Fish Pond...

Post by Roose Hurro »

Roose's need to pee was not urgent, more a familiar awarness of pressure. However, coupled with his minor hunger pangs... and distracting memories of his own childhood... the momentary lull in action almost caught him off-guard...

... well, actually, he did get caught... the tail-grabber turned out to be Matuka herself, who managed to... umm, yea... "save his tail" by grabbing it. Good thing his need to pee was not urgent, or that grab... Matuka's arm around his waist, lifting him up... would have resulted in an "accident"....

As it was, Roose whuffed, and gave Matuka a put-upon expression... till he saw the pile, and then the way she fended off "attackers" with her feet. Her laughter was contagious, and Roose's expression collapsed into mirth... here he was, a full-grown male adult... wings and everything... being caried around like a small child. No... he couldn't protest that tail-grab, not when the free ride allowed him to watch the slowly calming chaos from such a good vantage point. Ohh, yes! He had a time to rest from his efforts at play, to watch as his young playmates tuckered out...

... then the time came, quicker than he expected, when all the youngsters had fallen asleep, sprawled all over each other in spots across the Scoop... only then did Roose feel Matuka's hold on him loosen, as she finally set him safely down on his own two feet.

Parents of these sleeping children gathered them up and took them to bed... the Greerlell equivalent of a bed, anyway... and Roose could only watch, stretch, yawn... and look himself over, to see if he was missing any bits of fur... or other body parts. Surprisingly, nothing was missing... only a few hand licks and a quick claw comb down were needed to take care of his pelt... to undo some minor dishevelment...

... then Matuka returned, taking care of her own ruffled condition. Roose looked up at the darkening sky... over towards the setting sun. Karek finished settling his last armload of progeny, and joined his mate... his hands flicked away grass bits, picked out of his ears... bits that fluttered back to ground in a light breeze, like unwanted chaff.

Karek spoke....

Roose responded...

... "No... no bruises or broken bones... though I may have had a partial footprint on my butt...." Roose grinned, took up a more formal posture, and gave a shallow bow, ears and seelers slicked back...

... "Thanks for the Welcome...."

Matuka's soft laugh didn't escape his attention... nor did her question to Karek. Indeed, his curiousity was tweaked... he still needed to pee, but he would wait further. Wait... while looking a bit embarrassed by all the attention, especially after Karek's wink and comments. Really... just having accepted him into their home was enough... but Roose was curious, one thing 'Twill were known for, like Greerlell fecundity.........

A nod, a shuffle of limbs, a swish of his tail tuft through the green-scented air... Matuka herself led the way over a small hill, into a hollow, and Roose followed.

He followed... scented water in the air... scented... scented... all he could do was stand there, staring at a large fishpond, hands to his muzzle as he hurred his surprise and pleasure... ohh, this was more than he'd expected... such a thoughtful gift! Karek should not have bothered asking his questions...

... "I think it's grand. You've done more than right, you've done..." Roose shook himself, from head to toes... "I don't know what to say...." He paced up to Karek, brushed tail tuft against chest, and bowed again, eyes briefly closed... "Except, maybe, just a simple... thank you, very much...."

His eyes opened, and he looked up at Karek... then he turned, and rushed over to Matuka... tried to give her a hug, as a more basic, more personal form of thanks...

... the effort resulted in the side of his head... an ear... being pressed against her very pregnant belly... on impulse, like the time his own mother had been pregnant with Aurree, eleven years ago, he placed his hands gently on Matuka's belly, and smiled up at her...

... "Auma Matuka... I see three strong patterns within your own...." He glanced over at Karek, to include him in his next words... "You should both be proud."

His eyes opened a bit wider, and he stepped back, twitching uncomfortably... didn't know if it was rude, so he tried to keep his hands away from his crotch...

... "Ummm... is there a restroom anywhere near here?"

Matuka was nothing but delighted for their guest, especially after the confirmation of how many young she carried. But she paused thoughtfully at the restroom comment. She understood his need.

She pointed to a stand of bushes off on a hill top. They were tall, affording cover for privacy.

: Don't fall in, : she said. : There's a pit; just kick some dirt over it when you're done. :

It was a way to keep from "stepping in it", for sure, especially for a species that consumed it's nutrition through it's feet. Probably not quite like anything Roose had ever used, but it was all right, so long as your footing was accurate.

