Geaven's Story ((Finished))

Post by Gaeva Winged Unicorn »

Lupin Loki gave me the idea to write about Geaven's lost mate and basically his past. I'm going to write it down here piece by piece. Here's the first bit, he's just a little foal now, and his mate hasn't even been introduced yet, but you get to see a teenaged Gaeva, she wasn't always as nice as she is now

***

Looking up at the nearly cloudless sky the winged unicorn foal yearned to be able to fly. His dark blue eyes tracked the small figures high up as they danced in the air in graceful figures. They were all foals as well, but older than himself, with the telltale black at the tip of each feathers in their wings that meant they could already fly. They each had a coat in a different color, but it was one who was such a light color that she nearly appeared white that had the young foal’s attention. It was his sister, Gaeva. One of the oldest in the group high above him, nearly an adult herself, but still playing with the young ones. He loved his sister, but he also envied her ability to fly. With great admiration he watched her and her friends twirl around each other in a game he did not know, a game that could only be played in the air.

“Geaven, come on! We’re gonna play by the lake!” Turning his head the foal watched his best friend Arren run away with five other foals about his age. All without the black tips on their feathers. Casting one last longing glance at the sky and the flying figures Geaven turned to follow his friends, his little tail raised to let the hair growing at the end fly like a small banner behind him. He quickly caught up with them and ran along Arren side. His friend had a bright red coat that made him stand out no matter where he was. Arren had confided to Geaven that he had overheard his parents talking about his future, how they feared that with such an obvious color he would always be easy to spot from the sky. He’d always have to be careful not to be seen by predators, or worse, humans. Grinning at him Geaven looked around at Yalla and Yillin, two twin girls with a soft yellow coat who were running right in front the two of them. They were older than him or Arren and each had exactly one feather in each wing with a black tip. Something that made them very proud and bragged about at every opportunity.

They reached the lake quickly enough and ran into the cool water, splashing each other until they were all dripping wet. Geaven was the first to go deeper and swim around, using his long spindly legs to propel himself forwards. The yellow twins followed him and soon all seven foals were happily swimming about. Geaven liked to swim, he liked the way it made him feel light. He always imagined to be flying when he was in the water. Grinning he plowed his legs through the water to reach Arren, then used his neck and shoulder to push him under. Startled the red foal came back up, gasping, then glared at his friend. Geaven laughed and tried to flee but was too slow. Arren reached down with his head and grabbed the blue foal’s tail, pulling him back. Geaven yelled and splashed around, trying to free his tail. He heard Yalla and Yillin laugh at him and he grinned sheepishly back. He kicked back with his hindlegs underwater, and though he moved very slow he still managed to give Arren a hard enough kick to make him let go.
By then the others reached the two of them and it became a general game to try and pull each other underwater. During this wild game Geaven chanced to look up and see two large majestic figures circle slowly above them, using the currents to stay in the air. One was completely black, the other a light blue color. They were two of the herd’s guardians, keeping an eye on the foals to make sure they were safe while they played. Once more Geaven wished he could fly and join those two up there, but forgot all about it as Yalla managed to bump him underwater.

The sun stood high in the sky by the time they left the water. The black guardian had flown lower and called to them it was time to go back to the herd. Protesting the foals had ignored his words and continued their play, when the blue one spiralled down as well, repeating the first one’s words. His name was Pirrin, and known as one of the strictest guardians of the herd. He’d probably take over as Head Guardian once old Watchom retired from the job. A little awed and not quite brave enough to ignore Pirrin’s orders the seven foals got out of the water and trotted back to their parents, the two guardians following them in the sky.

Geaven spotted his parents and ran from the small group of foals. His mother was a soft pink color, almost white like his sister, and his father such a dark shade of blue he nearly seemed black. Geaven took after him in looks, even though his own blue coat wasn’t quite so dark, his manes were black like his father’s.
He then spotted his big sister Gaeva standing near them as well and a grin broke out on his face. Galloping he swerved among the many other adult and teenage winged unicorns, all grazing peacefully, their wings folded to their sides. Skidding to a halt in front of his parents Geaven endured his mother’s warm nuzzling greeting. Snorting at her he brushed his head on his father’s neck by way of greeting and bounded to his sister who pretended not to notice the foal by turning her back on him. Snorting angrily at her he trotted around her towards her head.
“Hey Gaeva, whatcha do up there?” he asked, throwing his head up at the nearly cloudless sky. Gaeva swivelled one of her ears at him, but continued to graze, not even looking at her little brother and started to turn away again. Geaven didn’t give up so easily and bounded sideways so he’d still be facing her. “Come on, you can tell me, I won’t tell anyone else!” he begged his older sister. At this she turned her eyes on him and raised her head so it was level with his.
“Yeah right, Geaven, the moment I tell you anything you’ll just run off to boast about it to the others.” She blew in his face then and lowered her head to grasp a bit of grass between her soft lips.
“No I won’t! I promise!”
“Well I’m not going to tell you, you wouldn’t understand anything about flying anyway,” Gaeva answered without bothering to look at him.
Pouting Geaven turned away. He just wanted to know what kind of games they played in the air, maybe he could find a way to play them in the water as well then. Why were the older unicorns always so secretive about what they did in the air anyway?
Sighing he went back to his mother and started to pull grass into his mouth, not feeling very hungry until he swallowed his first bite. Looking around him he couldn’t see any of his friends nearby. Pulling loose another mouthful of grass he walked around while munching on it.
“Geaven, come back.”
Turning around Geaven saw his parents looking at him. His father had called him. Annoyed the foal walked back to the two adults.
“You can spare just a few moments with your family can’t you?” his father joked as he reached down to tousle his son’s manes.
Geaven nodded slowly, “Yeah, dad.” But he couldn’t help glancing around for his friends anyway. Still not seeing any he resigned to staying with his parents while he ate.
Re: Geaven's Story

Post by Geaven »

Flying lazily high above the ground Geaven and Arren kept their gaze firmly on a group of foals playing in the lake below. The irony wasn't lost on the two stallions, as they too had played in the same spot when they were but small foals under the protective gaze of the guardians. The two of them were flying slow lazy circles around the playful group below.

Yalla, one of their childhood friends, was with the foals, their official caretaker. Geaven and Arren were simply there for extra protection. Every now and then they would grin or wink at each other, but both stallions remained dignified in their appearance, too proud of their responsibility to appear childish.

The red stallion increased his speed, his black tipped wings carrying him towards Geaven. The blue stallion could tell by the grin on his friend's face that he was in a teasing mood. Rolling his eyes Geaven didn't try to get away from him.

"So what's going on with you and Nirri?" were his friend's first words as he reached his side, his tone too casual to be believable.

"Nothing," Geaven rumbled in his by now very deep voice. He had been an adult for a year now, completed his training along with Arren, and completely comfortable with his telepathy. Except that he was still a loner. Whenever he got close to another he would eventually get annoyed by their shallowness, or their lies, or simply their simple manipulation, thinking he wasn't on to them.

Arren was an exception, because the red stallion never tried to hide the fact that he was a rascal, and Geaven knew that deep down his friend had a good heart. Other than him Geaven spend time with his sister and Nirri, the four of them often seen together when they could all get time off at the same time.

Nirri had begun her training as a healer, her ability turning out to be excellent at spotting, and then taking care of a sickness or injury. While young the light blue female was good at she did, and respected by the herd for her own deeds, no longer just because she was Pirrin's daughter. This had increased her confidence and she had become very pleasant to be around with. Many young stallions tried to get near her, but she only had eyes for her friends. Soon she would be an adult as well, already looking like one, she had just a ceremony to go through to make it official.

"Yeah right," Arren answered sarcastically, "Like anybody is going to believe that." He glanced at Geaven then and the expression on his sobered, "Well, like I'm going to believe that anyway. You're good at hiding your feelings buddy, but I know you. You like her."

