Yus.

So, any good books lately? What you be's reading?

Hmm?

Right, so I just went to the library, started to walk out, and nearly bounced back in when I saw they have Stephen King's newest book on their shelves. I was the first to snag it. The library didn't even have it in the system yet.

So I feel so proud of myself right now. Why? I dunno. I beat everybody else to it. Suckas!

Just started to read: Cell - Stephen King

Awesome. He's writing things in the zombie genre ... it's about people who go nuts after talking on their cell phones, because somehow a virus is being transmitted through them or radio waves.

Jared Diamond? Coolies, his famous :
was the subject of one of the few interesting hours of social economic history, I was subjected to about ... *ieks* seven years ago.

As usual I am reading more things at the same time, but I am mainly focusing on 'The Conquest of Gaul' of Caesar. Quite boring I must add, but it has its moments.

Other than magazines, I've been reading Bone, by Jeff Smith... it's "the complete cartoon epic in one volume", and I'm on page 1214... almost done. Excellent story....
Oh my...I've several books going. I have this habit of starting one book, getting tired of it, starting another, and then suddenly getting interested in the other book, several times over.

Right now I'm reading The Faded Sun Trilogy, by C.J. Cherryh. I have just finished Kesrith, and I'm moving on to Shon'jir.

Look at all the Books

Post by nightwolf714 »

I'm currently reading The Hound and the Falcon, a collection of three books by Judith Tarr. I love Alf. I've been reading this for about a year now. >.< My AP English class kept getting in the way.

Although, soon, I may stop to read the Harry Potter book, Half Blood Prince. Still haven't read it. >.<

Ehm, well ... ALL Academics are a bit weird and have a few stitches lose. Especially those who are part of that world themselves, realise this only too well.
Um ...

Yep there are quite a few strange people in academia, that's true. I know a few originals that really fit all the mad scientist stereotypes!

But overall us scientists are pretty "normal" people, really. On average we have just as many (or few) nerdy, introvert or mad people as any workplace have. There are a few really bright minds here and there, but most are just hard working people like in any workplace; people doing what their work description entails -- to research stuff and further human knowledge as a profession.

So contrary to popular belief the average scientist is not mad nor old nor has white hair standing on end. We don't go around in lab coats all day either. I wear jeans and T-shirt to work, normally. <img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v66/V ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

... so there. Now come over here and lie down, so we can take a look at your brain ...
Oh, and in order to stay on topic, I read work-related stuff right now: Astromineralogy, edited by Th. Henning. A good read if you are interested in knowing what made up the protostellar clouds that would later form Earth. <img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v66/V ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Last fictional stuff I read was probably Kushiel's Dart by Jaqueline Carey. Wonderful fantasy series with a beautiful use of the English language. <img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v66/V ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">
Waaaay back in my college days, I remember reading a very good book on Quantum Mechanics... much more interesting than Astrominerology! Always thought the electron-tunneling phenomenon was neat....
