So much grass

Post by Gaeva Winged Unicorn »

A small figure strolled through the high grasses of the meadow, looking bored with herself. The little girl moved her arms back and forth while whipping the taller blades around her with her hands, her large and unnatural purple eyes looking around for anything to distract her. Walking through the Meadow of "peace", what would have been a great victory a couple of years ago, was now a completely and utterly boring dud. Nobody challenged her when she came here, nobody looked shocked she was present, and nobody cared in the least whether she stayed or not. A small foot lashed out in a kick at some offending flower bud in front of her. As the top of the flower came loose with the impact and went flying away the little brown skinned girl smiled satisfied. At least that flower now knew the might that was Willow!

Soon even that small victory was gone and she let herself fall backwards on the ground, the thick grass easily cushioning her impact. With one hand she started to play with the long green tresses of her hair, absently pulling at it as she looked up at the sky. While completely bored with the Meadow, Willow did spent a lot of time there now. It was one of the few places that was avoided by Gaeva, the one the little girl was trying to avoid like the plague. That mare had gotten it into her head to "help" Willow learn and be nicer. Nicer to who the girl didn't know or care, but for the sake of public relations and possibly her own safety Willow had played along for years now, and it was getting on her nerves to always play nice with the hated unicorn. The relationship had taught her a few things however, like how to act and how to lie convincingly. Those were handy talents as far as Willow was concerned, but to be concerned about another's well being, to offer help when you see someone in need...that was just a waste of time and opportunity.

The shaking of the earth had not gone unnoticed by the little girl either, but it had only provoked a smile, then genuine disappointment when nothing more happened. She had been in the Meadow though, so nothing large or breakable had been around her when it happened. Even the grass had caught her own fall during that last quake. So boring. The only spark of interest had been when she saw a few deer topple over in the distance, it had been a funny sight to see those tall legged animals fall down, some even piling on top of each other because they had been standing close together. Hilarious. At the same time it made Willow even more grateful Gaeva was nowhere in sight, the mere thought of that big fat mare accidentally falling on top of her was frightening. She'd be squished for sure. And worst of all, the unicorn would probably coddle her afterwards out of guilt or something. Only good thing that could come out of such a situation would be Willow's opportunity to make the mare feel absolutely horrid.

Suddenly a loud explosion dominated the area, making the little girl whip her head to the side to the east. Slowly she got up into a sitting position, staring incredulously, then slowly her the corners of her mouth lifted first into a smile, then a wide grin that led to laughter. Hugging herself the green haired girl let herself fall back again, kicking her little legs up, and laughed loudly, "I can't believe it! That was beautiful!" she squealed happily, barely able to see anymore through the tears now streaming from her eyes, still laughing heartily. Eventually the laughter stopped though and the girl spread her arms and legs to the sides, lying still once more, but smiling happily, and not bothering to wipe her tears at all.

OOC: Mind if I join? =3 I don't think I've been giving Neto enough attention, these days....

BIC:

"Ugh. Great. Just great..."

Today was perfect. The sky was clear and blue, the sun was shining... the ponds of Deep Forest, freed from their icy prisons, were up and alive with sparkles glittering on their ever-moving surface. The breeze warmed the flower-scented air, and the grass, wet with dew, brushed his legs gently as he padded through the sunlit meadow. More importantly, the spring weather was bringing the woodland animals out of their dens... and beneath the currents of the faraway river, the fish were beginning to wake.

