Tylin of the Playful Sting
Name: Tylin of the Playful Sting

Species: Pseudodragon

Gender: Male

Evil/Good: Good

Age: 3

Mature Adult at Age: 1

Appearance:
Tylin looks just like a powerful dragon. His wing are supported by powerful muscles. His many scales are arranged perfectly and glisten in the light. He is mostly a shining copper, but has wisps of Red coloring.

Wisps of smoke, flame, and acid escape from Tylin's mouth and nosstils as he breathes. His head resembles that of a dog, but long, flat horns extent from his brow behind his head made of thick, copper scales. His muzzle is not as thin as many dogs', it curves downward in a way that also very vaguely resembles a bird's beak.

Tylin's wings are wide and flow backward from long, arm-like limbs ending is claws at is his shoulder and become less wide all the way to almost the end of his tail, where they are thin. The middle of Tylin's body is supported with powerful legs, and the scales on his underside are larger than those on his head and back. Tylin is thinner than many people think of dragons as normally being. The upper part of his torso is, naturally, longer than his stomach portion.

From his head when fully upright on his long, sleek neck, to the ground, Tylin is about a foot tall. Including his tail, Tylin is just over two feet long. He differs from an ordinary dragon in that his tail ends with a stinger, resembling a scorpion's.

(Here is a picture of a full size copper dragon- Tylin looks alot like this, but still read the description above because there are differences. Obviously, the person isn't to scale...)

Personality:
Tylin is a playful prankster at heart. He lacks the usual seriousness and total sobriety of larger members of his species, but still has a quick wit and enjoys compicated or just plain confusing discussions.

Tylin likes climbing things and playing games. He also, oddly enough, has a particular liking of music and singing. He sings songs when bored with an impressive voice. Like an ordinary Dragon's, Tylin's voice is multitonal, creating a "stereo" effect. This gives the powerful effect of two people talking in precise unison when he speaks (though these "two people" have remarkably simaler voices, and really it just sounds like one person with two voices, or one exceptionally unique voice.)

Tylin has learned to sing with both these voices, or even three voices to a limited extent. Weather he does this with a unique and exceptional voice box and larnyx or actually has three seperate voice apparatuses (the third one being meant mostly for "overtones") is unknown. However, being only a foot tall, Tylin does not have the sheer volume behind his voice that larger dragons have. His voice his much more quiet, though its tone is good and it carries well.

Tylin likes to impress people, though perhaps this stems from his lack of size. He enjoys contests for the challenge, but also for the chance to impress people if he wins. He often, humorously, flies in little circles when he is happy, which is garunteed to make even someone as serious as a full-scale dragon chuckle.

Though funny, Tylin is also brave a good-hearted. He never wants anyone to be harmed, and is often willing to undertake risk, perhaps too much risk, in other people's protection. Of course, Tylin's courage can be funny too, since he is only a foot tall and not as imposing as he would like to be!

Abilities:

Breath:
Tylin is able to exhale flame, like a normal dragon. Of course, Tylin can't breathe the same amount of flame as a dragon hundreds of times his size, but, proportionally, Tylin's fire breath is quite impressive and, most likely, it has a magical origin.

Like many dragons whose color is copper, Tylin is also able to spit a line of acid from his mouth. This acid could be magical in origin, but it seems to be an ordinary acid after it is created. Nevertheless, it is a powerful acid and capable of eating through wood, many metals, and causing damage to living things who do not get the acid off of themselves quickly.

There also seems to be a gasseous substance mixed in with Tylin's breath. There are hints of it when he spits flame and gasseous acid. Tylin doesn't know its effect and can't seem to manifest it like he can flame or acid.

Stinger:
Tylin's stinger delivers a silvery liquid as its poison. Many creatures have shown the ability to resist the effects of the poison, though what effects exactly seems to be variable.

The primary effect of the poison delivered by Tylin's stinger is a deep sleep. Right after Tylin stings someone, they very often fall unconcious. Sometimes they wake up after just a minute, sometimes they remain asleep for a long time, about 1 to 3 hours.

