Rehydration.. (OPEN TO ALL!)

Off the east, as the light softly touched the sky, bringing back to the world the light of the dawning pink sun, a single glint was seen in the cool morning light. A radiant crystalline white dragon moved among the orange and reds of the glowing orb filling up the newborn day. Her wings moved softly, changing her flight pattern to adjust for shifting winds, and the cool mist of the clouds. 
 
 
Sapphire flew through the sky, keeping her focus on the River's Deep. Her fur glistened in the rays of a newborn day, as she herself, shined like the blues of Rivers Deep. Sapphire, always concerned with her bodies condition, and her ability to defend herself, noticed her level of hydration was getting quite low. It had been days, since she has seen any decent quantity of her lifes blood. She was very dehydrated for a water dragon... seeing River's Deep below, Sapphire dived, and hit the water with barely a splash. She'd minaturized herself for safety and practical purposes. She swam along the surface, noting that there were no aquatic creatures nearby or in the lake. She wondered if there were other aquatics living around here or if she was the only one...

Quel was going to the water to get a drink as well, and maybe a fish as well. The rainhawk finally got the the water's edge, and bent his neck down, taking sips from the river. He wasn't even aware of the dragon that was in the water. As he drank, his large, rainbow-colored wings opened, stretching and almost seeming to reflect onto the water.

As Sapphire looked upwards, she saw a shimmer of colors through the surface of the water. Crimson Garnets, Burnt Tourmalines, Sunfire Ambers, Deep Green Emeralds, Deep Sea Sapphires, and Amythyst Purples, all in varying shades, glittering, flickering, as if someone were playing with the color of the water. The colors were beautiful, and covered two separate parts of the river, with a large space of tan in between. As the small waves softly rippled the surface of the water, Sapphire swam slowly upwards, not wanting to frighten whatever or whoever was creating the beautiful shades of gemlike colors. Whoever or whatever this was, definately did not belong to the Gemmed Shapeshifter Pack. 
 
As Sapphire watched through the surface, the shifting prism of light continued to play on the face of the Rivers Deep. She slowly crawled onto a limb hanging over her home, and like a lizard, froze on the limb of the blue fir. The leaves on this tree were a dark green-blue, with the bark sometimes being brown, sometimes white, as it depended on the tree, and the season. Right now, her crystalline white fur shimmered in sapphires, opals, and silvers, as her wings were slightly spread, playing a prism of light, similar to the shimmering creature who continued drinking life from the Rivers Deep....

Quel drank a little more, then stopped, his thirst quenched for the time. His wings folded across his body again, having thoroughly stretched and warmed. He glanced at the water for a bit, admiring the color of the water, then he noticed that there were ripples in the water. Not ones made by himself, too, because they were going towards him. 
 
Immediately, he glanced up, scanning for whatever had made the ripples. He noticed the other creature quickly, because she stood out somewhat from the tree. He stared at her, waiting to see her reaction to being found.

Sapphire noticed the creature looking at her, and spread her wings, ready to take flight at any moment. He found her quickly, to her surprise, not many creatures were that observant. Sapphire gazed at the newcomer, and decided to keep her current size for now. The face of River's Deep still shimmered and rippled with color and movement. Her life's blood had never seemed so beautiful as when it was shimmering, moving, and reflecting, especially when the sun decided to rise or set... 
 
 
Seeing that the newcomer was speechless, Sapphire decided to introduce herself. "Hello pretty one. I am Sapphire, a water dragon, and this lake is where I live. I have never seen such beautiful colors before. What is your name shifting prism? Not even rainbows glitter and shimmer like your wings do."

Quel seemed to calm slightly. She wasn't agressive, that was good. "I am Quel, a rainhawk." He said in reply. He kept watching her, just in case there was any sudden change in her nonagression towards him. His wings began to change colorsa slightly, darkening as a stormcloud would just before a heavy rain. Though she wouldn't know it, this almost clearly signaled that he wasn't completely at ease.