This was what hurt Neto the most about these unfortunate events. Today had been perfect, and he couldn't even go fishing.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He had been waiting all winter for this time of spring, when the river was no longer cold and all the prey that it held in its depths would be here to hunt once more. The clouded leopard had made his home near the stream, patiently watching for it to come back to life, and now that it had, he was anxious and giddy all morning with the prospect of diving under the water and swimming through its flow, searching for little shelled creatures and fresh-water fish to snack on.
But alas, this could not be done. By the time it reached sun-high and he slipped under the surface of the water, his aquatic tail flashing behind him, something strange and very disturbing happened.
The earth began to shake.
At first it wasn't too bad. Just a few rumbles that sounded a bit muffled from underwater, and he almost had mistaken it to be the growling of his own stomach. But the second time, the earthquakes came back with a vengeance. The ground began to tremble violently and the water jostled him around until a swarm of bubbles blurred his vision. He was too frightened and taken by surprise to brave this one out, and he scrambled desperately for the bank's edge. There was too much shaking for his back feet to get a good grip on the riverside, so he just kept completely still, gripping the slippery bank with outstretched claws while the water shook, pushed, and pulled at his lower body. He hadn't been keeping time, and it felt like years passed before it all finally stopped. Neto pulled the rest of himself up to dry ground and gazed back at the water, panting.
What was that?! What in the heaven's name was that?!
He was a creature with a second-nature, a second-love, for the water. And now one of his most peaceful sanctuaries could have very well drowned him. The leopard had never felt so sickly terrified in his whole life... not that he would have admitted that to anyone, of course.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Now he was making his way through the Meadow of Peace; or at least, what used to be the Meadow of Peace. He had heard that the field used to have a protective barrier, sheilding it from evil beings. Now it was exposed, and fair game to all. Not that he cared much. Neto could take care of himself - as long as none of those nasty earthquakes came about again.

The clouded leopard raised his head, sniffing the wind out of habit. There was nothing but the smell of pollens in the air, and the sweet scent of grass. He could pick on something else, too; it seemed as if another creature had passed by here earlier before him. A sudden little squeak made his ear twitch and he turned his head, his eyes narrowing.

There, hidden in the grass just feet away from him, was a fat, juicy mouse. Neto licked his lips. Mice didn't taste nearly as good as fish did, but it would certainly help to make up for the bad day he was having. The leopard lowered down into a crouch.

BOOOOOMMMM!!!!!!!

"Ach!!!" Jumped out of his skin yet again, Neto shrank back, his green eyes wide with alarm. The mouse quickly ran to safety and out of his reach, but the aquatic leopard had no more thoughts of a meal. In fact, he was afraid to consider eating anything now, since every time he even thought of hunting, something exploded.

"W...what was-"

Laughter interrupted him. "I can't believe it! That was beautiful!" a shrill voice squealed. Neto whipped around to see a tiny green-haired girl lying in the grass, apparently having enjoyed that zanned thing, whatever it was. This really irritated him.

Neto laid back his ears as he took a step back, still trembling from the shock. "How do you find that beautiful, you crazy kid?!" He had tried to say it with a scolding tone, but failed miserably. "You don't even know what caused it!! This could mean something disastrous and you think it's beautiful?!"

First earthquakes, now explosions...What was going on with Deep Forest?

And why was he having such a bad day??

Not having any superior senses to her disposal the little girl had no idea somebody had come this close to her without her noticing. Not that she really cared, as long as it wasn't a unicorn anyway, but it still surprised her. Still smiling from her laughter Willow lifted her head to look around her to locate the owner of the voice, and quickly spotted the light brownish feline glaring at her. The irritated look he had made her giggle. She rolled over to her side so she now faced him and placed a small chubby hand over her mouth as if to hide the bubbling sounds coming from her. Her too-large purple eyes didn't look away from his own green however, and nothing else indicated she really was embarrassed at laughing at him.

"I'm sorry!" she said after managing to swallow her giggling, then put her hand beneath her head so she could lean on it now as she kept up her own stare.

"You didn't think it was beautiful, kitty?" she continued, "A serene silence and then suddenly an interruption that demands your attention whether you want to or not!" she explained passionately, grinning now, "A simply thing like a sound takes over the moment, everybody's moment!" Again she laughed, but this time she was no longer looking at Neto, but in the direction of the far away mountains, "I think that's beautiful!"

