The Unknown World (Simi)
Name: Simi (see-mee)
Species: Simi is a unicorn subspecies known as "Shifters."
Gender: Female
Age: When she first came to Deep Forest, Simi was 8 years old. She is now 10.
Maturity: Young Adult
Life Expectancy: A Shifter's bond to their forest is very strong, and if they wish it, they may also bond their very life-force to that of their forest's to gain immortality, absorbing it back should they ever be forced to leave, and re-depositing that life force into their new home; repeated as necessary. Without this, a shifter unicorn's lifespan is about 700 years. Simi has bonded to Deep Forest, but has yet to bond her actual life-force to it as well. Her immortality remains undecided for now.
View of the Forest: "My home. My sanctuary."
Demeanor: Timid, thoughtful, considerate.
Appearance:
http://fav.me/d5vcmpe
Simi’s shape doesn't quite resemble that of a horse's as much as it does the body of a sight hound; she is tall and slender, graceful and delicate. Her coat is the color of a cloudless afternoon sky, with a patch of darker blue-violet on her back. Her mane and tail hold various shades of light blues and turquoises, and the visible colors differ depending on the angle that you see her. Her hooves are a simple gray-silver, her spiraled horn seeming to have been carved from ice. Simi’s eyes are dark indigo so deep that it could be mistaken for black at a distance. Her coat glows in moonlight.
As a Phoenix, Simi has the appearance of a large, graceful swan, only she wears dark blue talons in place of webbed feet. All her feathers are a shade of icy blue, and her tail is long and wavy. The back of her head is decorated with longer feathers, like that of a cockatoo.
In her unicorn form, Simi stands at about 6 feet 4 inches from head to toe. As a phoenix, no taller than 4 feet.
Two Years Later: To be frank, not much has changed about her. Her legs are still long, but a little less gangly than before. She still has the ability to morph into a Phoenix, but now some of her feathers have grown brighter highlights within her blue shades. Simi’s heights in both forms have not changed.
Voice of Deep Forest: During the course of this forum-wide plot, the forest's derealization altered Simi's shape, turning her into a hippogryph cross between her unicorn and phoenix forms. Her fore-feet were now phoenix-talons instead of hooves; with three toes at the front and one at the back for each foot. Here is a conceptual sketch of how she looks at this time, as well as a headshot of Simi's temporary facial features: http://fav.me/d56s2ki , http://fav.me/d4x1hir
Personality:
Simi is a gentle, soft-spoken soul with a shyly considerate and thoughtful nature. She's quite timid around new faces, especially when a large crowd is involved, but a kind word or a friendly joke could do wonders to bring her out of her shell. She usually prefers to hang back in the crowd; not out of antisocial hang-ups, but out of a low self esteem. Simi just believes that anything that comes out of her mouth will sound stupid, and as a result, her integration into main conversations will be quite slow.
However, while meeting new people can be an incredibly daunting challenge for her, Simi would disregard her timidity if someone she didn't know needed immediate help (be that protection or a simple favor). She is a good Samaritan in all senses of the word, and would step in between an attacker and their victim, no matter how fierce they may be.
Around her well-known friends, Simi is much more relaxed. Her ears are often pricked forward, willing to listen to their problems and give her support, and in the right mood she could even be playful. Simi’s favorite games are tag, racing, and anything to do with flying, though this particular game can only be done in the winter for reasons that will be said later on.
Her loyalty to her friends is incredibly strong. The unicorn cannot bear to see anyone close to her heart in pain or suffering, and Simi will give her all to defend them, regardless of her own injuries or disadvantages. However, if on her own facing an intimidating being, Simi would turn tail and run out of there as fast as she could. In company, she's selfless. Alone, she's a coward.
Because of her traumatic past, Simi isn’t very friendly with human-like creatures. You will immediately have to prove to her that the other character isn’t human before she makes assumptions.
Two Years Later: As an adult who has lived two years in Deep Forest, Simi isn’t as timid or easily frightened as she used to be. With the knowledge that the forest accepts no actual humans, she isn’t as wary of humanoid creatures. She is still shy around new faces, but makes more of an effort to be friendly.
The general inhabitants of Deep Forest have also clearly rubbed off on her when it comes to her demeanor and the way she interacts with others. Once striving to be formal and polite with her tone of voice, Simi's conduct has grown more loose over her two years here. She's more direct and less "regal," although she does slip back into old habits when the company around her calls for that sort of manners.
If there's one thing that hasn't changed, however, it's Simi's low confidence. She can be quite self-conscious, and half the time she's not very sure of herself or her actions. When under a lot of stress, she still tends to stammer.
Abilities:
(I) Simi's horn has several useful qualities and abilities that allow it to:
a) penetrate armor as well as break through weaker spell barriers.
b) mend the scratches of broken diamonds, jewels, and other precious stones (though this ability has little value to her, she'd gladly do it for a friend).
c) create layers of ice around non-living objects.
d) grow plantlife.
e) heal minor wounds and remove poison from wounds.
f) purify poisoned water.
(II) Simi's unicorn inheritance enables her to communicate with sentient creatures who don't know how to speak with words.
(III) Simi's most prized gift is the ability to shape shift into a phoenix, whose talons and beak are sharp enough to give even the thickest hide a good scratch. When under enough anxiety or adrenaline, her feathers can sprout a coat of icy-blue holy fire.
*Two Years Later: Now that she is an adult, her fire can actually harm those whom she feels threatened by. However, any close friend of Simi's could touch the fire and pull their hand away unscathed. Though she cannot bring the fire at will, she can now at least suppress it when her emotions get too strong.
(IV) Simi can run for up to 40 miles an hour, and fly up to a speed of 120 miles an hour.
*Two Years Later: Her newly gained muscle allows her to now run at 60 miles an hour in her unicorn form, and fly at 180 hours in phoenix form.
Voice of Deep Forest: During the course of this forum-wide plot, the forest's derealization has altered Simi's shape, turning her into a hippogryph cross between her unicorn and phoenix forms. As a result, her abilities and disadvantages have been changed as well. Right now, Simi does not have a horn, and therefore her only real combat advantage remains in her beak, which has taken on the strength that her horn used to have. She can use her beak to penetrate armor and slash through skin (although she can no longer stab through mild spells), and pressing her forehead to a wound can stop the bleeding and take away the pain (although she can no longer fully heal). While she can still summon flames on her wings, they are back to the harmless state they were before Simi had reached maturity. She can still run-- and now fly-- but her speeds are also back to the way they were pre-adulthood.
