words. However, this time she knew what to say. “No... that... that was amazing.”

Slowly, but fluently, Simi folded her wings under her. As she did so they began to turn back into feathered legs and hooves, and the feathers all along her body sank into her and spread out, becoming fur once more. Finally, she increased in size and lost her beak, exchanging it for a muzzle and for a sprouted, icy horn. Morphing into a unicorn was much easier than becoming a phoenix- for that was her birth-form.

Now back into comfortable skin, Simi trotted towards Zero steadily. She didn’t know how much energy he had sacrificed for that show, and though she was still reeling over it, she had concern for the black cat. “That was amazing, Zero!”

===OOC===
I am very much enjoying this as well, I hope there are no problems with continuing it here! ^___^

===IC===

Zero felt relief at Simi's reaction to his show. He had intially feared the possibility of scaring her, but just the opposite had occured: it had fascinated.

“No... that... that was amazing.”

He turned his gaze away from her as a firey blush took over his cheeked, but he grinned with immense satisfaction and his tail flicked about excitedly behind him. His attention snapped back to her as she underwent her transformation from Phoenix to Unicorn, the smooth and graceful morph of wings into hooved legs, the wings melting into fur, the body enlarging, and the head which sprouted a horn and reformed into a Unicorn's face / muzzle. He stumbled a bit. It was still an amazing thing for him to witness, and even if he had seen the transformations a thousand times, it was unlikely that he'd ever tire of it. He remained where he was and panted heavily as she came towards him.

“That was amazing, Zero!”

He became bashful once more, and closed his eyes to giggle quietly. As he did so, the diamond dust pulsated, and in an instant, all of it converged upon Zero. It sat just above his fur for a few moments, crackling with electricity, before it sunk into his body. And then, the worst thing he could have possibly imagined happened: Every single strand of furr and hair on his body sprung up and stuck straight out, as if he had just had a bath and been stuck in a staticy dryer. It also caused his t-shirt to poof out. He looked like a ridiculous cat-porcupine thing, his head had a crazy rockstar spike look going on, and his tail looked like a spikey mace. His face? > O___o That.

"Wh...what the flux capacitor just ha...happened...MY FURR!?"

He covered his mouth quickly with a paw, and spoke more quietly through it.

"Err...sorry...fer yellin...but...ugh."

He looked to Simi embarrased, and only hoped for the best.

OOC: Lol poor Zero! I really did laugh when I imagined all his fur just going Poof!

BIC:

As Zero blushed and giggled a little, Simi breathed out in relief and slowed down to a stop, a few feet away from her friend. Ok, he seems fine...

However, just as she thought that, the diamond dust around them gathered upon Zero and began to electrify as it sunk back into body, making Simi flinch slightly with it's crackling hisses. And by the time it was all through....

Zero was a spiky, staticy mess with a poofed out shirt and an equally untidy tail, once so fluffy and full of character, now quite changed in appearance.

Zero himself didn't seem to have taken the experience very lightly... "Wh...what the flux capacitor just ha...happened...MY FURR!?" He covered his mouth with his paw.

As she bit her lip to keep herself from laughing, Simi couldn't help but to feel bad about her reaction. While the scene was hilarious- she couldn't help but to admit- Zero didn't find it so funny, and she didn't want to offend him.

The black cat then began to speak again, although more quietly. "Err...sorry...fer yellin...but...ugh." He looked back at her with an embarrased expression, and Simi tried to give a comforting smile.

"It's alright.... I probably would have reacted the same way." The blue unicorn came to an ubrupt stop when the words 'same way' mingled with ungracious snicker. She laid back her ears, blinking apologetically.

"I-I'm sorry..."

Zero could tell as Simi attempted to hold back laughter, and he looked away embarrasedly. His cheeks flared up with more blush, but this was of the humiliated sort. His shoulders were slumped and he couldn't figure out what to do, so he just fidgeted.

He brightened back up as she smiled, and for a moment his confidence returned to him.

"It's alright.... I probably would have reacted the same way."

That's when he heard the snicker, and he cringed, looking away again. He wasn't angry with her, but he was definitely embarrased. He tried to smooth down his furr with halfhearted strokes, but every attempt failed, and he just felt awkward. He wanted to just hide somewhere.

"I-I'm sorry..."

His eyes widened in something that resembled horror as her words forced him to analyze the situation.

What the hell is wrong with you? Not moments ago you thought she was the most magnificent thing you'd ever seen and filled you with happiness. And now, just because she laughs at what is admittedly an absolutely hilarious perdicament, you can't even look at her? Hello, mister genius. She's not laughing for any other reason than you would've at similar situations - it's FUNNY!