Even if someone doesn't fall asleep right away, they often feel tired. Tylin hasn't used his sting alot, but he has noticed on several occasions that when someone he stings doesn't fall asleep instantly, they do so in roughly a minutes time. They never appear to wake up from that sleep until at least an hour has passed.

Disadvantages:
Tylin is exceptionally small and his strength fits his size! Though Tylin works very hard to be at least as strong as a dog or elf, his small size makes exerting much physical force quite difficult.

Tylin has also been known to take on challenges that are considerably beyond his abilities. This stems from Tylin's desire to test himself and, of course, to aid others.

Often, Tylin has to spend time cleaning his scales, which turn green if they aren't cared for. If his scales are green, he notices that he is alot less maneuverable, and feels "icky" moving around.

Family:
Psuedodragons are a rare breed, and roam the world by themselves after they are mature. However, they still organise themselves into clans, and greet eachother with great enthusiasm when they meet.

Tylin is a member of the "Playful Sting" clan. Hence, his full title is "Tylin of the Playful Sting." Tylin's mother, father, and, in fact, many, many members of his family are still alive. They roam the world just like Tylin, looking for adventure and fun.

Since they live forever (or so they think), Pseudodragons don't mind being totally seperated from eachother, because they'll surely meet again. If pseudodragons do meet, they usually travel together for a varying period of time and have great fun.

History:
Pseudodragons are a vary stagnant race, in the long term. Like their larger Kin, psuedodragon's lives tend to go on forever, though they are by all means prone to natural deaths. Unlike their larger kin, psuedodragons reach full size and maturity at a very young age.

Tylin traveled with his mother for one year of his three year life. During this time, Tylin learned the philosophies and traditions of the Playful Sting clan, and learned other ordinary things about being a dragon.

During the next year of his life, Tylin wandered the world and developed his skills. He learned how to breathe fire and acid aand how to effectively use his stinger. Though singing has been an exceptionally long tradition of the Playful Sting clan, and, of course, he was tought how to sing during the first years of his life, Tyling also developed his singing and his musical ear.

It takes more than three years, indeed, it takes a lifetime, to learn how to sing really well, and Tylin is still developing with every song he sings. Tylin has learned to sing in two part harmony to great effect, and also can add a third note sometimes. Tylin recognises that he still can learn a great deal.

The more offensive aspects of his abilities, like stinging, Tylin learned so that he could defend himself from wolves and other hostile creatures in the lands. Tylin's favorite and, yes, only tactic when he is forced to fight is to maneuver around and cause a little damage with fire and acid until he can sting his foe and escape.

During the last period of his life, Tylin has been seeking adventure in addition to subsisting in the forest. In fact, it took him a great deal of time to decide to discover what was on the other side of the great wasteland that expanded to the east of him, for he was not convinced he had satisfactorily examined things on this side of the wasteland.

Finding no adventure outside of keeping away from the wolves and learning to sing, Tylin decided to cross the wasteland on wing.
A few lines IC (In Character) of your character entering the Forest:

Tylin flapped his wings with effort as he soared like a large bird low over the sandy wasteland. His copper color blended in with the ground, only his slowly beating wings and wisps of red coloring betraying him as a living creature.

As he looked up again, Tylin finnally saw something. Yes, this must be considered the other side of the wasteland, because trees and plants began to protrude from the once barren land.

Infront of the line of trees marking entance to this forest, Tylin landed with grace. He regained his composture quickly, though he was worn out from the long fly over the wasteland that was now to his west. (Ah, it felt good that he could now call it the western waste, after having been eastern for so long.)

Tylin closed his green eyes and hummed one note in three different octaves, as a way of relaxing. He slowly stretched his copper wings and then stretched his legs by rocking backwards and forwards once. He then sat and smiled, feeling a sense of occomplishment from flying over the wasteland. After all, he didn't really get to fly that much, since he spent most of his times in the trees instead.