Disadvantages:
(I) Horn Disadvantages:
a) When Simi uses her horn for battle, too much blood cannot cover it or else it will weaken her and she will lose focus, which is why most of the injuries she will give are quick, but painful slashes of the skin.
b) Her ice-layers are ever only half an inch thick at best, and again, cannot be used on living creatures.
c) Simi cannot grow plant-life in a barren place (such as the Wastelands).
d) Simi cannot heal severe wounds for the same reason she can't use her horn for too long in battle; too much blood, too difficult of a task. Even with someone present to wipe the blood away from her as she works, severe wounds may exhaust her to the point of losing consciousness.
e) While she can purify poison, she cannot heal illnesses.
(II) As a phoenix she can bite into an enemy as deeply as she can without being affected by blood-contact, but her strength as a phoenix, along with the ability to change into one without difficulty, depends on the season. In winter she is at her strongest. In summer, it’s incredibly painful for her to transform and it could actually prove near-fatal for her to stay in the form for very long at all. The holy fire on her feathers is virtually harmless, and can be quite the trouble-maker. Simi cannot summon it by will, for it only appears if she's in great distress or anger, and she cannot suppress the fire or will it to disappear if she wanted it to. Though her horn can scratch through armor and mild spells (with permission), her beak and talons as a phoenix are unable to penetrate through anything stronger than leather or hide protection, and spells are out of the question.
*Two Years Later: The new harmful effects of her phoenix fire are rendered useless if her feathers are wet. The fire can also be neutralized by stronger spells.
(III) While Simi's speeds are impressive, it stands to reason that the faster one goes, the quicker one tires. Her casual speed is 30 miles an hour on land, 50 miles an hour in the air.
(IV)Another characteristic of Simi serves as more of a disadvantage than an advantage. This isn’t out of her own will, but if anyone close to her heart is going through incredible emotional, mental, or physical pain, she will feel it as well and just as strongly. If that person happens to die, there's a chance that Simi could faint from the sudden severing of that bond, remaining unconscious for as short as a few minutes or as long as an hour. You could, in a way, say the same for her bond to Deep Forest. If, for some reason, a unicorn has not broken his or her bond with a forest before it was destroyed (whether they'd stored their life force or not), they will die along with it immediately. However, it is hard for a unicorn to abandon their home, as their kind are much happier and healthier when bonded to a forest.
Voice of Deep Forest: During the course of this forum-wide plot, the forest's derealization has altered Simi's shape, turning her into a hippogryph cross between her unicorn and phoenix forms. As a result, her abilities and disadvantages have been changed as well. While Simi has lost her horn and therefore most of its abilities, she can still stop a wound from bleeding and take away its pain by pressing her forehead to the affected area. However, her being a hippogryph doesn't change the fact that she's not meant to use her phoenix shape outside of winter. Half of her body is a phoenix, and as a result, whenever she takes flight a headache pulses behind her eyes, its severity depending on how long she remains above the air. Simi's painful connection to her friends, as well as her bond to Deep Forest, has not changed.
Family:
Alayla- Mother. Green Unicorn with a darker spot of green on her back and dark violet eyes. her mane is made of shades of cyan and white.
Rintan- Father. White Unicorn with dark blue mane and sharp blue eyes. Simi saw him only very rarely and as a result, knows little to nothing of her father.
Sibeta- Older Sister. White unicorn with blue mane and icy blue eyes (talked about more in Simi's History)
UV Friends:
Zero Drawn(ZeroDrawn; departed)- Simi had met Zero in this very thread, and again in two others. The two had become close friends, but the neko mysteriously disappeared over the course of Simi's time here. The unicorn was hurt and confused by this sudden departing, and she spent nearly a year grieving quietly in Silvertree Grove before she accepted the fact that her friend wasn't coming back.
Lyrial (forger; acquaintance)- Simi first met Lyrial in another character's joining thread. She would like to think of her as a friend, but somewhat doubts that Lyrial thinks of her the same way.
Devon (Gaius; acquaintance)- Simi first met Devon in a rather unfortunate encounter with an unliving antihero. She knows his name and who he is, but not much more than that.
Klinge (forger; acquaintance)- Simi first met Klinge at The Prison, during the beginnings of the plot Voice of Deep Forest, and briefly got acquainted with him when derealization whisked them both to the River. Under the circumstances, however, there had been no real time for getting to know each other, what with raining fireballs, the attack of gigantic ants, and the plot itself.
Attor (Windra; departed)- Simi first met Attor at The River, when she and Klinge had been thrown there due to derealization. When she first met him, Attor had been temporarily altered by Deep Forest's changes into a bumbling, silly, and endearing fellow... and she was quick to call him a friend; not just because of this, but for the rather chaotic adventure they had together moments later. Within the span of mere hours the two escaped raining fireballs, discovered underwater caves and forests, and battled for their lives against an army of giant ants before finding a portal to lead them back to the main plot area, The Prison, where Attor soon fell unconscious due to the strain of their encounters. When the dragon finally awakened-- his true personality of dignified ferocity returned-- Simi was unknowingly and incredibly lucky that he'd decided not to mark her as a snack. Attor was grateful for the Shifter's saving his life, but otherwise was more inclined to associate with her as little as possible from now on... sort of. Kind of. So Simi had to cope with one of her friends being a 'kinda-sorta' friend. She wasn't really sure what to call him, although 'friend' still seemed about right to keep using. It was... complicated. But then he left the Forest for whatever reason.
Aianna (Brandr; acquaintance)- Simi first met the feathered dragon not long after she and Attor had arrived again at The Prison. Aianna's kindly concern and wise words quickly calmed the hippogryph down after having just barely survived an incredibly terrifying day. Simi was glad to have met her.
Naira (Windra; acquaintance)- Simi had also met Naira when she returned to the Prison with an unconscious Attor. The hippogryph was panicking helplessly over the dragon's wounds, but it was Naira's coaxing that restored her confidence and encouraged her to try and heal him anyway. It worked, and Simi was grateful to the Soul Reaver since.
Entropy (Lux; acquaintance)- She's rather... different from other people Simi's met, before. But still nice. And very helpful when it comes to the important things!
Norad (Vizir; ??? )- He's frightening, to say the least. But apparently he's also a good person? She'd rather not stick around to find out.
Nei (Lux; acquaintance)- After healing Attor's damaged leg, Simi was forever grateful to the girl.