He lifted a paw and bapped himself firmly on the head, before he presented Simi with a genuine smile, his eyes apologetic for having made her feel guilty.

"No...no you dun haveta be sorreh. It's funny, it really is...I jess get upset when my furr's mussed cause it takes a long time to get it nice, 'n I like ta keep it that way."

He looked thoughtful for a moment.

"Heck, ya know...if it makes you laugh...then, izzgood, worth all the cleanin...whats a betta thing than makin a person...naw, makin a friend laugh? Not much, not much. Cept maybe eatin cookies with em 'er something! Keke!"

He still seemed embarrased, but he gave her a thumbs up and smiled big as his whiskers twitched, just barely visible in the fuzzy field that surrounded them. He still silently wondered how he was going to fix this mess, as there were no warm bodies of water around to bathe nor private locations (considering the wide open wasteland) in which he could clean himself.

Mebbe I should wear one o' them antistatic fabric softener thingies from now on...

Zero's eyes widened, and after a few awkward moments he hit his paw against his head and smiled at Simi, his eyes apologetic.

"No...no you dun haveta be sorreh. It's funny, it really is...I jess get upset when my furr's mussed cause it takes a long time to get it nice, 'n I like ta keep it that way."

Simi gave an inward sigh of relief.

"Heck, ya know...if it makes you laugh...then, izzgood, worth all the cleanin...whats a betta thing than makin a person...naw, makin a friend laugh? Not much, not much. Cept maybe eatin cookies with em 'er something! Keke!"

The unicorn shot her ears up as she heard the word, 'eatin'. Of course... Zero may still be hungry. And, to be honest, so was she.

Groaning in her mind, Simi raised her head again to look hopelessly at the forest before her, only to breathe in in shock and to blink her eyes in disbelief. It was....

“My goodness...”

No longer shielded by a fuzzy barrier of fog, it looked like no forest that she had ever seen. The trees, green and towering in the dead of winter, almost touched the sky, and the undergrowth especially looked very inviting with it's little wildflowers decorating the forest floor. However, what attracted Simi the most was the grass. Grass was her main nourishment, and she stared longingly. But it wasn't just the grass that she was thinking about...

Another forest to care for... And it's grander than I thought.

It also felt different, too. No longer did she feel that foreboding wonder, and that silent call that urged her hooves towards it was no longer strained, but warm and welcoming. It was as if the forest had a life and soul of its own, and this only enthralled Simi even more.

There was something else that came to her mind, as well. Simi’s thoughts trailed back to when she had tried to... Of course! Maybe I can do that, now!

Pawing the ground with renewed spirits, the blue unicorn turned to Zero, giving a brief, “I’ll be right back,” before cantering towards the forest eagerly, her mane and tail flowing behind her and blending in with the pale blue sky above. Now that there was a place where she could grow flowers, she may be able to get something for Zero.

It wasn’t long before her dark silver hooves touched soft grass, and the soil beneath her was no longer harsh and frozen, but moist and spongy like it should be. Petals tickled her ankles, and birds from high up chirped lazily in the spring heat, heat not available in the barren lands just a few feet away from here.

Drinking in the sweet, warm air, Simi tossed her head with pure delight. Here she was... actually in the very woods that had called to her from the start! However, there was no time to stop and enjoy her surroundings, and the unicorn forced herself to take a step forward before she got lost in this wonder forever. She began to look for a good spot, for any tiny seed from under the soil that could grow something good...

However, Simi soon found that there was no need for such efforts. As she looked up to follow a pleasant scent, she realized that right above her was branches, dressed with bright apples with all sorts of reds, greens, and golds. Nickering in satisfaction, she reared up on her hind legs pushed her horn through just three of them, as getting anymore would push the apple at her base too far down to pull out. Then, tail swishing behind her, she galloped back to where Zero was, hoping that she hadn’t stayed too long or had worried him, but glad that she had finally found something for him. In the back of her mind, she thought, I must look ridiculous with these things on my head... She laughed softly to herself as she returned to a world where there was only snow to go around, powdery white spraying from the impact of her hooves.

“Hey Zero, look what I found.”

When Simi's ears pricked up, Zero tilted to his head to the side and looked puzzled, his own ears sticking up. Did she hear somethin?, he thought. She turned to gaze upon the forest, and upon her gasp, Zero's muscles tensed. For a brief moment he had thought something was wrong, but his fears were quickly settled when she spoke.