To Geaven's surprise there was no teasing tones this time. Looking over to his friend he saw no hidden joke on his face, reaching to his mind he felt no trick waiting to be sprung on him. Turning his gaze back on the playing foals below he didn't reply. The truth was he really did like her, and not just as a filly he felt he must protect, or even just a friend.

"Maybe I do," Geaven mumbled, not feeling like admitting it, but Arren was being serious right now. And he really did want to talk about it.

Becoming his usual self again a huge grin appeared on Arren's face an the red stallion bucked in the air, pretending he was about to hit Geaven on his shoulder with his horn. Geaven didn't fall for it and remained in his steady lazy flight.

"See! I was talking to Gaeva and she didn't believe me! I knew I was right." This time he used his wing to whip Geaven on the back.

"Gaeva?" Geaven asked curiously.

"Yeah, you know, I was trying to get her to go out with me again. I almost got her to say yes too!"

"Yeah right," snorted Geaven. It was a standing joke between Arren and his sister that the red stallion would try to seduce her and his Gaeva would always turn him down. Geaven knew there was nothing but friendship between the two though, it was just a game.

"Anyway, we were talking about Nirri and how well she does for her age..."

"She's only a year younger than us," Geaven interupted, earning himself a snicker from Arren that made him want to go defensive, but he kept his mouth shut. Arren was baiting him.

"I said that her being so mature was probably what was making you so interested in her," Arren said, wriggling his eyebrows in a suggestive manner. This time Geaven didn't hold back and shot out a hoof at his friend's head. The red stallion was too fast though and quickly moved back.

"Easy, big boy! I'm just kidding!" Arren said quickly, his tone teasing and baiting. Geaven took a deep breath, glared at his friend, then returned his attention to the foals below. His teeth were gritted though.

"Whatever it is, I can tell you are really interested in her." His tone had gone serious again and Geaven glanced at him suspiciously.

"Why don't you try to take a step further? Whoa!! that's ot what I meant!" Arren yelled as Geaven stopped short and gave his friend a murderous glare, both hovering now.

"I just mean, you like her, she likes you. You're a boy, she's a girl." Geaven gave his friend no reponse, but his mind was working overtime.

"She's about to become legally chasable, you know."

"What do you mean?"

"She's practically an adult, and already she has many admirers who would be glad to become her suitor is she let them. You've seen them, you manage to scare half of them away with that famous glare of yours."

Geaven snorted a laugh at this. It was true, many stallions would look at Nirri as she walked past, then see his glare and pretend they hadn't looked. But he only did it because he wanted to protect her. He knew what they were thinking when they saw her, they ony saw her beauty, they didn't know her mind.

Arren hadn't said anything for a few moments, just stared at his friend. "So why don't you?" he asked again.

Geaven sighed, "You know why. She's my friend, and she's always ignoring those others stallions, why wouldn't she do the same to me, and then I'd lose a friend. I don't want that. Besides, her father is my mentor and friend."

"She likes you too you know," Arren said softly.

Surprised Geaven looked back at him. They had resumed their slow circling. "What do you mean?"

Arren smiled, but it wasn't teasing, "Gaeva was surprised to hear you were interested in her, mostly because she knew Nirri is interested in you." He snickered loudly and the teasing tone was back, "Apparently has been since you two first met."

"Yeah right," Geaven scoffed, yet didn't sounded absent. What if this was true? Did he really have a chance with her? He always felt at his happiest when he was with her, loving the way she looked, loving her gentle and honest mind, loving the way she cared about everybody and everything. She was so ready to love and accept anybody that he sometimes worried she would be hurt, he wanted to protect her feelings her heart. But he also feared she would accidentally hurt his. But if Arren was telling the truth, then maybe, just maybe...

Geaven looked at Arren again, his gaze confused. The red stallion laughed then winked at him. "Time to head back, wouldn't you say?" Without waiting for a reply Arren dove down tot eh group of foals. "Hey little puppies, time to go back to your mommy's and daddy's!"

Vaguely Geaven heard moans of protests. Making up his min the dark blue stallion dove down as well, "You heard him, back to the herd!" he said loudly, and the foals got out of the water, grumbling yet obeying.

The two stallions herded the group back in silence. All Geaven wanted to do right now was get back and talk to Nirri.

Re: Geaven's Story

Post by Geaven »

Spotting Nirri as he got back to the main group with two stallions about his age Geaven wasn't sure he should go up to her right now. Reaching out with his mind he accidentally brushed the two males' minds. They were admiring Nirri very much, not just her looks, but her skills as well. They had certain plans in mind, plans that would be possible very soon as the filly would be acknowledged as an adult pretty soon now.

Still, their thoughts seemed honorable and Geaven backed his ears, his dark gaze on the light blue female he so wanted to talk to right now. But she was smiling at the other two. Had Arren been wrong? Unsure and feeling a bit embarassed Geaven tore his eyes from them and turned and walked away. He didn't want to reach out to her mind and find out she liked them better than him. No, he couldn't handle a rejection before he'd even offered anything.

Slowly he waled deeper intot he herd, his head hanging low and his eyes on the ground. Not on his guard the blue stallion let his mind wander. Feeling the curiosity of the ones around him as they saw him pass made him aware he was drawing attention to himself this way. Blinking once he raised his head and held it high and with pride he did not feel. By studying other's emotions he knew how to fake something.

Calmly he walked up to his parents who greeted him with a nuzzle each. Exchanging greetings and questions abouttheir days Geaven too lowered his head with them and started to graze. His thoughts were on Nirri though, and wondered what she was doing. Still reluctant to reach out to her with his mind he continued to torture himself this way until the sun started to sink to the horizon far away.

Hearing hoofsteps behind him Geaven turned to see his sister join them. She looked tired and dejected but when their mother asked what was wrong Gaeva refused to explain and silenced them with things like "council secrets" and "information she was not allowed to share". Shaking his head Geaven let her be, yet when he saw she started to relax he shot a tendril of his mind to hers, curious to know what was bothering her, and eager to find something to take his mind of his own problems.

First he encountered only tiredness, and frustration. Then he dug deeper, knowing she would not feel what he was doing if he was careful as she was not a telepath. As usual his sister had been recieving training, learning certain techniques and the history of how problems had been solved on the past. How to learn and adapt those solutions to present problems, how to try and make more people happy with a solution at once. He even caught something on how to manipulate some into thinking all was well. Damage control.

"What are you doing?"

Blinking Geaven realized Gaeva was staring at him, "Nothing," he answered quickly, yet as he said it he heard the guilt in his voice. Her frown shifted to a glare and she turned, then kicked out to her brother, hitting his side with her golden hoof, a muffled thud could be heard.

Grunting Geaven watched the light violet colored mare walk away, stomping her hooves. She might be small, but her kick was hard. Reaching to his side he rubbed the spot she had hit him with his nose.

"What was that all about?" his father asked him surprised.

"Nothing, we're just playing," Geaven answered, but he could see from the look his parents shared they didn't buy it.

"I'm gonna go now," he said before they could continue this and walked away at a fast trot.

The sun was setting by now and the sky was darkening. He looked around for his sister to apologize but didn't see her though her light coat normally stood out in the dark. Stopping he reached out wth his mind, then found her. She had left the general area of the herd and gone beyond the water pool. She must have flown he figured, and unfolded his own wings. Jumpping up he beat his way over there as well.

To his surprise he saw not just his sister, but Nirri as well. Both standing together the two mares were talking quietly. Hovering silently above them they had not seen Geaven yet. Feeling his doubts rise up again he felt undecided. Should he go down to them or just head back?

Nirri looked up at that moment and took the decision from him by smiling and waving him down with her own black tipped wing. Nodding the dark blue stallion dove down. Landing roughly besides his sister he then folded his wings back to his sides, not knowing what to say.

