Checking Interest Levels

Post by Maul_Junior »

I was wondering if anyone would be interersted in a science fiction freeform sci fi roleplay.....basically I'm looking to try to explore the character that is now in the edge of the woods' past. if anyone is interested, this thread will become the OOC thread and I'll change the title of the thread

Basically it's a small mercenary company looking for work in a number of star clusters far out from the rest of the universe. However, in this area of space, space travel isn't the main mode of transportation, there's a portal network on all the planets that connect each other. Thus a small mercenary company numbering 30-50 people and 3 ships becomes a force to be reckoned with in deep space combat as opposed to areas of space like where NORAD came from where fleets of hundreds of ships (each crewed by hundreds, if not thousands of people) are commonplace.

I will accept most races, with a few exceptions.

1) can't use my created races for the clusters, because I made them up and I don't want you guys muddying up the mythology of these guys too much.

2) no magic users. they can have implants and/or other tech that gives them magic-like abilities, but no actual magic. minor superpowers are okay (TK/telepaths/etc, just see rule 3--no Jean Grey/Xavier/etc-levels of ability. Their abilities are a bonus, but don't make them stand way out)

3) no uber powerful characters. This is the merc company itself that we'd be roleplaying, and someone that's uber powerful would probably be running the show. and my character's the boss lady.

info about the cluster can be found in my sig. info's mainly in the species section as well as history.

Mercenary Company Name: Red Falcons
Leader: Alora "Peregrine" Anophis
Home Base: "Peregrine's Talon" abandoned asteroid mining facility

Mechanic spot is taken, got a person in mind (based off of a pilot from an old game called "Renegade: Battle for Jacob's Star."

Positions I'm looking for:

Ground Teams:

Heavy Hitters (Goon Squad--divided into Red, Blue, and Green fire teams)

Field Medic

Soft Hitters (specialized in stealth and one other specialized specialty [snipers, stealth medic, demolitions, electronic hacking, etc):

I'm mainly looking for ground combat crew, since that would be where most of the action would be. However, it's worth noting that even the ground team have jobs during ship combat if they're aboard. So no matter the combat situation there would always be a way to help out.

I've got a few additional things here from what I wrote up while I was writing before UV, and if it seems disjointed, that's because it is. I've taken out some stuff that would confict with the UV Alora bio that I've written up (the Hez'tat Hegemony was originally a human government, but when it came time to make a character, I thought that Hez'tat would make a great name for a species, so..../etc.).

The Red Falcons operate out of an area of space that is essentially lawless. Despite being heavily occupied, it is in the middle of no-man's land between three different entities, all of which are in a chronic cold war with each other.

The Hez'tat Hegemony, the [human] Confederacy, and the 'morian Empire have been in a state of war for several hundred years. The origins of the conflicts all three governments have had with each other have been lost, but the three constantly war with each other, occasionally two of the sides ally with each other, but such alliances end in brutal backstabbings within years or even months of being begun.

Humans in this time-frame:

Humans are present in this area of space, but they are few and far between. The Neramorians chose their home planet as the new Neramorian capital, and kicked almost all of the humans off of their homeworld, sending them to various other planets. Humans are generally viewed as a sub-species and not taken very seriously.

'morian Empire:

The 'morian Empire is composed mainly of a backbone of a race known as the Neramorians. Short by human standards, they are one of the most ancient races in the known star clusters. They claim to have seeded life to the rest of known space, but archeologists have largely debunked their claims. Regardless, the Neramorians long ago developed nanotechnology, and used this technology, passed off as “majiiks,” to enslave more primitive races that were terrified by the seemingly impossible feats the Neramorians were capable of with their all but invisible technology.

Neramorians generally do not engage in space travel, preferring instead their eons-old technology of creating portals from world to world. In days gone by, they used this technology to bring most of the known races into their empire. Until the Scovokian Scourge came, and all but wiped out the Neramorian Empire. Nobody quite knows who or what the Scovokians were, only that they ripped through the Neramorian Empire in a matter of hours, leaving the few remaining Neramorians separated, their interstellar portals destroyed in a desparate attempt to escape from the Scovokians.

It has been several millenia since the Scovokian Scourge, and many of the old portal networks have been reactivated, and thus far there has been no sign of the Scovokians, and some historians have begun to question whether there was such a thing as the Scovokians or not. The Neramorians, long separated, have come back together and rebuilt their empire, but neither their power, influence, nor nano-technological level has ever quite returned to the level that it was pre-Scovokian times.

The Peregrine's Talon is the flagship of the Red Falcons Mercenary Company. The two other ships in the small fleet are the Killjoy and the Dam Fabulous.

The Talon is a Zephyr-class Cruiser, capable of docking with both the Dam Fabulous and the Killjoy and still maintaining flight. It serves as a base of operations, barracks, staging area, and logistical center of the Red Falcons group.

The Dam Fabulous is a small personell carrier that has been heavily modified by the Falcons to serve as an insertion vehicle into dangerous conditions. It is not particularly stealthy, but is extremely fast and able to take significant damage before it has to land or dock with another airship. The Dam Fabulous is named after a dike they encountered on one of their first missions named the Fabulous Dam. Not long after that, they bought the second ship, and decided on the tongue-in-cheek name.

The Killjoy is a small, stealthy interceptor capable of quickly scouting out possibly hostile airspace. It is armed and more than capable of downing other craft its size. Originally designed as a training craft, with two seats and two sets of controls, the Killjoy was retrofitted by the Falcons to instead serve as an electronic warfare platform, simultaneously capable of dogfighting and confusing hostile sensing equipment (side note--this is the ship that Alora crashed into the UV planet after her electronics shut down after she came out of a wormhole above the planet)

The Talon is a Zephyr-class Cruiser, capable of docking with both the Dam Fabulous and the Killjoy and still maintaining flight. It serves as a base of operations, barracks, staging area, and logistical center of the Red Falcons group. It has a crew of seven, and is more than capable of carrying all [30--50] members of the Red Falcons comfortably. In addition, it has five spare rooms for guests, clients, or other people who may end up traveling with the Falcons.

I know that this is a mess at the moment (mainly copy/pasted from a word doc that I farted my thoughts into) but if there's interest in people joining in I'll clean it up (probably do that anyway as I refine Alora's backstory lol)