The pit, used by Greerlell, is roughly triangular shaped and as deep as a tall male was tall (about fifteen to sixteen feet). It was dug out evenly, and the dirt piled nearby for covering the deposits. The narrow triangular end was for those with shorter legs (namely the children), as the Greerlell straddle the pit when 'going'. When the pit is filled, the bushes are left to grow and consume the deposited fertilizer, and another privy pit dug nearby, and ringed with transplanted bushes.

Greerlell privy pits could be identified by the circles of thickets in the landscape, though an outsider would have no idea what they were until it was explained to them. The bushes always grew the best around the pits.

The Greerlell were naturally fastidious beings, living out in nature as so many other species have forgotten to do. "Accidents" were highly dissapproved of, and children were trained quickly to always go in the pits. Even the newborns, the young a few days old, were rapidly learning that the pit was where they needed to 'go', but until they grew stronger in leg strength, the most they could do was alert a nearby elder, and be taken to the pit, so they could be rescued lest they should fall in.

Hole in the Ground...

Post by Roose Hurro »

Unlike the Greerlell, the 'Twill did not use simple pits for their sanitary needs... being an "indoor" species, living under roof rather than sky, they had developed indoor plumbing technology and waste processing methods of far greater sophistication than a simple hole in the ground. Not that they didn't dig a hole and burry "it" when out in the wild.........

Roose grinned at Matuka's "Don't fall in" comment, and nodded his understanding about kicking in dirt, as he dropped to all fours and dashed for the hilltop indicated. After all that play, he was indeed looking forward to an evening of food, rest and conversation... the play hadn't even made him breathe hard, but the last twenty-four hours had been very busy, and he knew he'd sleep well tonight. He hadn't eaten much, and he'd had many friends in Deep Forest to say goodbye to, after packing up his camp by the river. Vala, Jah... Anani, Dax, Rotor, Tiffin... and others... he'd even sought out Gaeva, to give his thanks... amongst other things.

Funny, how his mind went over the last day's events, while he "went", crouched over the narrow end of the triangular pit... grinning, while his eyes turned down, and he watched the powerfull, warm, dark orange stream shoot itself into liquid oblivion... down the hole, into the darkness of shaded earth. His footing was accurate, his aim... right on target. Indeed, he peed quite healthily for almost thirty seconds, before the stream finally tapered off and stopped its flow... his bladder now empty, his "business" done....

Roose kicked some dirt into the hole, shook his foot clean, lashed his tail in satisfaction... and headed back to the fishpond, again on all fours.........

Speed... yes, the rush of wind through fur and over scales. Roose's Eye glowed bright, and he suddenly streaked over ground, limbs pumping and thumping... then coiling and thrusting, a leap that sent him over Karek's and Matuka's heads by twenty feet... a flying leap. His aim... the pond. With a backward flip in the air, he fell feet first towards the water, eyes taking in the view...

... then, his feet struck the water's surface.

The water surged and waved... jiggled, like a huge bowl of jello, as Roose... stood on the water's surface, his feet having barely gotten wet on their pads. Fish scattered from underfoot... but one didn't get far. Roose swiftly dropped to all fours, his Eye shining brighter... his right arm plunged through the water's TK reinforced surface tension, snagged the fish in his claws, and popped it out like a pickle from a jar...

... and just like a pickle, he bit into it with a crunch... bit off the fish's head, so it wouldn't suffer, then used his touch and power to cook it in his hands... to steam it in its own juices. As he walked on the water to shore, his meal lightly cooked... a nice, twelve inch specimen of delicious fishdom... he didn't fail to notice the waterplants, nor to feel the tuberous roots through his contact with the water. Yes... as he walked on the water to shore, he snagged one of the plants, flared his Eye, and added one of those roots to his meal in hand. And, as he stepped on shore and returned to Matuka and Karek, he crunched a bite of the tuber raw, then bit off a chunk of his lightly steamed fish... both very tasty, if different from what his own HomeWorld offered.

'Twill were omnivorous predators... opportunists, a lot like Terran raccoons in their feeding habits... even had a similar dentition, suited to their varied diet. A 'Twill would and could eat anything available, animal and/or vegetable. All without any digestive troubles....

When Roose reached the company of his hosts again, he crouched down in the grass, and concentrated on his eating... neat, unrushed, but obviously relishing his meal. Halfway through, he swallowed a bite of tuber, then glanced at both Matuka and Karek... a purr in his throat...

