In the broad daylight emerged a creature from the distance. At first glance it would have been considered a wolf or a fox of some strange breed, but the odd coloration and mixture of greens and browns displayed a sharp contrast to the stereotypical wolf or fox. Trailing behind it was a long lizard-like tail that swished back and forth with the stride of the beast it belonged to, mimicing the movement of smaller vines protruding from the tips of the elongated ears.

The Terran Fox stopped a few feet short of the gryphon, tilted her head to the side, and grinned. "Hello...," she began, feeling a little uneasy.

This was the first time she actually tried to greet others who came into the woods. It was foreign to her since most of the times she tried to introduce herself, she found herself staring down the barrel of the gun. It was also strange trying to greet those who were new to the woods when she was fresh herself.

Around this time she noticed that the creature was jumping from plant to plant, examining them excitedly. Even though Gaea herself wa s anature lover...this struck her as odd. She was never found watching over the plants as curiously as this beast was.

Rosie turned her head to look at the curious fox like creature that had said hello to her.

"Hello!" she chattered, turning her short stocky frame around to face the other. "I'm Rosie Treefeather, who're you?" she asked.

Gaea blinked a bit, then showed her teeth in a grin. The creature certainly did seem hyper. Or happy. Whichever, it was a good thing.
Well, Rosie was somewhat put out at the question, but not for long.

"What? I'm a gryphon! You've never heard of us before? I'm from the Equator, from the huge rainforests there."

She fluffed her wings like a proud byrd. "We are adapted for living in the trees."

"Gri-ffin?" Gaea repeated, rolling the word around on her tongue for a moment before connecting the word with the creature before her. "I've never heard of them...and haven't been by the equator.
And the fox-like creature tilted her head. Gaea looked anything but an avian.

Rosie fluffed her feathers. "Yes, but theres a difference between being adapted to the trees and being adapted to the open air."

The short grypon sat back on her haunches and spread her wings, to give Gaea a lesson about gryphon wings.

"See?" she said, showing her broad rounded wings. They were brightly colored and feathered, but that wasn't the point. "Our wings are shorter, making them really great for travel in the trees, but they are short, and not that strong for flapping, so we glide from branch to branch instead. A gryphon meant for the open sky has larger narrower wings that are stronger for flapping. They are faster too, but that prevents easy forest travel for them," she said.

Gaea's grin became smug as she stood proud on all four paws. And suddenly her form shifted. Her body became longer, her forelimbs disappeared to expand into wings, her hind legs split into talons, and her tail became longer...feathered.

And there stood a Phoenix of massive proportions. Much larger that Rosie, and with a curved brown beak that made her look a little dangerous, even though she would bring no harm. "My wings are meant for flying...which becomes difficult in this forest. Especially since it is noted that you may wish to avoid the trees for now."

Rosie cocked her head at the fox turned phoenix.

"Avoid the trees? Why? I live in the trees. What need would I have to avoid them?"

The phoenix shifted her eyes left and right for a moment, almost as if she were making sure that nobody else was evesdropping. Why she did this is anybody's guess, but the next moment she lowered her head and spoke in a soothing tone, her serrated beak level with the head of the jungle gryphon.
Rosie cocked her head, and focused a seemingly oversugared orange eye upon the moss growing on the trees. Indeed, it look lke very nasty stuff.

"When did that happen?" she asked.

Seeing the strange bird take off into the air, Rosie shrugged and followed along on the ground, unable to fly conventionally. So she would stay away from the trees, at least until the moss went away.
