The Striped One's Return
Name:
Lepidus-Malus, of the Pax Herd. She is also known as Lep.
Species:
Unicorn, from a breed that dates back to the medieval age
Gender:
Female
Alliance:
She is considered evil, although in truth she walks close to the neutral line. At this time, the evil part of her soul is most powerful. Only time will tell if it remains that way.
Age:
She is an adult, the equivalent of a 27 or 28 year old in human standards. Still young by some, but old enough to not enjoy being called a “child”.
Mature Adult at Age:
Not sure. XP Never actually figured out the age equivalency with her. >_<
Appearance:
Her white hide is marked by zebra like black stripes that race along her body, covering the many battle wounds that she has acquired. The largest scar is that along the side of her hindquarters as a faint line behind the short fur. Her body is built like that of a giant draft horse with a physique covered in muscles designed for survival. Despite this girth, her steps are seemingly light and airy as though levitating instead of walking. Her long horn glitters of pure silver without a blemish. Likewise her hooves are silver and do not carry any sign of the wars they have fought and killed in. Surprisingly enough, though, the mare’s most notable feature is her large eyes. One eye shines like a ruby while the other shimmers like a sapphire.
Personality:
Lepidus is cautious and weary of others by nature, despite the fact that she finds it a hobby to see the newcomers to the Deep Forest. Within moments the mare is ready for battle, even to the death if needed. While Lep may be indecisive as of late, she makes up her mind quickly about individuals and events. In this matter she tends to be rather stubborn. Those who get past this rough exterior find an unchallenged ally and friend. She is deeply loyal to those who hold her heart with will defend them unto death. Likewise she holds tightly to grudges. On rare occasions, it is possible to see the friendly side of the split mare, seeing her run and play like a young filly before troubles tainted her life. Young children of any sentient species and flattery instantly hold her heart. She also has a slight curious nature.
Abilities:
Along with Lep’s battle experience, she is also becoming skilled in the art of transformation. As of now, she has three other forms besides her birth form. The first is that of a large timber wolf, zebra pelted like her normal form. The second is that of a grey fruit bat, with a white streak down her back. The final form is a mixture of the others which she has named a beltora. This form is slightly smaller than her unicorn form although it is still larger than most humanoids. The beltora’s body structure is similar to that of a unicorn including the horn and hooves although she has three toes instead of one per foot. Her head is that of the wolf’s, except with a short mane, as is her long tail. Large webbed wings sprout from her shoulder blades. Her pelt is grey with back stripes and a white streak along her back. Lepidus-Malus also has a small amount of ability in shadow manipulation, although it is highly untrained. Simply put, the shadows help camouflage her body more.
Disadvantages:
Lep is very strong physically, but she lacks mental strength. Over the years, it has been proven that the mare is easily manipulated by both the forces of good and evil, even to the extent of almost murdering her best friend’s niece. Young children easily take over her heart, though, and she is willing to fight to the death to protect one. Flattery is the best route to go, however, if one wishes to best this beast. A few sweet words is all that is needed to have the unicorn wrapped around your finger (or hoof or whatever).
Her shifting ability is limited to only her 3 forms currently. While strong, each form has it's flaws. The wolf form is easily recognizable as still being Lep, so she can not use it as a disguise from others (although she can still hunt in it perfectly fine). Her fruit bat form is small, and is therefore an easy target for flight predators. Her beltora form takes the most energy to shift into and it gives her a stronger drive to fight than she would otherwise have.
As for the shadow manipulation, the skill is rather underdeveloped. It was an inherited ability from her father. With her herd, inherited abilities are never as strong as their main ability and Lep is no exception. It is limited to camouflaging only. Because her pelt gives her a natural camouflage she chooses not to use the ability in most cases.
