Nairu (I'm back! 8D)
Name: Nairu (Na-Iroo)
Age: 16
Mature Adult at Age: 20
Gender: Female
Race: Aquean
Alliance: Benevolent
Appearance: Nairu has a long and graceful figure; her arms and legs are long and slender, but toned of that of an athlete. Her body is covered with very small, slightly soft scales, which, although much harder than skin, are not rough to touch or slimy. The scales mesh tightly: if rubbed backwards they do not peel. Her scales are grey silver in color, fading into a lighter hue for her hands and feet, but darker, fading into a charcoal grey, on her chest and spine. She has three small slits on either side of her neck, and two on each side of her chest, right above her hips, which are much larger. Her feet are thin, with the end half made almost entirely of cartilage, her toes merely supports for a webbed, flipper-like appendage. Her fingers are long and slender, with webbing from the second knuckle bone. She has fins, which connect at her wrist, and is about four inches wide; they are about as long as her arms. They taper out near the end, with a half circle curved inward, the outer edge longer than the inner. They are a bright reddish-pink, with three bone-like structures running through it, the fin a light grey color. They can fold over onto her arms, reaching her neck. Nairu’s neck is thin and slightly elongated. Her face makes her appear calm and serene. Her ears are pointed and slim, giving her an Elvin look. Her head extends into a tail like appendage, which reaches to a little past her shoulders, with a dolphin like fin at the end, the same color as her webbing and arm fins. Her eyes are almond shaped, with the iris the same color as her fins. Her lips and mouth are thin and small, and her nose is small and somewhat pointed, with light brows, also. Most anatomical structures are similar to that of a human, except they do not give live birth and do not require milk, subsequently.
Personality: Nairu is very quiet and shy around those she does not know. Modest and humble, she does not brag or taunt others. At times she becomes very anxious, and does not like to stay still for very long; instead she was rather be explaining and discovering new things. Although she does not brag, Nairu is extremely competitive and intelligent; in any sort of contest she is fast and calculating, the will to win and the audacity to do it overwhelming. This can be erroneous, however, because it can be used to lure her into a competition, her pride showing through this flaw. In a dangerous situation she is quick to react, adjusting to the challenge presented.
Abilities:
Gills: As with all members of her race, she can breathe underwater for an indefinite period of time.
Control of Water: Another defining feature or her race is the ability to control water, in any form. The amount of control varies from individual to individual; Nairu has been gifted with great control over water: it is easier for her than some, although she is inexperienced. While in the water, an Aquean can move the water around them, to swim much faster or shift directions suddenly. This becomes second nature to an Aquean. Nairu can reach 30 to 40 miles per hour in water, and is still able to stop suddenly. While out of the water an Aquean can control water, but it requires much more concentration. Control includes moving water, and changing its form. Nairu can alter currents in water, move water through the air (no more than about twenty gallons without really straining,) hardening it then using it as a weapon, change its form, and purify it.
Spearwork: Nairu has trained since she was a child to fight with a spear; her spear is exactly as tall as she is now, and is made out of a dark brown/black wood. It is thin, light weight, and easy to wield, with a silver design of ivy with leaves winding up the staff, and in the center of the staff is a small, dark blue gemstone. The blade is a simple diamond shape except for where it connects to the staff, with a silver piece with an odd symbol in it, similar to a Chinese letter.
Disadvantages:
Vulnerability: Although her skin is made of smooth scales, and is durable, she has no clothing or other protection.
Heat: An Aquean is best when in and around water; too much dry heat and they dry out, causing a burning sensation and dehydration. Also, they are vulnerable to any heat based attack.
Control of Water: It is taxing on her physical strength to control water; when she is in water it does not require much energy, but to channel water through the air becomes taxing if the amount exceeds more than about fifteen gallons. It does not require much to work with relatively small amounts of water or to purify it.
History:
Nairu was born and raised in her tribe, living in the North of the continent of (insert name here); the terrain is very rocky and turbulent, with many rivers, streams, and hot springs encasing the country side. The Aquean tribes are scattered among this harsh landscape, communicating with each other infrequently. They live a simple life, with much pride being placed on being the best swimmer. Nairu, being one of the best swimmers, fills this position among the younger Aqueans. She leads parties for gathering fish and other supplies, and while doing this is frequently challenged by others for top spot: she never loses. On one fateful day, while leading a party she is challenged to a race down the Devil’s Strait, a forbidden section to swim in, very deep, very fast, full of unknown caves, and crevices. Halfway through the run, however, Nairu is sucked into an underwater cavern, with fast flowing water, flowing into what look like sharp rocks….
IC Entrance:
Everything was a maelstrom of crushing water and sound as Nairu, for the first time in her known life, had lost control. The relentless water carried her into the submissive darkness, all of her will and might useless in the cold grasp of the current. She shouted silently as she slammed into a wall, the cold rocks tearing at the rough skin at her arm. There was no longer any direction, up, down, left, or right, only the pull of the current, and how powerful or giving it was. It was a constant fight, trying to pull at the current, the walls getting dangerously close to her now, and the current speeding up. In one final act of desperation she willed all of the water around her directly backwards, managing to halt herself for a moment with sheer will and strain. After a few minutes, horrible, painstaking minutes, she had not managed to backtrack in the slightest, and her power gave out, entirely exhausted, spinning through the water in a disorienting pattern, before her head made contact with a rock, a sickening sound even underwater, and her body slackened to the stream. If she had been awake she would've noticed the brightening sensation around her, or the slowing current. Then, the water level lowering until it left her on dry land, a completely absurd thought given her current predicament. She did not, however, notice this in the slightest, until she awoke, lying with the calls of birds all around her, in the soft breeze of the springtime. She winced in pain as she tried to sit up, the damage to her head gone entirely, but the wound to her shoulder still stinging as it healed. As her eyes focused she saw the massive forest, looming ahead of her, and still not fully comprehensive of what she was doing or where she resided, she stood shakily, walking slowly towards the forest that stared down at her.