"Hi, Geaven. I figured you'd come," Nirri said friendly and looked at Gaeva who was staring to the ground. The mare's eyes had lost their fierceness and looked empty now. She raised her gaze to regard her brother, "I'm sorry I kicked you," she said simply.

"That's alright," he answered, "I deserved it, I should have pried into your thoughts."

She nodded silently. Surprised Geaven hadn't expected to get clear so easily. Glancing at Nirri he felt there was more going on, but after just having apologized for looking into her thoughts he felt reluctant to do it again.

"I'd best be heading back now," Gaeva said, and jumped up before she had even completely unfolded her wings completely, yet managed to somehow fly away gracefully anyway.

Staring as her form disappeared Geaven didn't know what to say. He was alone with Nirri now, just like he wanted. Turning to look at her he shifted uncomfortably. The light blue filly was still looking at where Gaeva had been and he got a good view of her profile. His mind softened, just as she turned to look back up at him. While taller than Gaeva, Nirri was still much smaller than Geaven, like most in the herd.

"She's sad, but I don't know why. She won't tell me."

"What?" It took Geaven a moment to figure out Nirri had spoken about Gaeva, "Right, I don't know either. That's what I was trying to figure out."

"That wasn't a very good way to go about it, Geaven," she said teasingly accusing.

He grinned and shook his head in agreement, "I guess. I was just being stupid."

"Nah, you were just being concerned," she replied and walked closer to rub the bridge of her nose against his chin. Something she did more often yet it seemed to have a different meaning ater his talk with Arren. Uncomfortable he didn't move.

Surprised Nirri backed off, "Is something wrong?" she asked.

"Not really." He couldn't lie to her though. "I don't know really."

Not replying she looked at him, waiting for more, yet not wanting to push him. It was how she was. Geaven smiled, she was still the same Nirri he knew, just older, wiser. Definitely smarter than him. And kinder. And...

"Do you like me?" he said calmly.

Surprised she snorted and he swallowed.

"What do you mean? Of course I do," she answered, yet he could hear something odd in her voice. Unable to help himself he reached out and brushed her mind. She knew what he meant.

"You know what I mean," he said and couldn't help but put in a teasing tone in his voice. He had gotten the confirmation he had been looking for from her mind and his heart was beating very fast now. The sky was darkening though and he realized Nirri probably couldn't see his happy dark face as well as he could see her frowning light one.

"I guess I do," she answered then moved her head forwards and gave his horn a slap with her own, creating an angry spark. Surprised he snorted and took a step back, what was that for??"

"You shouldn't poke around other people's mind, Geaven!"

Surprised once more he didn't understand. He saw her angry face and felt her angry thoughts, but didn't understand her meaning. How had she known? He had only brushed her thoughts. Nirri was no telepath, how had she known??

"I know I shouldn't, I'm sorry..." he said quickly in apology.

"And you shouldn't mock other people's feelings even if you do think it's a good joke," she continued angrily, though he thought he heard some hurt in her voice as well. Confused he tried to respond but she went on.

"So I do happen to like you more like a friend, it's not like I display it or something and I never bothered you with it either."

Geaven was starting to get the idea now, she had misunderstood. "I..." He didn't get any further.

"But it's not fair for you to joke about it, it's not like I can control it!" she said louder and louder, and Geaven was glad they were not near the herd, they could have misunderstood her raised voice.

"So just leave it alone and I will too!"

Geaven could hear Nirri panting and could see her eyes moistening, though she no longer looked back at him. She probably couldn't see his face anymore in the rapidly darkening sky.

"Are you done now?" He asked, then would have asked Gaeva to kick him again when Nirri's head shot up.

"No, stop, that's what I meant!" he rushed to say and cut her off before she could respond with the fire he could feel emanating from her mind. "I never meant to make fun of you, Nirri, how would you think such a thing. I never got this from your mind, I wouldn't do that. I talked to..." after her fierce response he suddenly felt reluctant to betray Arren to her.

"I talked to somebody and came to a realization. I didn't mean to make fun of your feelings, I just wanted to tell you I share them."

Nirri didn't respond right away and he knew her mind was fast at work.

"What do you mean?" se fnally said and it took some self control not to laugh for him.

"You know what I mean," he said simply. Pleased he heard an amused snort from Nirri. Moving a few steps closer to her he lowered his head to hers and rested his forehead on hers, leaning his cheek against her golden horn.

Geaven felt her surprise yet he also felt some joy growing in her.

"You mean it?" she asked uncertain.

He nodded, moving her head with the motion as well. "Yeah I mean it, I love you, Nirri. Always have, always will. I want you with me always."

"I want to be with you always as well," she answered and pressed her head closer to his.

Feelin secure now Geaven reached out with his mind to hers, but instead of just sensing what she felt, he transfered his feelings over to her.

Standing in the moonlight now the two winged unicorns didn't move, simply feeling their love for each other, and the love the other had as well. It was well after midnight before they returned to the herd.
Re: Geaven's Story

Post by Geaven »

Geaven and an older stallion named Gealish flew fast and quick over the hilly plains, their eyes searching the ground and skies around them closely, searching for the returning scouts. It had been a day since they were supposed to have returned and still no sign from them. Geaven felt worried because Arren was one of them, but this was no time to let his emotions take control of him, they had to find the other two.

Arren and a mare named Yalynia had gone off after a strange report from a flock of birds passing through. A group of humans had settled three valleys away from Geaven's herd almost a year ago. They had hardly had any contact with the two legged ones and eventually, after several months of anxiety and a lot of discussion thrown about the winged unicorns had settled down again, confident they had nothing to fear from the reputed hunters.

Guard duty had been increased though, and always were there stallions or mares circling their herd, keeping an eye out for anything out of the ordinairy. Other creatures and animals had also asked to share in their protection, fearful of the human creatures so much was said about.

Geaven and Nirri had been mated for three months when the first word about the humans came, but it did not affect their lives much except for the fact that Geaven now had to leave her behind more often to take his part in the patrols. It was his duty as a Guardian, and one he took very seriously. Nirri was used to it as her father was the Head Guardian, she knew the duty and habits of one.

Still, she was heavy with foal now, expecting to deliver any day. Geaven wanted to be with her, be able to keep her company and offer her protection when labor came upon her. He knew she'd leave the herd before then, wanting to be alone when it happened. The dark blue stallion still remembered when he and his friend Arren had sneaked away and accidentally intruded upon Pirrin and his mate's moment of privacy right after Nirri had been born.

But when they heard that Arren and Yalynia still had not returned after investigating that odd fire, seen even from here, Geaven had gotten worried. Still, Nirri and their future foal were more important to him and so he had not said anything to her. But she had found out anyway, and urged her mate to help find their mutual friend.

Reluctantly Geaven had done so, leaving Nirri with her mother. In pairs several of the Guardians had taken off, searching for their lost comrades. But the sun was setting and still no clue had been found.

"We better head back now," Gealish suddenly commented, throwing his wings in front of him to stop his fast flight. Geaven followed the older stallion's example and hovere din place as well, his wings gently beating the air.

"Not yet, Gealish, we have to find them, none of the others have found anything either yet." He had checked just a little while ago, his telepathy as usual coming in handy, yet delivering disappointing results.

"I know Arren is your friend, but what can we do? For all we know they aren't even around here. What do you want to do, go to the human village??"

When Geaven didn't answer the older stallion widened his eyes, "You have got to be kidding, we're supposed to stay from there. We can't risk provoking them, for all we know the humans don't even know we are around, there's no need to give them ideas!"

"But the fires, they came from the village, you know that."

"That was only speculated, Geaven, we don't know for sure."

"But if they did, then that's where Arren and Yalynia went, and that's where we should be looking now!"

