Reply Reds Tavern (Anyone Welcome)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Idea: You're walking around a large port city and you're feeling tired and hungry. You come to a pole, a black iron post, hung with an oil lamp and a signboard. The sign says...

...Reds Tavern

Hanging from this sign, from two large, black iron hooks that prove to be exact replicas of a Utahraptors massive footclaws is another sign that says

Room and Board: Vacancy ~ Open 24 hours

To your right is a large, glass paned door, which leads to a high ceilinged room inside, lit by light from the large windows, and a candelabra on the reception desk.

To the left is the barroom, kitchens, hearth, and gaming room. To the right is a large cozy sitting room, with another hearth. On either side of the receptionists desk is a large spiraling staircase, made from black wrought iron, and solid as rock.

Upstairs are the boarding rooms, bathrooms, laundry stations and linen closets.

As you enter the tavern, you are greeted by a Utahraptor sitting at the desk. Don't be shocked. She's ten feet tall and a light tan brown with chocolate colored tigerish stripes. (She's also pregnant again; you can tell by the loving, motherly look she has...she is near her due date to lay her fourth clutch.) She welcomes you to Reds Tavern, introduces herself as Kesti, and asks if you are staying the night. After you answer, she takes you into the barroom, and leaves you with the seating hostess, another female Utahraptor named Clio.

Clio settles you and takes your order, and leaves you to interact with the other patrons.

At the bar is the most notable creature yet: Red, the owner and manager of the Tavern. His is ten feet tall, black above and white below, highlighted by green, gold, pink and blue colored scales. He has two jewled rings piercing his left nostril, three seal rings on his right hand and a white apron around his waist. He is laughing and handing out drink orders.

Feel free to talk to any of the Utahraptors you want. They love company and make great conversationalists. Or explore the tavern, and meet the children of the Redface Clan.

All are welcome as long as the rules of good propriety are followed.

IC:

Kesti finished marking in the new days ledger chart. She rinsed her sharp claws of the black ink and blew on the ink until it dried, whereupon she closed the book and sat back on her cushioned bench. This was a stubborn clutch. She was due for it any time now.

Garin, the last hatchling of her second litter trotted up with a clicking of foot claws. He handed his mother a large crockery mug, specially designed to be held by a raptors three fingered and clawed hands.

"Aunty Clio said to give this to you, Mother," he said. Kesti smiled and took a delicate sip from the mug: rosehip tea. Clio knew her love for the sour flavor of rosehips.

"Thank you, Garin. Go help your father now with the gardening. He is still gardening, right?"

Garin nodded, and raced off, his mother's voice telling him not to run, that walking feet were happy feet.

Kesti sighed and set the mug down, drumming her claws against the desk. 43 years old she was, and still living in the tavern, helping her father, Red, to run things, along with Clio and Bakari, her two sisters, each one with their own mates and families, but each putting in their all to keep up the income of the Redface Clan.

She sat and watched the passersby outside the glass panes of the door.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Onnin Bey had traveled the roads for most of the day, and he felt tired, as well as hungry and thirsty. Yet... he blessed the coolness of the breeze, the warmth of the sun, and the whiteness of the clouds in the sky... every breath, every scent, every sight and sound and feeling. The day had been so perfect, he'd removed his shading poncho early in the day, spending near all his time in only hide and fur, everything else tucked and folded away in his backpack. By mid-afternoon, he'd reached the coastal area... and found himself entering a very busy port city, name presently unknown.

Yes, even more sights to see, scents to smell, sounds... and voices... to hear. Bey quickened his steps, careful not to trip anyone he passed with his long tail... careful to keep his tail's chestnut furred tuft out of the dirt, and away from heavy feet.

He stopped for a minute... maybe two... in front of a large shopfront window, to take stock of his reflection... and to rest. He could already feel the dust, smell the sweat on his smooth, mouse-gray hide. His reflection only served to confirm his road-wearyness... the stiffness in his slender, digitigrade legs, the shadows in his once-bright amber eyes, the slump in his narrow shoulders. With a 'humph!' at his reflection, Bey unslung his pack, lowered it to the ground... and sat down on it, on the edge of the street, still in front of the window... and, yes, his backpack had been made for such a use, as well as for carrying a load....

Bey ran his claws through his chestnut mane... for a few moments, ignoring the looks turned his way... 'what, never seen a naked Nasskwill taking a roadside rest before?'... his finally returned look silently said. With a snort at the whispered comments, he continued grooming his mane... the only fur on his sleek yet muscular body, other than his tail tuft... then rubbed his hands over his slender muzzle, rubbed back his large ears, and yawned loudly... shook himself, all over, before he got up... re-shouldered his pack, and continued walking....