(to be filled)
History:
Simi was first born one wintry day in the sunlit glade of a modest and ordinary woods, dreams away from what would later be her final foresty abode. It may not have been as grand or magnificent as Deep Forest's, but it was beautiful, nonetheless, and full of just enough life for a small family of shape-shifting unicorns (appropriately titled "Shifters") to call home.
However, Simi's childhood wasn't quite what you'd expect for a unicorn. While raised solely by her mother, she actually lived within a small community of their kind who resided in these woods. Shifters are different from most other unicorns in that their lives aren't as strictly solitary. Individuals of this species are not known for claiming whole forests for themselves, instead content for an entire blessing (small herd) to share a forest as their home, not so much as a united tribe but a peaceful band of neighbors who may choose to live in different areas of the woods they share, much like deer. You would think that this would make Shifter children very sociable and pleasant in nature, but for little Simi, this wasn't the case. She was always a shy and timid soul, and no amount of company seemed to remedy this. However, she was still very happy in her forest and treasured her home just as much as any other of the unicorns who lived here.
From her very early days, Simi was taught by her mother, Alayla, that every life in the forest-- from all the animals to the little green sprouts in the earth-- were a Shifter's utmost responsibility. It was her duty to watch over them and care for them, for this was her forest, and she was its guardian as were all the unicorns who lived in these woods. However, for a Shifter, their first love is the forest they care for, and an adoration for all things that live and grow comes naturally. Simi may have been inclined to hide behind her mother's legs for every unicorn they came across; but when it came to squirrels and badgers and even deer, the little foal took delight in every new face she met.
Simi soon learned that her second-shape was that of an ice-phoenix, and that she could only become a phoenix when the weather was cold enough for snow. Like herself, all the other unicorns in this forest had the ability to shape-shift into some different creature or another, and they all had their own strongest seasons. Simi’s mother, for example, could become a green furred fox, a skill that could only be shown in the Spring.
She stayed close to her mother's side for the first four winters of her life, though as soon as she reached proper colt age, she was left by herself more often and for longer periods of time. Lonesome from her mother's growing absence, Simi eventually found company and friendship in her older sister, Sibeta. Sibeta was a headstrong, surefooted and very independent unicorn who was at least four season cycles older than Simi, but she didn't mind her younger sibling tagging along and even enjoyed the companionship.
Every now and then, Simi and her family would cross paths with Rintan, the stallion unicorn who was Alayla's mate and Simi and Sibeta's father. Neither of the two foals were well acquainted with him. Rintan would take some interest in Simi and Sibeta, but not enough for them to develop any relationship with him. All the two sisters knew was that Rintan was their sire. They didn't even know his second shape or his strongest season. However, Rintan and Alayla would often talk together when they were alone with each other.
As she grew and matured, Simi eventually found close friends among the little animals that scurried around her legs and in the treetops, and even a few in her own her own kind. Her early years were indeed treasured....
And then the humans found them.
At first they had come to hunt the animals that the unicorns so lovingly guarded, and the unicorns, appalled and angered, revealed themselves to frighten the humans away. However, this did more harm than good. The humans, though terrified of these animals, found their unnaturally beautiful coats and horns intriguing...... too intriguing.
And so began the slaughter of Simi’s people. The hunting dogs that had originally been trained to attack foxes and rodents were now also ordered to swarm around a lone Shifter and take him down brutally. However, this first attack strategy failed miserably. All beasts revered the beauty and grace of unicorns, and even dogs found themselves unable to do anything but stare at their targets in humbled awe. The enraged humans were forced to take things into their own hands.
Arrows whizzed past the leaves, striking the unprepared horned creature trying to escape. Fires were lit to drive the forest's keepers out of their hidden glades. Men themselves tried to rope a unicorn and take it back for breeding more tame young, but as a unicorn is too wild and graceful to be domesticated this couldn’t be done. The humans also eventually learned to distinguish a unicorn in disguise by looking at their coats- A blue fox was certainly not the same as a red one.
All around her, Simi’s world collapsed in a puddle of mingled blood and fallen grace. Some unicorns were frightened enough to break their bond with the forest and leave for a safer land. Some grew into many, and eventually that included Simi’s mother. Alayla desperately tried to convince Simi and Sibeta to come with her, but the two sisters refused. Simi was too bonded to this forest, this home of hers that had originally treated her so well, she refused to give it up forever. And Sibeta wasn't willing to leave her sister to a falling forest. Alayla and Simi both argued sides that were heard and shared by many of the other unicorns... but eventually Alayla was forced to realize that Simi, too, had come of age. She was eight years old, and ready to make decisions for her own life. Eventually Alayla left Simi and Sibeta behind, leaving them to their fate.
However, as the remaining unicorns were forced to realize, the forest was a lost cause. It was when only a mere few unicorns were left surviving and most of the animals had fled the woods that they finally left on their own terms. Simi and Sibeta were separated in a terrible incident with fire, and the spreading flames forced them far apart. Desperate to escape a burning death, Simi herself had shifted into her fastest shape as a phoenix, and sped away from her old home as quickly as she could.
That night, Simi felt a piercing pain in her heart that forced her to collapse under the safety of some far-away bushes. When she came to the next morning, the terrible ache was still felt in her chest, and though she had received no injuries, Simi knew exactly what that awful feeling was. When friends or family that a Shifter was particularly close to has died, they feel a jolt of pain through their chest and lose consciousness for some hours. Simi's mother must have died last night. The raw grief tore at her, and only encouraged the young unicorn to get as far away from this cruel place as possible. She once again shifted into an ice-phoenix, and this time, she didn't stop for anything. The only thing that dulled the sharpness of Simi's emotional pain was the knowledge that although she didn't know where Sibeta was, that her sister was at least alive... somewhere.
Up to this day, Simi still takes comfort knowing that Sibeta is alive and well, wherever she is, and does hope to see her again someday.
After many, many days and nights of off-and-on traveling, Simi came across a new forest.....
Deep Forest.