Immediately, his curiosity was peaked about the forest infront of him, but he soon realized how hungry he was, and decided to spend a minute eating. He lowered his head to the ground and grazed happily on the grass, though he did notice a slightly funny taste to the green food.

Overflight...
Tiffin flew overhead without noticing the newcomer, his keen eyesight aimed elsewhere, the calm air carrying no scent to his nostrils... the sound of his own wingbeats obscuring the sound of munched grass to his oversized ears. His eyes locked on Khee's garden, not more than a hundred yards from where the pseudodragon grazed. His long bushy tail trailed behind him, fluffed by the wind of his passage through the calm, warm air of afternoon... cheek pouches, stuffed full with choice seeds. A final glide, wings held still... a light thump as he landed on the ground, just a few feet away from the garden's stone border, his eyes looking up at the shadewall. And memories... always memories of Khee, even after the miracle of finding Flycker...

... warm, beautiful Flycker....

Spat out seeds were carefully spread out on the flat border rock Tiffin always used for the purpose, so he could sort them into type, and plan where to put them in the garden's layout. Tiffin spread his wings and mantled his work area, just like a hawk over its prey. This posture cut the glare off rock, shaded his eyes from the overhead sun, as he settled on his haunches to contemplate his thoughts. No... not all of his thoughts stayed on seeds and gardening issues. Even though he would be returning to Flycker's warmth within an hour's time, since he'd found her, he'd found himself thinking less of his loss... less of Khee, and of his grief... more of Flycker, more of how much he was growing to... to love her, to cherish her, to... to...

... how much he wanted to be a father, if Flycker would accept him as her mate. He couldn't imagine she wouldn't, since they were the only two aerosquirrels in Deep Forest, far as he knew. He, grayblack of feathers and fur, saphire blue of eyes, matching blue of feather tips and headruff... she, all white, with the most amazing pink eyes behind her sunglasses, ears and wings painted like a butterfly, more often than not.

Tiffin shook his head, and focused again on sorting seeds, a warm smile on his face....

------------------------------------------------------------
((ooc)) Tiffin is sixteen inches standing height, with an equally long tail and a two foot plus wingspan... just so you have a size comparison. <img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v66/V ... s/grin.gif ALT=":grin"> ((ooc))
Re: Overflight...
Tylin took a few mouthfuls of grass. He munched happily, never having cared very much about what he ate. The grass was long here, not like the shrubbery where he came from. Back west, the grass was full of shrubbery and other plants that competed for space. Here, at the spot at least, the only plant was grass and it was growing strongly.

Finnally, Tylin's curiosity overcame his hunger and he lifted his scaled and horned head up from the grass. He blinked his eyes and looked all around him.

To the west, naturally, was wasteland as far as he could see. To the east, of course, has he had noticed before, was a huge forest. What Tylin hadn't noticed before was the extent of the forest. Its trees started as powerfully built and about the height he was used to. However, as Tylin peered into the forest, he noticed that they just kept getting taller and wider. Tylin didn't even see any indication that they stapped getting taller and wider. In fact, he felt a desire to explore the forest and find out about these huge trees.

As Tylin scanned the forest, he noticed something strange. Set apart from the rest of the forest by rocks roughly one hundred yards away from Tylin, was an area mostly void of trees and filled with other unique plants.

Oddly enough, next to one of the rocks, was a dark-furred creature. It appeared to have wings, and it was doing something with its arms ontop of a rock. Tylin's vision was not all together perfect, presumably because his kind (and full size dragons) usually operated in smaller quarters, when long distance details weren't neccecary, or flying above the landscape, when movement mattered more than details. Or perhaps it was for a different reason entirely- Tylin had seen older pseudodragons whose eyes didn't look like eyes at all, but like crystal or metal orbs.

This creature did not appear to be a threat. It was just bit taller than Tylin and built vertically, though it did have a large tail. Tylin had never seen this type of creature before, but it demonstrated an intelligence by doing whatever it was doing on that rock. Tylin slipped closer through the grass so that he could see.