The other stallion, grey in color, didn't answer right away, then he sighed, shaking his head sadly, "No Geaven. We can't risk this. If the humans follow us back, find the herd, do you have any idea what kind of danger we'd be bringing back? You know what they say about humans. Isn't your mate expecting a foal? Do you want to risk them?"

Backing his ears Geaven glared back at the grey stallion, not bothering with a reply to that. "But what if these humans are different? Maybe they aren't like the stories, we don't know, we've never even seen them from up close!"

"Do you really want to get close enough to find out they truelly are the murdering beast we've heard they are?"

"Even more reson to get those away from them then, if they are there."

"Arren and Yalynia are Guardians, and they know what they are doing. They would give their lives to protect the herd, just like you or I would. Remember that, kid."

Feeling his protest eb away Geaven let his head hang a little, then breathed in deeply before releasing it. "You're right. You're right, Gealish."

Sadly the dark blue stallion casted a final glance about him, then both of them swooped around, and flew back to the herd, their heads lower than when they had set out.

Re: Geaven's Story

Post by Geaven »

Geaven woke up the following from a nuzzle. Opening his eyes the big stallion raised his head to look into Nirri's violet eyes. Smiling he nuzzled her back. Noting that the sun was already up he decided it was time to start the day.

Getting up carefully so as not to disturb Nirri's large and very pregnant body, he then helped her get up by supporting her with his own weight. Touching his cheek with her nose in gratitude the beautiful pale blue mare stretched her wings. Doing the same Geaven looked about, remembering the day before.

He saw no sign of Arren or any of the Guardians returning from their night shift. Sighing his ears lowered in worry.

"He can take care of himself, Geaven," Nirri whispered into hs ear. The morning was still young and a silenced hush reigned over the herd, most still asleep.

"Don't try to cheer me up, I just know something is wrong."

Her smile faded and he instantly regretted the words. Reaching out he touched her nose with his own, "I'm sorry, I'm just tred of hearing that."

"He's my friend as well, remember? You're not the only one who is worried, but worrying won't help."

Sometimes Geaven wondered if Nirri wasn't secretly a telepath as well. Smiling at her he moved closer and placed his neck around Nirri's, his head resting against hers. Not moving the remained standing like this for a while, eyes closed.

Suddenly though Geaven felt something and his eyes shot open. One of the Guardians on patrol had just spotted something! Lifting his head from Nirri's neck he looked up, searching the sky while trying to figure out what was going on.

"What's wrong?" Nirri asked, worry suddenly thick in her voice, her ears backed.

"I don't know, nothing I think," Geaven replied, his dark blue eyes still on the sky. Then he saw the white mare whose mind had caught his attention. She was far away and hard to see against the clouds, but he knew where to look for her. She was hovering and looking away from the herd. In the direction of the human village he thought.

Taking an unconscious step in that direction a sound from Nirri made him blink and turn back to her.

"Go, tell me what is happening," she said before he could speak though.

Gratefully Geaven nodded and touched her nose once more before leaping to the sky. Several others had gone up as well he noticed, the other telepathic Guardians. Together they flew over to the white mare, but before they even reached her Geaven understood her excitement. He could see the clear red form of his friend Arren, Yalynia by his side.

"It's Arren, he's back!" he quickly informed Nirri, feeling happy and relieved emotions returned by her. Grinning Geaven, like the other winged unicorns gathered in the sky now, hovered in happy anticipation.

It took a while for the two to reach them, but they waited pateintly. Meanwhile word had spread among the herd and everybody was awake now. Soon geaven noticed that among the Guardians others had joined as well, wanting to see if it really was true. Finally one of the Council and Gaeva joined, Pirrin by their side.

Geaven could see the grin on his friend's face as he approached them, and relief finally flooded him as well. They were alright.

"Arren, Yalynia!" Pirrin called out the moment the mare and stallion slowed down, their wings beating slowly to keep them in the air still.

"Where have you been!" he asked, trying to sound harsh, but Geaven could hear by his voice the Head Guardian was relieved as well.

"The human village, Pirrin," the mare answered. Geaven thought she sounded tired.

"We're sorry we stayed away for so long, but we couldn't leave..." Geaven felt suspicions rise right away. "We had to help them." Surprise and curiosity showed now in the gathered ones' minds, Geaven's as well. What did Arren mean?

The mare took up again, "The humans' village had been caught by a spring flood. They were not aware that our rivers flood during this season and build their homes too close to the water. Their lives were in danger and we felt obligated to help them."

Surprise grew at these words and Geaven stared at his friend. They had helped humans? Come into close contact with them? And come away unscathed? Eager to hear more he started asking questions, but so did all the others gathered, creating a chaos of shouted questions and startled exclamations.

Geaven's ear turned to the side when he heard the Council member call for silence. Obeying himself othrs did not, simply because they had not heard him. To his surprise his sister then called out, louder than the old stallion had and silence followed finally. He was amazed by the command that he had heard in her voice.

"Go on," Gaeva finally said to Arren and Yalynia. Geaven carefully probed the council member's mind, knowing he was not one of th telepaths and thus would not notice it. Apparently he had somehow given his sister a sign to take over. The stallion was old and did not want to waste energy yelling.

"We first saw a small child trapped on the roof of one of their houses, surrounded by the river's water. We came closer to see if we could help, but then the humans saw us. Some were in boats, others clung to other items to stay afloat, but not all had something to keep themselves safe. They saw us and called out to us for help," Yalynia said and her eyes spoke volumes of how she had felt, torn between obeying and staying hidden from the humans, and helping when asked for aid.

"We helped them," Arren finished when it became obvious the mare would not. "It took a while to get them all safe and back together. Then we helped them find a better spot to rebuild their village."

Geaven felt his friend hesitate and Yalynia lowered her eyes, nervous for some reason. He wondered what was up.

"We promised them we'd come back with more help," Arren said, trying to sound normal, but it was obvious he was bracing himself.

"What?!" Pirrin exploded, "You did what??"

"Pirrin, they are nice. They mean no harm and need help desperately," Arren said quickly, sounding defensive. Geaven didn't blame him. Not only did the humans now know they lived here, they knew there were others as well. Humans they had been taught were dangerous.

"What do they expect from us?" Gaeva suddenly asked. Pirrin looked over to her, not cutting in.

Relieved the red stallion looked at her instead It was easier facing a friend than your surperior. "They asked for protection from predators while they have no homes to keep them safe. And the aid of our magic to speed up the process of their building, and growing their crops."

"We can do that," Gaeva said, and almost all heads snapped in her direction. For the first time since speaking up the violet mare seemed unsure under all those stares. Geaven saw her glance at the Council member for support, he nodded at her. Feeling a bit more secure she continued, "They already know we are here and what we can do. We would be cruel to deny them help and support. It is our duty to help others when we can," she said and Geaven smiled.

Her tone of voice was so sincere, he was convinced that what she said was right. Looking around he saw other smiling and nodding as well. They all agreed. Giving a signal with her wing given usually by a member of the council Gaeva indicated they all descend now. Obeying the signal even though she was not yet offically a leader they all started to glide down.

Once there they were joined by others, but Gaeva cut them all off and led Arren and Yalynia with her to where the other council members waited for them. The old stallion following as well, a satisfied smile on his face.

Watching all this Geaven did not notice Nirri's approach until she nuzzled his manes. Startled he turned his head and looked down at her.

"Everything alright?" she asked.

"I think so. Gaeva's taking care of it," he replied and his mate nodded as if that was the right thing to expect. He could tell she was distracted though.

"Something wrong, Nirri?" he asked, his turn to be worried again.

"I think it's almost time," the light blue mare replied with a little smile.

His eyes widening Geaven forgot all about his sister and Arren and the humans. He was about to become a father! Grinning he nodded at her. Not noticing all the excited talk around them the two of them walked off, wanting to be alone for the birth of their first foal. And as Nirri was now too heavy to be able to fly well or at all they had to walk.

