Ebb pointedly ignored the meaningless small-talk, useless shouts and random shows of affection going on between these other creatures. To him, such displays served no purpose other than to reveal their (and thus his) location to everyone in the vicininity.

So Ebb kept distancing himself from the group, little by little. Apart from his young appointed guide, they where of no import to him. As the others moved up from behind, going on towards the meadow, Ebb drew to the side, and all but stopped moving forward. Falling back to a position to the side and behind the others, the Grey kept its gaze on the light-blue filly, watching it intently and awaiting its response.

IC:
The feline followed along behind Haru, keeping in pace easily. Her lean body felt better after the potion and enjoyed going at an easy trot. It didn't matter to her where they were going, just the fact that they were moving and she was feeling much better.

Yet after a while, Amy began to reconize some of the land. When they reached the meadow, it turned out to be no big surprise for her. Whinnying softly, the cat horse went up to the meadow. She started to go in, when she saw Haru turn away. She sat near the border of the meadow, watching as more poured in.

If there was one thing Ruby would never have expected to happen, it was Raphus waking up and shouting loud enough to wake the dead in her ear. Being on her back, there was no way to get away from the loud noise, though instinct and surprise sprinted her forward a metre or two. She let out a small cry, and turned back to a surprised-looking and blinking Raphus, who chose that moment to tell her she wasn't who he obviously had thought she was.
"Of course I'm not... um... Jah~wheela! And I'm not 'Geafen' either," Ruby told him, indignation in her tone. "I'm Ruby, and that's Anani." The filly gestured to the kitten as she spoke. "I've carried you here from the Village, 'cause you were sick and asleep, and the purple lady said somebody should take you."

"Well," Red said, having recieved no answer as of yet. He stood casually in his anthropoid form, waiting for something interesting to happen. His thoughts turned toward the meadow barrier.

The meadow...barrier. Which was magic.

"Hey!" he said. "Why is the meadow barrier still up? Isn't some creature controlling that?"

Anani only half heard Ruby’s question. She had found out that whenever she lifted or dropped her paws in a certain way, the shadow would lift up and become 3-D, or fall back down the ground, 2-D once more. With a giggle, she turned to the pegasus and pointed to the shadow.

“Look at what I can do! Neat.”

The shadow sat patiently, waving its tail back and forth calmly in its 3-D form as Anani pointed at it. Ani turned to it, and held out a paw, as if to shake with it. The shadow raised its paw in response, and the two kittens shook.

“What’s your name?” Anani asked the shadow, forgetting all about Ruby for the moment. The shadow seemed to shrug, and Ani paused thoughtfully.

“Hmm. I’ll have to come up with a name for you, then. Are you a girl or boy?” The shadow blinked its sharp yellow eyes. Ani frowned. “You mean you don’t know if you’re a girl or boy? Well, that sucks.”

Ani then remembered Ruby and the cat, and turned back around, as Ruby introduced herself, and the kitten. Ani grinned, and waved at Raphus. The shadow mimicked the kittenchild exactly, waving and grinning, although its grin was much more pointy than Ani's.

“Hiya. I’m Anani, like Ruby said, and this is my shadow, who doesn’t have a name yet. Who are you?”
OOC
Sorry it took me so long.

IC
It took more energy to stay in one spot in the air than it did to fly as her wings had to put in more effort to remain in th same position. But Meali stayed where she was, spotting Ebb and Lili easily enough the moment they could be seen coming from the darker parts of the forest. Because of the darkness the others were harder to spot, but one screaming creature assured her they were there after all. It also scraed her a little, why did the voice sound so panicked? She heard nobody else as clearly as that one, so she assumed there was no real danger.

Now that they had reached their final destination Meali was starting to feel worried again. She had just wanted to get here and find peace, and hopefully her father. But it also meant she had brought the ugly dragon to her Tzen's hiding place. That didn't sit well with her, even if her aunt her asked her to do it. Finally she dove down, going faster than intended as she couldn't see the ground very well in the darkness.