Whomever this was appeared to be putting little things in piles, like the person was sorting something. Tylin wondered if perhaps this creature was responsible for the set-apart section of this forest, or if perhaps it was just utilizing a flat rock on its border. As Tylin halved the distance between them, he wondered strongly what this forest that was quite unlike the one he had come from was exactly.

As Tylin approached the creature, who now semed to resemble a large squirrel, he changed his movement from slinking in the grass to strutting politely with his head raised, not wishing to be rude and sneak up on whomever this was.

Tylin was now beginning to get close to the creature. When he thought he was within ordinary earshot, Tylin ventured a greeting, "Hello!"

Tylin spoke this greeting pleasantly, as if meeting someone by chance. Tylin spoke with a note of question, as if unsure this was the person he was looking for. His voices rested in their most natural positions, one about a fifth lower than the other, so that his voice sounded average for him. It made a strange stereo effect, as always.

Yes, a warm smile lit Tiffin's face. Warm thoughts occupied his mind, thoughts perfectly natural for a healthy young male... thoughts, sending warmth in his heart to much lower regions.........
......... Hmmmm... beautiful, wonderful, warm and sexy Flycker....
... but Tiffin stood perched on the shadewall, eyes focused on the voice's owner... but the chitterchirp of his scolding surprise died in his throat, as he saw just exactly what the voice belonged to. A very, very... very small... dragon? Tiffin immediately thought of his good friend Slayer... all seventy feet of him... still sad that Slayer had left Deep Forest, but happy for him, because he had found Freek to be his mate... and yet, Tiffin blinked at the sight before him, the massive contrast threatening to send him into fits of laughter... relieved laughter. If anything, he needed to scold himself, for his own carelessness. He couldn't be Flycker's mate, or the father of her children, if he ended up in some predator's stomach!

Tiffin caught this newcomer's eyes with his own... locked for a brief few moments... his gaze deep and contemplative. No... no, this... newcomer held no threat in his heart, Tiffin could see. So, his bushy tail stopped flicking overhead... his outspread wings partly folded, and his ruffled fur smoothed out... his hackles went away, along with the shiver in his spine...

... "Ummm... hi...." Tiffin's voice also held a note of question, an Are you going to eat me? tone to his returned greeting. Re: Aerosquirrels Can Jump...
Tylin was suprised when the large Squirrel jumped at Tylin's greeting. Tylin had decidedly made himself loud enough to hear, and didn't want to appear threatening.

The squirrel went through an emotional cycle almost uninterprettable to Tylin. At first he reacted with fear, then he seemed to be releaved- perhaps that Tylin was not a full-size Dragon. Then, the squirrell looked at Tylin for a few moments before overcoming his fear, but still appearing ready to bolt away from Tylin.

"Ummm... hi...." came the slow responce from the wary squirrel. Tylin smiled at this; it was the first confimration that the squirrel was, indeed, a fully intelligent creature capable of conversation.

Tylin managed the best and meekest smile he could. His emerald eyes bore a flicker of concern, and he tried put on a charming smile, showing his small but glisteningly sharp teeth.

Tylin brought himself within normal talking distance of the squirrel. He angled himself sideways to show that he had no plans of suddenly attacking the squirrel, and he turned his thick-horned head toward the squirrel as he spoke.

"Hello, I'm Tylin, of the 'Playful Sting' clan. I just flew here from west of these wastelands."

Tylin's voice contrasted all together too much with the ready-for-action persona created by the crouched squirrel. He hoped that the squirrel could tell him a bit about this forest. After all, Tylin wasn't used to places with many other intelligent creatures. This place could have an organised system for entry, or have very important things to know- there were hundreds of possibilities, so Tylin thought it would be best to simply ask.

