Incendanx watched as Devon made his way to his feet/hooves. He followed suit and rose as well, "You don't have to worry, my kind usually doesn't need long to rest." The sound of Devon's stomach caused Incendanx to bow slightly, "I apologize, I had forgotten that I was traveling with one that requires food. I could go for a snack as well,"He added with a smile. Incendanx began glancing around, but saw only snow covering most of the ground. "The environment isn't quite helping us at the moment though."
"Eh? You're good to go?" Devon gave a smile. "As long as you're sure."
He then jerked a little in surprise and shook his head at the bow and apology. "Hey, no need for that. Yeah, I'm a little peckish, but it's not like I'm starving. I can wait, really." The donkey joined the salamando in looking about the area. Yeah, there were a few hardy plants poking through the snow, but, other than the snowless patches, not much else. "Heh, you said it," he agreed, "And if your tastes are anything like mine, I can't recommend anything here." He started pointing with a hoof. "Those two I'm pretty sure are poisonous," -- so said his nose -- "that one gave me a stomachache," -- because he'd ignored his nose -- "and those couple... Eh, I'm definitely not hungry enough for that flavor." Devon shuddered at the memory. "Oh. But that one's okay, if you want something," he added to one last leafy thing. "Just not much taste to it."
He stretched his head to the side, producing a light cracking sound. "But yeah. Lots more to choose from once we get there. So, if you're set..." The former human flashed Incendanx another smile. "Let's go. It can't be that much further to the river." He remembered seeing it iced over one time, but, with some areas bereft of snow today, he wouldn't count on that.

Devon nodded at the decision to wait and attempted to give a thumb's up. Guess how that went. 'Stupid things...' he thought, lowering the hoof, and his ears, 'I miss my absent-minded hand gestures!' Moving on, "Err, good choice." he said with a smile. "Probably more insects in the warmth, too."
And so the odd duo headed off into the woods. There wasn't much new during the trip; just more blankets of white with the odd touch of green peeking through it. Well, there was one thing the former human noticed. He couldn't resist a chuckle. "Good, the trees are getting bigger..." he thought aloud. And then clarified for Incen, "Err, that means we're actually headed further in. It's easier than you might think to get turned around in here." The donkey still wondered if that was just his own godawful sense of direction or some property of Deep Forest. 'Just to be on the safe side... Damn you, Fairest!'

Incendanx watched as Devon rose his hoof a little in the air and then seemed a little disappointed as he lowered it. He wondered what it was he was trying to show, but soon dropped the thought when Devon continued. As Devon spoke, Incendanx glanced around and noticed that the trees were in fact, quite larger than when he first entered the forest. "Yes," He commented, "This land does seem large enough to get lost in."
Allowing himself to believe his companion just hadn't noticed the failed thumbs up, Devon nodded and started to hit the road again. "And all this white reeeally makes everything look the same. I'm hoping it gets easier to learn the area in the spring." He smiled. "And that this little snow means spring isn't too far off." Aside from that, much as donkey boy wasn't crazy about the idea of grazing, he had to admit: it would be very convenient to have food around at all times. 'Would certainly beat wandering around and getting lucky, I guess. Maybe I can make a decent search for the Fairest's name, then.'
Then the donkey's ears perked up, and swiveled a bit, their owner stopping in his tracks. Another smile. It's wasn't the all-important name, but one search was soon to end. "Hear that?" Incen probably couldn't; it was barely on the cusp of Devon's hearing as it was. "Not much further to the river, now." Devon hadn't realized how thirsty he was. And he had to imagine the reptile could go for a drink as well. He set a swifter pace. But not too much faster; the former human had a half-decent idea by now of how quickly he could move before inevitably stumbling to four legs. Still, it wouldn't be long until the river came into view.

Incendanx continued to follow Devon as they left their little resting spot. At Devon's mention of spring, Incendanx got a little excited, he wasn't used to snow or the cold and was awaiting the warmer season. Before he could ask about it, he was answered by Devon's next statement. "Well thats a relief, I was hoping I didn't arrive mid-winter." Incendanx glanced around his surroundings some more, thinking what the scenery might be like without the snow. I don't really see how it would be any easier to navigate here...but at least it would be more comfortable. Incendanx smiled to himself at this last thought, he hadn't been truly comfortable since his life with the group. He stopped suddenly as Devon heard something. He listened carefully, but couldn't pick up on what it was his partner had heard. At the mention of the river, Incendanx's tail whipped excitingly. He soon followed Devon once again, making their way ever closer to their goal.