Hitting the ground harder than intended she grunted with the impact. Meali had also, purposly, landed on the other side of the barrier. Panting a bit the flames continued to stream up from her nostrils, accompanied by smoke. Clumsily she folded her wings to her sides, too tired to bother with tidyness or being careful of the feathers.

"We're here," she shouted much louder than Ebb would need to hear her, but she wasn't sure. He'd been right in front of her face last time, but maybe he couldn't hear her from down here. It was true, they had arrived at the Meadow, where Tzen had been sheltered my the older Meali some time ago. Now Meali wished to test Ebb, to see if he could pass through the barrier, and whether she could trust him with her friends hiding spot, even though Meali didn't think she'd be there anymore.
Ourania soared high overhead Ebb and Meali. She struggled to keep herself this high but she would make it. Throbs of pain pulsated in her stomach constantly. She finally learned to just about ignore it. Hearing a pained grunt below, Ourania stopped in mid-air and looked down. Meali had apparently crash landed into the meadow. Making a face, Ourania spiraled to the ground and landed beside her.

Before she could say a word, her throughts came rushing back to her. Thoughts of the terrible war fought here not very long ago. She could even see where her body skid across the ground in attempts to fight "Gaeva" off. Ruby watched Raphus say hello to Anani, who she now noticed had a freakin' cool 3D shadow.
Her ears twitched and turned to the nearby meadow, followed by her head, as Meali called out that they had reached wherever it was they were going.
Ruby looked around the bigger and more colourful dragon as it approached wherever the blue horse was, and Ruby finally saw it: The Meadow.
The sight of a meadow in the forest was surprising: Meadows were tied so closely to home in Ruby's mind that, for a moment, she half-expected to see her old herd waiting for her, including her grandparents and parents.
The memory of her grandparents' (along with over half the herd's) disappearance reminded Ruby that she was not in Star Forest - she was in another forest, that she didn't know the name of. She had new friends in Naop, Elendar, Gary, Raphus and Anani (and her freakin' cool shadow), and new scary things to be afraid of, like the huge dragons.
Ruby blinked any possible tears out of her eyes, and turned back to Anani and Raphus. "I think we'd better get into the meadow now," she said quietly, and, turning away so no-body saw any tears, walked through the barrier, entering the wide Meadow.

During the conversations around them, Bast had started to doze off once more. Her prior injuries and her attempts to move after they had been inflicted left her feeling horribly drained.

The feverish effects of the plague may have been gone, courtesy of the odd vials of liquid ... but the cuts and scratches, bruises and broken bones were a testimony to the fall she took from the Mountains. Even when Bren cracked open another vial and blew some of the fumes towards her, Bast didn't feel any better.

And then the human made a comment about her. During the trip to the Meadows, Bast hadn't showna hint of anger. not since they left the forest. Mainly because the feline decided to ignore him. It may have seemed cold ... but some cautions died hard. If Bast could walk, she would've walked alongside Lilioukani rather than sit in front of the bipedal humanoid.

The feline shot Bren a glare from the corner of her eyes, though any anger showing in that look was melded with fear, agony, and fatigue. She was far too tired for this ... her whole body ached.

Bast focused ahead of them again, barely able to make out the Meadow they started to enter, because her vision was so blurred. She felt the tingling as they passed through the barrier ... and the cheetah didn't know whether or not to feel relief ... or ...

Or fear? Something felt ... wrong. As a creature of nature, she felt it. But didn't know what it meant.

Re: the ABC as Dragonslayer

Post by Griatch »

The young creature set down at the beginning of what seemed to be an unnatural growth of flowers. Ebb concluded this was the clearing he had flown past before -- even in the late of summer there where spring flowers blooming in there, and the temperature was slightly higher than inside the forest. His young guide was out of his reach. He had to move onward.

The power that protected the meadow seemed to have trouble to classify Ebb. One moment the air seemed thick, like concrete, the next it was as if it had decided to let him pass, only to immediately solidify again. His mind could not be affected, so it went for his body instead. Ebb pushed forward, and as he drew closer to where Meali stood, it was as if different parts of the Grey where affected differently by the Meadow's ambiguity; Now and then a leg seemed to be pulled down to the ground and Ebb had to forcibly drag it along whereas the rest of the body moved freely. The natural force that was the Meadow hesitated; for whereas Ebb certainly was not a good creature, he also was not evil. And whereas his methods and his goals where his own, at this very moment his goals and the wellfare of the forest happened to coincide.