Anything Else We Need to Know?: My character’s color and wings are inspired by the unique birds that glow in the dark from the movie, “Journey to the Center of the Earth.” They were the creatures that enthralled me the most. http://media.filmschoolrejects.com/imag ... oster1.jpg You can see the bird flying a little above the guy in the front. I would have to thank my friend, Alex, for telling me about Unicorn Visions. She knew how much I liked unicorns and when she found this site, she gave the link to me. I don’t really know how she herself found the site, though.
I would rather not recreate a joining thread. The first one is fine enough, for me. =3 I just wanted to add in these edits.
IC (In Character) Entrance:
The scents..... they are different.
Blinking out the falling snow, her chest heaving in and out for air, Simi glided towards the ground slowly, and cautiously. While this storm was giving her energy that she welcomed gratefully, it was also hard to focus with all these snowflakes dancing around her, their soft, white flurries ruining her focus. She pushed her talons in front of her to grip the earth.
Her claws grabbed icy snow, and the unique blue phoenix gently balanced herself with her icy blue wings. There! A perfect landing. Simi sighed in relief, and she folded the wings against her neatly. She then bowed her head to bring herself to her natural form.
For a moment things grew dark and peaceful.
Breathing calmly, Simi opened her dark violet eyes to scan the new area around her. She remembered the new, different scents, and she wanted to know where they were coming from. She braced her muscles and pushed herself up. Her wings, and her birdlike shape had vanished. Simi had returned to her natural form, which was a sky-blue unicorn with turquoise mane and a clear, crystal-ice horn.
Simi raised her head cautiously, taking in all the scents. She had never been here before, that Simi knew. However, something about this new, strange forest drew her in....... it seemed...... she didn’t know how to explain it. But it attracted her.