As Sapphire watched, the rainhawk's wings began to shift to silvers, greys, and blacks. It looked like he had two stormclouds attached to his body. Sapphire watched, interested in the shifting colors. Her fur although it did shift, didn't shift to such very different colors. Her colors tended to be blues, silvers, and golds. If Quel's moods controlled the color of his wings, then he probably was feeling a little wary right now. Anger or annoyance usually was red, with fright being usually yellow. Although that wasn't true for some creatures, it was true for most. Sapphire concentrated on the lake water, and created bubbles that floated through the air, dancing around. The bubbles had colors that shifted as the light hit them, pale comparisons to the Rainhawks wings, but similar. For fun and extra entertainment, Sapphire created a mist that floated near the ground, adding mystery and security to the area. Now any evil creatures nearby would have trouble spotting them. 
 
"If you are worried about the evil creatures roaming about, this mist should secure us from their sight. The bubbles are harmless, they are pure water. Feel free to drink one if you like. I have just arrived here from long travel, and it's been awhile since I've seen so much water." Sapphire said as she crawled off the branch and relaxed in the lake up to her shoulders. She rested her head on a small rock, sunning and absorbing water at the same time. Her wings rested on the face of the lake, floating on the water, peacefully.

Quel relaxed more. She clearly wasn't agressive. "Sorry... I'm just... wary around others." He replied. It had taken him a long time to master speech as a rainhawk, but he had always thought it very worth it. As he relaxed, his wings shifted back to the vivid spectrum of colors it had been before. He glanced at a bubble that went by, somewhat distracted. However, he turned his attention to the lake. 
 
He inhaled, then exhaled a freezing blast of air that froze a small part of the lake, just big enough for him to rest on, which he did. After getting comfortable, he looked back to Sapphire.

Sapphire flexed her muscles and claws, freeing herself as she had suddenly been encased in ice. Her wings had been resting on the surface of the water, so they had only had the edges frozen. Standing and walking over to an unbroken, solid part of the ice, she rested on top of it, not really minding the cold of the ice, water was her element after all. "There is no need to be sorry about being wary. There is good reason to be wary, as not everyone can be trusted. I try to act friendly when I am around someone I'd like to be friends with. After all, I don't want to frighten off a potential friend, that can wait until you know me better!" said Sapphire only half joking. "Where were you going my friend? I had been intending to stop here, rehydrate, then go take a look around the forest, and see what was around."

"I'm here just because I was thirsty. As it is, I really have nothing to do around here." Quel said. He'd become somewhat bored, because he'd met a total of two other creatures, neither of which he had known for long. In a large forest such as the one he was in, it was odd, he thought, that the dragon was the third creature he'd met.

"I'm here just because I was thirsty. As it is, I really have nothing to do around here." Quel said. Sapphire glanced toward to the forest and said, "Would you like to go and take a look around? I can show you to the meadow. The only places that I've been to are the meadow, the River and Rivers Deep. When I flew over the Forest, I noticed several new structures that I haven't seen before. Would you like to go and check them out?" Sapphire flicked her wings open, and stood up carefully on the ice. Another flick of her wings, and she was skating on the ice, wings spread for take off. Jumping off the edge, she lifted herself into the dying lights of the sun. Circling around, waiting to see if Quel would follow, the winds were just right for taking off from a standstill. 
 
Staying around here would be boring, as there were only the two of them. In the sky, they could maybe play a game of hide and seek, and also take the time look around and see the layout of the forest.

Quel nodded, and stood, his claws crunching the ice. HIs wings spread, and he took off from a standstill. After he'd gained some altitude, a burst of flame from his mouth melted most of the ice. He started flying towards Sapphire. "Yes, that does sound fun." He said.

Sapphire flew off into the direction of the Forest, maybe they would meet others there. In any case, now that she had rehydrated, she could afford to explore a little. She could go back and investigate her Cave later. As they turned towards the forest, the sun shone brightly behind them, turning Quel's feathers and her fur a prism of beautiful colors. Her fur blue, white and silver, and his Red, Orange, Yellow, and other beautiful shades. Sunlight glinted off Sapphires Gem, showing the deep azure against a crystalline shimmery white fur, dark against light, and yet, the dark shone in the absence of darkness..

Quel admired her scales as they flew. With the sunlight, they were very pretty, like gems. Perhaps that is why she is named Sapphire... he thought. His wings kept flapping, pushing him so that he was almost side by side with her.