... "Thank you again for your hospitality...." His words and attentions had included both, but then his eyes focused on Karek, with a smile... "Maybe later we can talk? You know, present father to future father?" Roose took a bite of fish, swallowed, turned eyes and smile towards Matuka... "And we could talk of other things, as well..." He brought Karek back into his look... "I've talked with my pada... with my grandfather... my uncle Timmor... enough adult males in my family to overwhelm a heard of K'eechis... but... it's still good to talk, especially with another species... those with a different viewpoint... culture... lifestyle... philosophy... any help I can get, to calm the nerves. I want Chorri to be happy...."

Roose took another bite of warm fish, as his expression fell a bit... his smile faded, and ears went back, as seelers drooped. So much love for her, but so much doubt. And a little fear of the unknown parts of his life-to-be.

Greerlell privies were not the only pitfalls, not the only holes that needed filling....

(OOC: Though I may have taken Matuka off my list of characters, I am still going to use her here, because I don't want to leave you in the lurch. I'm in the process of rebuilding and recreating a new Matuka, and a better built version of the Greerlell. I'm having way too much fun with antler styles, and the ears...well, I'll leave the rest a suprise. You'll love her though when I'm finished. Starting here I'll start introducing the new features. Eventually I'll get a pic up.)

Matuka and Karek watched in obviously pleased delight as Roose had his way with the pond. Though the smell of cooked flesh faintly nauseated them, they did not back away or turn their massively antlered heads. Instead they settled back on their haunches to watch Roose enjoy his meal, their lofty frames compressed neatly, like folded paper. They were easily four times smaller sitting down, their antlers actually brushing the grass, their long slender tails stretched straight out behind them, as they perched balanced on their toes, knees outward and sitting on their hocks, elbows resting on taught muscled thighs. The powerful thick tendon structure that held them together so they could reach physical speeds of over three hundred miles an hour were highly defined under their short dense fur.

"Maybe later we can talk? You know, present father to future father?"

Karek flicked his front ears in amusement, the hinds erect and keeping tabs on all going on around them.

: Of course, : he said, as Matuka laughed softly in the back ground.

I want Chorri to be happy...."

Matuka's large eyes gave that mysterious smile-without-a-mouth, her nostril slits opening and closing in a steady pattern, all three pairs drawing breath one after another.

: We would be pleased to talk with you, : she said.

: You can ask anyone, if you want. We are not ashamed to answer questions, : Karek said, his large yellow eyes looking kindly upon the young Twill. Their startling hour glass shaped pupils widened, almost filling up the iris with their blackness as the sun went down. Matukas tangerine orbs were mirroring her mates.

: And perhaps a little trade in questions, might be in order, : Matuka said, her eyes flashing in amusement. She knew her mate, knew his every thought and twitch, and knew that he was no doubt dying to ask his own questions.

Curiousity's Questioins...

Post by Roose Hurro »

Roose's teeth crunched fishbones and flesh alike, with every bite... his tongue delighted to find this fish loaded with eggs, cooked just as lightly as its meat. He made short work of the remaining innards, frequently crunching bites of the tuber, as he listened to Karek and Matuka. And he ate till the tuber was gone... till nothing but the fish's tail was left. This last bit, he dug a hole in the ground before him, and burried it... a gesture, and a soft, whispered blessing... in his native language, afterwards.........

Roose stood up, and bowed to host and hostess, each in turn. Then he returned to his crouch... not the feeding crouch of a moment earlier... actually, more of a meditative sit, like the posture he'd sat in with Matuka... when they had watched the sunset from GreenDay. Butt cushioned by the muscular base of his tail, while his tail tucked underneath his butt. Legs, crossed... knees raised... heels tucked close to his groin, for a moment... yet, unlike before, this time... Roose leaned back on his hands, arms braced. His digitigrade legs stretched out, lightly brushing along the underside of his tail... his tail tuft waved beyond his toes. The light breeze gusted, at just the right moment... his head tilted back, muzzle to the sky, eyes closed... chest expanding, nostrils flaring with a deep inhale, followed by a slowly exhaled sigh of content... gusting breeze ruffling his mane and longer body fur...

... for that brief instant, like a scene set in some romantic drama... a handsome hunk of beefcake, totally relaxed... waiting for... someone. Roose's wings even drooped and shuffled, caught the sunset, and sent a glitter of rainbows running over the grass... over other parts of his surroundings, too. All innocent, all part of a scene exuding unintended sexiness.