Introductions...
The ability to read the souls of others was a gift Khee had taught him. Tiffin could see this... Tylin... meant no harm, yes... but Tiffin felt, better safe than sorry, given his lapse in environmental awareness. Indeed, his growing relationship with Flycker had his emotions all atwitter... his body too often warm in places some considered private. He wasn't sure his present state hadn't affected his judgement, when confronted by strangers. Especially when he saw how sharp Tylin's teeth looked, exposed in... his attempt at a charming smile. Maybe that smile would have been charming to a female member of Tylin's species, but to Tiffin, those teeth looked capable of biting off an arm or leg... or other important body parts, if he chose to turn nasty. Still, Tiffin had verbally beaten down seventy feet of angry Wyrm, when he'd first met Slayer... broken, and then repaired such a large Spirit, on that day. But that had been before Flycker... a calculated risk he'd taken, to save another's soul at the risk of his own life. Now...

... now, he had a future.

Grief, and sorrow... his own Spirit was slowly healing, the more time he spent with Flycker. Then, risking his life hadn't mattered. Now, he couldn't afford that level of risk... he had to survive, not just to keep Khee's memory alive, by tending her garden. For Flycker... he had to survive, for her. For their future.

But... Tylin, of the "Playful Sting", had just flown in from the west, across the Wasteland... like Tiffin had done, riding on Khee's back, googles down, jacket secure, scarf flapping in the wind.........

Tiffin closed his eyes for a moment, with a quiet sigh. Then he leaped from the shadewall, flitted back to his place at the sorting stone... stood there, rubbing avian-scaled forepaws over his face, then down his furry chest, to wipe away the sadness of that memory... of Khee's death, right on this very spot. He turned his attentions to Tylin, returning a smile of far odder dentition... a rodent's gnawing incissors, with the sharp canines of what appeared a housecat, in the normally empty space on each side. Leaning forward, he gave a sniff in Tylin's direction... a curious intake and exhale of breath, to go with the still rapid beating of his heart, followed by a short bow...

... "I'm Tiffin. No clan, but I also flew here from the west, a few months ago." Tiffin didn't elaborate... didn't clarify that it had been by riding on the back of a female wandering albatross... on Khee's back, while... while she struggled, those last miles, with a crossbow bolt in her chest... a bolt driven completely through her body, when she finally crashed to ground... almost... almost through him, if he hadn't followed her dying wish, and leapt off at the last moment.........

Tiffin still felt the ache. Flycker hadn't stopped the pain, completely, but being with her helped him to deal with his grief, knowing Khee would be happy for him. He would alway miss Khee, her kindness and wisdom. Never would he forget her! Yet in Flycker, he'd found everything he'd ever wanted... even the things Khee and him had never been able to share, being so different from each other... yes, so many ways to love.

Tiffin waved Tylin over, no longer unsure of his spiritual judgement, then went back to sorting seeds, first regathering the ones his sudden flight had scattered, then adjusting the piles, and separating more into selected groups....

Re: Introductions...
Tylin stepped over to where the squirrel motioned him. He stood by the stone watching interestedly as the squirrel sorted the seeds.

Tylin waited a moment to start speaking again, so that the squirrel could get some of whatever he was doing done. This Tiffin was obviously intelligent like a psuedodragon. Tylin wondered once more how many intelligent creatures there were in this forest.

There could be a good amount, Tylin thought. Perhaps a very good amount. Again, Tylin thought that it was unfortunate how little he knew about this place that he had happened to land in.

How long would he stay here? Tylin had no idea, and as he wondered this he put it aside immediately. Tylin was sure he would stay here for exactly however long he wanted. It seemed like a hugely vast place, so Tylin could easily spend a huge amount of time exploring it. Tylin didn't like planning for the future; the future would bring what the future would bring. It was a wise saying that psuedodragons lived by. They lived in the moment, not worrying about things that they didn't know about, but always seeking to know more.

Significantly, Tiffin had also flown in from the west. This made Tylin more sure that this forest was a good place to spend, oh, a little of his time at least. After all, what was a psuedodragon to do but explore and learn?