“My goodness...”

There was no fear in this voice, and Zero tried to look past Simi to see what she was seeing. But all he could see were a line of trees. The forest had not yet accepted him as an entrant and thusly all he could view were ordinary green trees, albeit quite large ones. Simi seemed entranced by it, and Zero wished he could see what she was seeing, for it was obvious it was not only the tree line that enthralled her. She turned to him after a period of silence.

“I’ll be right back,”

Zero blinked as she turned and trotted off towards the forest, and wondered what she had in mind to do. He blushed a bit, as her movements showcased and exemplified her beauty. At the point where she touched the grass of the forest, Zero was no longer able to see her, for the same reason he could not see the forest's beauty yet. This scared him briefly, and he felt the urge to run in her direction.

Don't. She said she would be right back. Trust her as she trusted you.

He nodded softly, and decided that instead of worrying about Simi's return, he should have been worried about his ridiculous appearance. The time she was gone gave him a chance for a quick fix, and he facilitated this by rapidly licking the back and fronts of his paws, which he then used to smooth the hair on this head down as well as the furr on his face, similar to what regular felines did. He still had a ruffled appearance, but it was better than porcupine mode. Zero grasped his tail and repeated these actions upon it.

Zero peered off to the forest again, and wished so that he could join Simi, or at least see her and the interior of the tree barrier. But he remained patient, standing idly as his tailed flicked about behind him. It wasn't long before she galloped back out of the forest and he could see her again. He smiled wide and waved as she approached.

“Hey Zero, look what I found.”

It took him a moment before he realized she spoke of the three apples impaled upon her horn. Zero grinned, covered his mouth with a paw, and giggled a little bit. But he also had other thoughts in mind.

She barely entered the forest and already she comes back out with some of the tastiest apples I've seen...it must be amazing in there.

His stomach rumbled at the thought of biting into some juicy apples and this made him blush again. He approached her slowly, but did not get too close, and gazed up at her.

"You gots a fruity horn!"

A big grin continued to make itself apparent across his face. He dared not attempt to retrieve the apples from her horn, however. She may have been the first Unicorn he met, but he was not so foolish as to go touching that horn without permission. It may very well have had the same sginificance to her as his tail did to him, and this was something to be respected. He would wait until she did something or instructed him to do something before taking any action. He felt it was appropriate to ask a question, though.

"What's it like in there...? I can't see nuffin but the trees."

Zero looked up at her, and as Simi had expected he covered his mouth, giggling, but that was ok. She thought it quite funny as well.

"You gots a fruity horn!" The black cat remarked as he approached her, and the unicorn blinked as she noticed his fur, which was a little neater now. He must have spent the time grooming.

She laughed, replying, "Yes, a fruity horn indeed."

Zero gave another look at her horn wistfully, but in such a way where Simi could see that he was a little wary. Of what...? I'm not angry or anything...

However, as she continued to ponder over this, he suddenly asked, "What's it like in there...? I can't see nuffin but the trees."

At this the unicorn sighed, the memory of it all still fresh. "It's wonderful... the birds sound really happy, the flowers smell sweet, there's no sign of winter in there at all, and..." She turned to give a brief look back. "It's very pretty."

A droplet of sweet juice trickled down her forehead, and as Simi shook it off she remembered that Zero's lunch was right on her. Lowering her horn at him, she spoke out, "Sorry... You can take them off, now." She snickered a little. "Won't have to worry about the cores, I pretty much stabbed them out." It then dawned on her that it was probably the idea of touching her horn that made him so wary, and she was thankful that he understood how important it was to her. However, that didn't matter anymore. Zero was a friend.

"It's wonderful... the birds sound really happy, the flowers smell sweet, there's no sign of winter in there at all, and..."

She turned to gaze back at the forest for a moment, and he followed her gaze. He could still not see beyond the trees, but he tried to imagine what she had described to him.

"It's very pretty."

He smiled and closed his eyes, to better imagine the scene she had depicted for him. Compared to the cold steel and machine filled decor of his laboratory, the sound of an organic, warm, beautiful setting populated with nature's artwork...it made him happy. He of course felt his laboratory was an accomplishment and it was a place he both took pride in and enjoyed. However, it could not fufill his spirit in the way a place drawn by life could. He yearned to enter that forest, to explore into it's depths, to meet it's creatures, to climb about and play in the limbs of it's trees, to dine upon that which grew from soil and hung from branches, and to find a place of vacancy in which he could call his new home. It was an exciting thought, and he could not help but meow in glee.