Finally taking a deep breath she sat up and crossed her legs beneath her, her laughter subsided, though her grin remained, "So who cares what caused it. What do you think it was anyway? You called it a disaster but nothing happed."

The strange girl turned toward Neto and only giggled even more, covering her mouth with her little hands in mock shame.

Neto's muzzle twitched as he struggled to keep his fur down. She was laughing at him! He was being ridiculed by a child, of all things!

How dare she?! That stupid-

"I'm sorry!" she finally gasped after her fit was over, and set her arm under her head to keep herself propped on one side. Now the girl was staring smugly at the clouded leopard with a grin on her face, her large purple eyes shining.

Sorry. Yeah, Neto thought crossly. Sure you are.

"You didn't think it was beautiful, kitty?" the girl asked.

The leopard rolled his eyes. "No..." Who was this kid? She was all alone in a grassy field, with no sign of her parents around. What kind pair would leave their young unattended while the woods were exploding? Obviously this girl's lack of logic must have come from the stupid people who raised her.

Willow's voice interrupted his thoughts. "A serene silence and then suddenly an interruption that demands your attention whether you want to or not!" her voice began to raise with passion. "A simple thing like a sound takes over the moment, everybody's moment!" Her eyes trailed to the distant mountains and she began to laugh again, exhilerated. "I think that's beautiful!"

Finally the girl sat up, taking a deep breath as she crossed her legs under her, grinning widely although her giggles had faded. "So who cares what caused it. What do you think it was anyway? You called it a disaster but nothing happed."

Neto blinked, scowling, and sat down. "I didn't say it was a disaster. I said it could be." He turned and glanced anxiously again at where the noise had come from before returning his gaze on Willow. "A sound like that obviously means an explosion has happened. Explosions always come with flames. For all we know, a part of the forest could be on fire and be heading straight for us." He bent his head down and gave a nervous lick to his front paw. "If I were you, I'd stay by the river until I was sure that everything was alright."

The clouded leopard looked back up at the girl sitting before him. Perhaps he should take her back to his den, but her parents might be coming for her right now and besides, she probably would rather waiting here to see if another 'beautiful explosion' came. Either way, he couldn't just go. She was much too helpless to leave alone, and he wasn't about to have an abandoned kid pressing on his conscious.

"Where are your parents?" he asked.

Again the girl laughed, and while it lasted for only a moment or two, she didn't cover her mouth this time as she momentarily lifted her face to the sky while doing so. She then even went so far as to shake her head and make a soft "tsk-ing" sound as she shook her head to Neto. Considering her appearance of being no older than 5 years old, it could be either seen as complete ignorance or simple childish baiting. "You silly cat," she sighed dramatically, then leaned forwards and closer to him while remaining seated as she was, "There is no fire in the forest. Nor in the mountains even!" She giggled at this, cutesily lifting a fist to her mouth as she did so. "And I'm not going to the River, that's waaaay too far away! My legs are little, and I don't have wings," she pouted.

At Neto's final question her smile seemed to freeze for a moment with the barest twitch in the corner of her eye. Then it was gone and she bowed her head, shielding her face from him, and placed her little hands on her lap.

"I don't have any parents...I'm all alone. Nobody loves me," she explained, her voice actually trembling a little as she spoke. She kept her head bowed, giving a very clear visual image of a sad and abandoned child. As if on cue a stray breeze chose just that moment to lift some of her long thick green hair as it passed over them, making the dark brown skinned little girl shiver.

"Tsk tsk tsk... You silly cat." Willow sighed and leaned forward over her knees. "There is no fire in the forest. Nor in the mountains even!" She laughed. "And I'm not going to the River, that's waaaay too far away! My legs are little, and I don't have wings." The girl looked down and seemed to be pouting.

However, when Neto asked about her parents, Willow's demeanor changed. The smile faded from her face and she turned away, bowing her head as she placed her hands on her lap, her green hair falling around her. Her innocent, pitiful appearance was completely convincing, and the clouded leopard twitched his ears. Perhaps he was right about her having negligent caretakers?