What was a psuedodragon supposed to do but explore and learn? Tylin realized as his silence stretched longer than he had intended that this was a very good question. There was nothing wrong with exploring and learning, he thought, but, he realized, he would also like to meet new people. Tylin hadn't been around other people very much at all. He talked alot to other Psueddragons during his first year of life, but during these past two years he had been quite secluded. Perhaps Tylin could even sing for people! He wondered what people would think of his singing... he had never sung for people.

Now excited about meeting people in this strange and huge forest in addition to exploring and learing (how Tylin liked to explore!), Tylin asked Tiffin about the forest.

"Great, then I am not the only one here! So, Tiffin, are there lots of creatures in this forest- others like you or different people all together? It seems like an interesting place," Tylin said. His speech was exceptionally animated, though hopefully he didn't sound over-the-top.

Tylin glanced around him and was again struck by the vastness of the forest that got thicker for as far as Tylin could see. He also appreciated the garden that Tiffin seemed to be tending to.

((OOC EDIT: Hello! It's been a busy week, but I'll almost definately be able to post tomorow. Thank you for your patience!))

Conversation Started...
Tiffin tried his best to keep Flycker out of his mind, so he wouldn't be distracted again. It was a task much harder than sorting seeds, however... amazing, since it wasn't even Spring... since Fall and Winter were still ahead. Ever since puberty, he'd only ever had this problem in the Spring, this raging of hormones. Now, even the memory of Flycker's scent upset his concentration, as if his body was trying to make up for all the missed opportunities of Springs past.........

Tylin finally spoke again. Tiffin had been waiting... and watching, from the corner of his eye. Beyond the fact Tylin was male, some species of dragon, and had come over the Wastelands from the west, Tiffin really knew nothing else about him... could only guess, from his brief look into Tylin's soul. No idea of age... Tylin could be anywhere from newly hatched to thousands of years old... but Tiffin doubted both extremes. He knew the distance, the time it had taken him and Khee to cover it. No, Tylin couldn't be newly hatched... but he couldn't be anywhere near thousands of years old, not even close to a hundred! Tylin didn't have the marks on body and spirit age brought with it. No scars, physical or emotional, that Tiffin could see. Just from watching, while he sorted seeds, he got the impression this Tylin was just a kid... at least at heart. Scentwise, Tylin did remind him of Slayer... he had the distinct scent of a physically mature male. He didn't smell like a baby. A teenager, then...

... a young adult, with an unknown past.

Tiffin couldn't help his own curiousity, either. The stereo effect of Tylin's voice intrigued him, the energy in it held so much potential! Tiffin hoped his own children... with Flycker... contained such energy and joy of life, as they grew to adulthood. Even if it wore him out, trying to put a capper on all that excitement, before bedtime...

... "Well, it's like I can't get through a day without tripping over someone, sometimes." Tiffin stopped sorting seeds for a moment. He looked up at the shadewall, sad... then he glanced towards the forest, and a smile lit his face. A smile he turned on Tylin...

... "Flycker's the only other one like me I've found here, or anywhere...." The look in Tiffin's eyes turned distant, and his smile took on a very... hmmmm... pleased look. A soft sigh escaped... "She's so beautiful, so... so... * "

Tiffin suddenly realized his thoughts had been distracted again... that he'd said more than he'd intended. With a swipe of paws over his face, he tried to wipe away his faux pas. For a creature who hadn't worn pants a day in his life, Tiffin felt very naked in this moment... a private part of himself, exposed to a stranger. Now was not the time to act twitterpated!

A glance at his seed piles, paws suddenly busy again, for the few seconds more it took to finish sorting...

... "Sorry about that... yes... yes, different people, no question!" Tiffin gave Tylin a serious look... more of a concerned/serious narrowing of his eyes... "Just remember, interesting can get you eaten...."

Re: Conversation Started...
So there were people here! This was very interesting to Tylin. Apparently, the squirrel thought there were alot of people here, too. He said he coulden't go a day without tripping over someone.

Tylin didn't know how much exageration and how much truth was behind the large squirrel's statement. But he did know that there were at least some people in the forest... it could very well turn out to be more than a forest then. With trees like that...