Leaning against each other they walked from the herd, eagerly yet nervously moving towards the expantion of their family.

Re: Geaven's Story

Post by Geaven »

Nervously Geaven held Nirri's head with his own as she laid down on the soft green spring grass, feeling the last bit of pain go through her body and mind as the foal came out. Panting Nirri's body suddenly went limp and Geaven looked down at her. Lying down himself he could not see the foal as his mate's body hid it from his view.

Lowering his head he nuzzled her face until she raised it to meet his gaze, then smiled. She carefully raised herself to her side and moved to look behind her. Geaven meanwhile got back to his hooves as she no longer rested on him for support. Standing up he saw a litte slick body come into his view, then once more he could see no more as Nirri moved over it, cleaning it.

Anxious and eager the stallion made a little hop to the side and lowered his head as he took a couple of steps closer. Finally he could see it. Nirri was washing the foal as if an expert of many years, but Geaven didn't notice. Getting closer he saw a pale blue body emerge and some violet hair on it's neck. He saw a mess of tiny blue feathers, wet and sticky still until Nirri took care of them. A tiny hint of a golden stub on it's forehead assured him the foal was complete. Then it suddenly moved, the movement sudden and unexperienced.

Startled Geaven took a step back, snorting and his eyes wide. Nirri looked over at him, surprised, then amused. As the foal started to make more movements it became clear it was trying to get up. Nirri was first though, and Geaven stopped staring at the foal to help her. It wasn't necessary though as she no longer had all that weight to weigh her down. Standing side by side the two adults looked down at the little blue foal as it made some brave efforts to get up on it's legs, though it mostly just managed to tip over on it's side.

"It's a girl," Nirri whispered in his ear and he jumped again, not having noticed her moving closer to speak to him. Blinking he realized he hadn't noticed that yet. Slowly his stunned look of incomprehension started to fade into a smile, and then a huge grin.

"A daughter," he said happily. Geaven suddenly felt himself be filled with pride and energy. He wanted to rear up, gallop around, take to the sky and scream he was the new father of a beautiful little daughter! His sides heaving as adrenaline filled him he suddeny felt a light touch on his flank and turned to face his mate again.

"Calm down, you'll scare her!" Nirri advised him with an amused smile.

Nodding quickly Geaven agreed, though finding it difficult. Lowering his head he sniffed the small foal, which caught her attention. Still lying down on the ground with her legs folded beneath her the foal turned her head, curious as to what just happened when she felt something touch her. Suddenly she spotted the two large figures and looked up at them, nearly tipping over with the movement.

Laughing Nirri flicked her tail and lowered her head, urging the foal to keep trying to get up. The foal got the hint and made some more efforts. Getting her front up on her hooves wasn't that hard, it was getting her hindlegs to join in as well that made it hard. Whinnying softly in laughter Geaven lowered his head, then nudged her behind to help her up. It worked, suddenly the light blue foal was upright.

Feeling so proud he could burst Geaven snorted joyfully, once more drawing his daughter's attention to him instead of her legs, and made her tip over once more.

Both parents couldn't help laughing at her surprised look. They let her get up on her own the second time and turned their heads to each other, "Meali?" Nirri asked, naming the name they had pretty much agreed on for a girl weeks earlier. Geaven nodded, grinning.

"Hey, Meali," he called softly to the foal. She turned towards the sound, then made some kind of throaty sound in return.

"You hear that? She's answering you," Nirri said happily and moved to rest her head on Geaven's neck, brrowing into his manes. Geaven barely noticed as he watched his newborn daughter as she made her first few efforts into this new world. She was strong he saw, she didn't back down when she failed to get up and managed to get up again, then walked almost immediately without falling down.

Nirri moved away from Geaven then and moved to stand beside her daughter. Geaven stayed where he was, watching his pale blue mate and their little blue daughter moving slowly forwards side by side, Nirri watching over their baby, he watching over their family.

Feeling a lump rise in his throat Geaven knew there was no way he'd be able to keep his eyes dry all day long, not while he watched his daughter. So he didn't bother trying. It was just him, Nirri and Meali, and they were all that mattered right now. Slowly he walked to the foal's other side as she finally reached to her mother and search for milk. Geaven and Nirri simply gazed into each other's eyes for a while. Together they could face everything and get through it. And together they spend the whole day together, not one moment thinking of the herd or anything but each other.

Re: Geaven's Story

Post by Geaven »

A little agitated Geaven soared through the sky, Gaeva at his side, Arren on her other. He hadn't wanted leave Meali behind. The foal was only 2 months old and her parents were always doting on her, giving her every bit of attention they could give her. Now they both had to leave her at the same time for the very first time in her young life.

But the human affair had gotten a bit out of hand over the months and the council had decided to send Gaeva with some Guardians and Healers over to their new village and talk to them. Geaven had been one of the chosen, Arren the other. Nirri was one of the four Healers send along, the four best they had.

He had been to the human village several times already as they had helped them rebuild their homes in a safer place, and even used their magic as asked to speed up their crops. The humans though had come to ask the herd for favours rather often though and the winged unicorns were gettng a bit nervous about it. Now though it seemed a real emergency had come up.

A human woman had come to their herd, the first time one of them had come this close to Geaven's home. She came to ask for help as a sickness had come to their village. It had been little over a week since the humans asked for any kind of favour, which they usually did by bird, so the unicorns had finally started to relax again when suddenly the woman turned up among the midst. Nervous the herd waited as the council quickly gathered and made a decision.

According to the human a Phoenix with great magical powers had already been questioned, but had ot been able to help them, this sickness was beyond his help. Desperate the humans turned to the winged unicorns instead, hopeful that maybe they could do something.

Now the woman rode on Nirri's back as the kind pale blue mare had agreed to carry the human back to her home as they went to help. Geaven didn't like this, the mere thought of his beloved mate being used as a horse was insulting. But she had voluntered, and as he had started to protest she had quieted him with a single look as only Nirri could.

The seven unicorns finally started their descent as they neared the village, then finally landed in the small town's square. Already the village looked inhabited and well used, even though it had been only two months since they started building. The help of the unicorns was apparent.

The humans turned their heads to stare at the party as they normally did, though by now they only gaped for a few seconds, then moved on to their business. Geaven noticed they barely stopped to stare this time. They must really be getting used to us, he thought with a shrug.

Walking over to Nirri he glared at the woman she got down, then moved beside his mate to block the woman off before she could even thank her. Nirri frowned at him, but Geaven pretended not to notice. He was feeling nervous and didn't know why. His thoughts kept returning to Meali and wondered what she was doing. Had she noticed both her parents were gone by now? He knew his own parents would watch her carefully and not let any harm come to her, but he still wished he was back with the herd so he could do it himself.

Absently he saw the one in charge of the village approach them and Gaeva walked forwards to meet him. They spoke a few words, then the man led his sister to a large building he knew was used for communal purposes. He guessed it was where the sick were. Lifting his head a little he frowned, the village smelled funny.

"What?" Arren asked his friend curiously.

"What's that smell?" Geaven asked roughly, not able to hide the fact he didn't want to be here.

Raising his nose Arren too inhaled, "Medicines I guess. They tend to smell foul I have heard. With so many sick they would need more of it."

It seemed like a reasonable explanation. Gaeva had disappeared inside the building and now came back out. She signaled the healers to come over. Nuzzling Geaven Nirri left with the other three. Geaven stared at her until her pale blue form disappeared from his view. Gaeva looked at him a few moments longer, then she too left to go back inside. The door closed behind her and Geaven sighed.

Turning away fromt he building he looked around, eager to find something to make the time pass faster. His and Arren's healing abilities were too small to be of much use. Cuts and the like Geaven could heal if they were not too bad, but a sickness, not caused by poisining, was way out of his league.

"So whatcha wanna do?" Arren asked lightly obviously trying to cheer him up.