"I don't have any parents..." Willow murmured. "I'm all alone. Nobody loves me," she finished with a waver in her voice, shivering a little as a soft wind blew over the meadow.

Neto stared blankly at the girl's back, tightening his jaw. Unfortunately, he was at a complete loss for how to deal with upset children. It wasn't like he had any, himself. In fact, he barely seemed to talk to much creatures at all, here in Deep Forest. It had been a while since he had had a long conversation with anyone...

"Uh-" the leopard stammered before clearing his throat. He stood up and took a hesitant step closer toward Willow, flicking his tail. "I um, didn't know that. Sorry I asked..."

Poor kid. Maybe she was abandoned... Neto cocked his head and blinked at the girl, deciding that he should probably try and change the subject. "You know, I don't think I've asked for your name yet.... My own is Netotwe-... er... you can just call me Neto." He gave a quick, low rumble that could be a friendly purr.

She remained seated as she was, cross legged with her hands in her lap, her face covered by her thick, long green hair, and listened to him with bowed head. Or at least she did not move or interrupt him while he spoke, which pretty much amounted to the same thing. Only when he made the short deep rumble did she ever so slowly raise her head again and looked over at Neto, now knowing his name, or part of it anyway. She did not respond right away and simply stared at him a few moments longer. Then with a quick little intake of breath she shifted her hands to help her get up to her feet. Quickly she brushed her brown colored clothing to remove any dirt, while at the same time taking the few steps that removed her from the other. Barely at arms length -her arm's length that is- did she stop and let herself fall to her knees, never taking her eyes off of Neto while she did any of this. Sitting like this she maintained a very serious facial expression, no hint of her earlier laughing or grinning present anymore.

"I'm Willow. Will you be my friend so I won't ever be alone anymore, Neto?" she asked him, blinking her large, purple eyes only once.

OOC: That's okay, it didn't seem short xD

BIC:

"I'm Willow," the girl said softly. "Will you be my friend so I won't ever be alone anymore, Neto?"

She was almost the perfect image of innocence. Willow knelt quietly in front of the clouded leopard, her legs tucked underneath her as she stared up at him with wide violet eyes. Her long green hair fell around her shoulders and framed her small face that just moments ago was filled with laughter but was now serious and even a little sad. All that was left was a tiny, somber little girl who wanted nothing else but someone for her to call a friend...

... and she was asking him.

Seeing her, Neto actually felt a tug at his heart. This small child, Willow- how long had she been alone? She didn't look like she was starving, or ill, so she had obviously learned how to take care of herself somehow. Neto himself was very independent, but never had he felt a great need for company, he never starved for companionship. But the little girl before him did, and he couldn't resist her helpless appearance.

Funny how quickly the mood can change...

"Yeah," the leopard said softly, his green eyes warming. "Yeah, sure, Willow. I'll be your friend."

He's in so much trouble now, lol.

IC
A small smile appeared on her face, and with every one of his words it grew just a tiny bit bigger. It ended with her clapping her hands excitedly, immediatly followed by launching herself forwards towards Neto. Throwing her little arms around his neck she proceeded to cling furiously while giggling uncontrollably, "You're my best friend, Neto!" she exclaimed rather loudly near his head. As she said this her smile changed a little however, and though it lasted for only a moment, for just a moment it seemed to be a much wilder little being hanging around his neck. Then the moment was gone and she let go, her face once more innocently smiling up at him as she sat back down on the ground, looking delighted.

"Now we can do everything together, and even going to the River won't be a problem because even though it is sooooo far away, you can keep me company! And if there's danger, or a disaster after all, then you can protect me! It'll be perfect!"

On impulse she grabbed her necklace, which so far had remained hidden beneath her tunic, and pulled it out to reveal a black-tipped, lavender feather hanging from a leather thong. Taking it off by pulling it over her head she then held it out to Neto while grinning enthousiastically, "Here, this is for you," but did not approach as she had before, and simply held it out in front of her.