((OoC: A few questions:
Despite fast flight, and sharp talons and beak, her phoenix form has no other special abilities?
Can her beak and talons be hindered by armor or magic?
How fast can she fly?
And, for curiosity's sake, do you have an image of those glowy birds? I haven't seen them before.
Please highlight any modifications in another color or bold them so they may be found easily. If you should have questions at any time please don't hesitate to ask them. You're also welcome and encouraged to participate in out of character activities so that we may get to know you, and you us!

((Hope ya don't mind if I hop in! See my own joinin topic if ya need a better idea of what the character looks like!))
Off in the distance, a fuzzy black thing could potentially be seen as it dug through the snow and tossed clumps of it into the air behind him. Zero Darius Drawn meandered through the snowy wasteland, his foodless desperation having reached a point where he was ready to consume just about anything, even bugs if it came down to it. But there was a problem.
Even if there were bugs, the snow likely hid them from his view, and his small statured (4'4) Nekojin self couldn't move very much of the snow at any given time to easily locate them. Not to mention that because of the fact he only wore a t-shirt and some bluejeans, it was getting kinda cold. It almost made him wonder if he should have invested in some sort of custom designed shoes for his catfeet.
"Whenever ya dun want 'em, they're all over tha place! But when yeh NEED em, they ain't nowhere! Fricken bugs!"
Zero kicked a snowpile in frustration, but was punished for his tantrum by having landed his big toe squarely into a rock. He grabbed his foot and hopped around on one leg, meowing feline obscenities.
"Ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow! That's not cool! That's really not cool man!"
He let his foot to the ground as the immidiate pain settled, but now he was left with a steady throb which just added unecessary unpleasentness to his hunger. He was about to complain some more, when he spotted her, and he froze. Approximately 40 yards away from him stood a creature that could only be described by one word in his mind.
Beautiful...
He had stared in stark, unwavering silence for a minute or two before he shook himself out of his daze and immidiately began to approach her. His movement was quick and excited, but he made no attempt to conceal himself. It would have been really hard to conceal an upright black colored furry Nekojin in a field of bright white snow anyways.
He came to a stop about ten yards away from her and stared again, taking special interest in the Unicorn's crystal horn.
Did you ever think it might be kind of rude to stare?
He quickly had to come up with something to say. Just before it left his mouth, his brain knew it was a bad idea.
"Hello Miss Horse!"
BEEP BUZZER! GRRRRT! WRRRRRROOOONNNNNNNG!
His paws flew up and covered his mouth for a moment, eyes widened in shock. He moved them slightly to speak again.
"Wait! Wait! You diddun hear that! Thass not what I said! I diddun say horse! I'm sorry, I'm sorry!"
He couldn't be exactly sure if this was a Unicorn or something else, but regardless, he HAD called a creature which was not a horse a horse before. What he got out of that situation was a broken jaw, a few weeks in intensive care, and reconstructive surgery on his teeth. That budding relationship had the proverbial weedkiller dumped all over it.
He shivered and seemed quite stiff at this point. But it wasn't the cold. He was wondering if he'd be back in intensive care again and if this particular friendship had ended before it began.

OOC: I'm sorry about that. I edited the profile. Now Simi can make others hallucinate and see their own fears as a pheonix, but her talons and beak can't get through armor and spells. I also added her top speed in both forms.
No, ZeroDrawn, I don't mind at all! ^^ I'm actually very glad to have company, and I like Zero! He seems funny, lol!
IC:
Simi continued to stare at the forest, wondering what made it so intriguing to her.
Perhaps............ it wouldn't hurt to take a little peak. Simi stepped forward with one delicate hoof.
When another scent came to her nose....
Blinking in alarm, Simi turned her head around, planning to lower her head warningly at whoever was trying to sneak up on her, but when she saw who was standing there, she paused.
The creature in front of Simi was a strange one at that. He wore strange fabrics on him, like a human, but the similarities ended there. This animal resembled more of a black cat. He was also quite short, and his eyes had a playful look to them that Simi found likable. She then blinked at herself in surprise. She usually wasn't so calm with new faces. The other seemed quite surprised to see her as well. Were unicorns rare in these parts?...
"Hello Miss Horse," the cat creature said a little cheerfully. However, just as Simi was about to blink stupidly in shock- did she really look like a horse?!- the other covered his mouth with his paws, his eyes looking wide with regret. He then moved them slightly.
"Wait! Wait! You diddun hear that! Thass not what I said! I diddun say horse! I'm sorry, I'm sorry!"
Simi tried to be polite, but she couldn't. She couldn't help but to laugh with humor. Are all creatures in this forest like him?
"Very well, then, I didn't hear that." Simi tossed her mane with a smile that she couldn't help.

That was a fine candidate for stupidest way to make a first impression, genius.
Even in his state of struck horror, he could not help but draw focus to the creature's horn again, and now he noticed, her eyes as well. They were...what was it about them? His mouth hung open for a bit, before he shook his head and recomposed himself again.
"Very well, then, I didn't hear that."
Her response deeply relieved him, and he blew out a puff of air as his shoulders slumped into a more relaxed position.
Okay, okay. Do it right this time.
He took in a deep breath, folded his arms behind his back, and spoke.
"Ahem! Hello Miss...Miss...Miss Pretty!"
Instead of stumbling on your words like a blabbering fool, why not ask her name?
Zero cringed. He hated the fact that his brain was so good at working situations out but his mouth seemed unable to follow it sometimes.
"Could ya...could ya tell me yer name? So I dun go callin ya stuff I shouldn't be callin ya...izzrude!"
He hoped he didn't come across as a raving lunatic or an idiot. He kept his paws folded behind his back and shifted his weight from foot to foot, smiling sheepishly with a soft blush.

The creature breathed out in relief. Apparently, he had expected much worse from her. He then folded his arms behind his back, saying this time, "Ahem! Hello Miss... Miss... Miss Pretty!"
At this Simi lowered her head a little, feeling a little flattered, though somewhat embarrased as well. She didn't really know how to respond to the greeting. Should she say thank you, or would it look stupid since he didn't actually say, "You're Pretty", but rather called her "Miss Pretty"? As much as she hated awkard silences, Simi decided to take her chances and wait for the other to say something again, which he eventually did.
"Could ya...could ya tell me yer name? So I dun go callin ya stuff I shouldn't be callin ya...izzrude!" He folded his paws behind his back and smiled sheepishly, faintly blushing. Simi found herself returning the smile. She really liked this newcomer. He was funny and kind, and she wanted to get to know him better. She'd also like to know what exactly he was, so she could stop calling him just "creature".
"My name's Simi. And what is yours?" She asked back in a light-hearted tone.