"Shut up, Arren," Geaven growled, and his friend got the hint. In silence they walked through the village, supposedly on patrol. Lost in thoughts Geaven didn't pay much to his surroundings, he already knew the place after all. It wasn't after quite a while though that he realized that weren't a lot of people outside.

"Kind of quiet," he commented.

"Talking again are we?" Arren asked with humor.

Geaven didn't respond to that.

"All right, all right. I guess there are more sick than we thought then."

Geaven nodded silently, that would explain it. Still, now that it had caught his attention he looked around more carefully. After they had crossed the mean square for the so manieth time he was sure that wasn't the correct explanation though.

"I don't think they are sick, they are avoidng us," he said quietly so only Arren could hear. "When they see us coming they turn to go into some side alley or something. And I can sense many of them inside. Normally they don't stay inside during the day when the weather is this good."

"Maybe they are too worried about their sick to do any work," Arren said slowly, not really sounding convinced as he too started to look about. "Or maybe they are afrad of catching the same disease?" He suggested as he turned to look at Geaven.

The dark blue stallion shook his head, "Then why avoid us?"

They both came to a stop and shared a look. Without saying anything they turned back to the main square, then walked to the large building their friends had gone into. Stopping at the closed double wooden doors the two stallion looked at each other again. Then Geaven closed his mind and reached out for Nirri.

"Are you alright?" he asked her carefully, not wishing to disturb her while she was working.

Her untrained mind answered, "Healing. Hard."

Geaven opened his eyes again and frowned.

"What?" asked Arren who lacked the telepathic ability as well.

"She says they are still healing, but she sounded a bit odd. Weak."

"It must be taking a lot out of them if even that phoenix couldn't help the humans," Arren said by way of explanation.

Geaven didn't reply, his frown increasing. "I'm going inside," he said suddeny and Arren raised his head, surprised.

The dark blue stallion lowered his head to reach the metallic handle on the wooden door and try to open it when suddenly he heard running footsteps come towards them. A young man suddenly stood by their side, obviously out of breath.

"What are you doing?" he panted, his eyes wide as if in fear.

"I wish to go inside and see how they are doing," Geaven said in the official voice he usually assumed when being asked about his duties.

"You can't disturb them!" the man exclaimed. Geaven frowned at him, not recognising him and thus knowing that this young creature wasn't in charge of anything going on here.

"I'll decide that," he replied, his voice soft and his eyes on the man's. Arren turned to frown at the man as well. The human seemed to remember the stallions were quite huge and easily hurt him with a simply kick. Backing off quickly he stood at a safer distance now. It was then that Geaven realized the man was hiding something.

Alarmed the stallion didn't bother asking what he was hiding and dove into the man's mind. To his shock he saw that they had walked into a trap. Snorting loudly he pulled back out of the man's mind, who had noticed nothing of what he had done, and turned back to the door.

"It's a trap, they're in danger," Geaven growled to Arren as he reared up, then simply let his whole weight down on the doors. They flew open under the pressure of his bulk and both stallion trotted inside, the man yelling behind them to stop. Arren kicked out once and the voice went silent.

Re: Geaven's Story

"Nirri, stop, we have to get out of here," he sent to his mate urgently.

"Yes..." was her vague reply.

Worried Geaven tried to go to a gallop, but the hallway was too narrow and the turns to small for him to go faster than a trot. Finally they reached a new set of wooden doors and both stallion reared up this time, their combined strength reducing the doors to splinters.

A large open area with many beds on either side greeted their sight. Geaven spotted his sister first, she was on her hindlegs at the very back,a group of humans around her, shouting something at her. Not waiting another second he ran through the splinters to the back, Arren hot on his heels.

"Geaven!" Gaeva yelled as she saw him, still on her hindlegs as though trying to stay away from the humans. Her wings were spread out to either side of her, but with the ceiling so low she couldn't go up.

The humans looked back and saw the two large stallions run up to them, their golden hooves clanging loudly on the wooden floor. Quickly they spread out to get away from them, convinced they were about to be speared or trampled. Gaeva let herself fall back down on her hooves and looked off to the side, then the other, then finally back at her brother and Arren. Both stallions nearly slipped as they tried to come to a quick stop on the slippery floor.

"What happened?" Geaven demanded, then looked to the side as well. He saw Nirri lying on the floor, looking limp. Feeling his stomach freeze over he moved over to her, letting himself fall to the floor as well as he moved her head closer to his chest.

"Nirri said to stop," he heard Gaeva explain to Arren, "Geaven had told her to. Then suddenly they all started to collapse to the ground. The humans wanted me to take over, that's when you came in."

"Why? What's going on?" Geaven demanded as he turned to look at his sister.

"I don't know," she replied, but she was walking towards a group of humans that hadn't managed to get around Arren to run out of the room. She had singled out a man with grey hair and beard.

"What did you do to us?" she demanded of him, Arren taking up a position behind her, looking intimidating as he lowered his golden horn in the man's direction.

"You need to heal them all, only a unicorn's power can save them, please," the man replied, his eyes shifting from aeva to Arren. Geaven stopped looking at them, and lowered his head back to Nirri's. She was awake, but her eyes were closed. Not knowing what to say or ask for fear of what the answer could be he simply said nothing. Closing his eyes he leaned his forehead against her cheek, his horn resting against her skin.

Re: Geaven's Story

Post by Geaven »

"Geaven, don't," Nirri suddenly said, though her voice was weak. Startled he opened his eyes and raised his head again, looking down at her.

"What?" he asked confused.

"Your horn, don't touch me," she said, her voice softer.

Confused Geaven turned his head back at Gaeva and Arren and saw they were still talking to the man.

"The only way to heal them is by taking the poison...!" the man suddenly shouted, sounding defeated.

His eyes widening Geaven looked back down at Nirri. What did that mean? That she would die instead of the humans she had cured? Looking about at the beds he saw figures lying in some of them, though most were empty. There couldn't have been that many, and unicorns were resistant against poison, there would be no danger. He looked back down at Nirri. Then why was she like this??

Suddenly he heard a commotion behind him and looked back to see Arren chase the humans out of the room, whinniying threatingly as his hooves thundered over the wooden floor. He could clearly feel the fear eminating from the fleeing humans.

Gaeva suddenly appeared at his side, looking down at him and Nirri. "The phoenix, he didn't heal them because he knew it would kill him instead, no resurection to get him back. He must have known they were not worth it," she said quietly.

Not comprehending what she was getting at he backed his ears, silent. "We didn't know Geaven," she said with a sigh, "I only started to help at the end when they were starting to get tired, I don't think I got enough inside me..." His eyes widening Geaven looked closer at his sister, now only noticing she too didn't look too good.

"I don't feel anything, just tired," she said reassuringly, but Geaven wasn't sure he believed her. But he now had accidentally accepted that what was happening was going to kill Nirri.

He looked back down at her, her eyes still closed, her side slowly rising and lifting with her breath. "No, we'll get some healers," he started to say but Gaeva interupted him.

"And kill them as well? It's the only way to cure this disease, but taking it as your own."

"Then I'll take it," Geaven said suddenly, lowering his head to touch his horn to Nirri's cheek once more.

"Geaven no, I got too much, I can feel it killing me...thre were too many..." Nirri spoke with great difficulty, trying to shift her head away from his touch. Suddenly Geaven was thrown onto his side, Nirri's head slipping to the ground from his forelegs as he had slid them below her.

Stunned Geaven shook his head, his eyes wide as he rolled back up. He had shoved a bed away without even noticing it. He stared up at Gaeva in surprise. She had pushed him.

"She's right. I'm not as good a healer, but all you'd manage to do was take part of the disease before she'd die. Then you'd both be dead." She lowered her head closer to her brother's, "Then who'll take care of Meali?"

Feeling a total panic take him over Geaven simply stared back at her, trying not to hear her words. "You're wrong, I can help her," he said, knowing he wasn't much a healer.