OOC: That's Gaeva's feather, isn't it? xD

BIC:

He must have said something right, because within a few seconds Willow was hugging him tightly around the neck, giggling hysterically. "You're my best friend, Neto!" the little girl cried enthusiastically before plopping herself back on the ground, beaming at him with a bright, innocent smile spreading across her face.

"Now we can do everything together," she continued, "and even going to the River won't be a problem because even though it is sooooo far away, you can keep me company! And if there's danger, or a disaster after all, then you can protect me! It'll be perfect!"

Now this really flattered Neto. He liked to think that he was excellent in such things as combat and fighting off danger, and the fact that Willow already assumed that he could protect her made him lift his chin a little, smiling. "Heh... Yep, I could handle that!"

The girl suddenly pulled a thin string from around her neck and held it out in front of her, revealing a long, soft feather hanging from the end of the necklace. It had beautiful shades of lavender and was tipped with black.

Neto blinked at it curiously, having never seen a purple feather before. He was in the middle of wondering if he had ever seen a purple bird in Deep Forest when Willow held the necklace closer to his nose. "Here, this is for you," she said with a happy tone.

"Oh," the leopard said, slightly surprised. "Really? Thanks." No one had ever given him a material gift. The closest thing to a gift that Neto ever got as a cub was a tasty treat of meat from his parents. Still, he had to admit that it was certainly a peculiar and interesting feather...

"So... does it go on my neck or something?"

OOC
It is indeed, Willow's very eager to get rid of it ^_^

IC
The pleasure on Willow's face as Neto graciously accepted her gift was completely genuine this time, though only a slighter softer look to her her eyes showed this, and she smiled happily at him, "I'm glad you like it!" Suddenly a bit shy the little girl pushed a bit of her hair back, then giggled before looking back at him, "I just realized I've never given anyone a gift before, a real one I mean." Again she giggled sheepishly, then rolled her eyes, "And 'course it goes around your neck, silly, where else would it go!"

She quickly got back to her feet and leaned over to Neto with the lavender feather dancing from the string in her hands, and lifted it up to pull it over his head, not realizing the leather loop wasn't large enough. Putting over the top of Neto's head she tried to pull it down, and of course utterly failed, but this did not stop her from attempting anyway and put some more force into it. Thankfully her actual strength matched her childish body, so the odds of her doing some damage to the feline were pretty small, which of course did not exclude the discomfort from having his head shoved through an opening too small for it.

Starting to look annoyed the girl ignored Neto in her futile attempts to succeed, but eventually she had to admit it would not fit.

"Oh wait..." she suddenly mumbled and quickly untied the knot tying the string together, "This'll work!" she declared victoriously, and indeed; by tying it directly around Neto's neck, with only the most minor of unintended strangulations while doing so, the string fit loosely with the feather dangling from the base of Neto's throat.

"I even got to practice doing knots!"

OOC
You'll have to decide how much resistance and the like actually takes place, I tried to keep that open ^_^;

OOC: Gaeva, so sorry for the long wait. I've been working hard on writing my Debate class speeches, and in my spare time every time I looked at this I just couldn't think of a good enough response. Not even for something so simple as Willow trying to put on a necklace xD

BIC:

He was, admittedly, not entirely willing to wear something around his neck, but he was willing to bear this feather-necklace for a while if just to humor Willow. When the little girl stood up and held the chain over Neto's head, he was prepared to be bonded to this new decoration of his.

Unfortunately, things weren't going as planned. Both he and Willow soon realized that the necklace was just too small to pull over the clouded leopard's head, but the little girl would not be discouraged. For a while she continued to tug at the leather thread, stubbornly trying to yank it through as one end of the necklace began to press on his nose.