Indeed... his pose hid nothing.

If anything, Roose unconsciously showed off his sleekly muscled maleness... his athletic form... as all young male 'Twill were wont to do... unawares, most times. All part of growing wings... of an unmated male wanting to attract female companionship. Right now, Roose felt so comfortable, he wouldn't have cared, even had he noted his minor display of wing... and, well... the rest of what he displayed didn't matter... didn't embarrass him at all.........

Roose huffed... opened his eyes and licked his nose, flicked ears and seelers as he spoke, the toes of his left foot flaring apart, then relaxing against each other, again. His eyes focused on a spot between Matuka and Karek...

... "It is tradition in Hurro"Tau'ta for the guest to answer questions first... for the host to ask." His face tweaked with a smile, and his eyes glanced from Karek to Matuka and back. Yes... with his ability to read Patterns, Roose could tell Karek had many questions on his mind, just as easily as he could tell the number and state of health... only two of the things he could perceive... relevant to Matuka's unborn offspring. His own questions could wait, since his curiousity was now aroused...

... "Ask whatever you want in trade... I'm not shy about answering, if you're not shy about asking."

Roose met the look in Karek's eyes...

... "Yes... eveyone's curiousity can be satisfied...."

People Talk...

Post by Roose Hurro »

Roose cast his eyes to the darkening sky, to see if he could catch the first star of night... twinkling. His body twitched, his tail tuft flicked... ears and seelers moved, slicking back as he sighed and rubbed his belly. Green tongue licked once over the end of his snout. He was having trouble knowing where to start...

... "Hurrrrr... ahh, yes... my people. So much I could tell, but..." He looked from Karek to Matuka and back... "where would you like me to start? History, lifestyle, customs..." As he talked, he leaned back against a hill... a convenient bit of landscape... freed his hands to gesture, as he continued to list various aspects... "hunting techniques, medical practices, ways of raising young... I could start anywhere. I could describe my CityHome, tell tales of celebrations past...." Roose waved a gesture over his body... "I could pare things down to the basics... to biology, anatomy... diet, exercise habits... games and rituals...." He rubbed at his face, and then yawned... "You can see the difficulty in just telling you about my kind, without a guide to point the way. My people have been around a long time, and there is much I could tell... but it would help to know where you want me to begin, what you would like to know the most...."

Roose sighed for the second time... and yawned again, as he settled more comfortably into the grass... then switched his gaze between Karek and Matuka, with an expression of content expectation.........
Family Tales...

Post by Roose Hurro »

Hands rubbed down his muzzle as he thought, the end of his tail flicking faster... hesitating... then moving again, as his voice hurred and huffed. When his hands reached the end of his muzzle, one fell off and landed on his chest, to play with the longer fur there... the other slid down and scratched at a thigh...

... "Hmmm....urrrrh... I imagine you'll first meet my parents... my pada, Tommis... my auma, Sassah... my elder sister Aaunna, my younger sister... Aurree... my pada uncle, Timmor... Master Koon, my elder Teacher... everyone you meet will be related in some way, either through Blood or mating Bond. Everyone in my CityHome is considered Kith and Kin, however distant the relationship." Roose's claws stopped idly scratching his thigh... that hand and arm joined the other against his chest, folded comfortably, but folded so he could feel his heartbeat and breath rythyms through hands and arms...

... "And you'll meet Chorri........." For a moment, Roose's mind wandered. He breathed deeper, leaned his head back, eyes closed... imagination at work... ohhh, how he missed the sound of her voice, her warmth and touch! Her...

... "And she'll meet you, finally. When you see her, speak with her... I know you'll be fast friends. She's... she's........." Roose felt a bit chilled, low in his nether regions, in the cool of the evening's air. Roose turned his head down, as he opened his eyes.........

"......... wonderfull...."

With a very sheepish expression on his face, Roose covered himself with his tuft... then cast a long-suffering look to the sky, both hands cupped to his muzzle. From under his hands could be heard the muffled words...

... "At least all the children are asleep...."

Then his eyes squeezed shut, and his head shook an appology for his overactive hormones, as his hands rubbed at his cheeks. However, his voice held a low chuckle...

... "Any more questions?" While he spoke these words, his eyes opened... his Eye pulsed brighter for a moment, his ears and seelers flicked forwards, attentive... and he looked towards Matuka and Karek, trying hard to suppress a self-conscious grin.........
