The Village (Information Only)

Post by Griatch »

Welcome to the Forest Village, the closest thing to civilization you are likely to find in Deep Forest! The village is located on the western shore of River's Deep and is hard to detect unless you know it's there. The majority of the houses are elven built (the village is also mostly populated by forest elves) and located high up in two adjacent giant trees (sometimes referred to as the South tree and North tree respectively). Both of these trees are of the huge Deep Forest kind and large enough to have branches wide as roads in many levels high above the ground. Below they create a veritable cathedral with a green roof only here and there letting sunlight through. The lush growth hides most of the village from sight, but the sound of life and activity can be noticed from the ground if you are attentive. Access to the village is by a series of elven staircases and magical elevators but there are also platforms for flying creatures to set down. Only a few buildings are located on the ground, at the crossroads between the two trees or by the waterfront; They are the non-elven shops and businesses also making their living here.

An elder council of elves rule the village. They do however also accept the overall authority of the unicorns for forest matters. You will also find shopkeepers and entrepreneurs housed here, eager to offer their services.

Anyone is welcome to visit the Village for whatever reason and to make a home for themselves here as well. There is no (longer) any need to ask to join to this community. If your character wishes to live here, then just RP them doing so!

Below you will find the Non-Player Characters (NPC:s ) that roam the village.

An NPC (Non Player Character) is a character that is not unique to to a certain player. Any player may use the NPC as 'flavour' or background to his/her post or as a temporary character to roleplay against when RP gets slow. Normal rules and common sense apply. You shouldn't kill off the NPC though.

Before using the NPC, read its bio and whatever restrictions apply to it so you can characterize it at the best of your ability.

Ruff -- the Draft horse

Name: Ruff
Gender:Male
Species: Draft Horse
Age: 7

Appearance:
A large, brown, bulky and sturdy work animal with enormous hooves and long pale-brown manes and tail. A slow but powerful work horse, built to move heavy cargoes rather than to run fast.
Ruff is a normal unmagical horse in all respects which means whereas he is a massive animal, he is smaller than e.g. Geaven or even Gaeva. He cannot talk, but is, as all horses, quite expressive nonetheless.

Ruff is stubborn and lazy in that coy, respectless manner you get when you have realized that your personal troll paid good money for you and never really liked horse meat anyway. He prefers walking around randomly grazing and doing nothing much but munching and trying to annoy that loud and troublesome troll-person that tries to get him to work just at the time of day when the grass tastes best.

Short history on it's arrival into the group and Deep Forest (if it applies):
Ruff is Blackback's draft horse, a luxury the merchant thought he could afford last time he returned to the human realms to restock his goods and sell some of the valuables he had acquired in Deep Forest during the winter and spring. Ruff pulls the troll's wagon and has also been put to work on pulling stones for his new store.
He grazes near Blackback's shop in the Village and never strays far away from this spot. There is some sort of silent war of wills going on between the horse and his master, and somehow the horse seems to enjoy Blackback's company, if not the chores the troll wants done.

Short life history:

Grew up as a draft horse in the human realms. Has had many masters and despite the fewer years has worked almost in as many different cities and roles as Blackback himself. Blackback bought him from a salesman who said "he has only been working in the bloom-delivery business. Very light load. Most alert horse you will ever find." Blackback later wanted to find that person, to tell him a thing or two about his 'alert horse'. Regrettably, the salesman had hastily left town shortly after the sale. The troll still wakes sweaty now and then, sleepy fingers making crushing motions around that mans oh-so-thin neck.

Sticky and Nag - the squirrels, Chirp and Pounder - the woodpeckers

Names: Sticky, Nag, Chirp and Pounder
Gender:Sticky and Chirp are male, Nag and Pounder are female
Exact race:
Sticky and Nag are large talking squirrels.
Chrip and Pounder are both large talking woodpeckers.
Age: A few years

Appearance:
Normal-looking animals, if both of the larger Deep Forest variety. The quartet can also talk, with small squeeky voices or chirps. They are not overly bright, but follows instructions well.

Sticky and Chirp both occationally carries a sort of minitaure toolbelt containing nails. Likewise, the birds has custom built carriage bags when they are out on one of Blackback's assignments.

Short life history:
The quartet has been drafted by Blackback on several occations for deploying commercials and announcements around the forest. When they get an assignment, each bird carries a squirrel around. Where they land the squirrel then takes a poster from the carrying bag the bird carries and places the nails they carry. The woodpeckers have learned to be very good with hammering the nails into place (especially Pounder likes this bit). They can also be very loud when announcing their employers latest critical piece of information to everyone in the vicinity. Between the four of them, they can cover most of the forest within a day.

When not working for Blackback, the two pairs of animals do their normal chores in the vicinity of the village. The knackering of the woodpeckers can often be heard around the village as they search for food in the vast barks of the giant trees. Likewise, the squirrels run up and down the tree-walls endlessly gathering food and preparing for colder times, nagging passer-by's to spare food for them to store away.

Family Y'lia

Post by Griatch »

The Y'lia family (wood elf family, living in the Village)

The Y'lia family has lived in the Forest Village since it was created; they used to live dispersed among other elves in the forest but found it a good idea to group together for safety and protection. They live on one of the lower branches of one of the giant trees that make out the village, in a house that is literarly bursting from the seams with fitting eight people in it.

The father and mother or the family are often seen around the village, doing chores and carrying things. Their eldest children help out with their chores, whereas the younger ones play and shout along with all the other kids of the village, adding a lot to the athmosphere of the place. The kids, like all children will be very curious of newcomers and the adults are kind and easy to talk to if you want help with something.

People in the family Y'lia

Father:
Osoine Y'lia -- A kind broad-faced elf with beautiful featrues. He is blonde with blue eyes and his elven ears are unusually long. A careful man, coloured by the wars and trouble of the forest, but friendly and open, if not as much so as is his wife. In the village he works day jobs, shifting between working the fields in the autumn to other chores during the year. He has great skill with his hands and like to make small flutes and other musical instruments for his children.

Mother:
Celishe Y'lia -- A tanned wood-elf with their normal beautiful features. Blonde, just as her husband. Celishe is a kind and open woman that always think well of people. Celishe is an ackomplished sewstress and has sewn many things on demand in the village, including for Blackback.

Both Celishe and Osoine are considered young by elven standards, a young elven couple.

Children:

Jillna -- a scrawny elven teenager, the oldest child. She's in the elven equivalence of adolescence, and her face is less regular than it will be. She's still pretty by most standards. She's quiet and prone to think everything is very unfair to her most of the time. Being an elf, she is more dignified about it than human teenagers, however.

Uf'dain -- often called just Uf by his friends. A few years younger than Jillna, he's a solemn and rational boy that takes things -- and himself -- a little too serious. Twin brother of Mauna.

Maunia -- Twin of Uf'dain and his constant shadow. Mauna is a bit insecure but really likes her brother to the level of devotion. She defends him at every turn but tends to herself be rather invisible.

Odriel -- A curly-haired eight-year old boy with an open face and a big smile. Fearless and infinately charming, but maybe not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Ylvai -- Seven years old now, and the only with a darker hair in the family. Fearless and nosy with big eyes and total innocence and curiosity. Very much like Odriel, but with much sharper wit.

Petrinel -- The youngest of the family is two years old now, a cute bundle of curious eyes and gurgling laughs.