Time to find a place to stay for the evening, and night... a place with food and drink, bath and bed. In that order....

And so, five minutes later, Bey entered 'Red's Tavern'... according to the sign hanging from the doorside post, rooms were available... and found his interest and curiosity intently piqued by the sight... and scent... of a very large female Utahraptor, tending the reception desk... a very large, obviously egg-laden female Utahraptor, sipping tea, he saw... by the steam wafting from her mug...

... oh, yes!... despite being young and single, Bey knew expectant motherhood when he saw it!

Bey responded with a broad smile... despite his slender muzzle... as he approached the desk... his steps graceful but weary, his tail whipping side to side behind him... his spirit more than satisfied with his tavern choice....

It had probably been nearly ten years since a Nasskwill had traveled through this area... maybe through this very city... so Bey had prepared himself for the inevitable misunderstandings and unintended offenses, given by those unfamiliar with his species. The stares and whispered comments in the street had provided enough evidence of that unfamiliarity... though the stares and whispers had come near entirely from humans. Yes, it seemed bare, unfurred mammalian skin always made humans react, in some fashion... still, Bey did get tired of being refered to as a she, in so many of those whispers. If such people had ever seen a female Nasskwill, they would understand their mistake. Bey doubted those same people were similarly confused by the Utahraptors running this tavern....

Of course, people didn't expect male reptiles to show 'evidence' of their gender....

And, really, all Bey wanted right now... a hot meal, a cold drink, a warm bath and comfortable bed... existed here, only a few moments away, if the glance he received from this expectant mother raptor gave him any clue....

------------------------------------------------------------
(ooc) Oh, by the way... a few important details. Bey is 6'9" tall... average for his age and gender. As for female Nasskwill, they are up to two feet shorter than males... less slender in proportion, but still muscular in build... with five digits on each hand and foot, rather than the four digits males possess... just in case you were curious! If you want or need any more details, just ask.... (ooc)
OOC: he currently looks like an old human, although you can see from his eyes and his style of movement he isn't. he has another, less humanoid form that he may become at some point, I'll leave the shape for a surprise. If you really want to know what he looks like underneath all that skin I'll tell ya if you really want to know. also, he is waiting for jacobson, Leonardo was the person that Jacobson's parents paid to create him. He is powerful but at the moment he just wants to see his "child" again.

IC:

Leonardo walked up to the sign, he had ben waiting a long time for an adequate place to rest, and this seemed just it. His aged skin was cracked and wrinkled, his hair was old and greyed and his eyes were empty, almost like they were only pupils.

Entering the Inn he walked up to the receptionist's desk. He sensed she was pregnent, he could sense the life inside of her. He pondered for a while how much fight she may give to him removing it and experimenting on the foetus. It wouldn't be the first.

He soon gave up on that thought though. Ignoring the creature in front of him in the cue, Leonardo displaced the creature, now he was in front and he checked in and walked into the bar. He was waiting for someone, although he didn't show it, and sat by the bar itself.

A scotch with a twist of scorpion venom if you have any.

He awaited his order as he waited for his old acquaintance...
Bey heard the tavern's door open, then close... felt... something... come up behind him, as he began to unshoulder his backpack. His smile faded, and he turned... saw an odd... human?... an ancient old... man?... with disturbingly dark and vacant eyes... odd habits of movement. Bey sensed the power... just looking at... whatever this human appearing thing was... made him take a step back, as this wrinkled... and rude creature... almost walked through him. For a moment, Bey felt like he'd stepped in something unpleasant, left behind by a very ill carthorse. His eyes opened wide, his heart chilled by the look this... human elder... had given towards the female raptor. His sensitive hide crawled....

A quick glance to the female, followed by a narrow-eyed nod, signalled to her his willingness to wait... and though he tried not to, his mane ruffled in worried irritation. It was unbecoming of an elder, reguardless of species, to behave in such a fashion... but Bey was wise enough, despite his youth, not to open his mouth and voice a reminder to this... whatever it was. He kept his eyes on the female as she served the elder, watched as... he... entered the bar. Unable to avoid hearing, he shuddered at both the sound of his voice... and at his drink order.

Bey moved up to the desk, lowered his pack to the floor... tried to settle his mane and straighten his laid back ears, with a quiet snort and a shake of his head. He held out his right hand, and spoke... his voice surprisingly musical in tone and lilt, with a noticeable, clipped accent on the vowels, and a bit of a roll on the Rs...

... "Bey, of the House Onnin... an honorr to meet you, good lady."