Simi lowered her head and spoke to him, which snapped him out of his daydream.

"Sorry... You can take them off, now."

At this, he reached up with great care, grasped the first of the three apples, and slid it off her horn gently. He repeated this for the next two, each time slow with steadied paws. With all three apples cradled in one arm, he sat down where the ground was still cleared of snow from earlier, crossed his legs, and curled his tail about his waist.

"Thank you very much!"

With his other paw he plucked an apple from his arm and held it out to Simi.

"We can make a mini-picnic out of this! Jess...without blankets or lemonade! But thassokay. Improvisation is key!"

He had begun to wonder if now was a good time to try and find out more about Simi...who she was, why she was here. But he held his questions until he knew what she was going to do next.

Simi tipped her head a little. "Oh, I'm fine without the blankets and lemonade." She bowed down on her knees and settled on the ground into a comfortable position. "I've never needed blankets as far as I can remember. And I'm afraid I don't know what lemonade is." For a moment Simi felt a little stupid about that. Blinking, she turned back to Zero and the apple in his paw.

"Were you holding that for me?" If he was, she was a little hesitant to take it in the first place. Zero was still hungry, and as for her she could always just go back and get something for herself.

When Simi settled down near him Zero meowed happily, glad she was to join him in a meal.

"And I'm afraid I don't know what lemonade is."

Zero grinned and went to explain it quickly.

"Lemonade's realll simple, but tastey! You take a lemon or two, some water, and some sugar! Squeeze the juice out of the lemon into the water,. and add sugar. The sourness of the juice and the sweetness of the sugar combine to make somethin that tastes real good! Even betta with some ice cubes in summertime, when it's real hot outside. Refreshin!"

He shrugged lightly, and then Simi inquired as to if he was holding the apple for her. He nodded happily.

"O'course! Meals are best shared with folks ya like, or I think so anyways! I can cut the third one in half ta even it out if ya want! Unless yer not hungry or somethin."

He'd keep it held out to her until she either took it or declined. Regardless of what she decided to do, he rolled another apple into his free paw and took a big bite out of it, munching happily. His cheeks were overtaken by a pink tint - the apples were as tastey as he imagined, not to mention it was quite nice getting some in his stomach. He chewed and swalloed, but before he took another bite, he decided to go with what he originally planned to do.

"So ummm...if ya dun mind me askin...where are yeh from? 'n why did ya come here?"

He had a curious look about him as he asked this, and he took another bite of his apple.

Simi nodded at this information, and found herself licking her lips in wonder. I should really try lemonade if I ever come across it. Since, after all, she couldn't make it herself.

"Were you holding that for me?"

Zero nodded happily, replying, "O'course! Meals are best shared with folks ya like, or I think so anyways! I can cut the third one in half ta even it out if ya want! Unless yer not hungry or somethin."

The unicorn shook her head politely. "I can always just get more if I grow hungry, or if you're still hungry after those." She gestured at the apples that she had given to Zero.

"So ummm...if ya dun mind me askin...where are yeh from? 'n why did ya come here?"

At this Simi blinked a little, surprised at the question, though realizing, too, that it would be asked at some point or another. As she tried to think of how to respond, memories from long ago pushed steadily at her conscious, threatening to come back into the open... memories that she didn't like to think about, lost friends and times when the fear seemed to have taken over her very being.

She blew out, eyes focused on the sparkling snow beneath her.

"I'm from another forest," she finally said. "It had humans, and it wasn't safe enough for me to stay in." Simi blinked and tossed her mane. "They... wanted my horn, and I lost friends to that same desire." She shifted her legs under her. "Others talked of taking the risks and leaving the forest, and eventually I did that same thing and found here." She looked over at Zero, hoping that he wasn't regretting asking.

Simi shook her head no when Zero inquired about giving her an apple, and he nodded as he took the apple back and set it in his arm. He took another bite of his apple, and then asked her about her history. She looked surprised in response, and Zero wondered if it had been the right thing to ask so soon. It seemed like she had something heavy on her mind, but Zero couldn't tell anything more than that.

Zero was startled slightly when she blew out, but he focused his attention fully as she began to speak.

"I'm from another forest, It had humans, and it wasn't safe enough for me to stay in."

She blinked and tossed her mane, and Zero could sense negativity in her use of the word human.

"They... wanted my horn, and I lost friends to that same desire. Others talked of taking the risks and leaving the forest, and eventually I did that same thing and found here."