After another forceful pull, Neto flinched a little, though not out of pain. He was just worried that one of Willow's fingers might end up poking into his eye. "Uh, Willow-"

Willow either didn't hear him or just didn't care. She braced herself and, with all the strength in her small hands, pulled even harder at the thread. At one point her thumb brushed against the top of Neto's right eyelid and he shut his eyes involuntarily. Okay, this wasn't working. "Hey, um, Willow," he tried communicating to her again, "I think we really should-"

That was when the girl finally paused, looking down and murmuring, "Oh wait..." She took the necklace back in her hands and started fumbling at the knot, quickly untying the string. Relieved to have the thing taken off of his nose, Neto blinked curiously. What was she planning to do?

"This'll work!"

Willow approached the leopard again, this time taking the string in her hands and wrapping it around his neck. Other than sinking a little through his fur, this time the whole process of putting on the necklace wasn't so frustrating. In the end, the pretty little purple feather was hanging lightly from the base of Neto's throat.

"I even got to practice doing knots!" Willow said, clearly proud of herself.

Neto looked down at his new necklace and smiled a little. "Well what do you know- it looks pretty good." He looked back up at the girl. "Thank you, Willow. I've never been given a necklace before."

Willow stood with her hands behind her back, looking rather proud of herself and beaming a happy smile at Neto. Turning head slightly to the side she looked down at the feather, "It definitely looks better on you than it ever did on me, your fur has a much nicer color." To emphasize her words she reached out and softly patted his shoulder. She lingered for a moment, then with a chubby finger traced the black outlined pattern there, following the roundish shape a few times over.

"Your spots are bigger than the ones the other cats I have seen," she said with a serious look on her face, "Does that mean anything? Because you're not bigger than them." Her face changed subtly as she inspected him with narrowed eyes before curtly nodding once with her head, "Prettier though." Then she grinned, "Probably because you're nicer. You're nicer than a lot of others in this forest though." She gave a derisive snort, "'Specially nicer than the unicorns for sure. Do you know any unicorns?"

OOC: She's completely getting to his head with all those compliments xD

BIC:

"It definitely looks better on you than it ever did on me," Willow complimented. "Your fur has a much nicer color." She reached out her hand as she said this, patting Neto's shoulder and then tracing the black outline of one of his large spots. Apparently intrigued by the pattern, she did this again a few more times. The clouded leopard was silently beaming with pride. Of course she liked his coat. It was pretty unique, and striking compared to most other species'. At least, in his opinion.

Willow looked up at Neto again, her face serious. "Your spots are bigger than the ones the other cats I have seen. Does that mean anything? Because you're not bigger than them." After a brief inspection she added, "Prettier though."

"Really?" Neto said good-naturedly. Though pretty's not exactly what I'd call it. What about handsome? Or striking? Oh well, she is just a kid... "I'm glad that you think so! We clouded leopards, our coats are envied by many cats. Cheetahs, leopards? They've just got little black dots all around them, no creativity, no variation. It's our spots that have got the real design and color." To add to his words, he rolled his green eyes dismissively at the mention of other felines.

The little girl then grinned. "Probably because you're nicer. You're nicer than a lot of others in this forest though." With a scornful snort, she added, "'Specially nicer than the unicorns for sure. Do you know any unicorns?"

Neto blinked. Nicer than unicorns? Better looking than unicorns? This kid was seriously making his day!

"Uh, no, actually. I never saw any unicorns around here." He then gave a small laugh. "Didn't know there were any mean unicorns, either."

Huffing while haughtily waving a small hand Willow rolled her eyes at Neto's last comment, "I think they may all be mean, even the ones who seem nice," she moved her head closer to the feline's and continued in a whispered tone, "Those are just pretending you know. Everybody thinks unicorns are nice and pure, but they're really pure evil and mean! Wolves too btw. 'Specially the ones that walk on two legs," she added with an ugly sneer as she moved to stand up straight again, her voice returning to a normal volume. She kicked at the grass, her shoe protecting her foot when she accidentally also kicked up a bit of dirt. "Ouch!"

