Orone, Hub of Worlds

"Orone: This city has been described in many ways: The City of Towers, the City of Guilds, the City of Doors. Then, the guilds were sued by these wizard fellows who lived by the coast. After cycling through a number of alternative names, they eventually settled on Hub of Worlds. Simple, Easy to Remember, and fits extremely well on post cards. The Gnomish Printing Consortium almost became a guild overnight thanks to that decision, if only they hadn't annoyed the great wyrm Marlythrax the Magnificent. However, what Orone lost in the resulting blaze, it made up for with their urban renewal project centred around the Gnomish Memorial Park and Demolitions Range."

-Hitchhiker's Guide to Multiverse, Revised Standard Edition

At the heart of the multiverse, the intersection of a thousand thousand portals, lies the great City of Orone. Millions of souls mix and mingle upon her streets, some from worlds just like ours, others from places we can scarcely imagine. Beings of countless races, faiths, cultures, and backgrounds pass through the city's docks and portals every day. They come from every corner of the known planes to trade and barter, to exchange ideas and knowledge, to escape and hide, or to adventure and explore. Governed by sixteen great guilds, the floating isles of Orone have known relative peace and prosperity for the past millenia, though do not mistake that for boring, oh gods no... if it's not the guilds plotting against each other, then it's the worker's unions, or the crime syndicates, or the smugglers, or the- well, needless to say, on many worlds, a "Boring Day in Orone" has come to mean the same as a "Cold Day in Hell"

The many wards of the city constantly bustle with life and activity. New arrivals or returning residents pour in and out of the many portals of Crossroads, while the skyships and planar vessels unload their myriad cargo at the Central Port during all hours. As students of the arcane and other esoteric arts weave their way through the colleges of the High District, those who follow the divine or find solace in nature retreat to the Woods for meditation and inspiration. The Bazaar of Worlds has merchants of all stripes and sorts, able to sell one nearly anything one desires, and what they can't or won't obtain, those who dwell within the Undercity can and will... for a price, of course. The monolithic towers of the Lake District, the foundries and factories of the Slums, the jails and garrisons of the Forge, the peaceful neighbourhoods of Midlands, the political intrigue of the Towers, the manors of the Sunrise Isles... there's a place for every story within the City at the Heart of the Mulitverse, and a story for every place.

So just step through that portal there, or hitch a ride on that skyship, and take a journey to the Hub of Worlds. Any character, any story, any concept or theme can be explored within her confines. From elves to dwarves, from giants to fae, from undead to lycanthropes, from orcs to dragons, from angels to demons to elementals to beings of the realms beyond to fallen gods to giant space hamsters from Proxion Gama IV, and from beast folk to plain old humans, any character you dream of can find their way onto the streets and into the towers of Orone. So come on in, pull up a chair, and join in the interesting, engaging, oftentimes quirky, and always exciting tales of Orone, Hub of worlds!

"Before, I used to think that only two things were infinite: the multiverse, and stupidity. After visiting Orone, I am now certain there are three things that are indeed infinite: the multiverse, stupidity, and insanity. And since receiving reports of the the borders of the Infinite Plane of Muffins and Pancakes*... I'm beginning to question the infinity of the multiverse...

*Also, do not eat the contents of the Great Wall of Dough, however tempting the chocolate chip and banana mixture may appear... the adventurer we hired ended up turning into a giant cupcake-headed beast with a bizarre craving for frosting and sprinkles. The researchers at the Arcane Institute were unable to restore him, but at least we can verify he was indeed delicious, albeit a little undercooked."