Family:
Her family is that of the Pax Herd. Her mother is a white mare with red eyes named Sperare, or hope in the Old Language. Her father is a pitch black stallion with clear blue eyes named Crepusculum, or twilight in the Old Language. Crepusculum is the leader of the Pax Herd. Her bother carries the fitting name of Obitus which means death in the Old Language. He was a grey coat with purple eyes that died when Lep was still young.
History:
Lepidus-Malus was the second born to the lead stallion and mare of the Pax herd. She was one of 3 foals in the herd at the time. There was her older brother and his best friend, Librius. Although the youngest, Lep was the first to show any sign of her magical abilities by taking the form of a wolf pup. After that day she was regularly guided and aided by the herd’s seer, Cor Videre. While training, a strange black wolf-like beast attacked the stallion.
Not long after that, another attack was made. The wolfish beast attacked and killed the young Obitus when he and his sister were out in the woods at night. Distraught by the loss of her dear brother and her own helplessness, the young mare took the form of a bat, with a coloration similar to that of her brother’s, and left the herd.
Soon, she found herself at the edge of the Deep Forest. She found a den in the Boundary Mountains. By this point Lep was found to be a darker creature than in her childhood although speaks of good still showed through. She befriended another mare by the name of Gaeva.
Trouble followed her into the Deep Forest unfortunately. The striped unicorn has faced many wars and battles in the confines of the magic woods, even an older, alternate reality of herself. She has also visited her old herd on occasion. A unigon also began to steal her heart, although he left suddenly. The last war and the disappearance of the one she had hoped to love grew too much for the mare to handle and without a word, she roamed out into the wastelands.
Now her silvery hooves have brought the mare to her home once again. What battles of the body and heart await for her is a mystery for all.
Anything Else We Need to Know?:
That’s right, one and all; NightWolf714 is back in action with Lep in tow! Others will follow soon, although I plan on starting back slowly. But a year or 2 (or however long it’s been) is much too long of a vacation. That and the newbies to UV need to meet the one and only Lep. And don’t worry, me and Norvilion have a few surprises that we hope will make the wait worth it. Glad to be back everyone! *giant huggle*
IC (In Character) Entrance:
The once brown earth was now a pure white blanket. The wind was unusually still and a hint of a sun could be seen from behind the mass of clouds that crowded the sky. The horizon was blurred between the ivory snow and the gray sky. A dreary winter day clung, although it carried the hint of a storm coming through. In the far off distance, streams of black seemed to dance as tiny specks of dirt.
The day rolled on and soon evening had arrived. The black specks had by this point revealed themselves as streams of black ribbon, fluttering with each movement of a muscular body. Light glittered from the hidden sun off silver more pure than ever found by human kind before. And gems of ruby and sapphire sparkled with a light of it's own as the beast drew nearer to the Deep Forest.
Night soon came. Winds began to blow softly and flakes of white crystals began to fall from the heavens. Like angelic feathers, floating slowly to blanket the earth. But they did not come to the forest alone. The mysterious figure traveled onwards throughout the day to welcome snowfall. Or perhaps, the snowfall came to welcome the figure home.
Silver hooves stopped at the edge of the now stark trees. The trees still reached higher than she could see, with black fingers stretched forth to gather the falling snow. A shiver ran down the striped one's spine. This place held many memories, some of which still pained her heart. So familiar were the wastelands, the forest, and the looming mountains beyond. Even though it was now winter, it still seemed to be the same. It still seemed so . . . timeless.
With a snort that resulted in a small cloud of ice, the mare shook her head and stepped into the forest.