Bey glanced at the old man, then returned a smile to the female raptor... "Forr some rreason, I feel soiled." He chuckled, a hurr of sound almost birdlike in its whistled ending. His mane finally settled, and his ears flicked forward... but his amber eyes held concern... "Arre you feeling well...?"
Re: Red's Tavern - Revived, Page One...
Kesti felt the evilness in this creature that barged past the first customer. It was not human but she did not know what to make of it.

She turned her head and a single hoarse bark alerted Clio and Red to watch the strange "human". She turned back to the other customer, who introduced himself as Bey. He mentioned something about feeling soiled, and asked how she was doing.

She slapped the desk with her clawed, three fingered hand, disgusted.

"People these days," she growled in a low raptorian voice. "I've of the mind to throw the fool out of here. You do not come in and ignore our set rules."

She turned the page of the ledger and marked in Bey. "Are you staying the night?" she asked.

Staying the Night...
Bey nodded, after bringing his extended right hand back, and touching his chest. He felt his heart's rapid beat slowing, his quick breaths easing... with half his brow raised, and a touch of humor in his tone of voice, he spoke in return...

... "Forr that one, I would use the terrm 'perrson' verry loosely... sorrry to say." He glanced again at the old man, then turned his attentions back to the female raptor...

..."And, yes, I do wish to stay the night. I also wish, if you would excuse my asking..." He leaned a bit over the desk, and touched her hand lightly, with both of his, as she finished marking the ledger... "... to know yourr name, since you now know mine. And... to wish you, and yourr coming offsprring, good health and happiness. Yourr mate must be verry prroud...."

Bey knew some creatures would find his actions too close and personal... and this female had size, weight and sharp claws to her advantage... but she was also an expectant mother, reguardless of her species, and Bey only wished to show, as well as voice his respect.

And he was glad to know, despite the old man's troubling look, that the eggs inside her had not been harmed....
Re: Staying the Night...
Kesti cocked her head at him, tucking her chin, the raptorian look of slight embarassment, that this other had noticed her "pregnancy".

"Thank you," she said. "My name is Kesti and I'm the registrar. I'm usually working here during the day if you need me. My brothers take turns for the night shift."

She handed him a key. "Straight up the stairs, first door on the right, room number one. Enjoy your stay," she said grinning with teeth bared, the only way a raptor could smile.

Upstairs, Downstairs...
Kesti... yes, a pretty name... short, simple, sweet... much like the names given to female Nasskwill in their youth. Bey dug into his pack for his money pouch, paid for his night's stay... not sure if he would stay longer... received both key and instructions with polite grace, a return thanks, and the words...

... "I will..."

... spoken with his own toothy grin, before he bowed... and headed up the stairs to his room, his pack reshouldered for the brief trip. Even in his tiredness, he took the steps two at a time, still smiling as he thought... *Onnin Kesti... (?)* But, he ended up dismissing the absurd thought with a chuckle... yes, it was one thing to consider another male's luck, quite another to envy his mated condition... and his fatherhood. Bey knew his day would come soon... he could feel it in his blood.

The key in Bey's hand did indeed fit the doorlock on Room Number One, as if they had been... made for each other? His distracted mind found the sudden connection of key and lock to male/female relationships a surprising revelation, if a bit of a conceptual stretch. Male/female relations rarely, if ever, presented themselves with such mechanical simplicity... but, they did indeed open doors...

Before his present thoughts were half finished, Bey entered his room... clean, simple, better than many rooms he'd slept in before... set his pack down by the bed, dug out his neckchain... slipped chain through keyring and head through chain... then opened the window...

... since most taverns he'd stayed in tended to be too warm and dry, with beds too soft. Bey had learned to live with the lack of humidity, and with soft beds... not too well with the warmth, so he was glad recent nights had been cool. Nasskwill liked to sleep in cool, damp-air conditions, stretched out on hard surfaces....

Yes, he inhaled the early evening air, then turned back to the door... hesitated, for a moment... returned to his pack, and removed a small case... continued out the door, secured his room, and headed downstairs... food, drink... maybe a bit of socializing... then a warm, relaxing bath... and then, to bed....

And, by the time he'd reached the bottom step, his thoughts had started reviewing the details of this day's travels, though... as always... his senses remained alert to his surroundings....
Re: Upstairs, Downstairs...
Leonardo continued to wait for his order. He knew that those around him may not have liked his manners, but in the length of time they had lived, it was less than a moment to him. He cared little other than to see Jacobson again. How he must have grown.. he had been angry to learn that he had been forced to leave. Leonardo loved Jacobson more than the other "children" and had killed the human settlement that had forced him to leave.

He knew the child would end up there, Leonardo had a special invisible marker, all his children instinctually followed them.

Barman, my order please. His words were cold, and the final word sounded more like a threat then a simple please.