A couple of question about his profile: what's the range on his fire throwing/spitting ability? Also, is there a maximum to the amount of energy he can store? I'd apreciate it if you could add this to his profile in a highlighted color ^_^
So far it seems to be going well, but you should know that not everybody can work very well when they get so little feedback (short RP post) in return, which may limit the amount of the people you could comfortably RP with. So you may want to continue practicing adding a little more meat to your posts and give people more to work with ^_^

A nod came in answer to Incen's words. "Aye. Fall had just started when I got sent here, too. I really wasn't looking forward to months of winter wonderland." Of course, that still might be in the offing; it could just be a day of unseasonable warmth near winter's beginning, for all he knew. 'Jebus, I hope not...' He shivered to think.
Back in the present, Devon had noticed the movements of the reptilian tail, and smiled a bit. They made him feel better about how his own length of rope had started swishing at the thought of a drink. Anyway, the peculiar duo were moving, now. And they kept moving through the snow and leafless trees for a bit longer than Devon expected; he was really going to have to get used to his new hearing range. He gave a lightly embarrassed "ee aww" that was meant to be a lightly embarrassed "eheh." After the requisite ear droops and clearing of the throat, this was followed by a more embarrassed "Sorry. Meant to say: I guess I jumped the gun." And indeed he had; there'd be over a full minute for Incen to respond.
After that however, donkey and salamando finally reached the river's edge. The Mississippi it wasn't, but it was flowing along nicely enough. 'That's good,' Devon thought. His ears had already told him it'd be flowing, of course, but for one so used to relying on his eyes, it had been nice to see it wasn't frozen over. Embarrassment over his sporadic animal noises forgotten, he simply stood there, looking at the water. He briefly licked his lips and felt his tail give another swish behind him. But politeness, a rather unreasonable politeness, stayed him; Incen, who could be deemed 'the guest,' should be 'served' first. It... wasn't really something he'd thought through. "So... Thirsty?"

Re: Enter: Incendanx
Incendanx listened as Devon explained about when he had first arrived. He glanced at Devon, taking more notice of the fur covering his body. It didn't seem particularly thick or all that warm to him, but then again, he (himself) had nothing but just skin protecting him and fared pretty decent in the cold. "So," he started, noticing Devon shake slightly, "how does your body handle these lower temperatures, are they a burden to you at all?" Incendanx was excited as they continued their trek to the water source, but soon saw that there were still no visible sign to him of any water. He slightly turned his gaze on Devon, seeing if he was still as sure of himself. As he did, Devon made a slight sound similar to what Incendanx had heard from him earlier. After which he cleared his throat and answered Incendanx's thought. He answered back, "Not a problem, I was just worried we were mistaken by our goal." "So," he continued, "have you been to this particular river before?" Moments later, they both reached their goal, a revatively wide river. Incendanx's eyes shone as he looked out at it, seeing what sunlight there was gleam off of it. He crept a bit closer and dipped his tail in, seeing that it wasn't quite as cold as he would figure. He looked over at Devon as he spoke. "Yes I am," he answered, "care to join me?" Incendanx leaned down, now standing on all fours, and stuck his nose into the water, feeling the coldness flow down his throat.
Re: Enter: Incendanx
"Mm?" Devon turned and blinked at the question. 'Huh, that kinda came out of nowhere... Oh. The shiver. Duh.' Still, the wording threw him a bit; most might have thought nothing of it, but Incen referred to a body that Devon didn't fully consider his own. "Umm... I hold up alright. I can still tell it's cool, but I'm comfortable. ... Mmmaybe not when it's freezing." He took a look at his arm and marveled again at how he'd gotten so shaggy without noticing. "The... I've actually gotten a lot more... fur since I've been here." Even if he hadn't meant, "Back when I didn't have any," it would have been true; he seemed to have grown a winter coat during his stay.
As they continued along their relatively snowless path, Incendanx shared his concerns politely. "Ah. No need to worry." Devon's ears continued to twitch and swivel at the growing sound of the river. He had more-or-less given up hope they would ever truly stay still and so resolved to ignore them, instead addressing the salamando's questions. "We're definitely getting closer to the river." His resolve faltered and his eyes darted briefly in the ears' direction. "Trust me. And about my being there before..." The donkey flashed another sheepish grin. "Like I said, geography isn't really my forte. Maybe I have, or maybe it's new. I'm not sure I could say when we got there."
And then they were there. And Devon, if nothing else, proved skillful at judging his own incompetence. 'Thanks...' Whether it was the same river he had seen before, it was a lovely sight. He chuckled a bit as Incen checked the water temperature in an unexpected manner. "Absolutely," he answered the question, relieved that the chains of politeness no longer bound him on that point. And so he hurried over. Much as he preferred a bipedal stance, the donkey knew he was rather short on options if he wanted a drink of water. Eh, the sooner you do it, the sooner you can stop.' With a breath, he fell forward onto his front hooves. At least the newcomer going to all fours as well made him a bit less self-conscious. Tail giving another swish, he trotted to the river's edge, not far from Incen. Devon stretched his neck down and, in a still unfamiliar and embarrassed manner, proceeded to drink in typical equine style.