Re: Nairu (I'm back! 8D)
Emmer tilted his head, a strange scent handing in the air, blowing past on the breeze. It held the scent of... fish? But, as far as he knew, there wasn't water in the immediate area. He turned his head into the offending breeze, sure enough the scent hit him square and yet it seemed hollow, somehow so similar and yet different.
He padded into that breeze, moving slowly curiousity getting the best of him as he moved through the trees drawing ever closer. The sound of feet came soon from farther ahead of him. "Hello?" he called, wondering if this strange scent was a person, perhaps a new comer to the forest like he himself was not long before.

Re: Nairu (I'm back! 8D)
Nairu looked forwards into the forest, stopping suddenly as she neared the edge of the forest, her grip tightening on her spear, looking forwards into the daunting forest. "Who is there? Show yourself!" She said, loudly, yet still relieved. At least there was someone here, who at least could speak. What magic was this that led her here...? Edging forwards towards the trees she looked around cautiously, moving in a quiet half-crouch towards the source of the noise, wishing that it was friendly, but knowing that there were other possibilities. She had no idea what to expect from these woods.

Re: Nairu (I'm back! 8D)
He stepped closer to the voice moving himself past the trees. He saw the figure and nearly reared seeing the spear in hand Fighting every natural instinct to run from something that seemed to be able to cause pain. He didn't, just taking a precautionary step back before he spoke again softly "Hello there."
His eyes glanced over the figure noting the smooth, almost scale like skin and the.. fins at the ends of her arms and on the back of her head. He managed a grin through his thick muzzle as he felt at her conciousness only the sense of fear and confusion that he assumed only natural for someone coming into a place they'd never seen before, he should haves known considering he was in her position not long ago.
He hoped he was sending a friendly message with his body language, not entirley sure that his current position was working well enough he employed a dog trick and sent his tail into a light wag, hoping it sent a positive message.

Re: Nairu (I'm back! 8D)
She slackened her grip on the spear, but did not move her eyes from the newcomer, not sure what to expect. She knew of other races on her planet, occupying the less wet areas of the planet. He was, similar, in a way, which was comforting. "Who are you? Where is this place?" She asked, her voice coming out much softly than she meant, looking around anxiously. Every instinct told her to run, to find water and think this out, calm herself, but that wasn't really an option here. Her only option was to trust this oncomer. Resisting the urge to clutch her shoulder she stood uncertainly, hoping that he knew the layout of the land around here, at least somewhat.