((Oh, it did? Well that post is void then. I'll delete it in a bit. No she hasn't met her like that, but because of the time you just said she wouldn't so, on to plan B. Let's try another character. How about Lep's favorite kitty cat. She was going to show up later, but I guess now is the time.))
Black nose sniffed at the air and large eyes dilated in the cold darkness. This was not a normal time for the large beast to be roaming. She hated the snow and the cold it brought with it. It wasn't like the cold night from it her home, the snow made it much colder. A biting cold like ice shards in the hide. She would know, she'd had that spell casted on her before.
Anyway back to the scent that drifted on the air. The scent kept the queen's nose from closing against the sharp cold lifted with ice crystals. She knew this creature. Yes it was familiar. Snowshoe like paws moved the large feline into a trot as she followed the smell. Mind was still trying to figure out who it was till she came within sight of the new-comer or rather returnee. Purple eyes widened as it all came together in her mind. A minute of searching before she took a step forward, not like she was hiding or could. "Koar Lepidus," came the banth's rough voice. Was it strange that she used the unicorn's name instead of the one she had given her?

Once more the mare found her steps stopping. Something was appearing before her. The air drifted away from her, towards the mysterious figure. The slightest of quivers went over her hindquarters. Her ears flicked forward as she tried to identify the arrival and it's intents. If it was a challenge, and Lep was sure it would more likely be so, then she would be ready for it within seconds. Especially since it sounded like a group with so many footsteps.
That was, until the beast came more into view. It was the familiar 10-legged lioness. Her body stiffed slightly. Yet it was not for a challenge. Her body prepared for battle in the same fashion as when close friends would tease and fight. The mare and Tara never really fought, but there was always an unspoken challenge from either side that was as close to friendship as the two were ever likely to get.
"Greetings, Tara," the mare responded, lowering her head but never her eyes. Upon lifting her crown she scanned over the alien cat. The discomfort that the snow gave was concealed well. Or it could be that Lep tended to see her upset about something or another. "Has your hunts proved fair?" she asked, speaking on one of the rare topics that they both shared.

The alien queen merely stood tall not letting her height be wasted. A half foot short of nine. There was no dip of her muzzle in return, her greeting was given to the equine already. The beast's bristled mane was fluffed if you will about her neck. Her paddle tail swaying slowly behind her. "The hunt is well," she replied. The banth looked quite healthy compared to how she did several months back. Healed were the wounds that had be inflicted then and those from the hunt were still healing. Two front legs on the right side had antler wounds still partly scabbed.
"Not all are build to run in snow," it just happened she doubled for snow. Lucky for someone who had never seen it before coming to this world. "How has yar hunt been? I have not seen ya about Deep Forest in such a long time. Of course my time as of late has been on the pride lands." She breathed before closing her nostrils against the crystal filled air. "I would ask ya to share of greener pastures, but ya are 'ere..."

The hunt has been going well indeed. The lioness was looking healthier than last time she had seen her. The wounds from battles were healing and the scars seemed to suit the banth well. She looked more impressive than when she had first crossed paths with the strange feline. Luckily, Lep was not on the menu . . . as far as she knew anyways. That, and her hide was already promised to the creature so surely Tara would wait for the easy meal.
She lifted a hoof, seeing the snow cling to it at Tara's words. Silent agreement, although she thought that Tara was better suited than she herself was for the winter terrain. Then again, this wasn't Lep's first snowfall and would not be her last.
Then Tara asked about how her own hunt had been. A snort was her reply at first. Her hunt had been . . . less than she had expected. Not something that she was about to lay down for the banth at any rate. "My hunt has been fair enough, although the prey of this strange forest has drawn me back," True enough, in a metaphorical sense.
"I'm sure the other felines have been keeping you busy in the pride lands," she said in hopes of changing the subject. That, and the mare was curious as to how the land has been in the time she has been gone. Months had passed since the last time her hooves have felt the Deep Forest's earth and she knew it couldn't have kept quiet in all that time.

Little yellow ears perked forward a bit in the beast's mane. Tara was not one to judge the words for a deeper meaning. They were as they came. There was a 'hmpt' from the banth at the question directed to her about the pride. "Ya have ta see 'em to have business with 'em," she told, "Patrollin' mostly. Just cause it's white on the ground doesn't mean everythin' stops. Critters think they can get away with it." She shook her head with another huff.
"That's all part of it though. sire and dam did it, now it's my turn," continued Tara, "Gives me somethin' ta do at least in this cold time. Keep the blood movin' ya know?" Her tail swayed as she backed a paw up and lowered on her back legs to sit. "So, what ya goin' ta do since ya are 'ere?"
((this is bad, we need someone to stir things up. They are too much unspoken understand or lack of for a conversation, lol))