((OOC: Sorry it's been so long, the past two months just shot past me. It seems it was accepted, but we can continue this thread if you would like.))
Incendanx watched as Devon answered the question, looking at his own fur as if noticing it for the first time. "Oh, I see," he began, "I've met alot of people who grew thicker coats in colder weather." After mention of this, he held out his scaly bare arm. "My species wasn't so lucky," he said with a grin. Later down to trail, Devon reassured Incendanx of his slight worry, stating that the river was getting ever closer. "I know what you mean," Incendanx began, after Devon's mention of the location of the river, "I'm pretty directionally challenged myself. My species tends to just stay in one area at a time and remain in that general area." A bit later at the rivers edge, Incendanx continued drinking his fill as Devon settled himself on all fours at the edge close by. Incendanx finished drinking and leaned back to a sitting position, with his tail draped in the water. He glanced up at the somewhat cloudy sky, seeing small rays of light filter through certain spots.

((Heh, I know the feeling. And sure, I'm up for continuing it a while more. We could always go until we hit a natural-feeling end point, if you'd like))
At the mention of his species's scaly misfortune, Devon gave a return smirk. "Eh, you guys seem built for the heat, that's all. When it gets closer to summer, I bet you'll be comfy," he gave the length of his body a brush with one hoof, "and I'll be hoping some of this stuff comes off. Being baked in my own skin doesn't sound fun." The smile shrank a bit as the young man returned to a sobering thought: 'How long am I gonna be stuck like this, anyway?'
Then a sympathetic nod as he learned Salamandos didn't do much traveling. "Same with mine. Some of it's just laziness, I know, but jobs and school have a way of tying people down. Though I guess there are vacations, and some people manage to do a lot more wandering."
As the donkey found himself thirstier than he thought, he gave a shiver at the icy water, but left Incen to a moment of quiet contemplation. Not silent, though; aside from the river's flow, Devon wasn't quite practiced at the art of drinking quietly, and so his guzzling made its contribution to the background sounds. After a bit, he simply lifted his head, gave a relieved, "Ah," and licked his chops.

((That's fine by me))
Incendanx smiled at Devon's comment, "Yes, I always feel livelier ((maybe more lively? not really sure)) in the hotter seasons. I'm sure your coat will thin out, otherwise it would have been thick always to begin with, correct?" Incendanx nodded as Devon explained the traveling ways of his people, but was caught a little off guard by a couple unfamiliar words mentioned. "School...is that like advanced placement jobs or something? Do vacations expell residents from your clan? Incendanx asked, unable to piece together any roots of the words. As Incendanx gazed around his surroundings after hid drink, he noticed Devon reacting to the chilled water. Incendanx slyly extended his tail to just upstream of where Devon was drinking and began releasing small streams of energy, heating the water a couple degrees.

