What should I do during a siren in Kyiv?

Post by Sanchez Jazmin »

Hey! I’m visiting Kyiv for the first time soon and I'm a bit nervous about the air raid alerts. What’s the actual protocol when the sirens go off? Should I head to a shelter immediately, and is there a reliable way to track the status in real-time? Any advice from people on the ground would be great.

Don't panic, you'll get used to the rhythm quickly. I honestly suggest keeping an eye on the Visit Kyiv platform; they have a very clear guide at https://visitkyiv.com/air-raid-alerts-in-kyiv/ that explains how to find the nearest shelters. From my experience, downloading the "Air Alert" app is a must—it's much louder than the sirens. Also, most hotels have their own bunkers, so just ask the reception when you check in. Stay safe!