OOC: I might be able to get Nor or Legion to come in and stir things up.
IC:
A smirk appeared on the mare's face at the question of what she planned to do. "I've left a nice den for a while now. I plan on going back and reclaiming it from whatever may have moved in." The way Lep spoke made it obvious that she hoped something had moved in. A sort of welcome feast that nature prepared for it's little freak.
By this point, Lep too had relaxed her body. The night wind blew by them, ruffling her mane and tail. Her mind wandered for a moment on what newcomers have arrived to the Deep Forest since the last time she had been here. The area was known for carrying much stranger creatures than the one that sat before her. Her curiosity itched to see what new beings have taken up their domain near her den.
"After reclaiming my den, I'm not sure what I'll do. I might cause some excitement for that pride of yours" she added with a grin.

((Actually that might have just done it Night. You pissed her off))
Tara nodded till she came to the part about the pride. Joke or not the banth would have none of it. She was up on all ten paws growling at the striped horse. "I will have none of that!" she spat, "I do not come to yar den and stir up trouble ya will leave mine alone." Her body was tense, lowered a bit as if ready to spring or chase. "Ya are welcome to visit but any sign of trouble will be yar undoin'. I do not tolerate trouble makers on the pride lands of any kind. Respected or protected alike."
Those many rows of teeth were bared, saliva dipping between them like a falling spider web. "All are equal until territory is stepped on. Do not test me on my lands as I will not on yar's." Her paddle tail swayed much fast, the edge picking up a bit of snow on a pass and tossing it into the air. Claws kneaded into the ground, but as the banth said here they were equal. It would be foolish, far more for herself to attack here and now over nothing. This was to show she respected the home and if it was not shared she would keep her words.

While her comment was made in jest, it was obviously not taken as such. The prey part of her mind was quickly becoming spooked at the sight of the agitated beast. Luckily the warrior part of the mare kept her calm . . . for the most part. There was no perfect serenity when a giant, 10 legged feline with more teeth than even a shark would have is annoyed with you. Memories of being the banth's prey surfaced. Those were not very pleasant times. Instinctively, the unicorn's body tensed once more. Large ears folded back.
Lep was able to keep her voice calm, though, when she spoke again. "Understood," was all she dared to say. It didn't matter how much of a fighter the mare was, there was something down right frightening about Tara. It was fortunate that Tara did trust her and thought of the unicorn as an equal or else she could very well be in a fight right now.
As she may still be in. Lep had forgotten about Tara's brutal temperament. It was good that Tara was having this much patience with her. However, Lep was better at ticking off others than for calming them down. She would have to tread lightly for the next few minutes. "I'm sure that you would be able to protect your lands well," the mare commented in hopes of cooling the feline some.

The equine's reaction was that of prey. Her body tensed for flight and ears rotated back. The primal side of the banth's brain, so most of it, noticed. Eyes dilated against recognition. A step uncontrolled by her. A sudden shake of her head came from the massive beast as she growled. She snapped at the air fighting herself from pouncing or moving again. Like pulling the reigns on a stubborn horse the banth's head snarling and growling was in the air as she forced herself a step back. Then she took another...
Tail flew wildly from side to side as the banth forced her hind end back on the ground. A flutter of snow showered around her as she landed. The deep growling continued for several more drawn seconds. Finally a lick of tongue from one side of the head all the way around to the other. Nose and muzzle twitched stuck partly in the snarl stasis. "Will," the word was put out between a breath. Was it a correction to what Lepidus said?
A breath, deep, "No harm in prayin' ta Issus for it," she finally came with a complete thought, "Depends on the trouble makers that come through. Varies..." A huff, her muzzle was still twitching and she was not looking directly at the unicorn.