Ebb was now only two dragon-steps away from Meali. Smoke rose around the Grey's ancient armour.
Some of the "smoke" was vented heat from its massive muscles which where with momentous effort forcing the dragon forward -- also when the Meadow momentarily decided against it. Some were effects of the meadow itself -- magical ripples tearing and grinding into different parts of this non-good, non-evil unclassifiable creature that tried to gain access to it.
Long plumes of vapour shot out of the side of Ebb's grinning skull; he lowered his head and put his shoulder into the last section of the barrier: The enormous dragon was now towering over Meali and it was as if the air in front of Ebb was bulging outward; whisps of vapour was rushing away from him on all sides, as if the Grey was pushing through an ever-thinning membrane; a sea monster soon to break the surface of a calm vertical ocean.

"I am what I am" Ebb said worldlessly to the Meadow. And almost with a sigh the Meadow let go.

A wind of heat and sticky moisture flew forward from the dragon as the invisible bubble of force burst open for it. A white, warm mist of bone-smelling water vapour -- created by the dragon's efforts -- came with the wind, sliding in long worm-like trails along the ground. And so the Grey stood over Meali, partly shrouded in the mist from its own exhaustion, dead black eyes staring down on the filly.
The head-plate rumbled the voice of Ebb. Despite the fact that the dragon was breathing heavily, the voice from the armour was not affected, giving the eery feeling that the creature that as talking had very little to do with this massive body it was moving around ...
'Meadow, hehehe', Raphus said without knowing what it meant. Raphus' mind quickly drifted to some nice juicy 'mouseys' he would find in this 'meadow-thingie'. While he was carried through the barrier on Ruby's back, the Meadow scanned Raphus' mind to make out his intentions. Even though there was not much to scan, the Meadow hesitated, keeping Raphus' head outside the barrier while Ruby was walking on with the rest of Raphus' body, which made him slide in the direction of her tail.
Anani wasn't sure on how to reply to Raphus, but was saved at the last second as Ruby turned around to enter the Meadow. With a glance at her shadow, which shrugged, Ani shrugged and walked off after the peagasus.

"Hey, Ruby, wait up!"

The kitten giggled as she saw the cat hanging mid-air as the Meadow scanned him. She couldn't figure out why he was hanging there, but it was funny regardless. The shadow bounded over to the cat and pointed at him, keeping clear of the barrier. Anani ran over and lifted a paw under his back and kept him suspended in mid air, with the shadow's help.

"Raphus, you're silly." The kittenchild snorted, fluffing her fur as the Meadow scanned her quickly. However, she got stuck halfway, just like Raphus. It was an odd feeling.

"Uhhh...why can't I get through?" She asked, frowning. And then, with a small jolt, she tumbled through the invisible barrier, head over heels, landing somewhere close to Ruby.

"Heheh. Whoops." The kitten grinning sheepishly.

((occ: I'm assuming that it would take a moment for the Meadow to scan the Shadowma, but since Ani's intentions are good and she's got control of it, the barrier would let her through.))

Entering the Meadow?

Post by nightwolf714 »

Amy heard the foal tell everyone that they were here. Others quickly began to enter the meadow. Curiously, she noticed one cat getting stuck half way in. She snorted a chuckle, finding the scene rather funny.

The kata glanced over at Haiku, noting that she had not yet taken a step toward the barrier. That wasn't a very conforting thought at all. Still, she herself thought it safer in the meadow.

Slowly standing up, she moved towards the meadow. Her body was prepared for the barrier's scan, having once entered this place before. The strange feeling passed over her body, reading it rather quickly as she walked.

Unlike some of the others, she had little trouble going in. Then again, she had little reason to be against the forest at all. Having just arrived onto the forest village when they were leaving, she missed what they were doing. All Amy knew was that she was sick, something made her feel better, and that most of the crowd was moving this way. That was all she knew.

That kata kept slight distance from the others, not sure what everyone was doing here.