"You can't," Nirri said. With great difficulty she had lifted her head and opened her eyes to look at her mate. Geaven got back up on his hooves and lowered his head to the same height as hers.

"I could feel it happening while curing the last ones."She took a deep breath to continue, "By then it was too late to stop and live so we continued. We knew." Panting she stopped as he head drooped. Geaven quickly tried to help support her again.

"That's why you stopped me," Gaeva suddely said to the pale blue mare. "You wouldn't explain but told me to stop trying," Gaeva continued her voice sounding accusing.

"Too late for us, you could still live..." Nirri said and it sounded like an apology to Geaven. Her words however had shot him in the heart and he could feel he was losing himself along with her.

"No Nirri, you'll..." he couldn't say it, he knew it wasn't true. Her mind spoke as well as her voice. She knew it to be true, she would not live for much longer.

''Hush Geaven, I don't have much time," Nirri whispered. A soft sound told Geaven his sister was crying, bt he didn't look at her.

"Goodbye Gaeva, you've been a good friend. You'll find your place, don't let them rush you." Geaven didn't know what Nirri meant by that. His sister reached down and touched the blue mare's nose with her own, a touch a goodbye, and then pulled back.

Geaven remained and again he settled down to the floor, letting his mate lean against him. "Geaven..." she started, her voice weak, but he hushed her, instead opening his mind to her. Through the link he created with her mind she let her love flow to him. Geaven did similarly and closed his eyes as she did as well. They had done this before, but never had it felt so strong. Neither was holding back anything, throwing all their feelings for each other up in the air. It was the only way for Geaven to tell her how much he loved her.

It wasn't until she stirred that he realized he was crying, his tears falling on her forehead. She tried to say something but no words came out. Weakly clearing her throat she spoke again, "Tell Meali..love her," it was obvious to Geaven she had meant to say more, but her strength had finally left her. He felt her body go limp again and slowly her mind seemed to drift away from his grasp. Foolishly Geaven tried to hang on with all the mental power he had. He knew if he wasn't careful he could accidentally follow her this way, but he couldn't make himself care.

Suddenly he heard Nirri's voice in his mind, clearer than he had ever mentally heard her before, "No Geaven, you still have much to do. Be careful, you're needed." To his utter amazement he could feel Nirri's mind untangling from his grasp, and he knew she was doing it herself. She had never been this strong before....or had she? "I love you," she added when he stopped trying to fight her in his confusion.

Not able to do anything about it Geaven felt her drift away from him until she was no more. Opening his eyes he looked down and saw her still body. His mate was gone. His tears still running the stallion didn't move for quite a while.

When he did he felt tired and old. His wings were hanging limply by his sides, his head drooping close to the ground. he spotted his sister and Arren with the other three healers on the other side of the room. He guessed they had tried to comfort them as he had done with Nirri. He didn't care.

Slowly he moved on to where the doors had been befor ehe and Arren had smashed them in. Before he reached them he heard hooves behind him as Gaeva and Arren joined him.

As they finally stepped outside Geaven felt tricked by the cheery sun shinging down on them as if nothing had just happened. His cheeks still wet he couldn't cry anymore though. Still in silence they walked onto the village square where they had landed, now missing four of them.

Suddenly Geaven spotted a group of people staring at them. Unable to stop himself or even think he found himself galloping towards them. Suddenly something light in color blocked his path as Gaeva caught up to him and then stopped her brother from attacking the scared people. Panting in anger Geaven glared at his sister as she continued to block him.

He tried to go around her, but she simply moved with him. Geaven would have to forcibly knock her to the side to get to them. He nearly did.

"Nirri just saved them, knowing at the end she was giving up her own life to do so, will you now kill them anyway and make her sacrifice worthless?" she said roughly as he once more tried to make her move to the side.

Geaven didn't try to make her move again. She was right, Nirri had admitted she knew she would die if she continued. Why had she done that? His mind racing he couldn't understand. He led himself be led by his much smaller sister as if he were a foal, only glancing back once to the humans.

The three winged unicorns didn't take to the sky, neither of them feeling strong enough to do so. Walking along the plains and forests that seperated them from their herd they didn't feel up to flying until the sky was touching the horizon. The three young creatures arrived back at the herd when the sky was dark. The herd knew something was wrong as one of the Guardians on patrol had tried to reach Geaven telepathically when he noticed their approach, and hadn't gotten a reply.

Landing the three were welcomed with worried whispers and stares. Geaven ignored them all, including Pirrin's demands about where the Healers were, where Nirri, his only daughter, was. Pushing through the crowd he reached his parents. He ignored their worried questioning glances and laid down on the ground next to his sleeping daughter. Placing his head besides hers he closed his eyes and let the world slip from his mind as he felt her tiny body against his.
I see that Geaven may be more like Lep than I thought. Hmmm...does explain why they don't like humans, like you said. Seems like my Cortina is the only one who fully likes them. Two of my characters, Lep and Devil, don't really know the humans well enough so is so-so don't care with them. And Amy is only have liking them because she knows that though they can be good, they can be terrible too. But Cortina was healed by a little girl and all. Sad....Maybe I should write a story about her. Hmmmm.....*looks up and sees is way off topic*
Gotta go back to school work, bye!

Umber is like Devil and Lep, he hasn't really met any humans before so he doesn't care much.
Here's the final 2 post.

*******************************
*******************************

Standing on a hilltop some distance from the herd Geaven looked out over the grasslands below. There was a firm breeze that lifted his maned and tal behind him as the large stallion stood completely still. He had been standing there for a while now, waiting for his sister after she had asked to meet him there at sunset. He'd arrived a bit too early though and stood now waiting, lost in his thought.

The familiar wingbeat told him his sister was there, reaching out to her mind confirmed it. Silently the much smaller mare landed next to him and folded her black tipped wings to her sides. Turning his head to look at her Geaven saw she tired, yet something was different about his sister. She felt determined.

It was more than a month after Nirri's death and still Geaven hadn't gotten over it. He had become withdrawn, silent, unaproachable as he had been in his teens. Once more he was avoided except by his closest friends and fellow Guardians. Out of respect nobody tried to talk him out his sorrow. Geaven had build up a reputation of strength in the years before. Bus his sister had changed as well, she had become more serious, silent, and worked even harder so he saw her even less than normal.

Silently he waited for her to speak, watching her profile as her violet manes were dancing behind her as well. He felt relaxed, as if his problems were about to be solved.

"I'm leaving the herd," Gaeva finally said as she lowered her gaze to the grasslands below.

Surprised Geaven stared at her, he hadn't expected that.

"Leaving? Why?"

"I'm not sure," she replied with a sigh and held her head closer to her neck, closing her eyes for a moment. "But I think that I don't belong here..."

Geaven cut in, "That's ridiculous!"

"That's not what I meant, little brother," Gaeva replied and looked at him, rolling her eyes in good humor. Geaven settled down again.

"I have been training to be on council for years now, it is all I have been doing since I was a teen, it is all I know how to do. But the problem is, I can't do it."

Silently Geaven watched her. He knew she'd had problems with the council and had had a suspicion Nirri had known more about it, but he had never asked, knowing she would not tell him. But lately, ever since the humans had come into their lives, she had been given more and more responsibilities, taken charge often, taking the place of a council member though she was still too young to do so. The herd had come to regard her as the voice of the Council, obeying her like they would one of them, so what was the problem? To Geaven it looked like she was doing great.

"I can't get my abilities to work..." she continued, looking away again, this time in the oposite direction so her flowing manes would block his view to her face.

"What are you talking about?" he asked curiously. His sister was his senior so obviously would have developed her abilities long before him. And she had, hadn't she? "You can heal, you're fast, you lead..." he listed as he looked up, thinking. Stopping he realized to his great surprise that she had no major magical ability, something that had escaped him his entire life for some reason. Maybe that was it, he was so used to her presence, he didn't really think about her abilities.