Re: Enter: Incendanx
Devon nodded at the suggestion of what his coat would be doing. "Yeah, I know it will. I guess I'm not looking forward to leaving a trail everywhere I go, though." The former human had owned plenty of dogs and cats; the thought doing that himself held little appeal. He shrugged. "Shedding... Oh, well..." It then occurred to him that he was speaking to a giant reptile. "Ah, right. Do your people shed your skins?"
Then it was time to clear things up on some unfamiliar terms he had introduced. He thought a moment how to go about it. "Schools... Well... Some people have teaching others as their job. They teach us some practical things, some cultural things, and some things that are just good to know. Everyone has about 12 years to go through, but some people, like me, go in for four more years with more... advanced classes. And some people keep going for even longer than that. Umm... Yeah." Donkey boy felt he had offered up a rather piss-poor description of education, but was more confident he could do 'vacations' justice: "Oh, no. Most people like to take vacations. Every now and then, they can take a break from their job or school, and just visit somewhere else for a while. A change of scenery can be kinda nice. I, err, remember not really enjoying them much when I was little, though." He gave another little smile. "And winding up here in the Forest is... not the sort of vacation I would have thought."
The warmed water went noticed, and Devon briefly paused in his drinking to give Incen a curious glance, and then a somewhat grateful one, before resuming. He hadn't really minded the chill; he was actually hoping it would wake him up a bit. But, as it had done its job, the donkey was glad for more temperate water. "Thanks," he said, pulling himself upright again. He smiled. "That's a neat ability. Really useful, too, in this weather." He'd been wondering about the similar species name to the fiery salamanders (and identical to the Fire Elemental in the Secret of Mana games). With this display of energy release, he had to ask. "So... And don't feel like you have to or anything, but... Can you make fire, too?"

Re: Enter: Incendanx
"That could be bothersome I suppose," Incendanx commented about the shedding, "I don't recall how any of my furrier acquaintances delt with that particular issue." He thought about Devon's next question, "Well, we don't exactly shed, but if we happen to lose any scales for whatever reason, we have a pretty high growth rate for new ones." Devon then tried explaining the terms to him. "So school is like your training? Does your additional years of training make you superior to others of your species?" He then listened to the description of vacations, hoping that would be clearer to him. "Oh, well I suppose I went on a vacation of sorts years ago, and I ended up at a much more enjoyable place." He paused for a moment then continued, "Though a while after that I was forced to take another vacation, which wasn't so pleasant....but then I ended up here, so it can't be all that bad," He said with a smile. At the river's side, Devon and Incendanx just finished their drink. "It's no problem," Incendanx said with a slight chuckle, "It does come in handy to counteract our exposed bodies." At Devon's question, Incendanx smiled and held out his hands, palm up. Two small flames, about five inches or so each, sprang up from the center of his palms.

Devon nodded at the first responses. "Ah, I see." It hadn't even occurred to ask someone how other fur-covered individuals dealt with it. Like most issues he had with his new body, he felt embarrassed about asking someone who would likely know. He knew this was irrational, but would have still preferred not to have to ask about it. 'Then again, I guess if I just knew that kind of stuff, I'd probably be worrying about how else my mind had changed... ... I think I'm better off without that.' Observing that the other side wasn't nearly as green as it looked cheered him. Until the thought of grass from the metaphor brought another little rumble from his stomach. 'Quiet, you...'
As for school, the donkey nodded to the first question. At the second, his ears dipped a bit, and his face slipped into ambivalence. At the mere suggestion that he might be better than others, it was as though his inferiority complex dug in with its many claws and teeth, fearful of being wrenched from its host. "Err, I... Well, I wouldn't say..." He floundered among "Uhh,"s and "Umm,"s for a bit before he worked out what he would say: "Well, not so much superior as more specialized, I guess. People see I've had those extra years of school, see what I've studied, and then are more likely to give me certain jobs than otherwise. People who go through even more school get even more specialized work." It was still far from perfect, but he wasn't dissatisfied with his answer there.
Explaining 'vacation' indeed proved more straightforward. Though the reminder the Salamando hadn't had the cheeriest of pasts got another sympathetic smile from Devon. And a nod, at the last. "I think you'll really like it here, once it gets warmer." The smile became more of a smirk. "Especially after you run into someone more--" Naturally, another "ee aw" found its way in there. After another frustrated breath, he continued, "someone more interesting. Well, interesting in a good way, anyhow..." He gave a little smile and another 'what are ya gonna do' shrug.
"I can imagine," Devon said with a nod. And then came the pyrotechnics. In spite of himself, the donkey's smile broadened over his entire muzzle, his tail swished behind him, and he laughed a bit. At least he didn't try to clap with hooves. 'Okay, yeah, you're acting like a little kid, you've seen people do and you have done some other neat things since you got here, but the guy just made fire in his hands! No beating yourself up over this.' So, instead, he calmed a little and simply told Incen what he thought: "Awesome."