She'd also like to know what exactly he was, so she could stop calling him just "creature".
"My name's Simi. And what is yours?" She asked back in a light-hearted tone.
When Simi smiled for the second time, Zero's eyes lit up with glee and his foot-to-foot shifting increased in pace. The smile only made her prettier than before, and she continued to be what presently enthralled him.
See? Things turn out better when you think before you speak!
"My name's Simi. And what is yours?"
He delayed an answer to her question, instead feeling it was necessary to match her pronunciation first and not forget it.
"Seeee...meeee. See. Mee. Seemee! Simi! Gotchya! I won't call you nuffin else now. Unless yeh want me to!"
Kay, now answer her question, dingleberry!
"Oh yeah! Er, yeah! My name's Zero! Zero Darius Drawn! Scientific prodigy, at your service! I make things do things!"
He paused for a moment, wondering if that had been necessary.
"Err, well, so it's Zero! Ya can call me whatever ya want though. Cept Melonhead. Or Wiggles. Ya can't call me those. Well...you CAN, but please dun!"
It was obvious she made him a little nervous, though it was only because of how impressed by her striking form that he was unable to fully contain himself. He kept his paws folded behind his back, as his tail swished to and fro behind him.
"Izz nice to meetchya! I came out here tryin to meet some bugs, but this is betta!"

Simi giggled at the way he did that, her ears pricked forward and her tail waving slowly. However, it didn't seem like he had caught her question, and she decided that she should repeat it.
"So-"

Ya can call me whatever ya want though. Cept Melonhead. Or Wiggles. Ya can't call me those. Well...you CAN, but please dun!"
Simi laughed again, surprised. "Melonhead?!" Though she was glad to finally know what to call him. Zero? Interesting name...
"Izz nice to meetchya! I came out here tryin to meet some bugs, but this is betta!" His tail swished back and forth behind him like a dark, fluffy pendulum.
The sky-blue unicorn blinked. Bugs...? "Well, it's very nice to meet you, Zero! And you don't have to worry about me calling you anything else." She paused then, and raised her head to glance up at the forest again..... Why am I so drawn to it...?
"Tell me, is this your home?" She asked curiously. Though the question was probably stupid, there was a chance that he was a wanderer, or, less likely, also new here.

"Melonhead?!"
Zero's ears flattened against his head as he raised a fist and shook it.
"Ohhhh I hate tha' name! It ain't funny! Mah stupid brother calls me it! I'dda punched him in the nose if he weren't...taller...and stronger 'an me! Big fat jerk he is!"
He mimed kicking something in the shin and sticking his tongue out at it, before he returned to composure, paws folded behind back and smiling again.
"But ferget him, he ain't here anyways!"
"Well, it's very nice to meet you, Zero! And you don't have to worry about me calling you anything else."
A great explosion of happiness suddenly occured. Zero's face was awash in a big goofy grin while he hopped up and down a few times, giving Simi a thumbs-up.
"Awesome! And you won't haveta worry 'bout me callin ya a hor---"
HELLO? HELLO? ARE YOU STUPID OR SOMETHING? DON'T BRING THAT UP AGAIN!
"Hoooorrrrticulturalist! Yah! 'less you work with plants, then it'd be more appropriate!"
He followed her gaze to the forest tree line, eyes glazed over and gaze dreamy for a time, but he was quickly snapped out of it when she spoke again.
"Tell me, is this your home?"
Zero shook his head, and pointed off into the distance, opposite the trees.
"Nyuh-uh. I dun live here, not yet anyways. I live pretty far away actually. Mah home...iss in a countryside. Perched atop a wide and tall hill, surrounded by more hills 'n meadows. Lotsa flowers all over the place, Khaze keeps 'em growin!. Izza pretty spot, and it's secluded too, perfect fer buildin mah lab. They normally dun allow that kinda crap underground without a permit, but I ain't got no time fer permits! I got stuff to do, man!"
He shrugged, grinned again, and quickly followed up with his own question.
"Whattabout you? D'ya live here? Yer probably the one who helps make the forest so beautiful, arent'chya?"
Zero's ears flattened against his head as he raised a fist and shook it.

Simi waited for Zero's answer, expecting to hear a yes and to feel regret for asking in the first place, but instead the black furred cat shook his head and pointed away from the forest, replying, "Nyuh-uh. I dun live here, not yet anyways. I live pretty far away actually. Mah home...iss in a countryside. Perched atop a wide and tall hill, surrounded by more hills 'n meadows. The unicorn blinked a little as her mane blew across her face. Some of Zero's words intrigued Simi. She knew what meadows and flowers were, of course, but the other things he spoke of... Lab? Permits?... What are these?
Zero then shrugged and grinned.
"Whattabout you? D'ya live here? Yer probably the one who helps make the forest so beautiful, arent'chya?"
This question caught Simi by surprise. “Well...” she started meekly... slowly, memories of past times and a past life came to her. Once, she did have a forest to call her own, one to care for and to gently nudge young flowers into awakening.
Once.
What upset her the most was that she’d never again walk the secret paths of the woods that she had left behind. It was long behind her, and going back meant almost certain death for her, now.
Perhaps, if things turned out well here, however... she’d be able to do this again. Perhaps someday she could find it in her heart to walk the paths of this new forest, and to awaken its flowers to greet the morning. Well, when spring came, of course.
Simi was about to let herself get lost in a world of daydreaming when she remembered that someone had asked her a question, and was still waiting for an answer. She turned back to Zero, feeling embarrased.
“I’m sorry.... Um, no. I actually just arrived here. But I am familiar with bringing out the beauty in forests. It’s natural for me.” She gave a small smile, her ears laid back.