Willow glared at the ground for a moment, then returned to her tirade, "I actually don't really know if there's a lot of nice people in this forest. The dragon that lives on the empty hill is nice, and the elves are very useful, I mean, nice, when they want to be. They helped me mend my clothes when I accidentally tore them, because you need hands to do that and unicorns don't have...well, I mean, I don't know how to sew." She glanced down at Neto's paws, "But I guess you don't either!" A small stare later, "But you don't wear clothes, so you don't have to..." She gave a little dramatic sigh, "Lucky you!" Then she grinned, "Do you know any nice people, Neto? Do you have somewhere to go to? A real home? With a daddy?"

"I think they may all be mean," said Willow with disdain. "Even the ones who seem nice." She leaned forward to whisper in Neto's spotted ear. "Those are just pretending you know. Everybody thinks unicorns are nice and pure, but they're really pure evil and mean! Wolves too, by the way. 'Specially the ones that walk on two legs!"

"Wolves, huh?" Neto said with a surprised face. "Walking on two legs?" That doesn't sound very appealing. Perhaps this forest has more strange brutes than I thought... How much perils had this girl faced? And how had she managed to survive in such a dangerous woodland, all on her own?

More importantly, how come I never came across these creatures myself? Hmm. Maybe they're scared of me... 8)

To express the anger surging through her, the small girl kicked at the grass with her covered foot, sending a cloud of dirt up into the air. The clouded leopard flinched with the thud of the impact, and then twitched his ear as Willow cried out in pain.

"Ouch!" Willow glared at the ground for a half-second before her voice returned to a ranting pitch. "I actually don't really know if there's a lot of nice people in this forest. The dragon that lives on the empty hill is nice, and the elves are very useful- I mean, nice, when they want to be. They helped me mend my clothes when I accidentally tore them, because you need hands to do that and unicorns don't have...well, I mean, I don't know how to sew. But I guess you don't either!" she added as her large purple eyes examined Neto's furry paws. "But you don't wear clothes, so you don't have to..." Willow sighed with exasperation. "Lucky you!" Seeming to have recovered from her previous fury, the little girl looked up at Neto again with a wide grin. "Do you know any nice people, Neto? Do you have somewhere to go to? A real home? With a daddy?"

At first, Neto could only give a blank stare. He hadn't realized that the small, young Willow could hold such anger. And after her somewhat incomprehensible rant that switched from evil unicorns and wolves, to helpful elves, to sewing (whatever that was) and then asking if he knew a 'daddy' waiting back at his den, the feline was at a bit of a loss. The only question he had managed to get an answer for was how Willow had survived this long on her own. She lived with elves.

Finally, the clouded leopard cleared his throat and shook his head to get rid of the itch on his neck. "Well... Willow... I don't live with my parents anymore. I left them a while ago and their own forest is far off from here, farther away than even the river." He mrrowed. "Besides, my father's not exactly the 'daddy' type. But..." he suggested again, kindly, "we could always go back to my den at the river. And if you don't feel like going that far, we could just take a walk through the forest. Perhaps even to that place where all the two legged fellows go. What do you call it? A veel-egde?"

OOC
Had marked this as read and then forgot to come back to it, sorry! D:

At first Willow looked slightly disappointed as Neto explained his own family situation. She hesitated a moment, wanting to comment on what he said, but in the end kept quiet as she listened. This turned out to be in her favour as his next words made her face quickly lit up again when she was invited to come along to his den. Going from frowning to grinning the little brown skinned girl clapped her hands together, "Yes yes!" but she had spoken while Neto simultaneously gave some other options, prompting the little girl to vigorously shake her head "no", making her long green tresses whip about her head.