The snarling and growling did not make things any easier for the mare. Another uncontrollable shiver went through her spine. Sure, she knew that it was unlikely for the banth to attack. Unfortunately there was still a good chance of it. And if Tara was going to attack then Lep was going to be ready for it. The hair on her hide was growing slightly ticker and unseen by her closed mouth the teeth were beginning to sharpen into canines for ripping.
Movement from the feline. The unicorn's eyes flashed. But it was a movement backwards. Lep snorted softly, trying to hide the fact that for a moment she had been holding her breath. "What's wrong with me?" she questioned herself. Fear like this was normally not the first reaction to a challenge. She shook her head, sending snowflakes flying.
Lep listened to the feline once she spoke. The fur on her back was short like normal again. "Very true," she replied. By the time Lep answered her teeth was back to normal again as well. "Some visitors require more . . . attention than others." Her mind went to the memory of fights she had been in at the edge of the forest. "Although I'm sure that few would try and cause trouble in your domain, Tara." "Unless they like to be tortured and killed," she added sliently.

A snort from the yellow queen, "Agreed," she replied, "Few, yeah one now and then ta make thin's interestin' but no more then that. I'm not sure the forest can stand many rampages." There was a smug hint to her split face on that one. A lighting of the mood perhaps. "Sides the forest has ta listen ta me arguing with Mwezi half the time. It doesn't need more craziness then that often."
Her tail swished at her side as the banth remained sitting. This was safe for now. "Now, Lepidus I hope yar health is good," there was a smile, "I wouldn't want ya ta catch a cold or anythin'. Which as a thought, if anythin' moved in ta yar den while ya were away and it gives ya any trouble, just the off chance Lepidus, find me. We could have a bit of fun tagether."

OOC: *thumbs up sign* Yays. And yes, I do plan on bringing back Cortina something. But I'm gonna take it slow right now. That, and me and Jay (aka Norv) are trying to figure out what adventures she and Lonely had since they left together.

She smiled, feeling the shift in mood. Seems that things were calm once again. "Do not worry about my health, fellow hunter. I am well and I plan on staying that way for a long time." Perhaps not the smartest move, but the mare couldn't help teasing the banth some. Lep wondered for a moment whether or not Tara remembered the agreement that they had made so long ago.
Long striped tail swished when she offered her services. "I will be fine. Besides, I'd rather keep all the fun for myself. That, and you are busy enough these days. Between Mewzi and the wolf pack, I'm sure that you have enough fun already."

(( (was cleared beforehand) Muahaha, time to stir up a little excitement
))
A few hundred yards away from the conversation of old “acquaintances” A small drake clung to the side of a tree, digging into its bark with his claws. He scrambled giddily along its side careful not to actually fall since, despite his appearance, he wasn’t just some overgrown lizard. Once he made it around one trunk he would jump off and spread his wings to fly to the next one, leaving behind only claw sized punctures in the bark and taking only his sword, his mask, and his seemingly unquenchable childish grin.
”These trees are seriously huge.” he whispered to himself as he jumped between trees, still a good distance away. ”I wonder if the ones further in are even bigger, I’ll be able to make the best treehouse ever!” Surprisingly enough he never broke inside voice, even in the last few words of excitement.
After another treehop the drake noticed a familiar figure in the distance from between the mammoth trees. He remembered her instantly, the nice stripety horsie lady that had greeted him last time he had visited the edge of these woods. She wasn’t alone though. Bremen’s head fins twitched in curiosity as he peaked around the tree trunk to get a good look at his old bestest good friend’s new friend. There were a few seconds of absolute silence before his voice echoed the area to a note of ”Kitty!”
Without an ounce of hesitation Bremen dashed up the side of the tree, and hopped onto a branch. The sounds of his gleeful chuckles filled the air around him as he dove to the ground right next to the horsie. ”Leppy Mally! Leppy Mally!” he chanted in greeting as soon as his back claws touched the ground. ”I knew you’d still be here. You remember me? I’m the happy human named Tom Bremen, but my name isn’t really Tom Bremen, I’m just Bremen and I was just kidding about being human, see?”
With his rapid words and his wide green eyes Bremen might have looked like an excited child had it not been for the little razor sharp teeth, the well-used claws, and the sheathed longsword situated between his wings on his back... Though his diminutive stature offset those factors significantly.