Zero tilted his head to the side as Simi seemed off a distance place for a short time.
I wonder what she's thinkin about?
He almost felt as if there was something...off. Perhaps a slight change in the air, or mood. But he didn't bother to pursue it; he felt it was probably just him being weird.
“I’m sorry.... Um, no. I actually just arrived here. But I am familiar with bringing out the beauty in forests. It’s natural for me.”
Zero's eyes widened a bit, and he smiled big.
"So yeh really are a horticulturist after all! Or ah'least thass part of yer resume. Thass really cool!"
He turned his head and scanned the horizon. All around him was a snowy, barren wasteland, sans the treeline of deep forest. He wondered if Simi had the ability to add any beauty to this otherwise desolate landscape.
"I dun suppose...you could show me anythin? Makin things pretty 'n all. I mean, yeh dun haveta do nuffin if yeh dun wanta! But these lands..."
He was silenced for a time as he came to dwell on the thought a little more.
Yeah. The trees...Deep Forest, it looks beautiful. But this place...it's cold. Empty. Barren. I've been traveling through it for days...why such a stark contrast all the sudden? It's strange...
He really hadn't thought about it at all during his travels. The only things on his mind then had been food and Deep Forest. But was it not kind of odd that the dead lands ended abruptly to a lush, live green woods? Had something happened here to have caused it?
Realization that he had completely stopped talking with no discernable reason caused him to clear his throat and resume.
"Errr, yeah. But, yaknow...if yer up to it, I'd love 'ta see what'chya can do!"
Arm outstretched and a thumb straight up, he grinned wide at her and awaited a response. A response, he hoped, that would end with an impressive show.

Simi gave a little side step of recognition. Ahhh, so that's what it is...
Zero then turned his head, gazing at the snowy landscape that surrounded them on nearly all sides. For a few moments he grew thoughtful, and Simi followed his gaze only to find nothing particularly important.
"I dun suppose...you could show me anythin? Makin things pretty 'n all. I mean, yeh dun haveta do nuffin if yeh dun wanta! But these lands..."
Simi blinked her eyes in surprise, but she strangely felt pleased as well. It had been a while since she had tended to anything natural at all, and she found that she quite missed it... more than she knew.
"Well, I can then, if you really- Um..."
Again, Zero was lost in his own thoughts.
Simi swished her tail slowly, searching Zero's face for any sort of answer, but all she could find was a strange, wondering look in his eyes that confused her... Again, she looked out into the forest, wondering about its beauty, and the way that it called to her.
She was jumped out of her thoughts when Zero cleared his throat.
"Errr, yeah. But, yaknow...if yer up to it, I'd love 'ta see what'chya can do!" He then gave a thubs up to her, a charming grin on his face.
Oh, right! The unicorn shifted her hooves slightly and she looked down at the ground, but as she did so another thought came to her mind...Though I wonder if there is any life to wake in these lands....
Simi blew out from her muzzle, pushing away the doubt. Doubt never did her any good, so why listen to it? The young mare then bowed her head down, pushing her horn through the snow until it touched just inside the cold soil. She shut her eyes calmly, waiting to feel the soft calling of the life underneath......
But there was none.
Simi's eyelids twitched from this, but she waited a little longer, just in case. But again, nothing answered to the touch of her horn.
Sighing in dissappointment, the blue unicorn pulled her head back up, shaking the snow from her mane. "I don't understand, Zero. There is nothing here that will answer to me." She clenched her jaws a little, feeling quite shocked at this....

Zero tensed up with restrained excitement as as Simi's gaze shifted towards the ground. This is it, he thought, she's gonna do somethin really neat! She seemed to hesitate for a moment, and then blew out from her muzzle. This made Zero giggle, but he clamped a paw over his mouth and shook his head, hoping she would ignore him. Now's not the time for silliness. He inhaled sharply and clenched his fists as her horn went through the snow, and watched with keen eyesight for the slightest change.
But it hadn't happened, and before he knew it, Simi had sighed downtroddenly and pulled her head back up.
"I don't understand, Zero. There is nothing here that will answer to me."
He slumped down, closed his eyes, and shook his head in disappointment. But it was not simply because he did not get to see 'somethin really neat'. He had hoped that some beauty and grace could have been brought to this place of unlife. The more he thought about it, the more uncomfortable he became.
"I dunno why tha happens either..."
He inhaled deeply, and spoke again, in a more serious tone.
"You know, cept for folks going in and out of Deep Forest, I can't remember having encountered anything living here. The wastelands, I mean. Even bugs, I can't find any bugs. I diddu...I didn't think about it too much, until now. Am I just not seeing them? Or do things not live here at all? Is it just cause of winter...? Does this place get better in warmer months?"
He had a feeling they did not, sans the snow anyways. An unceremonial rumble issued from his stomach, and he set his paws lightly upon it.
"Sorry, I'mma lil hungry."
He smiled softly, though he seemed a little saddened. It had nothing to do with the food.
I hate depressing thoughts...