"No! I don't want to go to the village! Those annoying elves live there!" she exclaimed, contradicting her earlier more favourable description of the village inhabitants, her face once more angry, "They always fuss over me when they see me! Make me take baths and sleep in a stupid bed!" She stomped a little foot to emphasize her thoughts on these subjects, And then they won't let me go back to the forest unless I... No!"

Then suddenly again like magic her angry face turned into a happy one as she grinned once more, "But I want to see where you live!" She clapped her hands again, "Show me, Neto, show me!" Willow already started to move towards the east, walking backwards so she could look at Neto while doing so, "I don't care how far away it is, we can...- ah!" Gasping the little girl fell over backwards over a a bit of uneven ground, but was unhurt as the thick grass served as a buffer. This did not keep Willow from rubbing her behind while glaring at the offending patch of ground.

OOC: Nah, that's fine ^^

"No!" Willow exclaimed. "I don't want to go to the village! Those annoying elves live there!" Her face was beginning to grow angry again, her eyes glittering. "They always fuss over me when they see me! Make me take baths and sleep in a stupid bed!" she continued as she gave a stomp, "And then they won't let me go back to the forest unless I... No!"

But then the girl grinned suddenly and looked back at Neto once more. "But I want to see where you live! Show me, Neto, show me!" Willow began walking backwards, heading toward the river as she gazed at him excitedly. "I don't care how far away it is, we can...- ah!"

Willow fell backward as her foot stepped on an uneven place on the meadow, landing on her rump. Though the fall obviously wasn't hard enough to harm her, the green haired child rubbed her behind as she glared acidly at the spot that had caught her.

Knowing that it might offend her, Neto struggled to keep himself from smiling. Willow's choice in parents was quite strange. She wanted someone to love her, to care about her... but not enough to get in the way of her independent nature. And she had just proven this very colorfully.

"Alright then,"
the clouded leopard rumbled cheerfully as he padded in the direction of the river, his pelt brushing Willow as he walked past. "Let's get started. And when you get tired, you're welcome to sit on my back for a while."

After all, she was just a child- getting exhausted on a long walk like this was only inevitable.

Willow did not notice Neto's amusement as she continued to glare at the ground as if trying to think of a suitable punishment for it. Only when Neto brushed past her did she blink and look back up, quickly turning her head to follow where Neto was going. Instantly her mood shifted back to excitement and the lite girl scrambled back to her feet, "Wait for me!" she giggled as she half ran, half stumbled the few paces separating them. Putting her hand on his back the little girl adjusted her pace to his, even playfully trying to step in the same rhythm as Neto's front paws, then giggled again when this proved to be harder than she had thought.

Letting her hand slide of his back again she ran a few paces ahead before turning around to face him, "Can I really ride on your back, Neto? See?? You really are much nicer than the unicorns!" Laughing again she turned to run ahead once more, going down a gentle slope. "Come on, Neto! Let's race to the forest line!" she called over her shoulder, though this time taking care to still pay attention to where she was going, so she would not go down a second time.

Willow seemed overwhelmingly excited by the adventure that Neto was taking her on. "Can I really ride on your back, Neto?" the girl exclaimed. "See?? You really are much nicer than the unicorns!" The clouded leopard's ear twitched- had she really tried riding the vicious unicorns that she talked of?- but his line of thought was cut off by Willow's laughter. The green-haired child was now running ahead of him, giggling as she raced down the slope.

"Come on, Neto! Let's race to the forest line!"

Neto twitched his whiskers and murred with amusement. "Well, if it's a race you want!" He broke out into a run, his sleek coat rigid with the muscles that were working underneath. He planned to make a good sprint at first, but slow down before he could beat Willow. He didn't mind letting the girl win- he already knew that he was faster anyway.

OOC:

Sorry about the long wait, but my debates are finally over! Wooot! I'm freee!!!

... Unfortunately, I won't be able to post this weekend. Prom on Saturday and... I tend to sleep through Sunday after stuff like that xD

Also, will we eventually be switching to the River forum? And how long of a walk will that take? 2 hours, 3?