"I'm barely a healer, not that much better than you," Gaeva replied, not knowing Gaven had already come to the conclusion she was heading to by himself. "Being fast is just the way I'm build, and leading is something I was taught by the Council." She turned her head back to her brother, "Don't you see Geaven? For all these years I still haven't developed my abilities! It's abnormal, I'm too old. Maybe I have no abilities and the Council is starting to get worried. Or already are anyway. I've heard rumors theyare going to take another student just in case this is all I can ever do."

Sadness and rejection sounded in her voice as the pale violet mare lowered her head. "Council member Thelean says that maybe my abilities are waiting for me elsewhere, and I am starting to agree with him." She turned her to glance at him, "So I'm leaving the herd to find my own way somewhere else."

Geaven didn't know what to say, it had come as a surprise, all of it. A sudden insight into his sister told him that she was telling him all this because normally she would have told Nirri, but now she had nobody to confide in anymore. He felt strangly pleased his big sister had chosen him to replace his mate's loyalty and friendship to her.

"I think I understand," he said, not knowing what else to say of all the thoughts in his head. He returned to gaze over the grasslands before him. Looking before him he wondered what Nirri would be saying to Gaeva right now if she had still been alive. He felt ashamed for not knowing. Always had his mate cheered him up, been his strength, his love and compassion, but now he couldn't even tell what kind of advice or comfort she would have given Gaeva.

Feeling his eyes go moist he couldn't help but dwell on his memories of Nirri. They had galloped across these very fields many times side by side, laughing in their joy and love. They had stood on many hills like this one to watch the sunsets. Together they had done many things that gave him happy memories, but everytime he saw a spot or place where he had had happy times with his mate Geaven became sad, wanting it back. It hurt him to see everything still moving on, but without Nirri among them.

Suddenly he knew what he would say. Turning back at his sister he saw her head was still held low as she stared at the fields.

"I'm coming with you."

Her turn to be surprised Gaeva stared back at him, "What? Geaven no, I asn't asking you to come along, I just...wanted you to know."

He knew she was just looking for someone to fill the hole Nirri had made, and he knew he needed something of the same medicine. For one thing he wanted to get away from the places that hurt him to look at. He wanted to make a new start. Both he and Nirri had been young when they mated and neither had seen much of the world. But now he could, "I know, but I'm coming with you. I need something I can't find here either. We can leave together."

"What about Meali?"

His eyes widening Geaven felt ashamed for having forgotten about his daughter, the only part of Nirri he still had left. "She's coming with us."

"Geaven, she's too young to travel, you know that."

"No she's not. She'll have an oppertunity we never had, to see the world, meet others outside the herd, learn things other foals wouldn't." He gave Gaeva a gentle smile, "I'll take care of her, she's my daughter, Nirri's daughter, she's strong and can do this. I know she can."

Neither spoke after that and silently they both agreed to this new plan. Together they would leave the herd and travel the world in search of what they needed.

Re: Geaven's Story

Post by Geaven »

TWO DAYS LATER:
Not waisting any time about it the siblings told their parents they would be leaving. The discussion that followed was very tearful, but neither parent could think of a good reason for their offspring to stay. And as Gaeva left to inform the Council of their decision Geaven went to tell Pirrin and his family as well. An encounter he recalled sadly many times afterwards.

Pirrin had still been grieving about his daughter's death and hearing that his grandaughter would be leaving them now as well was not something he was willing to accept. He told Geaven he would not let him take her, that it was foolish to leave himself, ordered him to stay. Finally it was Pirrin's mate that took over the conversation and talked to her mate while she signaled to Geaven it was better to leave now.

The next day they left and Pirrin refused to speak to Geaven. Hurt that he could not say goodbye to his mentor, friend, and second father Geaven left in low spirits. His and Gaeva's goodbye to Arren wasn't happy either, he even considered leaving with them, but in the end the red stallion knew that the herd was his true home. "And somebody needs to stay behind to watch over the naughty foals," he said in an attempted joke to Geaven.

Finally the dark colored stallion used his telekinetic abilities to lift Meali up on Geaven's back where she loked her front legs around his wing joints to his body like all young foals learn to do when being moved by their parents through the air. Looking at Geaven again the stallion didn't know quite what to say. They simply moved closer and leaned against each other. Geaven found himself wishing he would see his father again soon.

Finally the two were ready to leave. The sun wouldn't reach the high point in the sky for quite some hours yet and they wanted to get some distance behind them on the first day. Looking at the faces of the herd as most had shown up to witness their departure, Geaven and Gaeva jumped up and silently made their way up to the blue sky.

Geaven looked back and down as he heard some cheers and shouts of good luck coming up to them, them smiled and waved with one of his large powerful wings to his friends and family below. Above them several Guardians appeared, supposedly escorting them for a ways, but really just wanting to stay with the two for as long as possible.

Geaven wondered wether he had made the right decision, but as he glanced back one last time knew he had. Smilin down at Meali on his back he saw her excited face. He had told her they were going on a very long trip to have advetures and see new things. The small foal was young and hed been younger when she lost her mother so she hadn't been grieving for as long. Geaven sadly knew that Meali sometimes even forgot about Nirri. He'd have to make sure she would never forget though, he had to tell her about her mother so she'd always know about the beautiful, kind mare who had given her life. Too bad that talking about her hurt so much though.

Looking back to his sister she gave him a grin. They were really doing it! Infected with her excitement he too smiled widely now, and when the Guardians finally turned back tot he herd he gave them a loud departing whinney they all returned with feeling.

Grinning the two siblings flew through the blue sunny sky, seeking their destiny, and hopefully happiness, beyond the horizon.

EPILOGUE:
"This is it, Geaven, I can just feel it!"

Frowning Geaven looked down on the seemingly endless stretch of forest below them as they flew over it. They had only been traveling for a few months, and while they had come a great distance still hadn't seen very much. Geaven wasn't sure he wanted to stop already.

"Pretty! Look daddy!" Using a wing Meali pointed down to a seemingly empty stretch of grassland inside the forest itself. Narrowing his eyes Geaven saw that the grass sported many colorful flowers as well, just like the forest itself did from what they had seen.

"It's beautiful alright," Gaeva said with a smile to her nice, then grinned at Geaven and he could tell she was really excited about this place. He had to admit it looked good, clean and beautiful, with lots of space. He just wondered about it's odd location in what seemed to be almost in a desert and the apparent lack of life. He could sense very few lifeforms living in the forest, not even a fraction of what should be living there. And then those looming Mountains, what was up with them? He had a bad feeling about them. But Gaeva and Meali seemed to like it and he was willing to give it a try.

Nodding to his sister they both descended once more to the forest floor, then glided along the branches and tree trunks to that open meadow they had spotted. The trees were huge and thick and it took thema while to get to the ground.

"Deep," Meali commented on the way down.

Gaeva nodded absently, "Very deep forest." She looked at Geaven with a smile, "No matter which way you enter it." Talking about the size of the forest.

Landing the three made their home. To Geaven's utter surprise his sister bonded to the entire forest in a matter days, proving she had been right, she belonged here. He couldn't recall anybody ever bonding to a place this big before. Deciding to follow her example he chose the meadow Meali had pointed out for himself and bonded to it. It was a relatively small spot compared to what their species usually took on as their protective spots of nature, but he was happy with it. It didn't take long for Geaven too to come to love the place, and seeing Meali run happily through the long grass and flowers made him even happier.

Looking about as he flew above the canopy he nodded, this was home for now. Deep Forest as Gaeva had named the place. Doing a barrel roll he whinnied loudly then dove down to disappear from view in the dark depths of the forest. He could take on anything now, he was ready for his new life. Let them throw whatever they wanted at him, he could take it!
The End