... "Flycker's the only other one like me I've found here, or anywhere...." Flicker showed signs of love-stuckedness. Tylin frowned inwardly. Somehow, it seemed fitting that a flying squirrel would. "She's so beautiful, so... so... * "

Well, thought Tylin, if there were enough people to have love affairs, then Tylin supposed there were a significant amount of people. Tylin wondered how many different species there were. There seemed to be a few of the funny squirrels... so Tylin guess that there could be five or six, maybe seven or even eight, different types of intelligent creatures in this forest. How wrong he was!

Tylin was considering this as Tiffin dexterously finished his sorting. Soon after, the squirrel spoke again.

"Sorry about that... yes... yes, different people, no question!" Tylin was beginning to drift off, for he had not pondered the types of creatures in this wood enough, yet, but Tiffin brought Tylin back to reality with a hard look. "Just remember, interesting can get you eaten...."

Tylin looked a little suprised, and then curious. He wondered what the squirrel was refering to. Tylin liked to think that he was able to defend himself, after all, he hadn't seen anything that could catch him in the air, and he could sink his sleep poison into almost any creature.

Tylin put on a concerned look. "Is there something in particular I should be aware of, then? I think I can defend myself pretty well, my stinger puts people to sleep, but if there is, say, a whole race of something nasty with power in this forest... It would be good to know!"

As Tylin spoke he flicked his stinger demonstratively. He looked concerned, but also interested. Tylin knew that this squirrel was trying to advise against curiosity, but he coulden't hide his interest totally. After all, he had expected a plain, big forest, and what he found was beginning to seem more and more exciting.

Curse of Interesting Times...
Tiffin's tail flicked... his eyes grew a bit wide at the stinger demonstration, but he held his ground without fear. A pause in his actions, yes... but no fear. He churred in thought, forepaws folded against his chest. Then, he quickly crouched down, reached into a gap to his right... a hideyhole between the flatrock he'd sorted on and another, rounder stone... and removed a still fresh leaf. Used it as a container... to catch one of his seed-piles, as he swept it off the edge of the flatrock...

... "Wellll...." Tiffin's expression contained a brief rolling of his eyes... "Most of the creatures here are bigger than us, for one thing... I've met a few who were much bigger."

Tiffin carefully held his improvised container of seeds... moved to the left of his flatrock sorting table, to another flat stone... this one burried, only about a half inch showing, rather than three and a half. He hopped up onto this crossing stone, hopped off the other side, and entered Khee's Garden. His movements slowed, as he carefully started planting seeds in areas of fallow ground... his movements, taking on the feeling of ritual...

..."My friend Slayer, as an example... when I first met him, I thought for sure I'd end up swatted... a bloody smear. But... we became friends...." Tiffin halted his gardening, and looked out over the Wasteland... "Good friends, even though I could have comfortably curled up inside one of his nostrils." Tiffin smiled... "It's funny, though... two such different creatures, he and I, and yet he also met one of his own kind here... a female."

Tiffin returned to his gardening, his voice sad...

... "They both left four days ago, to return to their homeland... and start a family."

Tiffin sighed, but his expression brightened... his thoughs on Flycker, on their future together...

... "I also met a ten foot tall Utahraptor named Red... but I haven't seen him since a plague swept through the forest, about two weeks ago...." Conflicting emotions swept across his face, and over his entire body... a brief shudder. Gratitude and relief, that he had survived. Thankfulness, for those who had cared for him while he was sick. Worry, for missing friends. Sorrow, for those who had died...

... "Deep Forest is home to many different creatures, good and bad... those who make great friends, and those who would kill you without a thought." In his own thoughts, Tiffin considered his friends Roose and Silth, both of whom had saved his life... protected him during the plague, and helped him to heal... "I see all the energy and curiousity in your eyes, so I just wanted you to know... well, to be cautious in who or what you approach. Many creatures here can fly, or have far more than a sting...."

Tiffin finished planting his seeds, and returned to his sorting stone for more.........
