Torn. (Moonclaw's Leaving Thread)

Post by The Wings Of Fate »

Feathers ruffled as the Griffin looked out onto the vast plain. Her dark crest wavered in the breeze, curling round soft feline ears. A look of distant thought was upon her face, one that would deter a curious passer-by - for she was evidently on edge, perhaps ready to strike out with those large lion paws; and a slender tail quivered with unseen intentions.

Moonclaw set her eyes upon a mountain. A mountain which lay far to the East, out of sight from these forest dwellers. A forest from which she had flown to this new home with hopes of glorious adventure. It was a not hope that had not been fulfilled, for she had seen many things here that would shake the very soul of her family clan. Yet something drew he to this hillside - and the deep murmur of anxiety flood the Griffin's mind.

"Granfather!" Moonclaw fell forward, her eyes suddenly wide and frantic. It was he family, yes. What was wrong? Why did she feel this way? Like a rope had curled roung her heart, tugging her forward - wrenching her down the hillside.

"No.. no.. Stop!" The griffin wailed, thrusting her talons into the earth. She swung her head from side to side, squeezing the mud between her claws, rooting her to the ground. The pain had flared up within her body, pressing down on her mind. Why did she have to leave? Why now?

And then the invisible rope uncoiled itself from her soul, and left the Griffin panting amidst the grass.
"Must... leave." She told herself through gasping breaths, "But my home?"

Moonclaw twisting round to look at the grand forest halls - her nest for the past months. She clasped shut her eyes and shook a feathered head; what was it that persisted so?

Something had happened to her grandparents.

This was a desperate day.

Another griffin strode through the wastelands. She looked up briefly, a rush of wind ruffling her feathers, before pressing on towards the hillside.

Moonclaw had fallen to the earth in confusement. She felt alone. Very alone. It would have been nice to stay at the forest, to make good friends and live out her days with those she loved. Now she was left with the notion that her grandpa was in trouble. Was he dying? Still she could not grasp her wits.

The world around her spun, whistling past her amber eyes. Moonclaw buried her beak into soft feathers and wept.

A long time later, Moonclaw looked up and into the eyes of a friend.
"Grandmother!" she exclaimed, though did not rise. Strength had abandoned the Griffin and this upset her greatly.

Why?

"Do not cry, my dear." The rusty gold feathers of her Grandmother settled beside Moonclaw. "It has taken me along time to find you. I did not travel all this way to seek a weeping child."

The younger Griffin managed a smile.

"Why have you come?"

The other did not answer for a while. She was tired and very, very hungry.

They ate swiftly. A stray, elderly wilderbeast caught Moonclaw's eyes and she brought back the carcass expecting an answer; though she had to wait until her grandmother had eaten her fill.
The dull Griffin cast her eyes to the wastelands and muttered,
"He is going mad. Saying how the whole nest is in danger. I came to find you, Moonclaw, because if what he speaks is true, then we can't fight alone."

Moonclaw understood. Her grandfather could see into the future as frequently as one who have De-ja-vu. He was skilled, but would often argue it was more of a curse than a gift. One thing shook her heart, though, and that was that he rarely predicated a false future for the nest.

"Then I must go with." And the silver beast rose to a stand, glaring up at her recent, humble home.

"Live long, deep forest. May your troubles be rare and swift."

ooc: Exuse the crummy exit.