Zero slumped and shook his head a little sadly, and Simi found herself wincing on the inside. She didn't like seeing sadness in anyone.
"I dunno why tha happens either..."
The blue unicorn sighed in agreement, her face turned to the side. However, when she heard Zero’s voice again, her ears pricked in his direction.
"You know, cept for folks going in and out of Deep Forest, I can't remember having encountered anything living here. The wastelands, I mean..."
The wastelands! Simi tried to hold back her gasp. Was this the name of the barren land around them? Was this why she could sense no life under its cold, icy layer?

At this Simi blew out in frustration. “Were these wastelands to have any life in them, I could have brought something from it that you could have eaten.” On that note, Simi grew a bit concerned, turning to Zero again. “Are you well?” She needed to know.... And anyways, if he was, she had another trick that the cat may find interesting. It may even cheer him up a little.

The thoughtfulness of this statement made Zero blush a little again as he lightly scratched behind his ear. As she looked upon him with concern and questioned his wellness, he nodded and stuck his tongue out playfully.
“O'course I'm well! Lil lack of food can't get me down! I'm tougher than I look, yaknow! And 'sides, mah stomachs the only one complainin, but it's just bein a big ol' baby! I'm fine!"
He twirled about flamboyantly and struck a pose, flexing his arms and winking before he quickly lost it to a fit of giggles. No matter what, he wouldn't let anything take away his spirit. If these lands were devoid of life, well, he'd bring life to it, if only just in his own way.
"Ya ain't gots'ta worry bout me. Worse comes to worse, I'll...eat mah shirt 'er somethin!"
Simi looked like she had something in mind, to which Zero's whiskers started twitching, ears perked up, and he turned his nose up, peering suspiciously at her from the corner of an eye with a slight grin upon his face. It was clear he didn't expect anything foul; rather, he was remaining playful.

As if to prove that statement, Zero twirled around and struck a pose, winking playfully. He suddenly began to giggle uncontrollably, and as much as Simi wanted to stay on the serious side of things, she quickly found herself laughing along, harder than she had in a while. Though she could still feel her dark worries in the back of her head, they were fading fast, and it was then that Simi knew that with someone like Zero around, any situation could seem like just like a little obstacle that could be jumped over with ease. Suddenly, instead of the empty space, it was the little sparkles in the snow that Simi began to notice, the light golden tints that came from the sun above.
"Ya ain't gots'ta worry bout me. Worse comes to worse, I'll...eat mah shirt 'er somethin!"
The unicorn gave a side smile, but her eyes then trailed over to the spot where she pushed her horn through, its presence reminding her of what she had been planning to do.
"Right..." Simi tossed her mane as she caught her breath. "Well, I can't bring out the flowers, but there is something else that I can do that might intrigue you. Do you happen to like birds?"
It delighted Zero to see Simi laughing, a personal victory if he could get even a snicker out of someone at any given time. It was his sworn duty as a goofball, and fufilling it made everything worth it, day by day. He came to full attention, however, when Simi tossed her mane and asked him a question.
Do you happen to like birds?"
Zero rubbed his chin with a paw and stared up into the sky.
"Birds? Sure, I like em! I ain't had much chance to get 'ta know em though. They're always flyin over me! Dun help much bein short and wingless."
He blinked a few times.
"Why d'ya ask? You gots a birdfriend hidin 'round here 'er somethin?"
He wondered if Simi was asking due to him being a cattype. Felines were known to make birds their delicacy when they got the opportunity.
"I wouldn't eat 'em or hurt 'em if that's whatchyer wonderin!"
Why not shut up for a moment and just wait to see what she has to say?
He chuckled, feeling a little embarrased, and nodded again to confirm the first question.
"But, yeah, I likes em!"

Why not shut up for a moment and just wait to see what she has to say?
He chuckled, feeling a little embarrased, and nodded again to confirm the first question.
"But, yeah, I likes em!"

"Birds? Sure, I like em! I ain't had much chance to get 'ta know em though. They're always flyin over me! Dun help much bein short and wingless."
Simi smiled at the comment. There seems to be laughter in everything for him..
"Why d'ya ask? You gots a birdfriend hidin 'round here 'er somethin.....? I wouldn't eat 'em or hurt 'em if that's whatchyer wonderin!" Zero gave out a chuckle. "But, yeah, I likes em!"
"Well then, that's great," Simi replied cheerfully. "You'd have to for me to do this...." Taking a breath, the blue unicorn took a few delicate steps back, the prints of her hooves light and her dark violet eyes gleeming with excitement. For a moment she was a little concerned about if she had enough strength for it, but when she remembered the cold temperature around her she brushed the thought away. It was cold enough- morphing wouldn't kill her.
Simi began to kneel down slowly, and her flowing turquoise mane glided over her eyes and the base of her horn with the motion. With her knees touching the soft, crystal snow, she sighed and lowered her head, tucking it inbetween her front legs in such an angle where the horn didn't get stuck in the ground. Finally, she shut her eyes from the world... and waited.
A deep chill ran through Simi. Suddenly, she could feel her skin changing, her front legs growing soft feathers and spreading out from underneath her like huge leaves. Within moments, everything felt different, had a different feel to it. The snow felt strange, the sunlight on her back was new and unfamiliar, but she'd get used to it.
However, her sight was still dark. Slowly, Simi opened her eyes to greet the snowy land before her, and flexed her wings gently. This caused a bit of annoying pain- she probably shouldn't have morphed so soon. She then pushed herself up, standing upright on her talons and folding her wings against her. The icy blue pheonix looked up at Zero in a way that assured that it was still her.
"What do you think?"