Re: Nairu (I'm back! 8D)
He saw the slack in her spear and grinned. "My name is Emmer. And this..." he turned and looked around them "is The Deep Forest" he said softly. He watched her and again probed a little at her mind, feeling pain, she was wounded. He scented the air to be sure and as luck would have it the faintest tingne of blood slipped past on the breeze but it was faint, there was no reason to believe that it was hers, after all the smell of blood was a potent one and tend to carry rather well through air, for those who could pick up on its scent.
His mind returned to her appearance. She was definitly built more like an amphibian and the question played into his mind if she was in so much peril because of the lack of water in the immediate area. maybe she'd been snatched out of the water by whatever force brought her here and left in the middle the trees with no idea why or what had occured. All of his thoughts started to sound ver familiar and he wondered if he'd seemed this frantic when he'd been found as a stranger in these trees.

Re: Nairu (I'm back! 8D)
The...Deep Forest?" She said, thrusting the back of her spear into the soft earth, holding herself up on it. Physically she was still as exhausted as if she had just swam, which she had, hadn't she? The physics of what had transpired plagued at her mind, though her younger side presented a simple answer: magic. Of course it was magic, but how? Why? Was this her punishment for her pride? Walking closer to this unusual being she looked around once more, hopeful to find at least some source of water, but there was nothing too close to here, she would have been able to sense an large body of water. Still using the spear like a walking stick, she asked again, but this question sounding considerably more urgent, "Is there any water nearby?" Her skin, although normally she would have been fine, was already beginning to dry out, making her wound considerably more painful.

Re: Nairu (I'm back! 8D)
Emmer watched her, her walk, even with her spear in hand was labored and he nearly winced. "There is no water nearby.. not that I know of." he said softly, his voice a bit down, his eyes dropping as well. He hated having to deliver the bad news to her. He raised his muzzle skyward and inhaled, trying to pick out the 'scent' that a river or stream would induce in the air. At first there was nothing, but as the wind changed he could smell it, feel it in the air as it went past. "I believe there is something in that direction" he muttered as he pointed with his muzzle. He then turned back to her, again watching her closely hoping that he could be of service to this young looking woman.

Re: Nairu (I'm back! 8D)
Nairu nodded stiffly, still propped up on her spear. It had seemed like ages since she had slept, and her body still felt the strain of that current....shivering she snapped back into reality, spending a moment to absorb the sights and sounds around her. This was where her reality was, at least for the moment. She could not afford to have her head in the past. Shakily, although not trying to appear so, she began walking in the aforementioned direction, still watching her newfound companion.

Emmer watched her closely before taking up step beside her. He didn't speak, just watched and listened and felt what he could without probing her conciousness. His eyes, when not focused on her, scanned the trees, searching for someone who could help hoping to not find someone or something that would threaten them. He kept his nose sharp, honing in on the water souce hoping it was close sensing the dire need in her gait and her mind.

Re: Nairu (I'm back! 8D)
She moved, not with so much a sense of great urgency, as a desire, a deep instinct to find herself in the water, to clear her mind and soth her body. Normally she would have stayed above water for much lnoger, and with greater ease, but in her current state it was becoming increasingly irritant, the wound on her shoulder crying out. Even she felt areound herself for nearby water and, after a moment, hoping that it was not onl her mind, she began to feel it. There! Up ahead! She quickened her pace once more, moving towards the source of water.

Re: Nairu (I'm back! 8D)
He noticed her quickened pace and smiled, knwoing that he'd done well by her, at least for now. He would have to wait to see how she would react to his help, what little of it he'd actually given. He let her hurry along, trailing behind her, watching, waiting, absorbing information from her and the forest as they walked. His tail wagged lightly as he padded along, his claws leaving furrows in the soft ground as they went along. His fur gleamed in the small beams of sunlight that managed to filter through the roof-like canopy over head and he smiled softly to himself, thinking to himself about somthing making him seem small, nothing had made him seem small in years.

There are so very many dramatic ways that vast, incomprehensible galactic phenomena can kill you, that every single day that you go unmurdered by space is a miracle.