Zero looked puzzled. He had lived around humans ever since his 'birth' from Khazetuha's soul divide, and he hadn't had any negative encounters with them, far as he could remember. Zero realized, however, that he was being naive if he felt that all humans were the same as the ones he had known.

"But...why would they want yer horn? I mean, it's beautiful, and I know that Unicorn horns have special powers...but couldn't they have just asked you nicely, if they wanted you to do something that only the horn could do...?"

It seemed to Zero that it would be perposterous for any person, 'less they were of pure evil, to try and take anything from a creature with such magnificence as Simi. He seemed slightly saddened.

Perhaps they did not see her as you do. Greed can be a powerful seduction to those who succumb to it. Not all are good of heart. Remember Shireen?

For the briefest of moments, Zero's eyes were tainted with fury...a spark of rage. The mere thought of that god forsaken...

But it disappeared as quickly as it came. This was not the time. He focused back upon Simi, and kept his ears perked up for her answer.

Zero seemed a little puzzled.

"But...why would they want yer horn? I mean, it's beautiful, and I know that Unicorn horns have special powers...but couldn't they have just asked you nicely, if they wanted you to do something that only the horn could do...?"

Simi gave out a sigh. "I used to ask my mother that... It's not the powers they want. Apparently, things such as horns can gain them many things, and they can't exchange horns or use them as they please while I still own it." She glanced away. "Besides, they thought us... stupider than them. None of them have ever tried speaking to me..."

Her terrible memories may have gotten the better of her then, had the unicorn not gotten distracted and paused. For a heart beat, Zero's eyes were no longer focused on her, and they held a strange, mysterious rage that was so faint that she wouldn't have been able to see it were she not so close. He then focused back on her- the anger dying in an instant- But it had still been jarring to her, to see Zero's gaze no longer holding laughter in it. Even for a moment.

"So...." Simi said a little uncertainly. "You can see that there was no reasoning with the humans..." She flicked her ear back, realizing that she didn't know anything of Zero's past.

===OOC===
Apologies for the lengthened delays as of late. Trouble with inspiration, though I got a spark for this one!

===IC===

"I used to ask my mother that... It's not the powers they want. Apparently, things such as horns can gain them many things, and they can't exchange horns or use them as they please while I still own it. Besides, they think that I'm stupider than them. None of them have ever tried speaking to me..."

Zero saw this as a huge problem. If they had only taken the time to try and speak with her, perhaps they would have known she was sacred, as all sentient life was meant to be...or would they? Just seeing her, that alone should have been enough for them to have known...

"So...." Simi said, uncertainty clear in her voice. "You can see that there was no reasoning with the humans..."

Zero sighed softly, and looked away from Simi, his eyes closed for a moment, ears flattened against his head.

"No reasoning...with evil."

He opened his eyes and refocused on her. He didn't really know what to say at this point. He felt saddened inside. Had he been forced to leave his own home...how would that have felt? Especially if it was because his very life was in danger.

Why does such foolishness occur? Why must selfishness and greed override kindness and friendship?

Zero nodded to himself as he had another thought.

Nobody deserves to be treated that way. Not Simi, not me, not Khaze, not anyone else.

With that, he jumped to his feet, staring right at Simi. He wasn't sure if what was coming was the right thing to say, but he was going to say it anyways.

"I dunno...what it's like, to have to leave your home like that. I chose to leave mine, but it sounds like you diddun have a choice...selfish greedy monsters made it for you. In mah book, that ain't right...it's disgusting!"

He merfed and stamped his foot, to drive home the point.

"I dun know what you think of yer old forest...if ya ever intend to go back, or if thass even an option. But...if Deep Forest is gonna be yer new home, or even if yer only gonna stay fer awhile, well..."

With a snap he whipped his tail forward, caught it in a paw, and held it tightly.

"I'll keep an eye out then! If any singleminded jackass with a hairbrained scheme to get at yer horn comes 'round here, I'll make personally sure to sting em real, real hard!"

With that, he twitched slightly. This single motion summoned rows of titanium barbs that sprung up the entire length of, and from all sides of, his tail, except where his paw was grasping it. Each one was about 2 inches in length and stuck straight out.

"Maybe they'll think twice 'bout mussin with yeh if they get a rear full o' these!"

He released his tail and the area where his paw had covered sprung up with additional barbs. A firey determination filled his eyes, and his body was tensed. He hadn't known Simi for very long...but he knew one thing for damn sure. She was worth way more than just her horn, and anyone who couldn't see that the value of a horn was outweighed by a life lived happily and free was a dense fool.