A crunch of snow came to her ears. An ear flicked towards it, curious as to what it could be. A deep inhale. The scent was slightly familiar but . . . she couldn't identify it's owner clearly. The crunching of snow echoed in the night. It distracted her conversation with Tara slightly, wondering who it was that was moving closer to them.
"Kitty!"
The cry awoke a few sleeping birds from their nests. Instinctively, the mare's head twisted toward the source of the sound. This was partly due to the surprise of the sudden cry. But it was mostly because someone just called Tara kitty. She glanced over at the banth to try and catch her reaction.
Then realization donned on the unicorn. Instantly, she was all the more alert. "Tom Bremen?" she whispered. The voice was slightly changed, but it was most definitely his. She had thought that he had left the Deep Forest months ago. But it would seem that the great warrior had returned to the forest.
But he had most definitely changed over the time he was gone. She remembered him being an almost pure human in appear. Now, though, Lep beheld the form of a rather smallish dragon. But he talked and acted the same. The warrior of unknown power, who tried and pretend that he was merely a fool. Although he did do a wonderful job at it. . . .
"Greetings, Tom Bremen," she barely managed to get out before the dragon started his quicken speech. Starting with Leppy Mally. The words made her cling. If she didn't wish to risk a quick and painful death from the sword master, she would kill him for that. As it was, she ignored the nick name and followed along with his rapid words. "Yes, I remember you."

There was a shrill call probably aimed at her as the large banth saw no other feline in the area. This little beast came bounding up rather smitten with the equine before her. She looked only at the striped one. She lifted a brow looked at Tom, licked her lips and lifted a paw barely to do a quick movement between her and the unicorn.
Tanslation;
You want to eat him with me?

”Yay! I was hoping you’d remember me. That way I wouldn’t have to introduce myself to you, which is a really good thing since…”
With a jerking motion he turned his attention toward the giant feline to his other side and thrust a claw into the air to wave emphatically. ”You is an awesome looking kitteh person! What they call you? I is be Bremen, a flamehide drake from waaaaaaay far aways. I’s not been for way far aways for long time though, cause I builded sandcastle out there in that huge land out there where not many peoples like to go ‘cause it have so little life. Not to little for mes say I, I jus go to town and learn with human kiddies at school every day.”
Bremen trotted a few paces closer to Tara, completely oblivious to the signals she was sending off to Lep. His wide grin and wide eyes showed no traces of fear whatsoever, though they did give him a bit of a dopey expression. ”How about you? You like learn stuff at school?”

Lep shook her mane as naturally as she could as a sign to Tara to not kill the dragonic being. At least, not yet. While she believed Tom was a powerful creature, she knew how deadly Tara was. If either of them posed a threat to her, the other could most likely relieve her of that burden. That could be very useful. But which of the two was stronger? That more important question had yet to be answered.
Lep grinned as he moved closer to Tara, babbling nonstop. It was entertaining to see someone pester the large banth in a confident manner. Surely only the most powerful or most stupid would treat a giant killing machine in such a manner. Which was Tom? The mare did not fully know. He acted like a fool, but surely no one could be that stupid. And he carried that blade across his back like an expert.
The unicorn's grin grew. Perhaps Tara will answer her questions for her. With Tom agitating her like he was, and given Tara's rather quick temper, it was only a matter of time before trouble brewed between the two. That would be fun to watch. "Well, Tara? Did you go to school when you were a itty bitty kitty?" Lep couldn't pass up the chance to tease the distracted feline.

Tara held a very unamused expression as the beast kept going a mild a minute. What the Iss was a school? Some kind of buffet? Then Lep jumped in. Purple eyes narrowed on the unicorn. Oh so she grew some once there was a audience to feed off of. Weak creature. The banth growled, the little bit of respect she had been showing the equine gone. On all ten she was as two massive paws threw snow in the direction of both creatures.
"Iss damn sorak!" she growled, "Such will be remembered striped thoat." She turned tightly on those legs, the paddle of her tail doing as her paws to throw more snow on the two as she moved to walk back into the white decorated trees.
((I'm holding you two up, Tara is out.))
